Step 1: Capture Win: 50-100 (-5 for Drakeins, +20 for trying to capture this creature nine times before, +10 for having two companions) 25-100 Rolled: 11 WHYYYYY?! Outcome: Failure Words: 823
Sam scowled as he looked out over the cliff. He was really starting to dislike this whole idea. He was tired of being evaded, poisoned, screeched at, attacked, ganged-up on, and overall assaulted. Mentally and physically. He was beginning to wonder if Dactyls could be tamed at all. It would be extremely unfortunate if he brought one home and tried to help Crowell tame it, only to have the creature poison his little Keindred friend. It might not hurt Sam too terribly much, but Crowell.... Sam sighed as he gazed out, dropping into a heap in the cliff, resting his head on his forearms.
((Even though it's a loss, I hope we can still make a cute little RP out of it. >w<))

Grrel had gone visiting her clan and gotten dragged into Toki's weird plot to tame an animal. At least it's better than magic lessons, she thought to herself, he's gotten picker and grouchier about mistakes...
Toki had heard of a creature like a Lirkrept on Ayr, and thought to go try capturing one of those since he hadn't the best of luck with Lirkrepts. Once Grrel had come by to visit, he grabbed her and bullied her into taking him to Ayr. He'd have gone by himself, but the chief had put his foot down and told Toki that he must take along a guide at the very least. He could go off wandering the world after he'd found and trained a good apprentice.. till then he must have a guide with him. Grumbling, Toki agreed. He knew that as Shaman he had to follow the rules if he was ever going to convince the Keinlings and Keindreds to do so too.
So Toki and Grrel flew to Ayr, and as they were flying Grrel spotted a familiar figure, Sameal. "Lets go ask Sameal to help us Toki, because I only eat Dactlys and know nothing on how to care for them." She called out to Toki as she swooped down towards the fellow Drakein. Toki followed, curious to meet the Drakein Grrel had gone through the Cave with.

Despite his frustration and agitation, a loud rustle of wings pulled Sam from his moping and glaring. At first, he went on high alert, hopping to his feet quickly. He might've been hunting Dactyls, but he didn't doubt there were bigger, scarier things on these cliffs that wouldn't think twice about hunting him. Even in his tired and depressed state, he'd still put upa good fight, gosh darn it! Alas, as his gaze followed the sound, he spotted a familiar orange blur. "Grrel." He sighed in relief, relaxing slightly and stepping forward to greet her. The Drakein tipped his head at the stranger. He gazed curiously at her companion but said nothing about it. After all, he figured he'd get an introduction soon enough. Maybe, considering Sam had to prove he could take on a dragon before he'd even gotten Grrel's name in the cave. He chuckled at the thought and shook his head. Instead, he pulled his attention back to someone familiar, feeling a bit better now that he knew he wasn't alone out here, if only for a minute or two. "What brings you from Eowyn, Grrel?" He asked curiously, the tip of his tail flicking.

Grrel's tail flicked in acknowledgment of Sameal's greeting. "Hello Sameal. I'm here because my clan's Shaman, Toki," She waved a wing at her companion in introduction, "has a hair-brained scheme to tame animals... I've been roped into helping him." She sighed, she almost wished she could just stay at the clan's valley and watch the Keinlings instead! At least she could take naps in the sun... here it was just too blasted misty and damp for her taste.
Toki chuckled. Grrel's dismay at being dragged out to be a guide on Ayr was quite palatable. He certainly didn't need a guide, it was the Chief's orders...The old blind Drakein stepped forward and sniffed the air about the newcomer. A young Gaili by he thought, probably not too much younger than Grrel. "Nice to meet you, young one." He rumbled with a grin. "I'm trying my hand at taming Lirkrepts, but they just don't have the will to survive after I catch them. So when I heard of a creature called a Dactyl on Ayr, I thought I'd try for one of those instead."

Samael inclined his head politely to the older Drakein. He grinned wryly at Grrel's introduction. Hair-brained, was it? Well, he couldn't deny that his endeavors were beginning to feel that way, but he would certainly never admit it out loud! Especially since these two were here for the same reason now! His gaze lit up when Toki mentioned Dactyls. "I've been trying to capture one for ages!" Sam exclaimed in excitement. Maybe his task would be more fruitful if he had a little help. After the cave, Sam liked to think he had a pretty good idea of what Grrel was capable of, even if she wasn't particularly interested in the task at hand, and Toki... Well, he couldn't be all bad if he was interested in Dactyls. But since he'd been after Lirkrepts, did these two know anything about capturing Dactyls? There was no denying that despite all his efforts, Sam had never succeeded, but he liked to think he knew the theory behind it. After all, he had managed to snag an egg a few times. Smiling politely, he offered, "Would you like me to tell you a few things I've learned? Or, well, maybe showing would be best."

