There was indeed some benefits to being an intermediate, first was the pay raise, when he saw the extra money trickle into his account he knew he could afford to waste a bit of cash. The first step was the mini fridge. No more vending machiens eating away at his funds, he could buy bulk on a break off island or have it ordered in through... other means. (Also expensive but good when you didn't want to waste a vacation day for another box of mountain dew and typically involved bribing other hunters who where leaving for the day.)

The fridge hummed happily in the corner of his room, chilling soda, cooling candy bars, and generally was a happy addition to his small dorm. As such he was strolling across the islands grounds heading to the labs with a rather larger Hershey bar that he decided to pick up on a whim. It was only a dollar, and it was the jumbo kind. The kind you shared, or had to eat in parts because it was just too much delicious to handle.

It was also a clear beacon to any candy lover near by because it was hard to miss something like that on the island which they never seemed to have in stock anywhere.

A shower would be super awesome right now. Heidi sighed and wiped her face with her scarf, her coat's sleeves tied around her waist and her jeans rolled up to her knees. She had been on her way back to the dorms when she'd suddenly felt like going for a jog.

She really should have gone back and changed before doing that.

Hindsight. It was a thing.

Heidi was on her way back to the dorms for cold shower when she spotted someone not too far off. Oh! She recognized that guy! What was his name again..?

Uh...

...She never got his name. Not ever.

But the important thing was what was in his hands. Chocolate.

"Hey!" Heidi called out with a friendly grin, jogging over to the..oh! Neat! A Mist!

Roland was lost in his own world of candy delights. Somewhere Sylvia was even sighing in delight at memories of her own treats that when brought up sounded far less appealing to Ro so he ignored them and focused even more on the candy he held in his hand.

So absorbed in the delight of chocolate goodness he didn't notice Heidi in the distance, or that she had detoured from her intended path to come closer. It wasn't till she said hey that he truly noticed her giving a slight jump.

"H-hey!" He paused mid step finishing the most recent bite flicking a few crumbs off his scarf and collar.

He blinked trying to place Heidi, there was Nevada, then Tuck, and this girl showed up....

.... oh crap.

He made a quick scan of the are to be sure Tuck wasn't around before looking at Heidi again.

He jumped and time slowed down. Don't drop the chocolate oh god please don't drop it. Heidi visibly relaxed when the bar ended up safe. Thank god. She might have cried if he'd dropped it on the ground.

"Hi!" Heidi laughed. She paused and watched him as the boy looked all around. What? She didn't see anyone. A Death hunter wandered by but his attention was on a folder he had open in his arms and a bunch of papers he was flipping through. It couldn't be that..

She turned back to Ro, her brow furrowed with concern. "Everything okay? I just uh..saw you had this huge chocolate bar and well..." She may have wanted some. Just a little bit.

A lot.

"I'm Heidi, by the way! I've seen you around, I just don't think we've ever met."

Blessed be Roland did not drop his prized candy, this was good for him, and also for Heidi. Maybe. She had yet to earn the delicious piece of candy from him yet.

"Hi. Um," he finally seemed to settle down, though the death hunter was not at all what he was looking for, too short, too slim, and not well, Tuck. He was worried Tuck would be in the bushes, on a jog, that he would arrive at any minute and take something the wrong way.

"Huh my candy? Well I mean... I was hungry, I was going to train later and work it off." Why was he making excuse? This wasn't Rin nagging him about eating veggies, or Candace being a Mist Bro. "Yeah yeah I'm fine I just uhhh thought I saw someone?" Yeah thought he saw someone. That was a good excuse for his actions right?

"Roland, I've seen you around before I think. You where at the thing with Mimsy and all the cakes?"

Weird. Why was he defending himself over a bar of chocolate? She wasn't judging, dude. Heidi chuckled, putting her hands on her hips and watching Roland with an amused grin. He was acting so weird. What was--

Oh.

Heidi blinked. This was Roland..well...Tuck had said they were cool, hadn't he? They'd worked things out. And it wasn't like Tuck had anything to worry about, she wasn't stupid. And Roland wasn't stupid either, right? Why was he so nervous? "Yeah! I was! Robert stole one of my cookies though, jerk." She huffed and blew a bit of hair out of her face, combing her fingers through her hair to push it back. Her braid had fallen apart during her jog, she'd have to fix it later.

"S'nice to meetcha, Roland. You're a friend of Tuck's, right? He's mentioned you a couple times," Heidi said with a smile. See? She was smiling. It was okay. Nothing to worry about, Roland! "I can train with you, if you want! I just finished with a jog but I'm still good to go, I think."

And thus the pieces fell together, Heidi knew of Roland, but Roland didn't know what Tuck had said about him to the girl. His bet was nothing but a review of his treatment of Nevada, and how he nearly got them both sliced up thanks to his weapon breaking the no shield breaking deal.

Generally he felt pretty terrible right now, so he took another sad bite of chocolate to feel better. "Well's not nice to steal someones desert..." he said as he finished another bite of the chocolate bar.

"I erm... more like acquaintance."

Or more like bitter enemies.

"I well, I don't know I guess, I wasn't really sure when I planned to train. Did you want to like... right now?"

Had Roland asked Heidi what Tuck had told her she would have been honest, she would have told him what she knew of Tuck's history with Roland, but for now her attention was on the chocolate bar. Come on, dude. That thing is huge. Share.

"Well it's either keep training or go back to the dorms for a shower, and then maybe figure out what to do for dinner." She shrugged. "Whenever, really." Heidi's brow furrowed as she watched him.

