Information

Much as last time, this gather will have no fixed end date, you will be allowed to go on RPing as long as you like. Flitt eggs prizes will be given out when things seem to slow down.

This gather counts as an event of the purposes of rank requirements (remember you must be an adult rider to start accumulating these), but you must have at least 10 posts (that are not one liners) in here to count it.

Feel free to begin posting now!

What's going on when?
Posting in the gather

To keep things from getting confusing please indicate in bold at the top of your post what area your character is in: fest tables, stalls, dance area, or wherever else they are.

So far as IC time goes, we're playing fast and loose. Please put in bold at the top of your post the vague time your posts are taking place eg 'late afternoon - fest tables' or 'early evening - stalls'. This means that you can have your character manning a craft stall part of the time and enjoying themselves either before they set up or once they sell out. Don't worry if you are RPing in the afternoon while some others are RPing in the evening, but only interact with people in the same vague place and time as you! You can hop around places and times with your posts, you can even RP the same character at different times concurrently if you want!

There's no post order here, or limits on how fast you can post.

So what can I spend?
Money money money!

- Different characters have different levels of wealth. Listed below is the marks a given character has to spend. If your character fits in more than one category they have the higher number of marks. If your character received money or goods in a previous event (such as the pearls given to riders in one threadfall) you may add that to your total provided you give a link showing the the value of the goods they received and are assumed to have sold. The base money characters had in the last gather cannot be carried forward, but money they made there as a crafter can.

Mark denominations are 1/32, 1/16, 1/8, 1/4, 1/2, 1, 2, 5,10, and 100. 1 mark is equal to about $20 USD, while 100 marks is about $2000 USD.

Unskilled labourer - 1 Mark
Candidate/Apprentice - 2 Marks
Weyrling/Wherling - 3 Marks
Wingrider/Jr. Journeyman/Wherholder - 5 Marks
Search/Courier/Watch/ Sr. Journeyman - 6 Marks
Warden/Assistant Weyrlingmaster/Assistant Candidatemaster/Wingsecond - 7 Marks
Wingleader/Master crafter - 8 Marks
Councillor - 10 Marks

Please keep a tally of your remaining marks as you spend!

What's for sale?
NPC Stalls

- If you choose you may try to haggle rather than just paying the marked price. If you do so roll 1d20 and see the list below. Characters who are stated to be charming or smooth talkers in their profiles may add +1 to their rolls! If they are stated to be abrasive or awkward sorts you get -1. You may make only one haggling attempt per item. If you at least journeyman - or an apprentice haggling with an apprentice - in the same craft as an NPC, you get another +1 to haggling!

- If you would like to buy something you don't see here, let me know and I will create a new stall for you or add products to an existing stall!

1: You have insulted the stall keeper with your measly offer! They won't sell to you; not the item you were haggling for, not anything! >[
2-10: The stall keeper stands firm, that's the price so take it or leave it.
11-17: The stall keeper agrees to a small discount, you get 1/4 a mark off their price. If the item was under a mark to start with, you get 1/8 off. No discount for items under 1/4 mark.
18-19: The stall keeper must be in a good mood! You get a mark off their price for items above 1 mark, 1/2 a mark off 1 mark item, 1/4 off an item under a mark, 1/8 off if it was below 1/4.
20: Woah, you got 50% off their marked price! Either you've got a silver tongue or they really like the look of you.

Stalls:

Master Smith Peya - A tall powerful woman with dark skin and a greying fro-hawk, she's in her forties but is fresh-faced for her age. Her hair is a thing of beauty, be awed by its glory. She has a rich alto voice and a sultry air that could be intimidating to some.

Standard dagger - 1 mark
Daggers of various lengths and weights with simple designs. They are not made by the master herself but by journeymen working under her and she personally guarantees their quality.

Brass knuckles - 1/2 mark each, 3/4 marks a pair
Nothing fancy about these either but they pack a punch! Easy to hide in a pocket or the folds of your clothing they'll get you out of some tight corners. The metal is painted black so as not to cause a tell-tale gleam.

One of a kind - Diamond knuckles - 5 marks
If there is a better way to propose to the terrifying love of your life we don't know what it is. Lovingly crafted by Peya herself these diamond 'knucks are as deadly as they are lovely.
Sold out!

