Adrienne busied himself at the registers, trying to pry open the cash drawers, and looked up every now and then to any noise that happened inside the clothing store. He was feeling guilty, of course, for looting the store that he worked at, but he was a smart kid. He figured that if the epidemic were to eventually fade out, that he would have plenty of money to his disposal to rebuild a life for himself afterwards.
Yet either way, looting or not, it was recompense. After all, his boss did try to eat him earlier in the parking lot when he tried to drive home.
He smiled at the thought of finally shutting up the old bag, but then felt sorry quickly after. The old manager was sharp and mean to Adrienne, though was helpless without his gentle hand.
At the thought of having to beat her down, his arms got a sudden burst of strength from the anger at the situation, and the drawer popped open with a loud crack.
"Crap." He said under his breath while flinching at the noise, and looked around, though the echoing crack fortunately didn't disturb anything. This was the last drawer to loot, and he started to load the cash into the shopping cart next to him with the rest of it.
Just a while earlier, the other registers had still been left on, and he was able to open them manually, though the power went out right as he was getting to this one.
He finished loading every cent into the cart, and started to wheel it towards the back of the store where the lockers were, though turned back and jogged to the register. He had forgotten the bloodied chair leg, that he had used earlier to beat on the heads of his former boss, coworkers, and customers.
Before getting the idea of looting the money, he had just come back in from the parking lot, trying to drive back home, and the event was evident in that his hands were still shaking.
He slowly, and quietly made his way to the back of the store with the money. It was eerily quite in the town's only clothing good's store, for Adrienne's liking. He preferred it when he knew where dangerous things were, instead of knowing that they might jump out at him from anywhere, though quietly reassured himself that they were all out from the store.
Just the night before, the store had been filled with screams and groans, though it barely held any noise now, save for the creaking of the dusty rafters.
Eventually, he made his way to the back of the store to the employee lounge where the lockers where. He navigated the tables and chairs, and got to his own locker. Here he opened it, and flinched again when the lock opened with a loud click. He got over this faster, and started to load the cash inside, neatly stacking the hundred dollar bills first, and then loaded the rest inside.
