It was kind of a strange thing to be asked to do. Hekhis held the scissors gently in her hands, turning them over and over. Opening the handles, she ran her fingers along the blades of it, contemplating. Take a heart. What was a heart used for? Was it a useful thing?
She thought about the task she'd been given. What sort of gift would one get at the price of something forgotten that hadn't made it? Did she have a heart? Hekhis was tempted to cut open her own chest to see - but oh, her heart shone brightly through to her already, betraying her alignments and the way she existed.
Who she existed for.
Yes. That was right. She belonged to the goddess. If the goddess just needed one...small..trivial little item to work her miracles, she could give such a thing, right?
...No....
yes.....
no.....
She wasn't sure.....
But there were doors to pass through, and it was time to walk. With a deep breath, she moved towards the tree-marked door, opening it as boldly as she could, scissors gripped tightly in preparation for attack. Just in case.

The door slammed behind her and she spun around to face it, looking at it then into the darkness ahead of her. With a deep breath, she walked into it, still clutching the scissors carefully as she walked into the dark, waiting for any noise, anything that was dangerous. Anything wrong.
Helvetica.
That was a strange word, but Hekhis ignored it easily as she continued to walk, just hoping it wouldn't come closer.
No, Shehk.....
That word caused her to pause for a moment, looking around as she took it all into consideration. That word repeated, seemingly endlessly, as she walked into the never ending darkness. Even as her eyes adjusted and she could barely make out shapes as she walked, it just felt like it was getting darker and darker as they walked.
The end of the hallway felt like another universe, and she ran into it, touching it and running her hand over it curiously. It felt..wooden...
THUD
She tripped backward into the dark in surprise before she got up and tried to shuffle around the shape. Nothing. No way around it.
THUD
She banged her hand back against it and it banged back at her. Curiously, she began to feel around it, her hands brushing against somethng cold...fleshy. Hekhis wrapped her fingers around it and squeezed. The noise stopped. Cracking open the top, she felt around inside of it blindly, her fingers touching bare flesh and ripped fabric as she investigated it.
Thump..thump thump....thump.....
Cautiously, she brought the scissors towards the offending noise. It barely did anything, but the hand she'd held earlier began to dig into her flesh, shrieking a horrible noise at her as she brought the scissors back up and dug them into the flesh again.
Again..and again
Something cracked and she dropped the scissors, bringing her other hand down to begin digging at the open wound, the gaping hole she'd created. Something tried to keep her from progressing and she found herself leaning in to use her teeth to chew through it, as if it was a natural response. It tasted delicious.
She took several purposeful bites to eat it as she pulled the heart out, licking the surface of it before, with great restraint, putting it into her bag. Several more tastes of the maimed body, shrieking 'SHEHK, SHEHK' were made to appease something deep inside of her....
Shehk...
Shehk....
So you're Shehk, then?
Yes.
Are you sure that's your name?
Yes...
Can you say anything besides yes?
Yes....
Will you?
........no........
Blonde, liked to wear red it seemed.... why wasn't she wearing anything? No, no that wasn't her...it was someone else... did it belong to the heart she was holding? Was it trying to give her some sort of final message?
How sad. To linger on somebody like that. But her body burned from the nails in her flesh as she pulled the hands forcibly off of her and rubbed her face, smearing the blood from her unintended (but fully enjoyed) feast on it. Would the goddesses be upset?
They were done with them, weren't they?

She could feel the heart pumping in her bag as she walked away from the crate to see if she could find another way through the darkness, but it felt like the more she walked, the more the ground sloshed beneath her feet. Like a swamp forming beneath her feet that was trying to slowly suck her in. The more she sunk, the more dramatically she had to walk, lifting her feet, setting them down. She felt as though her knees could have touched her chest as she walked, sloshing around in hip deep water.
It sent a chill through her body, a cold that felt nice, in a way, as she walked. Icy, but pleasant. It cooled her body, even if it made walking all the more difficult for her.
Then more splashing came and she whirled around to look into the darkness.
Give it...
She walked until her head was barely above the water, even tilted back to keep her face above the water. No. This place was bad. Drowning. Suffocation...leave
Carefully she turned to head back when a pair of hands grabbed her neck, pushing her back into the dark of the water. She could barely see the hollows of their eyes even when her head was above water, but under the surface the face distorted, her hands reaching up for the face to try and dig her fingers into it, clawing at them.
Stop.
Let me go.
She barely could open her mouth before it was filled with water.
'Give it......' it repeated angrily.
She thrashed in retaliation despite the futility of it.
I'll take your food until you learn to protect it from me. You don't own something just because you have possession of it. It can be stolen from you at any moment.
Keep your fork on your own plate.
That is my plate. My plate and your plate are my plate -
- There! That was a good fend off. Keep it up and you might actually get to enjoy breakfast.

