Genesis and Walpurgis had made their way back to base after she’d been freed from jail. The mission to check out the station had been a failure, but at the very least they’d gotten some Poké Balls of Unknown Content out of it. Those had been shipped off for another member to check out, and for now, the two were simply resting.

At Walpurgis’ request, she held her left hand out to him. She wasn’t sure to what extent it’d been damaged – she simply knew that it hurt and that she wouldn’t try to stop a freaking pipe going at high speed with her bare hand again. Then again, it wasn't as if she could have helped it. Her hand or her head: the priority had been obvious.

Her right hand was buried in the thick ruff of Erebos’ mane. The Lucario was still unconscious and had been laid across her lap, but a potion was at work curing him. A bowl of berries had been set aside for when he woke, and Genesis snatched it into the air when a young Poochyena made attempts to grab it.

It’s for your dad,” she warned, setting it down on a chair and giving the Poochyena’s nose a disapproving poke. Her Poochyena, along with a few of her other Pokémon, had darted out of her room as soon as she’d returned and were curled and dozing against her, their warm and familiar forms a comforting presence. Kronos had gotten caught in one of her shirts and had ended up waddling out with it on, dragging it behind her like a skirt. Genesis figured she would have to clean her room eventually, but for now, she simply bunched it up into a makeshift pillow for Erebos.

Walpurgis inspected the other rocket's hand carefully, turning it over lightly in his own. Her fingers were lightly fractured, but there weren't any errant bone fragments. He wasn't sure what had happened, but it was good she wasn't too heavily injured.

Walpurgis nodded to himself as he looked over the accumulated guests around the room. The girl before him seemed to be kind to them, given their actions. He gave a light smile at the interaction between the Genesis and the poochyena.

Opening up his briefcase, he began to pull out things he'd need to make a few splints. "If you're willing, would you tell me what happened to your hand? You don't have to, but I'm not going to lie; this is probably going to hurt, and you might want something to distract you."

Eh, I’d rather not,” Genesis replied bluntly, well aware by now that he’d easily be able to see through any ruse she played. She’d taken off the wig and had changed earlier, but though she felt more comfortable out of that stuffy outfit, she was still tired and didn’t feel up to masking her emotions. Besides, it was nice to simply say what she wanted and mean it, too. Funny how things worked, wasn’t it? It was easier to be truthful to a stranger than a friend. But it wasn’t as if she was going to spill her guts out to him, either.

Do your worst, Doctor,” she teased, trying to lighten herself up. She knew if she tensed it would only hurt all the more, but it was natural to try and fight against pain.

She took a deep breath.

Pulling out two long strips of wood, Walpurgis placed them on top of each other as the girl spoke. Retrieving one of his knives, he cut them cleanly into thirds. "My worst would consist of ruining your hand even more with intolerably abhorrent aim, with possible permanent damage to the nerves, which would, of course, render your left hand useless forever. I'd prefer to do my best, but I'm willing to compromise with a strictly average attempt." He smiled. "Is that fair?"

As strange as it sounded, watching Walpurgis slice through the wood was calming. It was obvious he had some experience, and though Genesis realized all doctors had to start somewhere, she didn’t want to be some newbie’s guinea pig, especially when it came to her hand.

Geeze, you sure know how to ease someone into these things,” she said with a roll of her eyes but a grin on her lips. “I can settle for average.

Taking two of the six strips, Walpurgis placed them on either side of Genesis's left index finger's proximal phalanx. "Then we have an agreement." Holding the strips in place with his left hand, he grabbed the bandages and some adhesive with his right. "Now, this will probably hurt, so you may want to grit your teeth." Pressing the wood against her finger, he began to wrap the bandage around the wood until he was satisfied with it's thickness and rigidity. Applying the adhesive, he held the bandage in place until it was dry.

Genesis grumbled, her lips pressed into a thin line as she tried to keep her hand from tensing. She jerked when the wood was tied around her finger, but she made no sound after her initial noise of complaint.

Erebos felt the motion and woke with a start and a snarl, but Genesis had anticipated it and kept her right hand on his head. She pressed down lest he instinctively lunge with a bite and ran her fingers through his fur to calm him. It kept her mind off her wound and served to help them both.

"You're doing fine." Although he spoke to Genesis, Walpurgis' eyes were on the lucario. The other rocket seemed to have a handle on it, so it shouldn't be anything to worry about. Still, he decided to keep at least a small amount of attention on it. He placed the next set of wooden strips to her middle finger's proximal phalanx, repeating the process.

