Tukutu slowly made his way towards where Mafa made her home. He had run into one hyena, but he didn't seem to interested in joining. Great. So now Tukutu came back as a failure, which would definately not go well with Mafa. What was he going to do?

Well, he wanted to go out on a trek. A long enough trek that he wanted to make sure it'd be okay with Mafa. He just didn't want her to worry....not like she's really SHOW that worry, but perhaps she might, deep down....hah! What a joke! He just didn't want to get in trouble with their little leader.

He creeped his way towards Mafa's normal Elephant skull, and tapped the side of his tail on the skull, announcing that he was here. He contemplated going inside, but eh...didn't want to piss of Mafa before he even told her of his failures. He waited outside, swaying a bit as he waited. He hated waiting.

Mafa had been in her 'den', not sleeping, as Tukutu usually did, but contemplating. As the leader of the pack, she had a lot of things to think about, many of them she wasn't very fond of. With a gruff sigh, the female stood, and almost as if on command, she heard a tap outside. Seemingly, her consort had returned. Mafa rolled her eyes and padded outside to meet the scruffy male, her cold eyes trained on him. She looked around expectantly, looking to see if he had brought any one back,

"Well?"

Her voice held an excpeting tone and a critical one as well. Mafa had succeeded in finding a hyena and bringing it back. It was a weird one, with a pink mane and a weird way of thinking, but a hyena none the less. She'd wait to see what Tukutu had done before she rattled off her accomplishment to him.

Tukutu looked up at her, in her eyes....then shifted his head over to the side, shyly.
"I uh...found 'un but..."
He shifted his weight around, shifted...sighed...blinked a bit.
"But he kinda runned off, saying he'd think 'boot it."
Tukutu gave off a soft snarl as he thought about it. THe guy wasn't that great, he probably wouldn't of done any good for their pack.
"Sos, no 'un in the Priderlands. But...ah was thinkin' that pr'aps I can go on a trek a sorts, ta find more hyena's that're further off?"
He was nervous at what her reply would be, since he was already a failure in bringing anyone back this first time...

Mafa's eyes narrowed instantly; her cold glare panning over Tukutu intensely. But? But he had brought back nothing. Well, it was his own damn fault. Her head rose up in pride at his words though; Mafa was always in a mood to show Tukutu up. He was the only one she had to prove her abilities to, the others could think what they wanted, she'd just tear them up for it.

"I brought back a nice male, K'aah I believe. He'll do the place some good I hope, we need new blood"

There was a hint of a smirk in her icy eyes that didn't show up often... And that didn't remain long. Her head tilted at his request of sorts. She wasn't going to keep him here by force, he had his privilages, but she didn't want him leaving. Despite her dislike for the male, she enjoyed his company, seeing him the only one fit to hear what she had on her mind.

"As you want Tukutu, I'm not going to stop you. Just don't be long... You're needed here as well"

Tukutu's ears flicked forward, towards Mafa...then back. Forward, then back. Well....that was something unexpected. He was needed here? What possessed her to say that? He certainly didn't know how to take it....he sure did want to rub those words in Mafa's face, ask why...but he normally was very subdued around Mafa, and he certainly wasn't feeling very brave yet.

"Ah, thank ya Mafa."

He milled over her words....ask...don't ask....ask...well, what the hell. He was going to be gone for perhaps half a moon, so even if he did piss her off, she might cool over by the time he returned.

"But ah...whad'ya mean 'bout me bein' needed here? If ah may ask so."

Mafa nodded curtly at his thanks, it was nice to be appriciated, even if for a second. No one seemed to appriciate what she did for this damn pack, not that she had too much of a damn pack to do things for. But she kept the graveyard relatively clean of filthy lions, and she did a good job. She sighed, shaking her head at his question. She wasn't going to submit and show her weakness, her weakness of feeling alone. Instead, she looked to him with a shrug,

"I'm not sure Tukutu, I'm not exactly going to run this place /all/ alone, you fit in in the scheme of things somehow"

With that, she pressed her ears back and turned from Tuk, walking away a little bit before stopping and staring off at the drab scenery that was the graveyard,

"I don't know what direction this pack is going in... And I hate it, some thing more must be done"

Tukutu blinked as Mafa said that she couldn't take care of everything on her own. Wow! He knew how hard it was for her to really admit things, especially like that...so he was just flat stunned. He stared at her for a moment as she stepped off, trying to shake it off. Hah, so he was desired, if only a little!

Tukutu gave off a sly little grin, only for a moment. Thankfully, Mafa's back was to him, so she couldn't see it. He had a couple ideas fly through his little mind, and decided to try and spell out what he would feel if he wasn't so "high up".

"Well, Mafa, maybe dey think that yew 'n me, 's being tha higher ups, ah guess, think that we dun got 'nuff...strength ta boss 'em around? Maybe strength isn't the right word...but maybe they dun see an 'surance that tha packs' gunna stay 'round? Who knows what might happen wif dem damn lions out there."