Four Three available - Fancy daggers - 4 marks
These are indeed some swanky daggers. Two have One has a brass wher's head grip (missing neck spikes for the sake of your hand) with garnet eyes. The other two have bone handle, and metal pommels in the shape of snarling feline heads with tiny emerald eyes.

New One of a Kind Item: Minimalist Masterwork Dagger! - 3 marks (to Ralla)
'Stooping for a moment she reached under her stall, soon straightening back up with a bone-handled dagger in a black leather sheath with brass fittings. Drawing the blade she held it flat on her palms hilt out to Ralla, showing that the quality of the blade was just as fine as the more ornate weapons. "If minimalist beauty is more your style how about this? Three marks to you." Actually it was a blade a friend of hers had ordered, but friends could wait when there was business in the air.'
Sold out!

Sr. Journeyman Leatherworker Vakus - Light olive skin, dark brown hair, middling height, average build. He wouldn't stand out at all if it weren't for his eyes: the left is an average Pernease dark brown, but the right is pale watery blue. He has a big smile and no fewer than five firelizards buzzing around him - three blue and two brown - and he is dressed in brown leather britches with a blue leather vest over a creamy shirt. Apparently he enjoys drawing attention to his usual attribute!

Wher saddles - 3 - 5 marks.
There is only one of these on Vakus' stall, because each one is made to order. The price varies depending on how fancy you want it to be. The one on display is pretty fancy; it's made of russet red leather with beautiful knotwork embossed onto it, and has a tall comfortable looking horn and cantle that will help you keep your seat if the wher stops suddenly or changes direction. This one also has simple 'flying straps' for those occasions where you might get carried into their air by a dragon so you can be dropped on a boming mission behind enemy lines.

Chest armour - 2 marks
There isn't much difference between the armour fashioned for men and for women, just slightly more space up front. Available in various shades of brown, black, dark green or dark blue.

One of a kind - Beautiful chest armour - 3 marks
Made of the finest black leather this piece of armour has a rampant wher embossed on the front and lots of detailing with studs. As well as looking cool it is slightly more flexible than the cheaper pieces.
Sold out!

Knee boots - 1 1/2 marks
These boots were made for kicking, they have steel toecaps and fasten with buckles down the outsides. Available in black or dark brown.

Bull whip - 1 1/2 marks
Six feet of flexible plaited leather. It's none of Varkus business why you want one! They come in black and brown.

Sr. Journeyman Baker Jorman & Apprentice Baker Jossi - They're father and daughter and you can tell; they're a small pair with chunky builds and the same dark blue eyes. Jorman has chestnut brown hair, but Jossi's is honey blonde. Jorman looks around thirty, Jossi maybe twelve. Both have their hair neatly tied back. In quiet moments they can be seen conversing softly with many chuckles/giggles and affectionate jibes passing both ways.

Cosmic Cream Cakes - 1/8 mark each
Light pastry filled with delicious fresh cream, topped with glazed fruit. Various fruits are available. Truly out of this world!

Decadent Sweet-Dough - 1/8 mark per half dozen.
Well back from the public is a bubbling pot of oil. Balls of sweet dough are fried it in to order and then rolled in your choice of cinnamon sugar, plain sugar, or brushed with a coating of syrup and sprinkled with chopped nuts.

Sinful Sweetroll Swirlies - 1/8 for two
Swirls of sweet pastry. Some have jam in the swirls, some have thick syrup and nuts, some have dried fruit. Some are iced, others dusted with sugar.

Other delicious things - probably 1/8 mark, just ask!
There are various other sweet treats on offer but they seem to have lost their descriptions and prices. Point out what you want and the stall holders will help you out! ((For those who fancy a bakery item I didn't list!))

Master Vinter Killian - Killian is somewhere in their mid thirties, and as androgynous as they come. With a fine boned face, short fluffy blonde hair and big blue eyes they are a beguiling one, whatever they keep under their clothes! Their voice is rich, deep for a woman or high for a man? Would they be insulted if you asked...? Anyway, they are very welcoming and as smooth spoken as a Harper.

Hot spiced wine - 1/8 mark a cup
The red wine used to make this is distinctly average in quality but the drink as a whole, oh my. It steams lightly in the cool air and the spices in it positively dance on the tongue. It is lightly sweetened in the vat but Killian is happy to give you extra sugar if you would like it.

