Toki was taking a break from his teachings. The Keinlings were at the age where they needed to be taught but didn't want to sit still long enough. It had been particularity noisy and rambunctious day today, with none of them even pretending to listen. So Toki had finally let loose a bellow that brought all the adults running.
"Take your children back the the nests. If they cannot sit thorough one talk, then they are obviously too childish to be out of the nest" he snarled and stalked out of his teaching cave and flew off into the desert.

Landing a fair distance away, he grumbled to himself about stupid children who refused to listen

Esmeralda had returned to Eowyn for a bit after the whole leader summoning everyone event. She still didn’t know how to feel about it, but Eowyn was hot and humid and the annoyances of hunting down some Kiandri was exactly what she was needed to distract herself from everything that had happened. Her notes on the dragons were nearly complete from her other excursions, she would not be returning at all if she could avoid it, so this was the last time she would be going out to hunt the Kiandri down.

On her search of the Kiandri, Esmeralda spotted a Drakein instead. She paused briefly thinking back to the last time she had met a Drakein, Grrel that is, all those years ago and clearly remembered it being not the greatest experience either. Though, curiosity won out in the end and Esmeralda angled herself towards him, waving at him so he saw her as she got closer. “Hello there!” The Dovaa called out towards him.

Toki lifted his head and scented the air at the voice calling out to him. A Dovaa... female... and of the Peisio clan. The various physical and magical scents he sensed held much information, enough so that he didn't' really feel to much the loss of his eyes anymore. Though it was strange; her magic, while there, seemed.. untrained? A bit wild and not used too often, but she smells.. adult like, at least not a child. Strange, he thought to himself. I wonder why she's not a child and yet isn't trained too much? Oh well, at least that means I can take her in a battle if she proves to be hostile.

He sat up and folded his wings unto his back and called back;
"And a hello back, young dovaa. I take it, since you're talking to me, you mean no harm to me nor my clan?" Better to ask now and get it out of the way. Toki was in no mood to be polite and make small talk. He wouldn't mind fighting someone right now.. but talking with someone intelligent would be nice too.....

Esmeralda frowned as she got closer, harm his clan? The Dovaa examined him, wondering what clan he was from. “No of course not, I would never… Has anyone attacked you before?” She’d heard some of the Drakein had gotten attacked when others were trying to steal their eggs. “I’m a dragon researcher, a civilian. I do not harm anyone or anything, just watch and report really.” Esme shrugged her shoulders. “Like right now, I am looking for some Kiandri dragons. Haven’t been very successful so far… And there’s been so much… Commotion I’ve been sidetracked.” She paused. “What are you doing out here?”

So she was a scholar? Well, that was good. Meant she should be able to hold an intelligent conversation.

"Yes, we've had multiple attacks. Luckily no eggs were stolen and no one died. You are getting a a bit too close to our lair though, so if you don't want to be attacked by overeager hot heads, I suggest you go hunting for dragons elsewhere, we don't let them come close to our nests either so you wont find them near here. you could also stay here and talk with an old Drakein though. I am out here because I've had enough of idiots who can't sit through one lesson and wouldn't mind intelligent conversation." The last bit was more a snarl than anything. Toki knew that Keinlings were just too young, too untrained, and had too much energy, but they certainly got on his nerves after a while! maybe he needed a vacation, somewhere were he could just relax without teaching for a while..

All the Dovaa could do was stare at the Drakein as he spoke, multiple attacks? Why were people so insane? They were going to create another war and this one was going to be a bad one! “I’m sorry to hear that.” She murmured quietly, stopped when she got close enough. “Well by no means do I want to disturb the Drakein, not my intentions at all.” She smiled at his next words. “Intelligent conversations I can provide indeed. I’m Esmeralda, and yourself?” This was going betetr than last time right? Yes.

He smiled, someone to talk to who was intelligent, so nice! The fights seemed to make everyone all blood thirsty and stupid... at least that's what it seemed to Toki in his more uncharitable moments.

"I'm Toki, and I'm the shaman of my tribe. What exactly do you mean to do by ... researching dragons? So don't seem like the fighting type, so are you just observing them to gather information to satisfy your curiosity, or is there a purpose to your research?" Toki asked curiously, his deep voice rumbling. Either way was good, but research for a purpose was often better in his opinion... though he certainly had gone out and explored before with no purpose than to satisfy his own curiosity!

“Nice to meet you Toki.” Esmeralda inclined her head to him and clasped her hands behind her back to rock back on her heels a bit as she spoke. “I observe the dragons, learning their habits and what they eat, how they hunt. That kind of knowledge. I find it fascinating, and the dragons have always caught and held my attention.” She could really not complain at all about what she did.

“I am indeed a civilian, no fighting for me at all.” With the exception of a bit of healing on the side. “I research a bit for my own curiosity, a bit to disprove others, to enlighten others on dragons.” She paused briefly, thinking back on the past. “Many people thought I was crazy, but when they saw how valuable my information was, people started taking me seriously and they use my work for other purposes that I don’t approve of much.” Killing dragons was a coin with two sides for Esmeralda. On one side you had the bad, dragons killed people, but on the other side as a Dovaa she felt a kinship.

