A very angry looking female hyena sat in the mouth of a huge elphant skull. Her ears were pressed back, eyes narrow slits as they glared out infront of her. A fair amount of time had passed since the female had taken a major step in her life; she had decided to bear children. Of course, it wasn't that she really wanted offspring, it was just that she needed them, needed them to carry on in her place as the leader of her pack. They were simply to be heirs, nothing more.
With a sigh, the female leaned her head on the edge of the bone, wondering where the father of this abomination had run off to. Not that she was especially eager to see him, in fact, she had taken to avoiding the male of as late. It was an awkward feeling being around him. With a shake of her head and a huff, Mafa stood, shaking her coat once she was out. The physical changes on the female were already apparent. She was no longer a lanky, twig thin hyena, she was filling out on the middle, filling out quite a bit. She'd have to go hunt soon, she was hungry more often nowadays. Whatever was in her stomach squirmed a bit, making Mafa flinch, jumping in the air a little. She was terribly on edge, and this current state was not helping.

The young, but steadily growing, hyena hadn't run off. In fact he'd tried to stay close to his pack leader, well at least as close enough so as to be under her protection - especially at night when sleeping. He'd found himself a portion of skeleton, a half-buried pelvis and ribcage, that provided shelter but that also had thin enough spaces inbetween the ribs so he could fit through and nothing larger. And this was within sight of the massive skull in which his alpha resided so he felt safe.
He looked up now at the skull, pausing in his bone gnawing, and spotted movement. Ah, Mafa was about! He was keen to see her but she'd been rather odd recently. Acting odd, slowly filling out, and with a faint oddness to her scent. He may know a little about scrounging for food and preaching the evils of lions, but pregnancy was completely new to the juve. He hadn't a clue what was going on with the powerful female.
Maybe.... a nice marrow-filled bone would lighten her spirits? Or at least put him in her good books enough to be able to stick about? With that in mind he picked up the other untouched bone he'd been saving and trotted over to the huge skull.

Mafa tested the air for any foreign scents with a light sniff, her ears pinning back as the smell of another hyena floated into the area. The female bristled for some reason, a low growl coming from her throat. But at the figure approached, she realized that it was only Rasuli, trotting toward her with a large bone in his mouth. It was then that Mafa eased up, she didn't mind the young hyena's company at all. Infact, she was grateful that he had come; she didn't want to be all alone with the pup growing inside of her, it creeped her out in a sense. This whole pregancy spiel was a whole new experience to Mafa. She was a roller coaster of emotions to start, always hungry, always lonely, even though she knew she wasn't alone. She wanted it to all be over with. Her head rose at Rasuli's arrival, he'd grown,
"Rasuli, how have you been?"
There was a softer edge to her voice that hadn't been there before, not that Mafa actually realized it, as much as she was trying to force them back, her motherly instincts were starting to rear their ugly heads.

Tukutu, out looking for something to eat himself, was amused at the thought that Mafa probably couldn't hunt as well as she used to be, so he was bringing back a decently-sized zebra thigh. Of course, he had to sneak on the Pridelands to actually find the already dead zebra, 'cause hell, he wasn't going to get a hoof in the face hunting alone. He had just gotten closer to where Mafa's skull home was, when he heard a muffling of noises. So, obviously Mafa wasn't alone. He hung back for a moment...unsure. He could just go off and eat the thigh for himself, but then he'd get fat too, and Mafa would never let that go unnoticed. Not when she was getting fat too.
He shrugged to himself and slowly padded his way in, giving a nod at Mafa and dropping the thigh infront of her. He peered at the other hyena, this...juve. He sniffed in the air as his mind processed it. That odd scent that he had discovered, mixed with Mafa a while ago. He'd never actually met the other, but that didn't matter to Tuk. He gave a nod to the juve, also, still standing where he came in.