She couldn't breathe.
She couldn't breathe.
She clawed at the figure trying to drown her. It didn't work. It didn't budge. Her head was full of confusion and her hand was full of -
Hekhis brought the scissors into the thing's face. Once. Twice. Three times in a desperate attempt to get it to let her go. The hands around her neck loosened as she pulled herself up straight again, gasping for air. The water was gone, but she collapsed onto her hands and feet as she coughed and dripped water all over the floor.
She had it. The heart. And that thing was gone (so were her scissors). She'd survived it..she'd made it...but... Hekshi looked into the darkness and had to wonder...
"Would I have become you....?" she asked aloud, her voice - a foreign noise - echoing in the darkness. Darkness that slowly faded as she rose to her feet to right herself. The light would lead her to the exit, but....
"I will come back...for you........" she spoke out loud. "Someday, you will make it too and you will tell me the rest of the story."
She took a deep breath as she walked back towards the light, clutching the bag tightly as she walked back to the door, making a great effort to not look back - missing the maimed figure who held the scissors now.

DAY 2 TASK
She held the knife, running it over her fingers thoughtfully and gripping it tightly. It felt safe. Strong. But it also felt wrong in her hands. She turned it over and over and over again as she stood with it, just the mere thought of being told that to be strong was to sacrifice put a strange lingering...something...into the back of her head. Worry. Concern. She squeezed the hilt of the blade, as if fearful that being light with it would destroy her somehow.
She picked at the rust that came over the blade as she walked, peeling at the imperfections, amplifying them, bringing them further into the ruin that they already mimicked so easily. Her shoulders barely brushed the sides of the opening as she walked through it....

It was cold.
Startled, she suddenly sat up, touching the table beneath her before looking up. The lights burned. The sterile whiteness of the room made her dark being ache as she stumbled in it, brushing her hands over walls and checking again and again that they were real. They felt wrong. Sterile, wrong, wrong, wrong, wrong.....
Finding a door, she wiggled the handle before pushing it open and stepping out into the hallway which was, unfortunately, just as bright.
SLAM
Hekhis jumped, turning to look behind her with both hands on the knife she'd been given, looking for the only thing she had identified as being something that could slam shut. The door was still open, which in and of itself was suspicious. Taking several bleary eyed steps, she looked through the door to see if she'd missed something.
Clearly all she'd missed was someone stealing the table she'd woken up on, as the room was empty now.
A quick browse inside confirmed that it was as empty as it looked and it was with great suspicion that she came back out to the hallway and slowly began her way down it. It was the only way she could go and it seemed, fortunately, there was at least somewhere to go. Still, she walked, her eyes half squinted as she tried to stifle out the sheer whiteness of everything she was taking in, hissing a little under her breath.
Thump.
She paused, looking back to the door again and even moving to go peer in again. Nothing. She'd confirmed it was nothing. With a suspicious peer, she went back to walking down the hallway, keeping her hand off the wall and both on the knife she'd been given.
Thump.
There was nothing back there. She knew there was nothing back there. Never the less, she turned to look....
A dark shape. She couldn't tell what they were at first, but they began to walk towards her. There was a screeching noise and she stared at them, trying to see if there was actually a threat present or not. Scissors. This was...
This was....she had no idea why she was being stalked by a psychopath that was holding scissors, actually. Was that were her scissors had gone? Wait, when had she had-
Her head hurt.
It was getting closer, but she could move faster than it. All she had to do was get to the end of the hallway, right? She bolted...

Her legs burned as the panic set in, waiting for that creep of adrenaline to kick in to make the pain go away, to keep her going despite the fact she could hear that thing following after her. Consistent, slow, creepy. As she went to glance back over her shoulder, she saw something. A piece of paper.
Letters, blood stains... she saw so little to go off of, but she grabbed it anyways, only stopping long enough to look at it before she looked up again, towards the thing following after her.
It was closer.
She felt a deep panic settle in her chest and she started to run again.

She found the door but there was no way to open it. Her piece of paper did nothing for her and she crumpled it up in frustration, dropping it to the ground as she slammed her hands on the door. Open. Open open. Please.
You can't even fend for yourself.
You can't even fend for the little ones you brought with you to me.
Oh right, you ate them....because you're just a little Grinder, eating everything because it consumes you instead of you consuming it....
What little ones
Who did she eat
What was a Grinder?
It sounded truly awful, but she didn't care to find the answers to those questions. She didn't do anything. She didn't not to anything. She wasn't any of the things that shadow whispered to her. Promises of pineapples, pictures, and a forest full of fog that she'd never really belonged to.
She needed to get this door open. Please...

There was another piece of paper. Maybe this paper would help her. She snatched it up quickly, giving the shadow-y figure a terrified look before she looked to the new scrap of paper. What she got for her effort was another vague message. She held up both pieces of paper.
"WHAT GOOD ARE YOU??" she shrieked in panic....before realizing that they actually worked best together, glancing between the two before her head whirled back to look at the door, eyes wide.
"..YesyesyesYES" she couldn't have put the code in faster, hoping with her entire being that the door would open.
It did.
With a final glance behind her she wasted no time bolting for hopefully a safe escape.