Benden red - 1/8 mark a glass, 3/4 marks a bottle
A dry fruity red wine that will please all but the biggest of wine snobs. There are a couple of jugs of it on the counter, because Killian says that serving it straight from the bottle with no chance to breath is a crime that should be punishable by public flogging.

Malvren white - 1/8 mark a glass, 3/4 marks a bottle
Fruity and sweet this one is a good drinking wine, or one to enjoy with desserts. Like the red there are jugs of this, but the jugs sit in deep trays of ice. Just to show off, if you order a drink of it to have at Killian's stall they will have their brown firelizard sweep out from between and drop a frozen grape directly into your glass.

Fancy wine - 1 1/4 marks a bottle
Red, white, or rose of various kinds! Just tell Killian your preference (Sweet? Dry? Fruity? Heavy?) and they will be happy to recommend one you will enjoy.

I want to make some cash!
PC stalls

- PCs can set up craft stalls to sell their wares or skills. To have a stall just fill in the form below, post it here in the thread, and I will add it to the list of stalls. Non crafters can set up a stall too if they think they have a marketable skill: fortune telling booths, dating advisory services, whatever you like!

- The value of the goods you have should not more than double the total marks you have to spend at that rank. (NPC stalls don't necessarily follow this rule). This means you will need to list a your total stock, either that or close up shop if you take the maximum possible. Having a stall costs 1/2 a mark per apprentice manning it, 1 mark per jr journeyman, 1 1/2 per sr journeyman, and 2 marks per master. You should deduct this from the marks you have to spend initially, but of course any money you make by selling is added to your total!

- For those who have a stall but no craft rank use the years you have been practising as a guide to the value of good and services you can go up to. 1-8 years = apprentice equivalent, 9-16 years jr journeyman, 17-24 = sr journeyman, 25+ = master.

- You may make joint stalls, the above rule still applies to your own goods.

- Feel free to haggle away to your hearts' content, obviously PCs are not subject to NPC bargaining rules.

Character name: T’arn (Tuatha De)
Craft: Smithcraft
Rank: Sr. Journeyman
Products on offer:
Fine steel arrowheads – 1/8 mark for a dozen, or 1/4 mark for a dozen ‘dragon-killers’
Stronger and more durable than the standard stone heads, metal arrowheads are a bit pricey due to the rarity of metal on Pern, but if you really need something killed… T’arn’s are well-balanced and wickedly sharp. There is also a limited quantity of larger, barbed heads for use against dragon hide.

Pendants – 1/4 mark for leather cord, 1/2 mark for metal chain
A variety of semi-precious gems, neatly polished and placed in settings of either silver or gold – whichever one T’arn felt would set off the color of the stone better. For ease of browsing, he has thoughtfully arranged them by color in little baskets. (T’arn himself proudly sports a charming aventurine pendant of his own.) These pendants come with either a leather cord cut and sized to fit, or a metal chain matching the setting of the gem.

Wher figurines – 1 mark each (3 in stock)
These carefully sculpted little whers are small enough to fit easily in the palm of your hand, but their heft indicates that they’re solid metal. There are three: one is in a playful pose with its fore end lowered and head angled up, with tiny chips of green stone for eyes. One is reared up on its hind legs with its jaws open and tiny teeth on display, with red stone chips for eyes. The third is curled up and apparently asleep. T’arn encourages visitors to pick them up and examine them more closely.

Talon sheaths – 4 marks each (2 in stock)
There are only two sets of these: one sized for small whers (green through small brown) and one sized for large whers (large brown through gold). He is quick to explain that they are for purposes of decoration and intimidation only, and have not been tested in actual combat yet… but boy do they look impressive. Gleaming, polished steel, lovingly engraved and reinforced with sturdy bands at the base of each, they fit onto a wher’s forepaws like a gauntlet.

(Note: T'arn encourages IC bartering and haggling!)

What else is there to do?
Competitions

There are various game stalls scattered around the place and some of them have great prizes!

Just to be clear, you can play the gather games as many times as you like this time to be eligible for flitt prizes, but please don't double post on them and one you win one flitt you cannot win another!

