Of the movies not start Anthony Hopkins, Hannibal Rising - in my opinion - was very well done. I enjoyed the look into the history of Hannibal - anything history with me and I'm sold.
So what did you think?

I thought it was awful. I thought the book was worse. But Gaspard Ulliel is a very attractive young man so to a degree I guess it evens out as the movie is relatively nice to look at.

Poor little Misha ! crying And poor young Hannibal too ! The movie and the book are very well both. We can understand better the evolution of Hannibal character. Gaspard Ulliel is doing well in this role.

Gaspard Ulliel is doing well in this role. I agree. The Misha plot broke my heart. And I did like the book and the movie for the back story. I felt like the franchise kinda needed that, plus I'm a history fan so I like anything that has some historical content. Gaspard Ulliel was very good in this movie. I would love to see him in more stuff.

I adored the book but the movie was okay. in its own right it was good but the content compared to the book i thought it wasnt superb. Gaspard was wonderful but i just wish he looked a bit younger seeing as how Hannibal was still very young when he left and went to see lady Murasaki. to have been able to witness Hannibal's hatred towards the rude as a young man would have revealed more about his nature i think.

A Redhead Angel apparently, I thought it was forgettable. I don't even remember watching it, but I did. Parts of it were, and then parts where Misha is killed and where Hannibal is killing for the first couple of times - or high - that's very memorable in my opinion.

I love that the drawing that we read about in Hannibal Rising has come out in Hannibal (the tv show) I mean we know hannibal draws because his cell is plastered with them in Red Dragon, but the comment about the scalpel being the best way to sharpen a pencil and the reason he got into medicine in the first place. I love that.

And Hannibal is a wonderful artist ! whee The book and the movie are additional and allow us to better understand how Hannibal became "HANNIBAL". Lady Murasaki is an important character, she is one of the few people he wishes and cares but he loses her (he literally pass to the dark side of the Force ! ninja ). Before the death of his parents and his sister, Hannibal is already a very smart and gifted young boy, but when they dies, something is broke forever in himself. But something else, a terrible thing is born at that moment... Hannibal is a kind of fallen angel, with a very extreme sense of aesthetics. He knows perfectly human nature, but it is paradoxically inhuman and so evil... twisted
A true Lucifer ! Gorgeous and manipulator ! But he feels lonely very lonely. And I also think he is bored often, like Sherlock Holmes because they both need a very important intellectual stimulation.

I agree and I think that's why, as viewers and readers, we have so much sympathy for Hannibal when we know we shouldn't. Just like you want to feel sorry for the Phantom of the Opera but he's really a murderer and a terrorist...but all he wants is to be loved.
