A huff fell from her muzzle, nose lifting to the air for a moment. She breathed in the cool mixture of trees and small creatures that wandered about the Flock territory. A somewhat bored expression crossed her, before hte mare shook out her mane, and flicked her tail in minor irritation. She frowned, letting her gaze flicker about the area. So much for the prospect of an interesting hunt. Vanrui sighed, before walking forward without a fear in the world, her paws easily feeling the shift of the earth beneath her. If there was nothing to hunt, what fun would there be in the world today? Maybe if she ventured a little farther away from the territory... A curious look crossed her, before she almost barked out a laugh at the prospect. Nothing out there would be able to stand a chance against her!

Naberius padded along the forest floor, taking what shelter her could from the summer sun. The sun was harsh and heavy on his thick coat and dark color, and everything was so damn bright during the day. He much preferred the twilight hours, but for now he kept to the shade of the forest the best he could. In his mouth dangled the remains of a spring fawn that he had ambushed in the meadow a few moments earlier. It was an easy enough kill: Naberius didn't fly often but it was a clever tactic to use while hunting.
He had started his meal in the open field, but the sun beating down on him made him try to find better shelter before settling down to finish. He found himself in an unfamiliar area, but it seemed as good as a spot as anywhere. After all, who was going to tell him otherwise?

The mare shifted, easily weaving through trees. She paused at one point, ears perking at the sound of something in the distance. Lifting her nose to the air once more, she breathed in several times, before locating the harsh smell of blood and death. A wicked smirk shifted over her features. Yes, that was it. This was fun. Someone was hunting in Flock hunting territory. Which meant she had all the right to go and investigate. Shifting forward easily, Vanrui moved through the trees, following the smell of blood until she let her eyes flicker forward, and toward the creature through the trees.
It was a large stallion, with wings that would rival any creatures. Vanrui had never seen anything like it, nor had ever heard rumors of a creature with wings like that. Or wings resembling much of anything. She tilted her head, eyes curious, before shifting forward and somewhat out of the brush to eye him curiously. Mother would tell her to have a few other Harpies at stand by, in case he attacked. But, in general, she wasn't too worrried. And she wasn't interested in capturing stallions, never had been. So this was going to be an easy feat, just getting information.

Just as Naberius was settled down and began to enjoy his lunch, for a second time, the rustle of someone approaching caused his ears to stand up straight and swivel around. Instinctually a protective snarl formed on his lips and deep rumbling echoed through his chest. "Who's there," he growled, his muscled tension in case he would have to protect his kill from a foolish pack of wolves or gutsy cougar.
But when caught a veiled glimpse another Soquili, his eyes narrowed, but his posture didn't change. Not yet...how was it he didn't hear the heavy hoofbeats beforehand?

Vanrui's ears pinned back at his voice. She let out a low snarl of her own, daring him to even try and fight her back. She flicked her tail, wolf like in shape but made of hair, and her mane shifted a bit over her face. She dropped her head for a brief moment, and bared fangs, before shaking out some of her fur and stared at him with an even, dark look of white/grey eyes. Her mother had always claimed them to be hauntingly beautiful, and at hte same time deadly.
"You're hunting in Flock territory; Flock hunting grounds." She paused, her eyes flickering to take in the dead deer. That could have fed the foals for days. She glanced back up at him and frowned, her eyes narrowing again. "What are you doing this close to the Flock?" She questioned, curious as to why a creature would be so near the dangerous territory

Naberius got a better look at the creature now, and get got up as she made seemed to be holding her ground So that's why I didn't hear hoofbeats, he thought to himself as he looked over, noting the paws and fangs. He was instantly intrigued; he had never met another Soquili who had such wolfish features beside his family. Was her mother that of a purewalker, too? If so, he would have to careful; she may be a admirable foe, though, Naberius still towered over her and his confidence held fast.
"Territories are just invisible walls with invisible meaning," he sneered. He did whatever he damned well pleased, and he certainly didn't see the reasoning in a creature 'owning' a piece of land by pissing on it. But he made sure to do a quick sweep of the area, to make sure he wasn't being set up for an ambush. His large wings flared up, making him look even larger, as the eyes on them scanned the areas. "What the hell is flock?" he asked irreverently.