Evening was falling as the crowds began to gather in Benden's Weyrbowl. The smell of roasting meat filled the air from the beasts still turning on spits, and there were several long tables laden with every good hearty food you could imagine. There was a table for drinks too of course with wine, beer, fruit juices, and great jugs of tea and klah too. The food and drink was free for everyone of every rank to jostle elbows over, though if you grab the same wherry leg as a Councillor it might be a good idea to let it go.

Off to one side of the food stood a range of crafter stalls and festival games hawking just about anything one could imagine. The other side of the food was a wide area of the bowl marked out for dancing, with a roughly constructed stage for the Harpers. Anyone with the skill and inclination was invited to step up onto the stage and join in, the tunes that would be played were well known in general and a list had been published in advance by the woman currently dubbed 'wherharper'.

Once there was a fair gathering of people around Wingsecond S'vor hopped up onto a bench and waved his arms for attention. When this didn't draw too many eyes he let out a piercing whistle. "Hello, good evening!" he called as the chatter quieted somewhat. "I won't keep you long, I'm sure you're all ready to eat! I've had the pleasure of helping to organize this event, and after all that let me tell you I'll be straight for the drinks!" Grinning warmly he looked around at the assembled people of the wherholds and made a big gesture around the Weyrbowl. "We're here to celebrate this tonight, the progress we have made, and the future ahead of us! I could go on about our cause, the past of this place, but you all know about all of that anyway. What I will say is how proud I am to be part of all of this, to stand here at the start of a new era!

"Lastly, as most of you know, we're expecting a Threadfall over Benden Hold three days from now. Riders and ground crews take a chance to enjoy yourselves while you can, we've got a big job ahead but I'm confident we'll do the wherholds proud once again. That's all from me! I'll leave you all to the fun, enjoy your night!" With that the brown rider hopped back to the ground and - just as promised - made a beeline for the drinks, scooping his young nephew up off the ground as he went and falling into step with his sister.

Liana - playing Lucky Dip
4 7/8 marks

Lia jostled among the Gather-goers with the rest of the attendees, pausing long enough to hear the speech before she continued on. She was planning on setting up a table herself a little later, and had a variety of goods ready to go. But first she wanted to take a look around the place, and enjoy herself. It wasn't every day there was a Gather, after all!

She browsed the available stalls briefly, and quickly decided she didn't need any of the goods for sale. She did cast an appraising look at the Bakercraft stall though, noted that they were focusing on sweets, and decided to make her savory goods more prominent when she set up. Then she headed off for the games.

There was one that involved smacking mock tunnelsnakes, which didn't appeal to her at all. It seemed more a draw for children and people who liked to let their muscles do the talking. But the other game, or more of a lottery really, seemed simple enough, and there were some decent prizes on display. "Here, I'll give it a go," she told the stall owner. She handed him the required eighth mark before shoving her hand in the bin to fish for a token.

Dinah - Vakus' Stall
5 marks

Dinah hated putting Dinsk in her kennel. While she'd long since figured out how to rig it so that the green couldn't escape - the trial and error of that process hadn't been fun - Dinsk was always in a foul mood once she came back and let her out. Allowing her bonded to attend the gather, unfortunately, was out of the question; there were far too many people, and Dinah didn't want to spend the night wrangling her nasty little snot of a wher. Or apologizing when she caught and killed someone's firelizard. Dead pets always went over so well with their owners!

So, she'd just have to deal with an annoyed wher later. Maybe if she brought her some particularly delicious treat as a peace offering, Dinsk would be slightly less angry. Maybe. Slightly. That shaffing beast was such a pain! But, hey, she was hers, so that made it sort of alright.

She was going to need a drink, for sure. Once the thankfully brief speech was made, she headed for the stalls in search of the wine...but didn't make it that far, as the leatherworker's stall caught her eye. Though it was the saddle that first drew her gaze, it was quickly dismissed. Dinsk had a very low tolerance for being ridden, so it would be useless. That armor, though, that could come in handy, and one of the pieces had the added bonus of looking pretty sharding awesome on top of it.

"'Scuse me, sir," she ventured, "That armor there, with the wher on it, how much's that?"

