Hersilia was glad for the sun. The water from the rain shower a few days ago was being soaked back up to the clouds that hung above her head. Only a few clouds today. None, thankfully, the color of a wet white pelt. Or that would indicate more rain. She wasn't sure if she could handle more rain. A shower was rotten enough luck for the lioness. Even a little rain had the potential of creating mud. And with mud came filthy paws.

But no mud meant dust. Lots of dust that settled everywhere, be it fur or eyes. Dust was just as bad, maybe worse, than mud. At least mud could be washed away. Dirt in the eyes? That stung for hours until the only relief was more rain. It was a vicious, never-ending cycle.

Today, at least, there was no dust. Nor mud. The earth had soaked up what it could and what it couldn't was being pulled back to the sky. Hersilia lay on top of a flat rock, watching a small puddle as it slowly grew smaller and smaller until it was no longer there. Once gone, she sighed and got up, jumping off to go look for something to do. Maybe there was someone around to bother. As she had just eaten food was out of the question. Unless she happened to find a little rodent to play with. She might kill it once she was done torturing the poor thing, but she wouldn't eat it. Just leave it there for someone else. A bird, another scavenger. Anything would take it.

Yes, that was an idea. Now to find a mouse.
