As Ri reached the center of the Shrine, he noticed that there were only two statues now, leaving one empty. "Odd." There was still a plaque though, and he read it, only interupted by the sound of a goddess speaking.

"Or so it goes."

She seemed rather busy, and he was about to walk away, to leave her to her task when she handed him the bag. It had a key on it, and she encouraged him to open it.

He did.

It was empty though, and he looked back up at the goddess. She was clenching and clenching her hands, something that struck him as slightly odd but not to be questioned. And she wanted him to help fix it.

He could do that.

She needed more parts, from her lab, inside the chests. He took the scissors from her, holding them carefully.

That should do the trick. Just the heart. They don't need theirs after all," their expression turns turns wry, gentled at the corners with remorse, "...they didn't quite make it."

He nodded, and then turned to leave. She smiled, and he walked towards the box, dark with what sounded like thunks. He entered.

Once he had, he noticed three doors. The first is shaped like a pumpkin, the second a reverse hooked spiral, and the shape of a tree, branching downwards. He stared at them for a moment before stepping in front of the second door. This one.

For a moment he could hear people, calling, cheering, and he could see images, just for a moment of them, calling out a word, an unfamiliar name. They disappeared as he kept walking, to be replaced by shadowed, still forms staring at him.

Kind of weird.

The door shut behind him, making the room even darker. He fumbled his way through it, moving slowly even as the room seemed to move with him. And then, a thud.

He had bumped into something, a crate, and he felt it blocking his path. He ran his fingers over it, finding it open, with a shape sticking out of it. It didn't fit. His hand reached for it automatically, grabbing for it. It felt like rugged fabric, empty of anything, and with a thud, fell back into the box.

He reached in towards it, noticing that it was glowing faintly. This must be what he had been sent for, the heart, and he began to snip at the fabric surrounding it.

Phardax he heard, as he cut through the layers. Phardax. He shook his head, clearing the image of a child from his head. This place was just messing with him.

And the thumping in the box wasn't helping.

He made it through the fabric, and started on the strings, cutting each one carefully. The image had returned, of a smiling face of a child with his hair falling into his eyes, and Ri frowned. "Shoo." He needed to focus on his cutting. Finally, all of the strings were cut, and he pulled the heart out carefully.

Memory

There was a baby sleeping in a cradle, wrapped in a soft grey blanket, and the boy stood at the end of it quietly. He knew if he made too much of a sound his mother and father would be upset, and he wanted to see just what the fuss had been about.

He didn't know why this baby was so special, or why his mother was paying more attention to it than to him. All he had wanted was a story, and instead he had gotten shooed away, and told to go and play with his older siblings.

He didn't want to play with them.

The thumping stopped, and he put the heart into the bag. There. It was done.

With his task done, Ri began to walk, working his way back to the goddess. The floor seemed to change, feeling less solid under his feet and more flexible. Odd. It began to feel sticky just as he approached a dead end, and before he turned around, he heard a sloshing sound and then footprints.

But nothing was there. He continued to walk, his feet now in water, and then there was another sloshing sound, louder than before. "Please give it back." There was still nothing.

He continued deeper into the water, until it was up to his neck and he knew that he couldn't go any farther. He had to go back. "Please give me back my-"

A pair of hands grabbed at him, forcing him down, under. He couldn't breathe, couldn't resist no matter how hard he struggled. He felt a sharp pain as he was pushed further and further down, and then, he saw them.

Looking at him with their deep, grey eyes, glassy, baring their teeth at him.

Memory

He was in the library, a book open on his lap while he watched a little boy who looked much like him, down to the same eye color, color. He was drawing a picture of what Ilztmyr'ree assumed were people, as they seemed to have legs, arms, and heads, and he smiled as he looked back down to his studies.

"Myr," the little boy said, tugging on his brother's sleeve. "I drew a picture for you!"

"You did?"

"Uhuh." He held out the picture. "Look. It's me, Phardax and you, brother, and our kitty, Shynt. Isn't it the best picture."

"It is the best, little bro." He ruffled the boy's hair. "Is it for me?"

"Yep!"

"Give me back my heart."

He had no choice. He had a task to do, for his Goddesses, to please them, to gain their blessings. He didn't want to, but he also didn't want to drown. He would come back for him, create him a new heart, once he was a goddess. Sometimes sacrifices had to be made.

He jabbed the scissors up, plunging it deep into an opening, and with a shriek, they disappeared.

And so did the water. He coughed, and coughed, and coughed, but then, after a moment, he could breath again. He took a few moments to take in the air, deep breaths, as if he had just been drowned.