Ralla - Browsing the Stalls
7 marks

Ugh, gathers. There was always too much frivolousness, dancing, drinking, music, and general partying for Ralla's tastes. If everyone else wanted to waste their time with it, fine, but she had no intentions of lingering. She was here to see if the vendors had anything useful to sell, and that was that. Once she'd finished her shopping, she fully intended to head back to her weyr, finish off ehr day with some exercises, and get to bed early so that she could be up nice and early the next day. No wine. No hangovers. And most certainly no games.

Looking decidedly more serious than befit the party atmosphere, the warden set to prowling the stalls in search of practical items. The delicious smells coming from the bakers' stall gave her a brief moment of pause, but only to...appreciate the scent. No, she was not going to waste her marks on sweetrolls, no matter how good the smell was.

Moving on!

Canoake
Playing Lucky Dip
4 7/8 marks left.

Canoake needed this! The bright colors, the noise, the people. She was a social, if not scheming, creature by nature. And she loved the attention and busy atmosphere of a gather. Tatath was up in the heights, sunning herself and watching the other dragons. Her dark hair was done up in braids and her most colorful head scarf of reds, browns, and golds. She had saved many a mark for the one of a kind garment. In a loose red blouse and darker brown split skirt, she still had her knots on her but otherwise seemed like some of the wild traveling folk that had arrived.

Vendors called out. Smells assaulted her nose. Canoake practically skipped like a child in the creche for the excitement of it all. A man called out about a jar. Something about chance prizes. She had 5 whole marks, most of which she planned on keeping close to her but for an 1/8 mark try, why not? Smiling cheerfully at the old man, she handed him her money and waited for change. "Good day to you! One try please."

EDIT IN:

She thrust her hand in deep and moved it around before clasping a token and drawing it out. It was red in color and she looked it over. Handing it to the old man, she gave a grin. "My lucky day, yes? A red token is a good sign?"

Lilah - Jorman and Jossi's Stall
5 4 7/8 marks

Gathers were among the few things Lilah could honestly say that she enjoyed, mostly because of the food and drinks on offer. There wasn't much that could go terribly wrong with them, barring some freak occurrence, and usually the worst that happened was that she spent all her marks. On the other hand, that was more or less the point of a gather. However, the greenrider couldn't help but feel slightly wary, what with the poisoning incident and all. What if Trine tried to sabotage their gather, too? Not that she could fully blame them, really; she held no ill will whatsoever for the more traditionalist riders. The whole conflict held very little interest of any sort to her, beyond occasionally being a threat to her wellbeing.

Otherwise, what did it matter who was in charge or what the hierarchy was? She wasn't in charge, was never going to be, and didn't want to be. Lilah existed, plain and simple. Rhodonth had been distressed, back when it had all begun, but had acquiesced to her rider's insistence on remaining at Benden. It was the only home they'd ever known, and they weren't leaving it - not ever, as long as Lilah had anything to say about it.

Shuffling thoughts of possible disasters and impending Threadfall to the back of her mind so that she could focus on the far more pressing matter of acquiring food, Lilah made a beeline for the bakers' stall. She surveyed the offerings with hungry eyes, then handed over a 1/8 mark with a genuine smile. "Could I have some sweet dough, please? With the cinnamon sugar?"

That would do. For now.

S'aak - Playing Lucky Dip
4 7/8 marks

It looked good, all set up. With the music and the dancing and the smell of cooking meats, all of it was perfect. S'aak sighed happily, contentment wafting into his dragon's mind like the smoke from the firepits as he looked over the Wherholders' handiwork. Everyone had pitched in a little, and they were all reaping the benefits, now.

Or at least - they would be in a moment. S'aak watched as S'vor gave his speech, gave a whooping cheer in response, and then dove immediately into the group, casting around for the place he wanted to stop first. The wine he had helped A'nos unload was...tempting. But there would be time for drink. S'aak intended to thoroughly enjoy himself. But for now, there were games. And they just...seemed like fun. It all seemed like fun. Tonight would be a good night.

He drifted over to the Lucky Dip stall without much conviction, though the sudden triumph of a young woman who had apparently won a firelizard caught his attention, and he shrugged slightly, handing over an eighth-mark with a grin. He had the money to spend, might as well spend it.

