It hurt. Every motion and shift hurt. She coughed lightly, her head shaking a bit as she tried to keep her body strong. The plant let out a small cry of irritation, clinging tighter to her neck and hair. It made her flinch, but Feiurce continued moving onward with an irritated look on her features. She wasn’t going to allow that to bother her too much. If the plant was uncomfortable, then who cares? It could die for all she cared! But knowing that, she wasn’t sure if the death of the plant would mean the death of her. Shuddering, she looked down. That wouldn’t be a good thing at all. She quite enjoyed living.

”Honestly. You eat too much.” She murmured, her voice tight, muscles quivering.

Her entire life, Feiurce has been plagued with the plant that lived within her hair. The vines that twisted along her neck and into her hair pierced her flesh, growing within her. Whenever it got sick, she did. Feiurce could feel the poison seeping into her body as soon as it grew hungry. And it weakened her; far more than she wished to admit. Gulping, she took a deep breath, before surging forward once more, her hooves digging into the forest floor. She wasn’t sure where she was going… But she needed to find some place that the plant can eat. The thought of what she had to do in order to feed it made her feel physically ill. She hated it; hated the feeling of having to be so weak to this one small thing that was within her hair and body.

It had been approximately three weeks since the stallion had arrived in this particular area. He was on 'leave' as it were from his normal responsibilities and his superiors had been adamant that he take a few weeks, if not months, to rest and recuperate. He had worked too hard, or so they said, yet he'd shown no signs of exhaustion or over exertion - he would have considered their orders baffling had he not been aware that every fellow in the militia was entitled to a holiday now and then... he just hadn't taken any.

Nevertheless, even though the stallion had been obedient and had promptly departed for more pleasant climates, this had not stopped him from working. The moment word had gotten out that he was a healer, there had been multiple requests for his aid - both for unusual injuries and fairly predictable ones. Granted these injuries were not nearly as grievous or disturbing as he was accustomed to but work was work and if his superiors had known they would have most likely raked him over the coals - thus, he had chosen to use this day at the very least to relax.

...If he had one day of full relaxation they couldn't be disgruntled, after all, it was better than nothing.

Alas, as fate would have it, the spirits had other intentions for him this afternoon and as he wandered through the forest, it wasn't long before the large stallion stumbled upon the rather delicate Cerynei. His immediate thought was to step aside, for the draft stallion was without a doubt, an obstacle in the forest; but as he observed the mare he couldn't help but notice her erratic behaviour and unsteady footing - so much for his rest day, it wasn't in his nature to ignore this.

"What have you eaten?" he asked at last, a thick accent cracking through his voice as he broke the silence. His immediate thought was that she had been poisoned, he had yet to realise she had a parasite on her neck...

Feiurce blinked as she moved quietly. Though exhaustion was taking it's toll. Her eyes flickered down toward her hooves for a moment, and she took a deep, calming breath in to regain her composer. Lowering her head some, the mare nibbled at some leaves of a bush, hoping that she could give herself some nutrition and energy, if just for a little while longer. Her eyes flickered around for a moment, before she lifted her head and took another deep breath. She had to remain calm. If she got stressed, the plant would notice, and it could possibly get stressed and express discomfort and unwillingness to relax. As it was right now, it seemed to be calm, and was just resting; preserving it's own energy. But with any sharp movement she did, or any height of emotion, it could wake up; and in that, would press poison into her blood once more.

The voice startled her. She practically jumped, her legs instinctively backing her up and away from possible danger. The action, in turn, woke up the plant. It let out a small cry of displeasure, vines shifting and pressing closer to Feiurce's body, thorns pressing into her neck. It drew blood, coloring part of her white fur red; though just a tad bit. Glaring at her bangs, Feiurce winced, before her eyes flickered over and located the stallion. She stared for several moments, before noting the question he had asked earlier. It would be rude not to respond; but what kind of stallion just walked up and questioned what someone ate? She blinked in some confusion, before forcing a small smile onto her features, and tilted her head to the side.

"Eaten? Uhm... Grass, mostly... Why do you ask?" She stated, her voice wavering slightly. Maybe he was doing some sort of survey to see if she was dangerous...?