Though it was still painful, it was easier to deal with the second one, and Genesis was sure the next wouldn't hurt as much, too. She gave a slight smile at Walpurgis' encouragement but otherwise said nothing, unwilling to distract him from his work.

Erebos, meanwhile, returned Walpurgis' attention. A sharp red eye on the trainer, but he was no stranger to wounds and splints, and once he realized what was going on, his warnings quieted to nothing. He was still tired from the battle and content to relax, though it had been days since it passed. It seemed he'd missed a lot since his loss to that Arcanine. His muzzle wrinkled at the recollection.

"Last one." As he finished wrapping Genesis' ring finger, he gave a small smile. "You handled that better than the last person I made splints for. I didn't come out of it with a black eye, for one."

((He could give Ere a look over if he wants, too. owo))

Genesis laughed, partly because of Walpurgis' humor, and partly as an outlet for the relief she felt now that it was over.

"Thank you," she said softly, turning her hand to inspect his work. "For everything."

She picked Erebos' bowl from the chair when she was free to move and placed it within easy reach for him, feeling awkward now that there was nothing to do. Social situations weren't really her forte.

"Genesis, by the way," she said, feeling stupid. He'd no doubt already received her name as part of the mission details, but she'd forgotten to properly introduce herself until this moment.

Erebos slipped easily off Genesis' lap to approach the offered berries, but Kronos beat him to it and her large head blocked off the bowl entirely. With a snort, he pawed her aside, but only half-chewed remnants remained, and he wasn't sure if he was willing to go for those.

((I figure Walpurgis would just leave the healing of Erebos to the machines given they're back in base now. We can just have Genesis and Walpurgis commenting on stupid crap to pass the remaining posts. xD))

Walpurgis began to put things away as Genesis spoke. "No need to thank me; it's what I'm here for, after all." Closing up the briefcase, Walpurgis turned and smiled. "Not that I lack appreciation for your intent. It's a nice change from black eyes and swearing."

He extended his right hand to the other rocket. "I'm Walpurgis. A pleasure to finally meet you, although I would have preferred it under better circumstances."

((Haha, sounds good. xD))

Genesis grinned and shook his hand. “Likewise.

Then, her eyes straying to the clock, “Jeez, I’m sorry to have kept you up so late.

With a grumble, Erebos decided to eat the berries. It wasn’t as if he hadn’t had worse, and besides, his trainer had brought them for him. Shortly after he finished, he could hear the familiar patter of Kronos’ paws as she ran towards Walpurgis, only to bat at the trainer’s Poké Balls and bark loud enough to wake the entire hallway. Rolling his eyes, he went to retrieve his offspring.

Genesis laughed and kissed him on the head when she took Kronos from him, and he blinked in surprise. She’d gotten less morose and more affectionate since she joined Team Rocket it was true, but this... He wondered again what had happened since his defeat to have made her so relieved to see him again.

"Eh, it happens."

In truth, he wasn't in any rush to get to sleep and see the dreams again. He was tired of reliving those nightmares. He was pushed out of thought as the poochyena from earlier knocked a pokeball off his belt. The pokeball opened with a flash and Gangrel appeared. The rattata's eyes turned a light blue as he saw the poochyena, but Walpurgis grabbed him before he could start fighting.

"Gangrel, we're not battling, that was an accident." Gangrels' eyes shifted back to their normal red, but Walpurgis could sense his disappointment. "We'll have a battle later, promise." He scratched the rattata behind his ears as he spoke.

Genesis tensed, tightening her hold when Walpurgis’ Poké Ball fell. As expected, Kronos shoved against her with all her might, loud snuffles coming from her mouth and nose as she tried to inspect the Rattata despite the distance between them. She whined when the Rocket said there would be no battle, and resumed her barking, trying to goad the other into fighting.

Genesis knew Gangrel was an experienced fighter and wouldn’t fall for the bait. With a roll of her eyes, she quieted her charge, then signaled at her Pokémon stirring awake to return to the room.

I better get going. Thanks again,” she said. She gave him a light dip of her head, the corner of her mouth curling into a smile, and quickly retrieved her bowl and shirt before stepping away.

Erebos bristled at the potential fight, but calmed as Gangrel’s eyes returned to their normal sanguine hue. He mirrored Genesis’ action towards the Rattata he’d sparred with so often, and padded silently after his trainer.