As for his chip...well, it didn't exactly come up red. "I'll take...the hat, I guess," he said, grinning sheepishly at the stallholder and then promptly pulling the offered prize down over his ears. "Just in time for Threadfall, I suppose." A quirked grin, and then he was off. He'd try again later, but for now...plenty of other things to do.

V’ell – Peya's Stall
5 marks

V’ell had made arrangements to arrive as soon as the Gather started – separately from her Weyrmate. Normally this would be cause for concern. It was rare to see the greenrider and the brownrider out of one another’s company, after all, and even more rare for V’ell to be trying to go behind D’ei’s back. This was different, however. She had Important Business to attend to. Specifically, the business of finding the perfect gift.

And it just so happened that the fabled perfect gift existed. There it sat, gleaming in the light as it nestled amongst the Mastersmith’s other beautiful (and sharp) goods. Every inch of it screamed “I am incredibly romantic, but only if you are a little bit of a psychopath.” In other words, it was made for her.

And it was within her price range… but only barely. Oh Faranth she had to have it, but she didn’t fancy blowing every single mark in her pocket this early in the Gather. Haggling was something that people did, right? She could try haggling?

“That’s a handsome piece you’ve got there. Listen, if it’s for a… special someone, shall we say… would you consider offering a small discount? Think of the romance.”

More like think of the murder, but nice try, V’ell.

Serdek - Peya's Stall
6 marks

The flight over on dragonback had been positively terrifying, but Serdek was tired of trying to make do with Lower Caverns craftsmanship, and if she wanted the kind of masterwork that Benden was attracting, she had no choice. She had come alone, her wher left safely at Malvren to sleep for the remaining hours of daylight, and the stonesmith wasn't at all interested in wasting her time with frilly things. In, out, done. She was there for a new saddle (though she had been making do with an old borrowed saddle on Sersk, it was just far too worn to be a good solution long-term) and possibly some Smithwork. Serdek liked smithwork. It reminded her of home. So when she caught sight of the Mastersmith, she paused in her quest for a new saddle, thrusting the paper with Sersk's measurements on it into her pocket as she approached Peya's stall.

It was good work. That was apparent immediately. Though Serdek's gaze wandered briefly over the fancier knives that the Mastersmith had laid out, she shook her head. No, that was a bit much. The plain knives - probably not Masterwork, but Serdek wasn't exactly the sort who cared - were more her speed. She tested the heft of one of the longer knives, then set it aside and looked at some of the other work. ...Brass knuckles. That...was a thought.

A good thought. If anyone came after her...that might well be faster than a knife. She glanced over at the other woman - the greenrider looking into the unnecessarily extravagant diamond knuckles, and barely refrained from making a noise of incredulous disgust or shaking her head. "How much for the normal knuckles and a knife?" she asked gruffly, glad that at least the woman behind the stall wasn't wearing dragonrider's knots. At Benden, the riders were all but inescapable, she was sure, but that still didn't mean she wanted to go near them if she had a choice.

Toska - Killian's Stall
4 1/8 marks

Toska grinned as she skirted stalls, the thrill of delight that came of the first Gather in turns making her giddy as she slid through the crowd after S'vor's speech. Music, dancing, food...Gather! Gathers were absolutely magnificent, and Toska intended to make the best of the happy occasion. She was looking for fabric and leather. If the leatherworker had good bolts...well, maybe she'd be able to negotiate. There were always jackets to be patched and improvements to be made, and a proper leatherworker might even be able to supply her with better thread and some tips. Maybe if she caught him at a good time...

Tosk pressed against her legs, the half-grown gold crooning low in her throat and looking eagerly around at everything. All of it was exciting to the wherling, exciting and interesting and new and she really hoped that Tosk's get nice things for Tosk?

Maybe, darling. We'll see what there is, yeah?

Yes!

Okay, babe. We'll take a look around and see what we can get you.

But first, the Gather. Food. Refreshments. Food. Food was important, and drink. And the bite in the air, the one that ceaselessly reminded the tropics-bred goldhandler that Benden was not, in fact, a rainforest, called for wine. Good wine, she hoped - and she doubted she'd be disappointed, once she saw the spread at the vintner's stall. This was how Gathers were supposed to be. "Is that mulled? Ooh," she paused for a moment, thinking, before forging on. "I'll have a cup of that, please," she said brightly, sliding an eighth-mark across the table to Killian and giving the vintner a dazzlingly bright smile.

