It was hard to believe that only a while ago she had been a cooped up bird in a pretty cage, being fed exotic foods and lies of safety. Freedom had a much sweeter taste. Fate had brought her and Requiem together, and she hoped they would stay like that, peacefully living together, in love with life and love itself. She had a family she was welcome to now, or so she heard at least. A loving mother, a few siblings here and there...It was far much luxurious than the lonely life Xi-Feng had lived in the palace. However, freedom had its price. One could stay she was living as a housewife now, cleaning the home she now shared with Requiem, and cooking for her beloved...wife? The idea made her cheeks flush deep red, though every time she did, a tiny content smile joined in. She may not have had much experience cleaning, but after a few days to learn, imitating what she had seen her loyal servants do, it wasn't too hard a task. However, a greater challenge had arrived. The kitchen was a great beast that needed to be slain. It belched fire from burners atop the stove, the warm belly of the beast. It had cold, icy claws that held on to food in the corner, and Xi-Feng was absolutely terrified of it. She had never been allowed to watch her food being prepared. She had absolutely no idea what to do about the room, and she was getting rather sick of begging Requiem, who would come home tired, to either cook or go get takeout. Oh pizza was a wondrous thing, so cheesy and delicious, but in time, the ex-princess felt her robes were no longer...fitting in certain areas. But today no longer. She wasn't going to take this sort of treatment from the kitchen any longer. And so, she tied back her sleeves and hair, and went to work. Later that evening, around the time Requiem would arrive home after a long day's work, she sat very proper on the floor near the front door, fidgeting with her hands, ears folded back. Would it be good enough? Oh she hoped so! She had worked so so hard for it all, and if her darling didn't like it...! The thought made her wince, though it faded as she patiently awaited her return.

As Xi was still in shock over the recent status change, Req was also in shock. It didn't show much, mostly due to the fact Req kept this eternally stoic face that seemed more indifferent than anything, but Req was stupefied.
It had started on a mission. The ninja had been called to be a bodyguard, and the beautiful princess had awaited her. It had been simple. Protect the woman and ensure she got to where she was going, and safely. It was like any other mission. Or most. She hadn't expected to fall in love. She hadn't guessed that one day she'd wake and reach her arm out and feel her beloved on her bed beside her. No. It had just happened. The travel, the promise, and then the "kidnap" where Req stole Xi away from the woman's caged world and brought her home.
And home Xi had stayed.
However, Xi was not used to this life. She was startled by the kitchen mostly, and Req wasn't one to protest to the orders of pizza or unfreezing frozen dinners for her ex-princess. Req didn't eat much anyway, usually training way past dinner time and then collapsing on her bed. Xi gave her a reason to eat, and she didn't really care much about the fact that their food wasn't the healthiest.
Xi seemed to care, though. Req had noticed the woman's impatience when it came to the kitchen. It was.... cute? Oh, how weird it was to call someone cute. But it was! Xi was adorable! Even Req would crack a smile when asked about her wife. She was the cutest thing, and impatient, and lovely.
So, coming home was a blessing. She used to love training and working, but now she would glance at the sky and wish for time to pass faster. It was finally time, and she practically ran home. The door whisked open and she almost was sent flying over Xi, who had taken an unusual spot in front of the door. Perfect. Xi was ready to be scooped up and whisked away, right?
..... Wait. Why was she there in the first place? Was something wrong?
"Xi." Requiem mused quietly, voice low and curious."Are you okay?" Was her wife hurt? Wife. She needed to stop using that! She hadn't even properly proposed and yet it was just natural to claim the other as hers. Still, where the hell was the issue? Had Xi heard someone break in? Was she scared? ...... Requiem would kill whoever scared Xi!
"Tell me what's wrong and I'll make it go away."

Xi flinched when Requiem walked in the door, the slightest bit scared of what kind of reprimanding she'd be in for today. She hadn't exactly meant for it to happen...But there was no way Req would be pleased with what had happened. She tried her best to change it to a innocent frown, and blinked once or twice before shyly smiling. Requiem never failed with making her blush, especially at her gentle concern for her well being, but today she was going to surprise her. Carefully, delicately, she stood up, letting her robes pool at her feet, before she bowed slightly. "I...I made dinner..." She smiled shyly, glancing up at her darling protector. "I...I thought it would be a welcome change from pizza..." She wasn't going to tell her what a state the kitchen was in yet. Nope. That was going to wait.

The flinch angered Requiem. Why did she flinch? What caused her to have this automatic response? Had someone hurt her? Did Requiem need to hurt someone? Still, she didn't show the anger, instead choosing to blink back at the shy smile and allow the corners of her mouth to twitch upwards.
The blush made her smirk slightly, and then the other stood. She viewed her significant other with both worry and approval. She had always liked Xi's clothes, mostly because they were almost as beautiful as Xi themselves. The way they delicately pooled around her feet made Requiem have to wonder the exact science behind making such elaborate and yet finely shaped clothes. No mater what Xi did they always stayed perfect.
And then, Xi spoke. Requiem simply stared at the woman, both confused by the statement: "I...I made dinner..." She did what? In seconds, she reached forward and touched the others hand, examining for cuts and bruises. Then, it hit her. Hard. Her lady had made her dinner for when she'd come home.
The ninja stared at Xi with a new expression, surprise mixed in with a little amusement. So this was what it was like to rush home to your others cooking? It was calming, and made the couple seem more.... like a real couple? Slowly, Requiem removed her shoes and nodded, taking her mates hands once more and allowing a curious smile to show just for Xi. Only Xi could get these smiles and expressions.
"Did you? I cannot wait to try it, Xi."

Oh if only Requiem knew what a mess she'd made of things. It was a good thing the kitchen door could be closed, because it would be hell on earth once she found out what had happened to her kitchen. Well....It would be a test to see just how much her ninja was willing to put up with. As much trouble as her kimonos could be, Xi wouldn't dare trade them for anything else. She loved the feel of the silks, and how they would weigh upon her with layer after layer. Sure, they were heavy, but that also meant that during the winter she wasn't as cold. It also meant she wasn't exactly weak, since it took a good amount of effort to move in them. She could make it look flawless. She didn't flinch as hard this time as Requiem looked over her hands. There was the slightest burn on the side of one of her hands, though it didn't look severe. Xi didn't even flinch when she touched it, looking up shyly through her eyelashes at her lover. This odd look that the other was giving her made her worry. Did she mess up? Did Requiem not want her in the kitchen? Had she already eaten? She kept on worrying until she finally saw that smile. Her heart skipped a beat, as it always did when she managed to get those rare little smiles. It always reminded her of how much she loved her... "I hope you'll like it...It's nothing fancy but..." She flushed, taking her time as she led Requiem to their dining room, having her sit down. "I'll just be a second okay? You relax." She seemed to fuss the slightest bit, worried that she'd try and follow her into the kitchen...No never. She must never see that accursed room again.