He hadn't intended to frighten her, in a manner of speaking he probably should have cleared his throat. However no matter what way he had approached her it was inevitable that he would cause a start, she had been unaware of his presence after all, and alerting her to his existence would have still caused an element of surprise. Nevertheless the stallion did have the decency to look sheepish, a strained and apologetic smile appearing on his lips as she acknowledged his presence. Rather than snap at him, she had instead chosen to answer his queries and it was only then that his apologetic smile turned into a deep frown.

She had only eaten grass? It sounded implausible, as she was a Cerynei and as a consequence, perfectly capable of eating grass without repercussions. If she had only eaten grass then something else must have entered her system through other means and caused such a reaction. Suffice it to say that the large stallion was baffled by this and if she hadn't been in such a state, he might have been so bold as to ask to study her ailment.

Alas, he took another step forward to close the distance between them and gave his head an abrupt toss to keep his forelock out of his eyes. His rather peculiar eyebrows had a way of preventing his mane from becoming bothersome but every now and then it had its moments - now was just one of those inopportune times!

"For all intents and purposes you look as if you're suffering from the affects of a poison," he replied at last, lips pursing into a thin line as he regarded the mare; it was only then that he noticed the small amount of blood that had dyed previously pristine hair to red... He fell silent at that, and with narrowed eyes, he took to observing her more closely in what might have been considered quite a rude way. Ah, but the more he looked, the more he saw - what in the name of goodness was on her neck.

"You have a plant on your neck," he remarked thoughtfully, his eyes tracing the line of thorns that grappled her. "How unusual."

Feiruce didn't move for a moment, watching him with a critical look in her eyes. If she wasn't starved, she would have been happy to meet someone new! She hadn't really interacted with anyone outside from her family in such a long time. Her deer like tail flicked lightly, before she tilted her head, watching him with a curious look in her eyes. He seemed to be confused, if not fully startled by the fact she said grasses. Yes she had eaten a few berries, and some leaves before, but they were all things she had eaten before. After all, berries, mostly strawberries, were delicious! Her father had given them to her when she was a foal, and she adored them. She smiled lightly at the memory, before her ears flicked up quickly when he spoke again. The plant shifted some. It seemed to be "sleeping" at the moment, and so it was rather quiet. Normally it screamed when she didn't feed it. She shifted some, before peering at him once more, eyes curious.

"Oh... Well... Uh..." It was honestly all she could muster up when he mentioned poison. Feiruce was certain the plant, which had been with her forever, was sapping her energy. Perhaps it was actually poisoning her at the same time. She tilted her head some, ears swiveling as if to listen if the plant was waking up. She didn't want him awake, didn't want him to cry. It gave her a headache, and made her body feel all the more unwilling to move. She peered back up at him with bright eyes, blinking for a moment, before taking a half step back. Was he analyzing her? She suddenly felt bare and open to the stallion, as if nothing could be hidden. Her eyes flickered down for a moment, not shyly, but almost ashamed. She didn't like when she was this weak, and that others saw her like this. It made her heart beat faster and her body feel more tense.

When he mentioned the plant, Feiruce looked up. She blinked, before her ears flicked once more back toward the plant in question. "Oh... Well yes. It's um.. It's been there since I was a foal." She said, her voice lowering lightly, as though scared to admit it. She had no idea why, but the stallion was putting her a little on edge, possibly due to the intensity of the eyes that seemed to see every slight feature she held.

He had seen oddities before, creatures with extra limbs or mutated features, but none had been subject to parasites before. All those limbs and features could be controlled, manipulated and used in an advantageous fashion. More to the point, none of them had subjected the individual to agony or discomfort... well, other than the mental scars some might hold due to the manner in which they had been treated by the general public. Thus, to find a living, breathing and functioning parasite that had been with an individual since birth was both concerning and fascinating, in that order, of course.

