Something had instilled in her a need to move. For the first few days Stormy had assumed it was just one of her occasional highs, manic states to counteract her just as occasional bouts of low moods, but there was something different about it: she could sleep, for one, which was not like her manic states at all, where she'd spend most of the night reading or writing or just sitting up and looking at something and thinking up the most grandiose of ideas. No, she still thought and wrote and read, but not because she was compelled to . . . Rather, because she wanted to.

Ahhhh, she'd almost forgotten what this giddiness was like. Hormones could give you such a rush!

And right now she knew was around the time Thane wanted her to train. Considering she felt like gushing to her Mist sister and mentor some more, and because she hadn't heard from Nevada all day (or Candace for much longer for that matter), Stormy decided she would expend some energy and be social again--and while she wanted to cling to her boyfriend, she didn't want to get too much into his space at once, as much as Gale protested the very idea being possible. Plus, now she and Nevada were intermediates! They had to go impress their senior!

So she snapped up her phone, sent Nevada a quick text asking where she was at, and then fired off a message to Candace.

Text to Candace
Hey, it's been a while! Are you busy?

Candace was still with Nevada. The girl had not yet woken up from when she had picked her up and brought her home. Her arm was broken, but thankfully the doctor on call had taken care of that, and her eyes was in incredibly bad shape. But she could keep it, they didn't have to remove it. Seeing Nevada on the bed this way worried her, upset her, infuriated her. She was angry. So angry. Angry at whoever had done this and angry at Nevada for allowing things to carry this far, for not using her pendant to return home before she needed to call for help with the last of her conscious energy. She was relieved that Nevada would be relatively okay, that she wasn't going to die, but she was worried...there were students who were really going at it with them. Robert, Otto, Nevada..

The Mists were her responsibility. She was going to have to see to it none of them ever went to the Haunted House alone. No exceptions. She would send them a text about it tonight. For now she was keeping Nevada company, seated comfortably in a chair beside her best and reading a book out loud for her. "'So you think you're changed, do you?' 'I'm afraid I am, sir,' said Alice; I can't remember things as I used--and I don't keep the same size for ten minutes together!' 'Cant remember what things?' said the Caterpillar. 'Well, I've tried to say how doth the little busy bee, but it all came out different!' Alice replied in a very melancholy--" Candace's phone cut her off.

Marking her page, Candace picked up her phone and read the text. She smiled.

Text to: Stormy
Text from: Candace

It has, I apologize. I have gotten every one of your texts, however...

There was a pause before Stormy would receive another text.

Text to Stormy
Every. Text.

Yes, Stormy. While she may not have replied to them because she was just so shocked by them, she did receive them.

Was she busy..? Candace frowned and looked to Nevada again.

Text to Stormy
Yes and no. I am keeping Nevada company in the infirmary if you would like to stop by.

E-Every one, huh? Considering how stupid she felt when she woke up later and reread them, she was surprised Candace hadn't come over sooner to ask what was going on. Stormy was just typing out her apology for misleading her like that when she received that last text and paused.

Infirmary? Did Nevada have an accident? Oh dear...

Text to Candace
On my way over

She could talk to them both about making plans as well as apologize! There we go.

Stormy arrived about six minutes later, a red panda plush under her arm. It took her a little bit to find her fellow Mists, but she was already chirping out, "Sorry, Michelangelo was hiding--"

The rest of sentence caught in her throat when she saw Nevada. Mouth closing, she approached at a slower pace as if afraid to disturb her, gaze flicking between her roomie and Candace as well as her book, unsure of what to say. Had she disturbed them?

After receiving Stormy's text Candace sighed and turned to Nevada, reaching out to brush the girl's bangs back away from her forehead. She leaned in to press her lips to Nevada's temple. "Take care of her, Leroy. Make her wake up," she whispered into the girl's ear, resting her forehead against Nevada's temple.

When Stormy arrived she set the book aside and stood straight. "Hello, sweetheart..ah..I just picked her up from the Haunted House..." Candace explained with a frown. She sat down on the edge of Nevada's bed and gestured for the chair. "They said her arm is broken and her eye has taken serious damage, otherwise everything else is just cuts and scratches. She'll be okay.." She was lucky. "Was there something you needed, dear?"

Candace had offered to sit, but Stormy felt a distinct need to stand in that moment, to keep herself straight and above the ground as much as possible as if going lower would invite it to swallow her whole. Stormy was forcibly reminded of her last few encounters in the Haunted House, how easily she had been possessed and mangled, how quickly two Halloweeners had overpowered and toyed with her, the scars they left behind...No-one had gone to her then because she had been a nobody at Deus. The memory was almost claustrophobic.

Everything was not okay because if it was then Nevada would have told her to not worry by now.

"I...I didn't know it was that bad." Her voice was quiet. "I was going to ask if you'd mind doing some more training now that Nevada and I are intermediates, but..."

She was staring at her best friend and sister, helpless.

"Has--Is she just resting...?"

"You're intermediates now?" Candace's face lit up with pride, she held her arms out for a hug. "That's wonderful! Congratulations, Stormy! How was your mission? What did you do? I'm always happy to give you more training. Is there anything you'd like me to specifically focus on for you, Stormy? I want all of you to be able to end up being self-sustainable, so anything you need, I'll get you there."

Her frown returned when Stormy asked about Nevada, looking down at the girl. "Yes, just resting. She was unconscious when I found her and hasn't woken up yet..but she'll be fine. She has Leroy.."

She put a hand on Nevada's and gave it a gentle pat. She'd be okay. A little banged up, but okay. "Stormy, I need you to promise me something..don't you ever go into the Haunted House alone, okay? I don't care who goes with you, I don't want to see anymore Mists end up like this because of that place. Will you spread that around, too?"

Candace's voice suddenly sounded just a bit too loud and Stormy winced. Celebrating felt wrong and out of place, like laughing at a funeral . . . She didn't take up the offer of the hug, instead grasping Michelangelo closer. "It went okay," she answered simply, distractedly.

Unconscious when she found her? So whatever it was at least didn't have the nerve to kill her . . . But that meant Nevada had gone out alone. Why? She hadn't mentioned anything . . . and it stung to think this could have been prevented if someone had tagged along, that Nevada could have just asked.

"I'll spread the word," Stormy said softly, trying to negotiate her feelings on the matter and failing. It was just a mess as it usually was, a big ball of stuff she couldn't navigate or put a name to that sat heavy in her chest. But one thing did remain clear: she needed to train more if there were things out there that could do that much damage.

"Um . . . Remember we mentioned runic daggers before? I want to give that a try." Her gaze moved from Nevada to her monitor, from the monitor to Candace. "Just in case we can't use weapons, those'll work, right? And even if the runic part doesn't, they're still daggers."

"Sure, that's not a problem, sweetheart." Candace nodded her head. Daggers would work fine. "Considering your weapon they'd also be very good for small, enclosed spaces. Plus, they provide a nice barrier. Did you want to practice using them on me with some tips and pointers, then?"

She wanted to distract Stormy away from Nevada if only for a little while. It wasn't that she didn't want anyone to be concerned for her, she just didn't want Stormy dwelling on it too hard and possibly doing something dangerous.

Look forward, not back. "Stormy," Candace said gently, pulling Stormy into the hug she had rejected anyway. "She'll be okay. Nothing is life threatening, her arm is already healing, she's here, she's safe." And when Nevada woke up they were going to have words. She was going to find out who or what did this to her.

And the she was going to destroy them in the most painful way possible.