There was light coming in now, he must have gotten close to the door in his struggle, and he carefully got up. As he turned towards the door, he thought he saw the boy, the same one who had attempt to drown him staring at him from the distance, the scissors held tightly in his hand.

"I am sorry, brother." He said, and then exited through the door, escaping the room and the gaze.

"You cannot escape forever."

The goddess was holding a scythe, almost as if it was a favored child, stroking it as she spoke to him. "You must face your Fears. Eat or be eaten. That is the way of it here. Were it another time... I wonder which one you would be?"

She approached him, circling and looking at him. "I wonder indeed. Perhaps we shall solve this little mystery? Take this."

He was given a small jeweled dagger, a simple blade set with a single stone, but with a claw dangling from it.

"That should be more than enough," the Goddess continues. "You will need to learn to fend for yourself, to take on your challenges and judge for yourself what it means to sacrifice. That is the only way you will become stronger, else you'll fall prey to someone greater still."

The dagger's blade shifted as she spoke, rusting over, shifting to look as if it was stained the color of Ruin.

"You are ready." She announces, gesturing with her scythe. "Go."

And he went, her gaze following him as he did.

He awoke, cold, in a bright room, laying on a metal table. He didn't remember falling asleep, but his memory wasn't always dependable. The room was loud, and he resisted the urge to put his hands over his ears, to block the sound of the humming coming from the lights.

Instead, he stood up, making his way towards the door. It was unlocked.

The hallway outside was just as bright as the room had been, and after a few steps he heard something slam shut. The door? He turned his head to look back. No. It was still open. Strange.

He continued out, cautiously, his steps slow but steady. The hallway seemed to be lasting forever, but he could see an exit in the distance. He wanted out. It was too loud in here, too bright, and too stifling.

Thud.

He glanced behind him again, but still nothing, just the hallway.

Thud

He looked behind him again, but this time, there was something there. They were watching him. Their footsteps thudded against the floor, and there was a strange sound, a sharp scraping noise. They were holding a pair of rusted scissors.

Thud. Screech. Thud. Screech.

They were getting closer.

He started to run. He moved as fast as his legs would let him, breathing hard, the world spinning, the only sounds his rapidly beating heart and the steady thud of the figure following.

He reached the door, but it was locked. There were bright red letters on the handlebar of the door, Passcode required, and a keypad at face level.

What was he supposed to do now.

40 Feet Remaining

He took a deep breath, and glanced around. There was a piece of paper to his left, stained in red, but he picked it up to read it anyways.

A C E G.

It made no sense, and didn't see how it could possibly help him, and every moment it took him to figure out this door, was a moment that that thing could get closer to him.

"Don't go." The figure taunted. "I'll miss you."

35 Feet Remaining

There had to be something else, anything else, and for a moment, everything blurred.

Memory
He had been sleeping, warm and comfortable in his bed, when a little body pulled the covers back and crawled in with him. The child was cold, freezing, and it woke him up.

"Do you need something?" he said, yawning.

"I had a nightmeer." the little boy replied. "Can I sleep wiff you?"

He sighed, but nodded. "Yeah, I guess so."

"Thank you, bwover."

"You're my favorite," the figure taunted again. "I don't want you to go away."

He pushed at the doors. Maybe they'd open if he could just push hard enough. No.

"Everything fails around you. You fail. Trains explode, boats crash, people die." He chuckled. "Useless."

He looked back to the left, noticing another sheet of paper. He picked this one up as well, and read it.

It read A=0, B=1, C=2.

Alright, that made more sense, and with the letters from before, he figured out the sequence, punching it into the pad. The door opened, and he ran through, not looking back at the figure. He had made it out.

He had made it outside, and the grey trees hid him from the figure. It was still following him. He continued to run, even as the voice taunted him.

"Give me my heart back. Or give me yours in exchange."

30 feet away

At the end of the trees, there was a bridge. A rickety, swaying bridge, and he knew that he had to cross it. There was no other way. He began to cross, but as he walked, one of the board broke, catching his foot in it. He tried to pull it out, but it was stuck.

They were getting closer, closing in on him, almost behind him. He had to get out, and but there was no time. He was going to have to cut the foot off. He took the dagger and worked on slicing it out.

It hurt.

The first cut didn't quite do it, cutting it only halfway, but the second cut, did it. He was free. He hobbled onwards, with his foot regenerating as he did. He didn't realize that it would do that.

He wasn't moving fast, and he could hear the figure behind, snipping his sccissors, close enough the he could almost feel his breathing.