He was like...super nervous.

"You sure you're okay? You seem kind of on edge.."

Roland was trying to calm down but he just felt guilty and paranoid, he took a few more nibbles of the chocolate bar frowning a bit before moving towards the training grounds where a series of dummies where set up.

"Well there is something I wanted to work on... but no sparing okay? I've had some really... big accidents lately from it." As they walked his shoulders slumped a bit, "I'm just... I know Tuck isn't all that terribly fond of me? We've had a few... arguments, and some stupid things happened and I just." He shrugged. "I don't think he's very fond of me and that he would like you hanging around me?"

There. He said it. He felt a little less guilty, or paranoid, or whatever this mess of feelings he had around the little sun.

Whaaat? No sparring? Lame! Heidi did give Ro a strange look when he said Tuck wasn't fond of him. "Thaaaat's not what Tuck told me...he said you two were cool now?" Tuck wouldn't lie to her, they had a very strict policy if complete honesty. He had no reason to lie to her.

"Er..he's my boyfriend and all but he doesn't, like, dictate who I can and can't hang out with. That wouldn't be cool of him.." Tuck trusted her, and she trusted him. "Like I said, Tuck told me you two worked things out. You've got nothing to worry about, dude. Seriously." Had that really been why he was acting so weird? He thought she was like..a trap? Geeze. Give someone a little more credit, dude.

Roland kind of shrugged, "He still seemed a little miffed when he left. I haven't seen him since. Kinda just been avoiding that really." Roland only shrugged a bit, "I uhh kinda figured after seeing you guys at the baking thing. I'm guessing Nevada didn't have it easy there either."

He should check in on her sometime actually, it wasn't right to simply let her stew in her problems when things where likely getting worse for her and better for the others. "I don't think he would be the controlling type. Just... capable of sternling disapproving?" The approached the dummies and Roland frowned. He had a lot of chocolate bar left... and it would melt in his nice new coats pockets if he put it in one.

Frowning he stared at the bar for a moment before snapping it in half silently offering Heidi the one thing she had wanted most.

"You mean at the cake thing? That wasn't you. It really wasn't you. But he did tell me what happened between the three of you..." Heidi shrugged. "I think he's learned his lesson...I..I do feel bad, about Nevada, I mean.." Heidi rubbed the back of her neck and cleared her throat, pouting her lips while she thought back on what Tuck had told her. She did feel bad, but at the same time she was just so glad to have Tuck to herself.

Is that cruel of me?

It is only cruel if thou 'rubs it in her face'. Heidi blinked. Huh..that actually made sense.

"Why? S'not like he's got anything to worry about." What was there to disapprove of? Seriously? It would only be disapproving if Roland tried something with her, and Heidi would like to think he wasn't that stupid. Was he thinking about it? Was that why he was so cautious? "Would you be treating me differently if I wasn't dating Tuck?" Heidi asked with a raised brow. Was that really it? Her association with him? Not cool, bro.

And then he offered her chocolate.

Heidi squealed and eagerly took what was given to her, taking small bites of it so as to make it last. "Mmmmmmm~! Thank you so much!" Finally got what she wanted heck yeah.

Roland munched his candy in silence as she spoke about the whole incident between the three of them. His gaze seemed a bit distant, looking towards the training dummies but not at them so much as in-between them or just above them. "I feel bad too. She's lost... a lot, because of all that. Tuck got you, and I." He paused, he hadn't gained anything either, he simply shrugged.

Turning back To Heidi he shrugged again, "No I mean, yes, I wouldn't be so weary I think? I don't have anything against you Heidi, you seem nice, I just... it's a small Island and having someone dislike you or take something you do the wrong way can lead to a lot of issues." He reached up tugging his coat open and shifting his shirt collar to reveal the scar Rep left him with.

"I just don't want to make some of the same mistakes twice."

Still he couldn't help but smile just a little bit at how she reacted to the chocolate. It seemed Heidi had her own motivation for stopping by to say hi. "Finish it up, you can't train and eat chocolate at the same time."
PostPosted: Tue Jul 09, 2013 3:33 pm

Okay, this was getting kind of frustrating. Why was Roland so worried? Nothing would be taken wrong unless he did something wrong. She frowned at the scar she was being shown. Did he think Tuck was going to do that to him? What is even..

"But Tuck doesn't dislike you. He's a nice guy, a good one! He doesn't punch first and ask questions later. Why are you weary? There's nothing to be worried about. Why don't you talk to him? You'll find he really isn't out to get anyone..." This was ridiculous. Tuck didn't stalk her and he didn't pounce on people for talking to her. Nothing would end badly unless Roland tried to come on to her in some way. And if he did? She could take care of it..

Man. She needed more chocolate. Heidi crammed the rest of the chocolate in her mouth and chewed, giving Ro a thumbs up. When she finally swallowed she sighed and rubbed her throat. Ow. "So if we're not sparring, what're doing?"

Tuck not disliking him was still an alien concept so the raised eyebrow of surprise continued to sit on his face as she spoke to him. "I'm just. Not good with that stuff? Every time I tried to do something I just made things worse so I figured it's better now to just keep away from him and stuff."

Moving over to the dummies he finished his own chocolate bar, better to stop talking about Tuck and more about what he wanted to do today since they where here and he said he was going too.

"Well that, depends on your weapon." Holding out a hand Sylvia appeared before he hefted the scythe up to rest on his shoulder. "Are you ranged or close range?"