Celandine - Splat the Tunnelsnakes
5 4 7/8 marks

Celandine made her way through the gather with absolute glee, moving as fast as her bad leg allowed in the rush to see everything, so that she could then take her time to decide what she was going to spend her marks on. New clothes were a given, and games, and - ooh, speaking of games, those looked like fun! Her plan to look at everything first was quickly abandoned, and she veered over to see what exactly the games entailed.

Lucky Dip was interesting - and incredibly simple - and had the best chance of a prize, but hitting the 'tunnelsnakes' was definitely going to be more fun.

"I'll try!" she declared, voice bright, then handed over her marks to have a very enthusiastic go of it...and, as it happened, not a very skilled go of it, but the tunnelsnakes she did splat were very thoroughly splatted!

G'nar - Lucky Dip
4 7/8 marks left

G'nar had thought about setting up a stall but decided that first he would take a browse around to see if he had any competition for his wares that he'd left with Jareth, wrapped up so no one could sneak a peek, that's if Jareth let anyone get close enough to see them anyway.

He eyed the old man with a gold flit and listened with interest as the man spoke about the game. He was very interested when the man spoke about firelizard eggs being available. He didn't have one yet, despite wanting one, he liked the little pets. "I'll have a go" he said, his deep voice almost booming despite him not speaking very loudly. He stick his hand in the pot once he handed over his marks.

EDIT

He pulled out a blue token but nothing interested him, he only wanted a firelizard egg .... or possibly that Feline toy, he knew from looking at it that it boasted real fur, he wondered briefly where the fur had come from "I get a free go right?" he asked, "if'n i don't want a prize"

G'nar - Lucky Dip
4 7/8 marks left

He got the go ahead to have a free go after declining the prize he won beforehand, he didn't need anything on that prize list so he wasn't interested.

G'nar grumbled when he got a lesser token .. but then there was that Wher toy or the sweets, ..."I'll take the sweets" he said, took his prize then walked off towards Jareth, he'd grab his wares and set up later.

Valeska – Lucky Dip
4 & 7/8 marks

Carnival games. If her old wingleader had caught her playing carnival games, the feisty brownrider would have flipped a tit. Games of skill, that was one thing - and if there had been any kind of archery game, then Valeska would have put down any number of marks to win it. But games of chance...

Well, it was a festive occasion and Valeska didn't have anything better to do.

With a cheerful smile to the proprietor, she put down an eighth-mark and drew out a token. Not one of the red ones, alas. But she could still trade it in for a prize, so it wasn't a complete loss! She retrieved one of the mugs with a sarcastic saying on it - good, she'd have something to put her klah in, and then people would be duly warned not to bother her before she'd finished said klah.

S'aak - Tunnelsnake Splat
4 3/4 marks

...Silly carnival games. He was wasting his time playing silly carnival games, but the socks full of sand popping out of a tube...it was compelling. There was something deep down inside every human, he suspected, that just secretly wanted to hit small, fast-moving objects with something heavy. As many times as possible.

Forking over the eighth-mark for the prize, he couldn't help the sheepish smile he gave the woman running the stall. He took the proffered bat, took aim, and waited.

Faranth, they were way faster than he expected! He struck at all the socks as they came past, but only managed to hit about half of the dozen-odd "tunnelsnakes" he thought he counted. "Ah, well," he said sheepishly, giving the woman a wry half-smile. "I tried, right?" And then he shrugged and turned away.

Liana - Lucky Dip
4 7/8 marks

Lia had pulled a blue token from the bin, which looked to be fairly good. But when she looked over the prizes, there wasn't anything she particularly wanted. She could probably find a use for some of them, but the chance at something else was too tempting. "I'll trade this in for another try, then," she told the stall owner, handing him the token. Then she stuck her hand in again and fished around for a new token.

Edit: This time she ended up with a white token, a lesser prize. Still, the hat seemed more useful to her than one of the blue-token prizes. "I'll have one of the nice leather hats, please," she told the stall owner, offering him her chip. She accepted the hat he handed to her, then for lack of a better place to carry it, put it on her head. Now, did she want to take another go, or just go set up her stall?
