Charlotte waited patiently on the deck of the ship for Kayden to return. One of her crewmates that had opted to stay behind like her and Kayden came out from the cabin and bandaged her arm properly. He was a bit rougher than her Dovaa companion would've been (Charlie knew that for a fact), but she was grateful nonetheless and smiled warmly at him when he'd finished. He patted her heavily on the head, making the small girl slump under the weight and wandered off back to his own business. Char crawled onto the wooden railing, taking up a watchful perch facing the land. She tugged her knees up to her chest and was able to balance pretty well, despite the slim surface. She hoped the attention she'd have to give to keep herself from falling over and into the water would be enough to stay awake with, if only until Kayden returned.

And he did take his time coming back to her. At least, it felt like it. When she finally saw that mass of tangled pink hair approaching the ship at a slight jog, Char sighed in relief, flopping backwards over the rail and landing on her back with a grunt. She sprawled on the wooden floor, feeling more relaxed then than she had all day long. She was safe, and Kayden was safe. She'd tried her hand at fighting dragons just to have the Dovaa come to her rescue again and again. Luckily, he hadn't been hurt for it. Her eyes drifted sleepily shut, thankful that everyone had made it out just fine.

"Charlotte."

The sound of Kayden's boots echoed across the deck, vibrating through her back and her skull. His voice sounded firm, but urgent. He stopped beside her, his tall frame casting a shadow over her face.

"Get up, Char."

She didn't really want to, but she didn't imagine Kayden would make such serious sounding demands of her if he didn't need it to happen. She cracked one eye open to look at him. Already, he was offering a hand to help her up with. Her gaze traveled up questioningly to his face, hesitant to take the offered appendage if it meant she had to get up. "What's happening?" She asked blearily, confused by the demand.

Impatiently, he waved his hand in front of her, silently urging her to take it and get up without any more of an argument. Of course, Charlotte was not so understanding. Groaning, she pushed herself into a sitting position, quirking an expectant eyebrow for him to explain himself before she moved any farther. He rolled his eyes at her, but couldn't help the tiny smile her impetuousness brought to his face. "You want ter slay Dragons, don't yer?" He questioned.

Charlie was a bit taken aback by the question. When she'd set off a few hours ago, she really thought she had wanted to hunt dragons. But after the day's events, she wasn't sure if she was cut out for it, after all... She wasn't aware that she was looking up so helplessly at Kayden until he reached down, took her by the arm and pulled her up with enough force that her feet left the ground and she was midair for a split second. He hugged her, tightly, nearly crushing her little spine. A tiny squeak of surprise erupted from her lips, but she instantly felt comforted. Comforted and happy and her heart leaped from her chest. She swung her arms around him to hug him back, though not with nearly the same bone-crushing result. "I'll help you, Char." He whispered.

Earlier, she thought she hadn't needed his help at all. Kayden was strong and brave and he'd end up doing all the work, instead of just helping. But she couldn't do it alone. She really did need some kind of assist, or she'd never get anywhere. She nodded, and he set her back on her feet and took her hand, leading her off and away from the ship.

It didn't take Charlotte long to realize they were headed right back in the direction of their previous battle. And instantly afterwards pained roars and howls could be heard. The Orderite turned a fearful gaze to her companion. He looked... saddened...? But led her forward, anyway. The cries grew louder and louder until Charlotte was sure they had to be right before them. The roars only made Charlotte nervous, and with every step, Kayden seemed more distant, somehow.

Finally, they came upon the creatures, three shrieking green dragons, writhing across the ground. After a moment, she realized it was the same three she'd left Kayden with just earlier... Charlie was confused, her fuchsia orbs narrowed and her head cocked. After a second, she understood. The dragons had their wings pinned under what had to be tons of heavy rocks. They screeched and writhed, desperate to free themselves. Charlotte's orbs widened, and she turned a shocked gaze to Kayden. His brown eyes were half-lidded and somber. It didn't take an intelligent person to realize that this was his doing. "I want to teach you." He said quietly. "But there's no point in teaching you tactics if you lack the heart to actually kill anything." Without another word, he passed her a knife.

Charlotte was hesitant. It would be much easier to kill something attacking her than it would be to dismantle these three thrashing beasts... They seemed, smaller somehow, with the masses of rocks trapping them. "They're hurting, Charlotte. Be quick about it." He ordered.

She found herself lurching forward with the knife. A high whimper escaped her and she twisted frantically at the handle of the blade. Screaming, she dove forward at one of the Dragons, aiming and stabbing at its neck repeatedly until she was covered in blood and the Dragon was still. Her fingers trembled. It felt terrible, even though the poor thing was probably looking forward to death... There were still two more.

"Kayden..." She whined sadly, hoping for a reprieve. He shook his head and offered her none. She wasn't sure if she could go at the next one like she had the first. She approached more slowly, watching it helplessly. It turned it's head to snarl and spit at her, and Charlotte swallowed. They were beasts, but they still deserved better than a butcher... She centered herself and knelt next to its head. With a single swipe, she cut a deep gash into its throat. The crimson liquid spilled freely from it, leaving the dragon gurgling for only a few seconds before it collapsed. Char sat quivering. It took her a moment to realize that despite there being a third dragon, all was silent. She looked over to see an arrow sprouting from right between its eyes. Kayden had been merciful enough to handle it for her. Slowly, the Dovaa walked over and handed her two green orbs. "These are yours, Char." He chuckled sadly. "You scared me at first." Kayden admitted. "I wasn't going to sow you any cool moves if you were going to turn into a creepy butcher!"

Charlotte shook her head and let Kayden pick her up to carry her back to the ship and the water to be cleaned up.