He made it across.

It was a dead end, a cul-de-sac, with a rickety haunted house standing behind him. There were strange shadows coming from it, but he was focused on the figure, the one who was still following.

Did it ever give up?

His dagger began to glow, a bright red, almost as if it was reacting to the house. He could hear an echo of what the Goddess had said, Now or Never, and he raised his dagger to bring it down on the figure.

Memory

He had gotten his application approved, and now, it was time for him to go off to school. He was looking forward to attending AmityvilleAcademy , even if it did mean leaving his family and his home.

"I don't want you to go." his younger brother sobbed. He was only eight, still young enough that his family would only frown a little on this. "I'm going to miss you, Myr. Can't you tell them that you're not going?"

"Oh, kiddo." he said, pulling the boy into a hug. "I really need to go. I can't learn everything I need to learn to control my powers if I stay here."

"But." His lip jutted out. "You're my favorite, Myr."

The teen smiled. "It's not like I'm going away forever, you know. I'll be coming home for breaks, and things."

"That's not the same."

"Come on Ilztmyr'ree. We're going to be late." He heard his father call. He needed to go.

He hugged the boy again, tightly. "Stay strong for me."

"I'll try." He was crying again, this time silently. "Don't forget me, big brother."

"I won't."

He plunged the dagger directly into their chest, and they fell over. It took a moment, but it did dissipate. He had done it. The door of the Haunted House swung open, and Ri took that as an indication that he was supposed to exit there. He picked the dagger back up from the ground, noticing that it was glowing brighter. It was time to leave.

He escaped.

"Yet, you are still so little."

Ri wasn't quite sure what to make of this goddess, with her offer of cookies, and declaration of love. She seemed nice, in a different sort of way than the others, and he listened to what she had to say.

A tea party?

Out of all of the things he had been asked to do so far, this felt as if it was the oddest, that it didn't quite fit, but he would do what she said. To please her.

He made his way forward through the gate, her voice urging him on. "Oh, I'm so curious to see what beautiful emotions you will make!"

The music was strange, chiming with voices and bells, feeling like nostalgia unexplained. Odd flakes fell from the darkened sky, and his feet crunched on the white ground.

It felt familiar, and not.

There was a table inside, with two jars sitting on it. Blue, and pink. Pink felt happy, full of joy and kindness, while blue, felt sad, and as if it was waiting for someone or something. He picked up the Pink Jar.

There was a tag on it, reading Drink me. That seemed simple enough, and he drank. He began to feel warm, and happy, lightheaded, and at peace. It didn't even bother him when the table began to spin, becoming filled with snacks. Cake, and cookies.

Yum.

It was an extravagant looking cake, and he took a bite, finding it just as rich tasting as it looked. Perhaps he needed a drink, and he picked up the Golden tea cup.

Perfect.

He took a drink.

memory

"I am just as good at they are," the teen muttered, pacing around his room. "Just cause I'm not as strong as they are doesn't mean that I cann't do anything."

He hated his older brother, and his friends, and everything.

He was special, and as he clenched his hands into fists, he could feel the power inside him welling up.

"I am just as good as they are!"

The lights flickered off for a moment, leaving the room in blackness. It didn't last for long, and when the lights came back on, he could see a strange little creature staring at him.

"Where'd you come from?" he asked, curious. He knew that it hadn't been there earlier, he would have seen it.

"From you, Ilztmyr'ree." The teen blinked. "I am yours and you are mine."

He blinked again. "Mine? Are you sure?"

The creature chuckled, circling around so that the boy could get a good look at him. "You are the one who summoned me."

"I did?"

The familiar nodded. "Yes."

"Wow." He took a closer look at the creature, picking the ferret like familiar up carefully. Perhaps he wasn't like his brother, or much like his family, but he was special. Maybe he could be proud of himself. Maybe he was.

He had drank all of the tea in his cup, and he noticed that the teapot had a note attached, he picked it up, and read it. He needed to sample some of the other teas. No problem.

Tea Guest Log

User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show.

Colour of Tea Tasted: Pale Yellow
Description: Envy? towards others. Stubborn. A creature. A sense of hope and accomplishment.

Your commentary on its flavour: Finally, a pleasant tea. The memory is simple, but Linswo has always loved simplicity. He leans into his seat and continues to drink. He can understand the owner's feeling about strength. He isn't very strong himself, but it's what's on the inside that truly counts. That's what he believes. The creature confuses him, but if it makes the owner happy and proud, then he won't question it at all. Of course the owner is special. Everyone has something that differentiates them from others, makes them unique.
