What a day it was turning out to be. The pale lioness stretched herself out further in the scant shade of the tree she'd found. Athena was off. Probably wooing some other female, she thought with irony. It was in his nature and she couldn't fault him for that. He had so much to share. Had he sired cubs and simply left then it would have been different. He willing took on any cubs the females didn't want.
Zenobia slitted an eye to see if any of the Athena-spawn were nearby. When their moms didn't want anything or hardly anything to do with them, she became de-facto mom. With Athena around that was easily anything but a chore. She enjoyed raising the cubs for the most part. Her eyes squinted as she looked up into the sky; the sun bright, harsh, and punishing. With a grunt she rolled over onto her other side. The bands on her back leg chiming softly.

Eos was a bit beside himself. He had recently met two very nice lionesses and they bot made him feel strangely. He thought they were beautiful, but was unsure what his feelings toward them might mean. He had just met the two, and yet he could not stop thinking of either one of them. The male wondered if perhaps he should talk to someone about how strange he felt. Maybe he was ill? He doubted that, but he was still curious enough about the way he was being haunted by the females' faces that he would try speaking to his mother... well, his adopted mother. His real mother had other things to worry over, and besides he was not quite sure where she resided. Eos might have been going to find Zenobia to talk, but his mischivious side would not let him just walk up the lioness. No, first he had to creep, silent as a shadow, up on her from behind and sit, crouched behind her as she slept. He did not want her to be able to see him before he got on her and she had a habit of opening her eyes at the most inconvenient moments. Her habbits made it much better to creep up from behind so she did not have the chance of spotting the creeper early. The bright male reached out one paw from his crouching place, stretching it to full length, and ever so lightly touched Zenobia's tail.

She was about as limp as a lioness could be. Her eyes were closed when her spider-sense cub-stalking sense went off. The white lioness didn't budge. Instead she listened. Yup there was the faint sound of a paw being placed delicately down. Zenobia flicked her tail just as Eos touched it. Her head lifted up as her eyes opened to see him.
"Very good Eos. What can I do for you today hm?" Her red eyes regarded him thoughtfully as she waited. It wasn't like any of Athena's adult cubs to come and talk to her. Not unless something was bothering them. She didn't think it was anything urgent or Eos wouldn't be this calm.

Eos gave Zenobia a wide grin and moved closer. He nuzzled her face and licked her ear affectionately. "Hello, mum. I just thought I would come to talk for a bit... we do not do that enough, you know." Okay so he was buying himself time while he though of how to approach the subject, so sue him. The lion was still young enough that female troubles were hard to wrap his brain around in many ways, including how to talk about them. This was part of why he had to speak to Zenobia about them. The other part was he saw it as much too easy for his father to get females. How could his fluffy, sweet father understand how Eos felt, when the older male could just turn on a bit of charm and get any and every female he wanted then walk away friends when they had cubs? Not to mention that Athena had Zenobia as his mate and could still do that. Eos was sure that his father could not possibly understand the difficulty, so here he was asking the only lion he thought might understand, Zeno. She was a female and a mother, and they understood EVERYTHING, or so he thought.

Zenobia gave a laugh and patted the large lion on the shoulder. "Laying on the affection I see. You're too big to me to grab and tuck under my paw anymore." She gave the bright male an equally affectionate headbump. "You are always welcome to come and talk my dear son." She sensed something else was behind this and waited. Young lions sometimes needed time to figure their words out. The white lioness let her eyes scan the area automatically for danger then turned her attention back to him.
"Are your siblings well?" Zeno gave a bit of an opening for him to start talking. She was pleased that he wasn't shuffling or mumbling anything. A soft pat of her paw on the ground invited the large male to settle down beside her.

Eos settled himself in beside Zenobia and sighed. The lioness really was the only mother he had ever known, and he was finding himself much more at ease on trying to tell her what his issue was. "I met two lionesses... I like them both.. and I did things with one..." Oh yeah, that sounded SO good. He was really going to dig himself a hole here before he even got started. What if the female was pregnant? He hadn't even THOUGHT about that yet. Crap. Well... he might have cubs to work into the equation if so. "I am not sure which I like better." Eos did not know what to think and the idea of cubs in things yet just made it bewildering. Maybe he should just hide under a rock for a while and let things work themselves out. He doubted that would work, though. Maybe his mother would be disappointed in him, but he was pretty sure she would have some words of wisdom on the whole mess too. He half leaned on the white lioness for support.

She listened quietly as he laid out his quandary. Her toes tapped softly against the ground as she thought before replying. Judging by his expression he already realized one possibility, so she didn't bother saying anything on that. Zeno hoped with his father's example, Eos would be willing to care for any children that might come of his dalliance.
"How do the ladies feel?" She asked quietly. It wasn't just about him, and he needed to see that. He should also consider how the lionesses felt about him and each other.