Rasuli paused a few feet from the even larger hyena. She was alot bigger than he really remembered now that he thought about it. One because she had reached her full-grown size (a good lion-cub-intimidating size Rasuli thought) and second because she was putting on weight around the middle. It made him stare for a second, though he was smart enough not to call a female fat. Must just be that she'd found some good eatings.
And there was also the comment that made him pause. He knew Mafa tollerated him more than others, it was a fact he was rather proud of, but he'd never heard her ask him... how he was? He blinked. "Ahh. Alwight. Oou?" He answered, slurring through the bone he carried in his jaws.
He was just about to drop the 'gift' at her feet when the large male approached. With a memory for names and faces, Rasuli recognised him as Tukutu. He'd seen him at the meeting before and Mafa had mentioned him too. Said she didn't like him all that much either.... so what was he doing here? His scent had been about the place too.
Watching, his ears flicked back as Tuk presented his much larger and meatier offering. His eyes narrowed slightly for a moment and he took a step to the side though he didn't want to further his distance from his alpha much. He decided to keep the bone to himself then, since it was hardly worth considering against a flank of zebra flesh.

Mafa nodded as Rasuli stood near her, he was growing up to be a strong hyena. It was then that she noticed that yet another male had come to visit her. Well speak of the devil, it was Tukutu himself. Seemingly, he had brought her something too. All these gifts made her want to lash out. What, was she no longer capable of doing anything for herself? Mafa glared momentarily, but it soon faded. She wanted to be mad, but her raging hormones settled her down enormously.
"Tha-thanks Rasuli... Tukutu" she blinked at Rasuli's question, shaking her head lightly, "Different, very different"
Mafa winced lightly as she spoke these words, never before had they come out of her mouth. She was in too much of a good mood for it to last too long.

Tukutu didn't say anything at first, just looked at the pair. Well, whatever, wasn't his business if Mafa was trying to be some sort od cradle robber, not like the mutt had and parents, most likely.
Tuk's ears perked forward as Mafa spoke. Interesting, and different indeed. She'd been avoiding him since the incident, and it wasn't sitting to well with him....so he had just let her do whatever she wanted, not bothering to get in her way. He did notice that she didn't seem to eat as much, probably because moving was becoming more difficult, so he'd take care of her, in a way, through the shadows, since she just...didn't seem to want him around.
So instead of talking to Mafa, Tukutu turned to the little juve taht was quite close to Mafa. "I've scented ya 'round here a 'fore, but ah've never gotten yer name."

The momentary glare from Mafa makes the youngster reconsider his actions. But she soon thanks him? It's a rather confusing encounter and Rasuli is getting a little concerned. Yes, she was different just as she said. But what could it be? Nothing much seemed to have changed around the place - he'd not heard of Mafa's encounter with the god or knew about Ausha's spawn.
He tries to be as casual as possible as he wanders to the pile of bones and other bits of scrap outside Mafa's den and deposits his own near them. "No problem." He mutters. "Found a couple that were still good... But... what do you mean different? Different how?"
Walking back again, he sits nearby Mafa and looks up as Tuk speaks up. "Rasuil." He answers. "And you're Tukutu right? I've heard of you. And saw you at the gathering."

Mafa's gaze flickered, looking away from the two males and down to the dusty earth. She turned from them lightly, her eyes now looking intently at the zebra flank. The female licked her chops, she could use that right about now, but she'd save it for later, eat it when she was alone or something of the sort. Peeling her gaze from the meat, Mafa took a few steps toward Tukutu, her still cold eyes focused on the younger of the two males. She was rather shocked in a way to find that they've never formally met.
Out of all the other hyenas, she spent the most time with these two, more with Rasuli than Tuk though, which was odd, that she put such trust into a young newcomer. But he had a good brain, a good mind set, he was a good hyena. And Tukutu, he was just Tukutu, /her/ Tukutu as of late, as much as she'd deny it. Her ears pinned back at the youngster's question, she hadn't told anyone about herself being pregnant yet. With a sigh, she glanced at Tuk and then back to Rasuli, lifting her head up and holding it high, her tone was full of frankness,
"Pregnant Rasuli, I'm going to have pups"

(( <- Couldn't resist showing him off. whee )) The way Mafa wandered closer to Tukutu, her ears laying back, Rasuli wondered if he'd asked the wrong thing? He was starting to think he souldn't have asked at all and so lowered his head in submission.
When she answered him though he looked up, quite surprised. Pregnant? He'd not heard the term. He was too young for it to be anything to concern him and he'd only recently met up with a bunch of hyena which weren't related, so no one had taken the time to explain what it meant. Was it a kind of illness?
But 'pups' he did know. He was a pup. Or rather, he'd been a pup - he was growing out of that stage quickly now. And from the way Mafa said it, it seemed the condition 'pregnent' led to 'pups'. Which were baby hyenas who had a mother... so these would be Mafa's pups and she'd be their mother! Well that made sense in a way.
"You're going to have pups?" He asked, sounding somewhat confused about the details but growing more excited. "When? How many?" His mind was already thinking of how the pups would be like him. Eager to please their mother and their alpha.