Toki sat and motioned with his tail for Sameal to continue. "Please do share what you've learned. I'll tell you what I've learned from Lirkrepts.. maybe we'll have better luck together taming one of these blasted creatures." Best to share information and then see what they came up with, he'd hadn't had much luck with randomly trying so maybe if he learned more about the creatures before trying again...
Grrel sighed as Toki took on that tone she knew so well; lecture time. She got up and wandered a short distance away, she had spent way too much time in lessons with Toki as he threw questions and situations at her in an effort to get her to think outside the box and strengthen her mind. Below her ont eh cliffs wall Dactly's flew about their business, a continuous stream on movement. Lirkerpts and Dactlys were no good except to play with and munch on... why would Toki wanted one to keep when they would probably end up someones toy or snack she didn't understand. She perched on the edge of the cliff and watched the flying Dactlys hungrily. Breakfast had been some time ago....
I need 400 more words to match an rp req for Toki and Grrel, you're fine though. So maybe 2 more posts?

Sam walked over to sit before Toki, though it was a challenge for him to keep still. He tried to remain focused and tell about what he learned, about how adult Dactyls couldn't be tamed, and were positively viscous if you tried to hold them in your mouth without eating them, about how they were perfectly capable of attacking in packs, and especially about how they didn't like it when you could roar louder than them... Anyway, despite his best efforts to remain mature, Samael's advice quickly turned into a story. Well, multiple stories for his multiple endeavors. He crept stealthily across the ground, jumped and dived, hissed when he was injured and pranced like any aggressive beast would. After recounting his latest attempt, Sam realized he probably hadn't made much sense. Bashfully, he walked back before the older Drakein and sat down calmly, dipping his head apologetically for his childishness. "Anyway, I haven't had much luck, but I know it can be done! Especially since this little two-legger boy had one!"
((Sounds fine to me!))

Toki chuckled at the young ones antics. He couldn't see him, but he could certainly hear the sounds he made as Sameal restlessly reenacted his trials. Youth was such a nice thing, he hadn't felt like reenacting anything in many decades. He's certainly more fun than Grrel... she tended to be a bit too absorbed in herself to have a playful attitude that this guy seemed to have. "Well, you've certainly tried more than I have. I've caught 2 Lirkrepts, but they just don't have any spunk and refuse to eat.. so I release them. It's good to know that they can be tamed..." He would have continued but then the sounds of angry Dactyls could be heard.
...
Grrel had been amused by Sameal's antics, but she was far more interested in her stomach. Creeping down the cliff, using her strong claws and the single hooked claw on her wing's to grasp the wall, she approached a nest of Dactyls. She then heard a warning cry from above and dated forward, her teeth snapping down upon two of the small Dactyls. Grasping her snack, she set her scales to sparking, deflecting the angry Dactyl parent's attacks. The clan of Dactyls became roused and began to screech and dart at the interloper.
Chuckling to herself, she swallowed her meal and then flew into the thick of the Dactyl cloud, letting loose a discharge of static electricity and scattering them. She didn't use a large blast so she wouldn't kill them. Toki had given her several lectures lately on life and killing. So maybe he had a point and she shouldn't kill the entire clan. But if it attacked her.. what was wrong with defending herself? Of course, I attacked first this time, she thought and smirked as she flew back to Toki and Saemal.
...
Toki sighed as he heard the voices and felt the magic's release. He knew Grrel all too well, the blasted girl had gone to get a snack. She always had had a weak spot for food... "Grrel.... " he growled. "Couldn't you have waited to eat till after we tried to catch one before rousing the entire Dactyl clan?" She landed next to Samel and Toki, chuckling. "Nah, I'm hungry. 'Sides, you were too busy chatting and we can always go find another Dactyl nest to raid." She shrugged innocently, not regretting her snack one bit. She looked over her shoulder at the regrouping cloud of pissed off Dactyls and grinned. "We should probably relocate soon. Unless you want to kill a bunch of Dactyls?" Her tail twitched. Fighting would be fun. She had a few spells she wouldn't mind trying...

Sam blinked, his wings rustling as he turned to watch the Dactyl clan flutter off, shrieking and calling. He sighed dejectedly at the sight. He'd obviously raising (or tried to raid) many different nests by now. He'd really thought this would be the one, especially with the assist he'd been granted. But as he watched Grrel casually fly back to them, he wondered if she'd be much help at all. Samael's wings and neck drooped a bit. "I really don't think I'm up for a big fight." He admitted slowly. His previous attacks had really taken it out of him, so going up against a whole clan sounded less than appealing right now. Fanning his wings, he tried to keep a cheery disposition in the face of his company. "Let's go find another nest. We'll probably have better luck the farther we are away from this scattered crowd."