"From birth," he repeated, furrowed brows still present and hooves moving of their own accord. She may have stepped back, but he had elected to step forward, if only to inspect the object of his interest more closely. It seemed to be inactive, slumbering, but every now and then it seemed to shift. Nevertheless he was no fool and recognised that it was far from benevolent, the thorns that swept across her neck and cut into her flesh were an indication of this.

"And it poisons you?" he hazarded, his lips pursing as he examined the blue flower more closely. It resembled one of those fly traps he had seen in his travels, granted it was closed but the similarity was still there. "Why has no one tried to remove it?" he continued and shook his head, his eyes narrowing as he withdrew from her immediate personal space and backed away.

"If it is a scourge, it should not be catered for..."

It wasn't hard to feel overwhelmed and intimidated by the stallion. His eyes were ever sharp; seeing every small bit of her form. And it was as if she was trying to shy away from those eyes. Though out in the open like this, she was unable to. Her ears flicked lightly, pinning back against her head as she peered toward him. In her life, she was used to the plant; used to it piercing her flesh and screeching in her ears. She didn't think it odd until she was larger, and realized that she would have to feed the plant on her own. As a foal, her father did it, and didn't inform her what it was the plant ate. Flicking her small tail lightly, she took another step back, before tilting her head toward the stallion. Sighing softly, the mare lowered her eyes some. She seemed ashamed of the plant, and scared of it as well.

At the mention of her being poisoned, her ears shot up. Feiurce's eyes flickered up to stare toward the stallion with almost startled eyes. How could he tell? She shifted on her hooves, as if dancing on them, before peering at him once more. Gulping the lump in her throat, she stopped her fidgeting and stood still. Her eyes lowered once more, thinking for several moments, before lifting her gaze once more to stare toward him. The plant seemed to be aware of someone talking about it. It stirred slightly, vines shifting and digging into her skin again. She ignored it, a small flick of her ear showing the discomfort. It let out a small screech of irritation and hunger, before going quiet once more. "Um.. I have tried, sir. Well, father did. It tried to kill me when it was being removed, so... he stopped. So long as I keep it fed, I should be fine." She stated, voice lowering slightly.

"I see," the stallion still didn't seem to buy in to the mentality of catering what he regarded as a parasite. Suffice it to say that where he came from, such a thing would not be humoured. Steps would have been taken to remove it, kill or render it inert - if removal was not possible while it was 'alive' then there were a variety of other options to try...feeding it however, would not have been one of them. Unsurprisingly, he flicked a mild frown towards the stirring plant and shook his head, let no one say he wasn't prepared to cut that thing away if he were given half a chance!

"And exactly what does it eat?" he inquired darkly. If a plant was capable of such an impact, it was clear that it secreted some form of toxin, and those types of beings often ate something less than perfect themselves. Well, in a general sense at least, he was fairly certain there were poisonous individuals in the world who didn't eat toxic creatures but he surmised the vast majority did.

Nevertheless, while he might be curious as to what the thing ate, another issue plagued him. If her father had attempted to remove it as a child then what had she been trying to do that had caused her to acquire it? Was he to assume that such plants existed in the wild and he should be mindful that they might latch on to his own neck? If that were the case, he should probably invest in something a little sturdier than the collar around his neck... by the look of those thorns, it wouldn't offer much protection!

"While I do not dispute your father's decisions to cease his actions, I would have been inclined to pursue other methods of dealing with it other than catering for it..."

The mare was uneasy about the stare the stallion gave. It made her shift and be rather uncertain. She wasn't used to being questioned about this so much. Usually people saw the plant and fled, or flinched and said they were sorry, before leaving her alone to her quests. She never told anyone about the plant's eating habits. The thought of how it ate was... not in the best of ways. She often times would hate to describe it, even to her father. Her father, who was obsessed with beauty and the joys of the world... And they came to this. She had felt bad, as a foal, whining to her father and saying how she was in pain. Eventually she started to ignore it until she got so weak that she couldn't move. But that didn't settle well within Helberd's mind. Her father had grown cross with that option, and quickly settled the issue, informing her of how it really worked. From then on, she went to her father for multiple reasons. Until she was an young adult, really. And even now, still young, but not too young, she went to her father for help.