“And what does a shaman of the tribe do? What are your duties?”

Shifting himself so that the sun could bake a different part of him, Toki thought a bit on what Esmeralda had said. Studied their habits? Interesting, but definitely easy to use in a bad way.
He chuckled. "Information will always be twisted and used for hurting others by some people. Nothing you can do about it. Even we Drakeins have those who look for ever bit of advantage over others and will use information in cruel and hurtful ways. As for me, I teach the young of our tribe various things. History, magic, how to think.. or at least I try." He sighs, "Some people just don't want to think, they'd rather rely upon impulses and instinct.. which is okay, but will get them killed one day." Toki grumbled. Stupid hot heads! They could save so much time, effort, and avoid pain if they just took a few moments to think things through!

Oh well... he turned his attention back to Esmeralda.
"As for that civilian thing you mentioned, is that why your power is so untrained? After I lost my eyes I found I could better sense magic and the way it flows.. and yours is messy." He said disapprovingly. The shaman in him objected to seeing such potential wasted! If she was as smart as she seemed, she should try to at least try to train her magic! There were spells that could help her after all, ones that didn't involve hurting or killing others...

“I suppose you’re right.” Of course he was right, Esmeralda was far too aware of the gossip around her research. Oh well. She loved what she did and she would never revert to becoming a healer, not unless her life depended on it. His comments about the young made her laugh out loud, a good hearty laugh because she agreed with him on this too. “Oh yes, impulses are what people rely on now a days. I’m surprised there was even a truce made between the races.” Surprised indeed, but very happy with the outcome. She would be free to be with Ekundayo and not have to hide.

Esmeralda reddened deeply. Oh lord, that’s what Eirisi had also said when he’d tried to train her. Great potential, little control. “Yes, that is why yes. I’ve not much need for my powers.” She laughed nervously. “You must be a good teacher.” She didn't know how else to steer the conversation away from her magic.

Toki was pleased. Intelligent conversation always made him feel better, that and when he had a bright student in front of him... especially when said student was doing their best. Much fun could be had! . His tail twitched and he grinned as he raised and eyebrow. "Trying to change the topic?" He drawled in his deep rumbling voice. Standing up he began to circle Esmeralda, his tail twitching with amusement.
"Hmm, I think I'll pester you about tit some more! Such a bright mind and potential should not go to waste! I'm surprised you haven't tried to control it... it could be helpful to you in your research! Water is such a fluid and versatile power."

Esmeralda gave another nervous chuckle; this one wasn’t easily fooled like everyone else. While the intelligence of the old Drakein made her nervous, her eye was also sharp and watching him carefully. Clasping her hands behind her back, the Dovaa rocked back and forth on her heels and hummed lightly. “Water if very fluid, always changing with its surroundings, harvested it can be very destructive.” Eirisi had taught her that much, he’d wanted to harness that thundering power. “My last teacher wanted to teach me to be destructive, harness my powers for bad.” And then Eirisi had pushed her to be even more towards complacency a few months ago.

Toki sighed and shook his head. So she'd been pushed to use it to hurt others. No wonder she wanted to ignore that power!
"He patted her head with his claw gently before sitting back down. "Magic is like a large violent creature. It can be used to destroy things, but once tamed and trained, it can be used to help and protect instead of destroy." Settling himself back onto his nice warm rock he smiled at her. "Water is very much a healing magic. It heals the earth and it can heal people as well. Maybe not as much as a Ysali, but it is still very powerful. Perhaps you should find some of the healers that live here in the desert. They are hybrids and very well hidden, but I and my clan have caught their scents a few times... They do not use their power to attack, only to heal and defend and to find water of course! It would be such a pity if you didn't learn to control your magic, then you may fid yourself in a situation where you need it... Situations like that always happen..."

Esmeralda felt like she was learning from Erisi all over again when the Drakein patted her head gently, she almost laughed out loud but smiled instead. “Maybe one day…” She said, settling herself on the ground in front of him. “For now, the war is over and I don’t believe I’ll ever have to use my powers again. Not for a little while anyway.” Her mind returned to the single one time she’d used her powers to heal Ekundayo, she had almost passed out from the sheer amount of focus she’d needed to keep her magic in check. “Plus, I’m a civilian. I let actual healers deal with the injured!”

Toki growled at her continued insistence she didn't need to tame her magic. Reaching out with his tail, he swatted her on the back of her head like he would a naughty Kindred.
"Idiot! You have a gift that others do not! What happens if one day you have a child and there is no healer around to heal it when it gets hurt? Or you end up lost in the desert and do not know how to reach out with your water magic to find sources of water?" He got up and paced about in agitation, what was it with kids these days?

Hmm, maybe if he tried to guilt or shame her she'd go and get a bit more training at least. Such a waste!
"Well," he said with a sigh as he sat down and wrapped his tail abut his feet. "If you are going to act like a little kid and are too lazy to learn, not much I can do." He said in a long-suffering tone.
