ive been looking into religions lately and i was wondering what ya'll thought of this.
In some video games you can take a second profession, well in real life is it okay to have a second religion, mormonism will always be first for me, but is it okay to be both mormon and (insert religion here)? i would never pick one that goes against mormonism but still do ya'll think that would be okay? im even starting to get my life in order so that i can use my priesthood to do the things that other metaphysical studying and practicing people can do, but with the authority and approval of god.

Well, which one are you thinking of? Some things work, like Freemasonry, which technically isn't a religion...
Which one though?

God has said this is the only true church. You using your priesthood for anything else automatically makes you unworthy to use it, so it's probably not going to work out for you. You're completely free to practise principals and espouse doctrines from anything you feel like, but you had better have a little more respect for the power you claim to hold.

I don't know but (going back to the video game anallogy) if you had two professions in real life that would cause conflict too so you wouldn't take that on without praying first. So I sugesst praying about your decission only then will you really know what's the right thing to do. Hope that helped.

I wouldn't have a second one. One's confusing enough as is! If I had to organive myself for two faiths, I'd be going even more nuts than I am! So I think it's just easier practiciny one faith. Life's complicated already. I don't want it to get worse. xp

I agree with most everyone about this. Why would you need 2 religions? That is just kind of crazy if you ask me, besides, since our church is the only true church, why go to one that is not entirely true?

The_Opera_Ghost im even starting to get my life in order so that i can use my priesthood to do the things that other metaphysical studying and practicing people can do, but with the authority and approval of god. wouldn't that be abusing the power of the priesthood? using it for other purposes but then saying it's ok because you have God on your side? That just doesn't seem right to me. The priesthood is the power of God given to man. It is to be used sacredly; not for personal gain or pleasure.

I don't want to sound mean, but i AM going to be blunt.
why on earth would you want two religions? frankly, i find one more than i can handle...besides,God made the ONE true church.
what benefits can you get from having a secondary religion? why can't you get them from our church?

Which one though? i plan on being a mason when i turn 21 and i was thinking about taking up hermeticism, but i was going to leave out things, if it is possible, that are related to astrology, the bible condemns astrology, so yeah. i know hermeticism isnt a religion but i am simply using that for lack of a better word.

ok, here are two books you need to read, Opera Ghost:
The Road Less Traveled and The purpose Driven Life
both are by M. Scott Peck
you don't need a second set of beliefs to grow spritually. I would know. This is exactly what i am doing right now, minus the second set of beliefs, because they are unneccessary. they are a means to an end. i think a non-"ism" way would be more honorable in the eyes of God. sure, you're just trying to better yourself, but you don't need all the other baggage attached to extraneous belief systems.

You want to better yourself mentally? Go for it, but I don't think you need to join other religions to do that. If the two don't mix together, then don't try to mix them.