She was outside. Taking a deep breath, she reveled in the moment of freedom she found. She'd made it. There were trees everywhere, but she'd made it. With a sigh of relief, she began to walk out into the trees.
Then she heard the scraping behind her. Turning to look back, however, she was greeted by those eyes. Without double checking, the panic came back. She began to run from it, through the trees...
There was a bridge ahead and there was a fortunate amount of space between herself and the being following her. Confidence and hope welled up inside of her as she picked up speed, as if running through trees and away from danger was the most natural thing in the world.
SNAP
One of the pieces of wood buckled beneath her foot and her leg went right through it, causing her to yelp with surprise and a moment of pain. She could hear that thing getting closer, she just needed to pull her leg out and go. It didn't budge.
She tried a second time quickly. Nothing. She looked back and she could see it. The sound of snipping of those scissors....step..step...
Animal instinct took over as she took hold of the knife and sunk it into her leg. Pain sparkled through her. She lifted it again and stabbed it back in, then began to saw. It hurt. It hurt awfully. It was the most nasty feeling and she began to bleed profusely as the limb severed.
Leaving her foot behind she got up again and began to drag herself, moving as quickly as she could now that she only had one leg to work with...

She came to the cul-de-sac, foot still reforming as she limped along. Ominous shadows fell across the mostly empty road. Empty, except for the house that now stood at the end there. It was tall and she looked up at it thoughtfully for a moment.
Only a moment. The blade that had felt safe in her hands was now clenched between her fingers, the growing glow filling her with a moment of bravery. Only a moment.
Only a moment. That was how long it took for the scissors to sink into her chest, causing her so sputter in surprise as she dropped to her knees, coughing. The dark figure pushed her onto her back, touching her face, whispering in it's eerie voice. "See, see, hush child, hush child...." it murmured, face eerily close to hers as it pulled open her chest, pulling her heart from her chest before snipping it free.
A single snip. It hurt less than hacking her leg off had, but the pain left quickly. The thought left quickly.
Thump...
thump....
thump.........
The dark figure walked away, a yellow heart in one hand, scissors in the other.

It was time again. To journey, to wonder, to see what it was the Goddesses were truly up to. Perhaps not truly. There was little truth to be found in their ways, as she saw it. Not to say they weren't truthful. Simply secretive.
This time it was a goddess in blue who called on them, and she answered, ever obedient to the tasks given to them.
Hekhis turned down the offer of a cookie, the idea of it making her stomach churn for some reason. The churning only intensified as the blue goddess turned into a tidal wave of affection. Did she love the goddesses? Any of them? Was there anything about them to love? Of course there was, but there was hesitation. A brief moment, a thought, a whisper. It was gone just as quickly, however.
Instead of answering, Hekhis moved towards the gate that she was ushered towards, smiling awkwardly as she moved through it compliantly. Of course she would give the goddess something back.
Something.
Even if only one thing.

This place felt almost uncomfortable to her. It wasn't in the ambiance of the music or the crunching light-grey...something...beneath her feet (though it did make her stomp around a bit curiously). It was just..something. She couldn't place it. Maybe it was a feeling about something that didn't exist.
Maybe she was just paranoid.
In front of her was a table, and quietly she found herself approaching it, looking between the two jars that sat atop it. Pink. Blue. She reached out towards the pink one, paused, then pulled her hand away to pick up the blue one instead, turning it over curiously, tossing it in her hands a few times and getting a feel for it.
Then she read the tag. Drink Me
As if overwhelmed, Hekhis suddenly down the contents of the blue jar before dropping it and clutching her head with both hands instead as the jar shattered to pieces at her feet. That strange lingering feeling that she was uncomfortable was coming back. She didn't know why, she had to know why, but she didn't. Her tail twitched with irritation as she began to growl under her breath. Then she began to pace from side to side, still clutching her head as the table began to decorate itself with cloth, treats, goodies.
There was a pit of hunger in her stomach, yet nothing that sat on the table seemed to be something she should eat. No. Yes. No. Yes.
Ultimately, she picked up the piece of chocolate and put the whole thing into her mouth in one bite. Nausea struck her first, the richness of the sweet leaving a bilious taste in her mouth, while being weighted enough to just take that rock in her stomach and pile more inside of her, on every place it possibly could. It felt low, dark and unpleasant.
She needed to get rid of it, and it seemed once again the table was willing to offer her something to feed that need as well. Quietly, she picked up the dark blue tea cup and took a drink.
Feelings churned inside of her. Twitchy, angry, unpleasant. She always felt unpleasant, didn't she? No, yes, no......