Feiurce shook her head, causing her mane and the plant to flail slightly. The plant let out a small screech of a noise at that, and clung a bit tighter, as though scared of being tossed off. She flinched, before sighing some, ears pinning back. Huffing lightly, she tossed her head very carefully to get bangs from her face, before locking her gaze on the stallion before her. He seemed to be rather curious about it... And hadn't run yet. She tilted her head, Cerynei tail flicking lightly behind her, before dancing lightly on her hooves. The mare peered up at him, her muscles giving a soft quiver, before she breathed out another sigh, trying to keep her mind about her. "Um... Not the pleasant of things..." She murmured at first, before lowering her gaze toward the grasses between her hooves. "It likes decaying flesh..." Even uttering those words made her stomach flip. She shuddered some, before lifting her gaze back up toward the stallion. Why was he so curious...

Dancing once more on her hooves, Feiurce couldn't seem to hold still. She didn't know what she was going to do, or what the stallion thought he could do. Though if he could help, she would gladly accept it. Tilting her head lightly to the side, she listened to that last statement, her ears snapping up. She quirked her head to the side, before shrugging her shoulders gently, and spoke in a soft tone, as though she was ashamed or scared. "We didn't know what else to do... And my father was scared I would be killed by it if I didn't.. I... We just... Adapted to it." She said, her voice tapering off.

He was inclined to be more disgruntled than the mare truly deserved; his nature a touch too jaded to appreciate that on occasions, parents may surrender to something like a parasite. He'd never had children and on occasions he forgot that keeping them alive, ensuring they weren't in pain and so forth, was sometimes more preferable than forcing a cure or experimenting until one was successful. Thus his brow remained furrowed as Feiurce continued to explain the plant to him and what it was inclined towards. Upon the revelation that it was partial to rotting flesh, he didn't seem to show any form of surprise whatsoever.

...He had yet to meet a parasite that didn't eat something extremely toxic.

His lips pursed into a thin line and then after a moment, he shook his head. His expression dissipated and after a few moments he seemed much warmer, or at the very least, approachable. His gaze of course, never left the plant, particularly when it elected to let out a destructive screech. Though soft it was enough to grate on him and the cogs of his mind continued to turn; it was immoral to force her to do anything, but that didn't necessarily stop him from pondering over possible cures and experiments to run.

If he couldn't cut it off, could he make it fall off?
Could he poison it and leave it an empty shell?

The list of questions was endless but he kept them to himself and simply released a small sigh. "That will do nothing good for your health," he stated at last, his tone dark. "If it intakes toxins, it will put them out too..."

"You never sought out one with experience to remove it?"

Feiurce glanced over toward the stallion with uncertain eyes. She blinked, her small deer tail flicking behind her. She tilted her head lightly to the side, before glancing down at her hooves as though ashamed. She hated the fact that the plant was what everyone focused on with her. Everyone just wanted to figure out what it was, what it would do, could it die, was it hurting her, what if they... She shook her head from the thoughts, causing the plant to clamp down on her with it's vines. She ignored the feel, and glanced back toward the stallion as he seemed to finish his thoughts. He seemed... softer, somehow. She flicked her ear lightly, before taking a half step back, more of a comfort than anything.

When he mentioned her health, Feiurce grimaced slightly. She lowered her head a bit, her ears pinning back. What if it did kill her? What if it did hurt her... She gulped, before looking over toward him once more. He continued to speak, and she thought about it for some moments, before lifting her head a bit. She turned fully to face him, before shaking her head slightly. "No... um... I never knew how to seek someone who could... could do that, you know? Father tried, but he said he couldn't find anyone. We thought about asking some creatures... bears or something, but it seemed too risky." She murmured, voice thoughtful.

After a few more moments, her ears snapped up, and the mare almost let out a small noise of disappointment. She stomped her front hooves a few times, before pinning her ears back once more. She took a step forward, her head tilting, before settling back. "I am so sorry! I did not introduce myself; and that is terribly rude of me. My name is Feiurce, and it is a pleasure to meet you, even if it is under such bad circumstances." She said quickly, her tail giving another small flick behind her.