Tukutu's emerald green eyes watched the juvenile hyena as he gave a name, and nodded. "Rasuli. Ah'll try ta remember that." He shifted in his weight and watched the swapping of words between the two. He could sense that there was some sort of connection between the two that Mafa never gave, which made Tuk's nose twitch. This kid must be worth something then, since Tuk trusted Mafa with nearly everything.
So he'd just observe for now, and speak if he was spoken too. Hopefully it wouldn't be too boring. Not like he had things to do.

((@.@ He is sexaaayy! *Tries to persuade Mafa to rob some cradles* Maf: D: Ugh, you human))
Mafa scowled as Rasuli deliberated on her words, he seemed confused on the whole subject, and she couldn't blame the kid. He was no female, and he sure wasn't old enough to go running around with females either; Mafa wouldn't stand for that. The youth's questions came as a great surprise to Mafa. No one had said a kind word about the up coming pups since she had concieved them. Not that father, sure as hell not herself. It felt weird talking about the little parasites growing within her. The alpha shifted uncomfortably and shook her head. Her tone was changing now from a softer one to a more irratable and harsh one, Mafa was having more mood swings with this ordeal than usual,
"I don't know Rasuli, no use in asking, I just know something's there, alright? And hopefully, they'll be out soon, I can't stand them there"
Mafa huffed, tossing her head violently, a silent glare being sent in Tukutu's direction, all his fault, she still held him accountable for the little demon in her womb. Mafa lowered her head in a small fit of anger, batting a small bone away from her paws. Her hormones were raging and unfortunately for her, Mafa had no ability to control them.

The juve lowered his head and pinned back his ears at her reprimand. Well he didn't know that she didn't know. But perhaps it was questioning too much? He could only assume her mood change to one which was alot more snappy and irritable was caused by his curiousity. Some of it was sated though. She spoke of the pups being 'there' and hopefully 'out soon'. Could explain her expanded belly?
"Right... sorry Mafa." He stepped back and then looked at how Mafa turned to glare at Tuk. Maybe he knew more about it? Although Rasuli couldn't believe anyone would know more than their alpha. But on the other hand he might be more willing to explain things to him. "But why are there pups? Although they will help the pack's numbers."

Mafa sighed in an irritated manner, today, the young hyena's questions were wearing on her patience. She scowled, shaking her head,
"There are pups because I need them. The lions already have cubs running around, carrying their blood line. We need to keep up with the lions"
It was as simple as that, it was an arms race of sorts, at least in Mafa's mind. The female winced lightly as there was a twitch of movement in her womb, she hated it. She wanted to be alone again. But she knew, she wasn't going to be alone for quite a long time. Mafa's head jerked back to the males,
"Speaking of pack numbers, we still need more" Mafa took a sharp breath in with another once, the pup obviously bothering her. "Do your damndest to get more"

Rasuli suppressed a whine as the much larger female scowled at him. She wasn't usually this upset with him! Well... she was never really pleased but she did act reasonably to him - which was better than how she treated other hyenas.
Deciding to avoid an angry swipe or bite, he simply nodded in agreement with her and didn't ask anything else. "Good idea. Can't let them outnumber us in the graveyard." Which was true, he did think it was a good idea. If you couldn't find hyenas to join their great cause, then have pups.
But it seemed Mafa still wanted new hyenas found and returned to their pack. She'd never asked Rasuli to do any recruiting before though, he'd mostly just scouted and scavenged, or patroled the boarder as he prefered to think of it. And he quickly realised he'd not met any hyenas that weren't already part of the pack. He'd have to go looking further afield.
"Yes, of course." He replied, a little uncertainly. Mafa was obviously cranky with him and seemed somewhat unwell. Was that part of having pups? Well he didn't want to ask her. "I'll go and see if there's any new scents around..." He stood, pausing a moment in case she had any other instructions for him.