Vanrui blinked at him, tilting her head curiously to one side, then the other. What was he doing out here. She glanced around the area, sniffing somewhat to try and find out if he had a family near by. If so, that would be a problem. She couldn't have a huge family ( since she though tall famili ties were huge ) in her area, hunting her food and possibly coming to hunt the foals of the Flock. Instead, he seemed to be alone. She eyed the deer again, before lifing her eyes to him, staring with a stubborn look.
Curiosity hit her at his first sentance. What? Well, that was interesting. She'd never heard it before; and in a sense, it was true. The Flock kept their territory protected by having Sisters patrol the areas, but at the same time, anyone could come in and claim that part of it was theirs first. The sisters would kill them, of course, but it was still a factor. She shook out her mane, before removing the offensive stance from her form, and standing at ease; though she was ready to launch if needed. Vanrui had always been taught that bigger didn't always win. A small creature could win if they kept their wits about them. "The Flock is a sisterhood of Harpies... You haven't heard of Harpies?" She asked, her voice now taking on a curious tone.

Naberius kept himself at attention; his ears and eyes still scanning for others that may be lurking around, but he dropped the threatening sneer off his face as the female creature seemed more interested in talking than fighting...for the moment.
"Harpies?" He snorted, "No. Should I have?" A sisterhood? What the hell was that supposed to mean? Part of him felt it was a shame for such an able-bodied (and not unattractive) female to be addled with the crippling weakness of relying on others and following orders.

Vanrui stared at him for a few moments. She analyzed his wings. They were large, adn the things at the ends... were those eyes? She frowned for a split second, before brushing it off and glanced down at his paws. So was he like father? She mused to herself, before shaking her head and focused once more. He was talking again, asking what a Harpy was. That was always hard to explain to outsiders; especially since she was only part Harpy.
"Harpies are bird like creatures... With large talons for feet and feathers." She paused, glancing back at he own feathered flank, flicking her tail which caused them to ruffle, before focusing once more on him. "It means we all fight together, and hunt together. And live it he same area... basically. Though some of us tend to prefer doing things on their own." She stated matter-of-factly. That being was herself. She loved her family,a nd would never leave the Flock. But, it was true that she prefered to hunt and explore on her own, finding that those that took to the trees sometimes disterbed her own hunting style.

Naberius regarded the feathers on her rump, but that was the only thing about her that seemed remotely bird-like. True, he had wings similar to a bird, but he always considered them more demonic than avian. He flexed them for emphasis. "You don't look like a bird, you look like a wolf," he said, taking a few cautionary steps closer. "What's a wolf doing relying on silly little birdies, anyway?" he asked with a bemused smile. "You don't look like you need any help to take care of yourself."

There was a moment of tension in her muscles when he seemed to take closer steps. As if she was preparing to fight him off. But when he continued to merely talk, she relaxed, and tilted her head in response, staring at him with those sharp eyes that she inherited from her father. She took many things from him; even the feathers were that of her feather's markings, though given to her by her mother. She arched a brow for a moment, before sending him her own amused smile. "My father is a wolf. I take after him, which is why I'm out alone. Birds of a feather, paws of a pack. I prefer hunting alone. They give away my position too often for my liking." SHe stated simply. "And I can take care of myself. Very. Well." She put enphasis on the last words, flexing her paws some in the dirt, showing that if he was going to attack, she would fight back.

"My father was also a wolf. Well, something similar to one at least. More like a hound of hell," he said, letting his toothy smile indicate he wasn't ashamed of this fact. He didn't mention his mother's lineage, not yet. While she inherited her wit, he didn't want to be associated with her madness.
"But your loyalty to your pack is just a form of manipulation." He gave a sneer of distaste. "I don't let myself be manipulated by anybody," he said gruffly, pawing back over to his kill and laying down defiantly, eagerly tucking back into his meal.

Vanrui blinked at him, frowning in minor confusion. A hound of hell? What did that mean? She shook out her mane some, getting a few of the stray strands from her face, before she thought about it. Hell hounds... her mother had told rumors of them, but she hadn't paid mind to them. After all, the real hounds from hell were Walkers. So said her moter. She frowned some, before shrugging hte thought off, and let her eyes once more linger on the stallion, who seemed to be enjoying his kill.
"Manipulation? No. It is a home. One that I am quite proud to be a part of." She stated, eyes locked. SHe loved the Flock; and had learened a lot from them; even though most of her knowledge came from her father. "I have full control of my actions. If I don't want to do something, I don't, and if I do, I do. I don't let htem control me."

"If you say so," he scoffed, around a large piece of deer he was chewing. His father had told him about the pain and prison he had been kept in by being loyal to his purewalker master. If his mother had had her way, he wouldn't even be alive. He was was grateful to his father, but not loyal. He was a fool for being duped, and that was something he would never, ever submit himself to.
"It's not my job to try and convince you otherwise," he said, the sharp crunch - pop of a bone snapping cutting through the air as he gnawed it in his powerful jaw. "But no one thinks they are being manipulated. That defeats the point. If you can do whatever you want, you do not fear what they would think if you did something they would disapprove of?"