Mafa's thin, wirey tail whipped around in her contemplation. Tukutu's words had made her angry, but yet, she didn't feel like lashing back at the male as was customary with her. Her temper got nothing accomplished, it was one of the facts that came to her during her time of thought. Of course she wouldn't act any differently to the lower ranking hyenas of the pack, but perhaps Tukutu needed to be talked to with less rancor. He wasn't all that smart after all. But perhaps that was simply her justification of it all? She didn't know.

"What do we not have that the lions do? We need to figure it out, and solve it, solve it fast before I go crazy"

Tukutu wasn't terribly smart, but he was very observant. And while he hadn't seen these new cubs that the filty lions had, nor this mutant blue lion that Mafa saw....it stuck with him. But it seemed like it didn't stick with Mafa. He didn't want to outwardly say it...but maybe he could hint it to her? Ick, that might be harder then it sounded like, Tuk was shitty at hint.

"Well... dey have s'more numbers then us, even if dey're kinda small....'n remember what that...mutant lion thing said ta ya?"

Okay, so maybe that was more then a hint; he tried.

Mafa blinked at Tukutu's words. It took a while for them to register in her brain. Dammit. Damn everything to hell. To catch up with the filthy lions, she'd have to beget an....

"Heir..."

Damn that mutant lion too. This was getting all too complicated for Mafa's liking. She liked things simple. She saw a lion. She attacked a lion. Not catching up in a race of who could have a better pack or pride with a lion. But there was no other choice, she had to do what the lion did, and do it damn better than it did.

"How the hell am I supposed to do that?"

Mafa whipped around, looking at Tukutu with narrowed eyes. Of course, the answer to all her problems lay before her, though it was one of the last things she had ever wanted to admit.

Tukutu...just had to laugh at that. it was laying infront of her all this time, and she just seemed to notice? Aaaah, he loved it. He stifled his laughter before it really got anywhere though, so all that came out were a few choked laughs.

Tukutu, trying his damnest to not look too smug, cleared his throat a bit and looked around. Maybe if he did his best to look innocent...Mafa might come around....he brushed down his fluff of fur on top of his head, and went back to looking around...just...not looking directly at Mafa. She could either ruin it, or make it right now. He just hoped that she wouldn't kill him afterwards...no blackwidow complex, no thanks!

(*bricked for pun* XD!)

Mafa's eyes widened for a moment and then quickly reduced to a glare at Tukutu's laugh. Her lips rose, a yellow snarl coming through as she approached him, stopping a few inches from the male's face.

"And for that godammit, you're going to help"

So it wasn't the nicest, or the most formal way to break it to Tukutu that he was officially chosen to be the father to these alleged heirs, but it was the only way she could get it out. She couldn't find nice words to put it in. Perhaps she could've asked him, but being polite was beyond her standards. Of course he didn't seem to hesistant, but Mafa chose to ignore the fact. She then looked away from the male quickly, turning her back to him,

"Right..."

Tukutu couldn't help it. He really couldn't. It was just...the biggest temptation that he had ever had in his entire LIFE. And he was going to exploit it, damnit. He felt like he deserved it.

He slinked over towards the side of Mafa, and inched his face near her's....and whispered.
"Shy, Mafa?"

He rolled onto his back, just laughing as crazily as any hyena would. He hadn't laughed this well in ages, and it felt so good! Of course, he was nervous himself, but hot damn, this was something still somewhat upexpected, and very...satisfying? Maybe, but he determined that enjoying this little triumph was well deserved. He'd dealt with her s**t before, and now, in his eyes, they were at least a little closer to being equals.

Mafa's eyes narrowed even more as Tuk inched up to her and as soon as he spoke, Mafa lashed out, her sharp teeth snapping in the direction of his face. She would've taken off that damn mutt's ear had he not rolled onto his back. She was rather fuming now, his laughter egging her on. What was he so happy about? She didn't see this as a laughing manner. She whipped around, taking her cold eyes from the male, not being able to look at him without getting angry any longer. Her weakness had finally shown, she actually needed Tukutu, the one hyena she had been trying to rather emotionally distance herself from since her puphood. With a sharp sigh, Mafa pinned her ears back,

"Pompous a**"

Her voice was a hiss, but it was more of a retaliation to his laughter than an insult. But then again, she didn't really know how to talk to him, or anyone for that matter, without insulting them. She'd have to wean herself from that, at least around him, they would have to be closer to being equals indeed.

With his laugh dying down, Tukutu looked up at her, still on his back. His expression was dull as he studied her posture and body language. He gave an inward smirk as to how she seemingly felt. So, she still had a bit of that old her inside her, that was comforting. If mildly, since she probably wouldn't bring that out too much.

"Well, 'least then those lions won't be one up, eh?" He blinked at her, with a mild grin. He was right.