Eos sighed at the question. It was one of the reasons he had come to his mother. He was not sure how the ladies felt about him. He thought the one liked him all special like, but the one he had dallied with he was not sure liked him more than just a dalliance. The were both wonderful ladies, but what was he going to do? He could easily screw up everything with both of them and then they and he would all be unhappy. This was not at all what he had wanted to happen. He gave another sigh and flopped down flat. "I don't know, mother. I think the one really likes me... the other one I just don't know how she feels. I mean, I think she likes me, but I don't think she wants to stick around. I just don't know." Eos really wanted to hide under his paws right now. He knew he was doing the right thing by talking to his "mother" for advice, but he also knew that Zenobia was probably very disappointed in him right now. How did his father handle this crap? He still could not understand how Athena did it.

The grey lioness flicked her ears at her adopted son's sigh. Zenobia gave a leisurely stretch with her front legs. Her sharp claws scrapping the ground. She looked up at the sky as if contemplating how blue it was today.
"Eos. If you wanted to know how I felt, what would you do?" Oh her son had gotten himself into pickled herdbeast this time. She waited a few moment for him to really think about it. "My dear son you should ask how they feel." She smiled at him.
"Be honest with them and yourself. And be willing to accept that their choices may not be the same as your own." Zeno gave the lion an affection nuzzle.

Eos looked very lost even after Zeno nuzzled him. "But what if neither of them likes me?" He was a bit of a scardy lion at times, but eh, it was his mother he was talking to, he could get away with it. His adoptive mother was quite the tolerant lioness when it came to letting him have his moments and then kicking him in the rump to go do what he had to anyway. Right now was a prime example of something he was going to get kicked in the rump to go do. He wanted to hide as long as he could, though. "I would be just as scared to ask you what you felt on something like this too, mom. I don't have dad's talent for charming ladies and making them love me." Eos really wished sometimes that he did. His father was absolutely wonderful at getting female felines to love him or at least like him enough to give him cubs. It was like a superpower, and the orange lion could have used that right about now. "He makes it look so easy... I wish I could do that..." His father could be as honest as he wanted and never have a cross word said to him and here Eos was facing the potential of two very angry lionesses.

The lioness looked on him with understanding. "My dear that is the way these things some times. There's not you can do about it but do your best and accept the outcomes. You may find that you devote yourself to one lioness, or you might be like your father and spread your love as wide as you can." She gave him an ironic grin.
Zeno shook her head at him and bwapted him with her paw. "Fool. I never had this problem. Neither does your father. However, you are not me, nor your father. You are you. You are and always be Eos." She twitched her tail waiting for him to get over wishing he was his father. All young boys went through this stage.

Eos snuggled up to his adoptive mother and sighed heavily. "I hope one of them will have me... I only really want one lioness. I think I would get very tired doing what Father does." The young male knew he could never keep up with more than one lady at a time like Athena. He also had a desire to settle into one spot and raise cubs with just one female. It would never do for him to keep doing what he had with these ladies if he wanted that, though. The orange lion would have to try very hard to fix this and not do anything like it again. "I know I am not you, mother... I could never be as beautiful as you." Eos batted his eyes at the lioness, sweetly. He had some of his father's charm, just not the knack for using it. He was hoping to get Zeno to laugh, but he was not sure if it would succeed. "I guess I shall have to go track down the females and speak to them... It could take a bit. I will let you know what happens, mother." If he did not she would skin him alive anyway, so he had to tell her. He knew this, and would return on his own to do that.

Zenobia wondered if her adopted son would choose the cowardly path if given the option. "Would you like me to talk to them? Explain the whole situation?" She really hoped he would take her advice from earlier and do it himself. The lioness smiled at the one break through. He realized he was his father's son, but didn't have to hold his father's ways.
She gave a playful hiss at the compliment. "You are beautiful too Eos, in that manly sort of way." Now she did laugh and patted his shoulder with paw. Zeno nodded with understanding and a smile. "I look forward to your return and your story son. Better start sooner than later. Travel well." Eos was growing up. Soon the youngest cubs would be older and Athena would be looking for more cubs.

Eos shook his head at his mother's offer. He was not going to have her take on his burdens. He had gotten himself into this mess. He would have to be the one to get himself out of it, no matter how badly it turned out. "No, no. I have to do this myself... It will not do for them to think me a coward on top of everything else I've messed up." He might have been many things, but a coward was not one of them. The orange male did not back down from his responsibilities easily... even if these ones terrified him to no end. He would have to blame that on his parents and how they had raised him. "Not I. I am a plain rock in comparison to my lovely mother, the beautiful silver butterfly. I will be back soon enough... hopefully with good news." Eos stretched himself and rose. He had a bit of travel ahead before he could fix things. It was best to get started now. He headed off with head held high and hopes that he could keep it that way after he spoke to the two lionesses that he was going to see. He certainly could use the ego boost of things going well for him. The gods knew he took enough blows to his ego most of the time.

The female nodded and smiled her approval to the male. He had learned, and he was grown up. She wondered if Athena already knew about this or not. Probably not. Zeno pondered if Eos would tell his father before he left.
She gave a shake of her mane and laughed. "Ah I see your father's silver tongue hiding in you. Travel safely and swiftly my son. I'll be waiting for your return." No matter how much she denied it, she enjoyed being the butterfly of the group.
