It seemed like it was just yesterday when Vintage finally spilled the beans to Hyde how she felt about him. If it hadn't been for her loving, best friend - her mouse familiar Anca, Vintage would probably still be the depressing sad sack she was without Hyde.
Hyde.
She grinned as delicious shivers ran up her spine. Hyde. Her mate. She knew the first time she said it she would never get tired of hearing or even thinking it. He was truly a sweetheart, her one true love. How was she so blind to his feelings before his confession of his own love for her.
Having wandered a bit from her love, then again they never were far from each other since that day, Vintage dipped her head to the small pool before and lapped at the water. When she raised her head she looked to Hyde and smiled, licking a few stray drops of water from the side of her mouth. Swishing her tail back and forth she padded back towards him.

Life felt like a dream, the kind of dreams he had over and over what felt like a lifetime ago now. Yet he still thanked his lucky stars every time her name even passed casually through in thought. There life together had been bliss, a void that they had both felt for so long filled with one another... and the returning of their mischievous mice friends. Everything felt right and there was no hardship in their life, in fact they'd chosen to settle in the place of so many of their meetings for a time. Though they had done some travelling here and there this was the clearing where so much had happened between the two and as such it always felt like pure perfection whenever they resided here.
Today he froze under her gaze and grinned. Darn if she hadn't looked up he would of probably sneaked right behind to pounce ah well... now he'd just have to....
Chase!
With a playful roar he sprung from the spot and towards her with the full intention of catching up and pinning her just to show how much he loved her. As well as how much she was his and he would never let her go, if she didn't want to play he'd probably bound into her a little and if she ran then they'd play untill one of them got tired enough to slow and be caught. Hyde loved his life, he couldn't find a single fault!Jekyll perched a little way off licking up some dew drops from some foliage before turning to try and identify where his own mate had wandered off to. He too was happier than ever and he had thought that impossible. Not only did he have Anca, just as before, but now both their lions were happy and together. There was no doubt the four would always come back together despite their little wanders in separate pairs and as for his first litter... well he saw one occasionally here and there. It was becoming quite clear the very grown mice babies could find any of them here regularly. It was nice, and it was all his life.

When she lifted her head to look at Hyde, Vintage had caught the playful gleam in his eyes and that adorable smirk on his face. She barely had to think a second thought before she let out a delightful squeal and turned on her heel. Vintage could hear Hyde coming up close behind her but that didn't matter. She was giggling wildly as the two brightly most mismatched lions streaked through the clearing.
Taking a sharp turn to the right vintage cast a glance back, if Hyde were close enough he would have no problem tackling her now, but if she had any space she might just be able to pull away from him for a short distance before careening into the swimming hole right in front of her.
There was only one thing in this world that gave Anca even the slightest bit of pain and worry, and that was simply that her children were grown and on their own. As a mother, she would probably never get over that feeling. With somewhat of a bitter sweet smile she watched as Hyde chased Vintage from the shade of an overhanging limb of a shrub. Looking over to her mate she waved her tail and squeaked, "Jeky!" to draw his attention. Before he got to close she would replace her bitter sweet smile with that of one filled with genuine love for her mate. "Life is perfect now, right Jeky?" She would say with a flick of her tail.

He gave a good chase but it was no secret she had always been more agile than he. Hyde remembered their games even as she was younger he had thought perhaps her size had given Vintage the advantage. Here as adults however she still out paced him just about every time, he'd heard in prides the lionesses hunted and figured she was probably just build better for the activity than him. Not that he minded it made it fun when he had to get smart sometime to try and gain any sort of advantage. Plus she wasn't his prey just his target and it was never life or death whether he won or not. The red and green lion chuckled delightfully as he sped up but not quite enough to get close enough to make a pounce so he carried on after her!
Oh and what a view it was, any excuse to lay his gaze on her and every time he marvelled at how beautiful she was. Though he wasn't particularly experienced with the other gender he knew she was special, unique and in his long life thus far he'd never seen anything like her. The lion found himself pondering this sometimes but had yet to really voice his curiosity for fear of upsetting his perfect mate. Besides he wasn't about to risk loosing the most valued thing just because he was a little boggled, he'd learnt to stop doubting his worth and accept she truly shared in his feelings about them being together.
Hearing the squeak he skittered over to Anca and nuzzled her, he too knew how lucky he was and even if Mice were a bit more up front about feelings he still knew it important to show his affections at every opportunity. "Anca love" the red mouse squeaked in return, "Yes, life perfect" he couldn't help but beam, though he too was having a pang of parental desire. Jekyll was however reasonable about it, he knew things would just happen as they were supposed to. Unlike their lion friends and how the two mice had given them a nudge there wasn't anything else that could be done in regards to having more children. It would either happen again or it wouldn't, he knew he was lucky to of have one litter and they all survive whereas their friends had yet to show any signs of blessings of their own. "Jeky has Anca, Hyde has Vintage, Jeky could ask for no more."

Ha! She always had been the faster runner! With another zig and one more zag and Vintage had a clear shot of the water. Lowering her head and giving in one more burst of speed as she pulled away from Hyde and launched into the air with her head thwon back in a wild peel of laughter. Splashing into the water she sunk to the bottom and waited a few moments, not knowing that the air bubbles had stopped rising to the surface. Bracing herself against the bottom she pushed off. As her head broke the surface she grinned and shook the water and wet hair from her face.
If Hyde had followed her in she would turn to him, a bright loving look with a bit of mischief hiding in her eyes. If he were still on the shore he would swing around quickly, her tail rising out of the water enough to send a small shower of water flying in his direction. Either way, she made sure they were both wet.
Anca snuggled into Jekyll and sighed contently. She had been grinning when Vintage hit the water but then grew a little concerned. "She should be careful more..." She said in a hushed tone, as if talking to herself. She cast a quick glance to her mate and smiled a knowing smile. Wrapping her tail around his and giving him a gentle nibble on the cheek, Anca make a dreamy noise, "I have feeling, family will be bigger soon..."

The bigger lion hadn't managed to gain any advantage and had lagged behind despite trying his best but it did give him a clear view of her launching herself in the water and he kept pace. By his thoughts he'd hit the water at the perfect time and with such an assumption followed in, whilst he was in the air seeing her form start to surface. So when he hit the water it was timed perfectly to send it flying everywhere, and a big wave at the just emerging Vintage, a big blur of red and green. However he didn't stay under longer and re surfaced to shake his mane off and push his weight towards her, aiming to lick her cheek on the way as a little gotcha kinda show. Though he wasn't dumb he hadn't won the over all game, yet he was here with her and still felt like a winner of the bigger game, life.
The flecks on the side of his ears twitched as he chuckled, deep from within his chest and admired the water as it slid down her face. Even her grace and form in the glistening pool sent shivers down his spine he couldn't help but winding down with a smile. The two very wet lions bobbing in the water as the sun shined down, yup life was perfect and splashing a little water towards her with his paw he beamed from ear to ear.
"I love you even if your win every time." Then he felt the rumble start from his stomach again and he laughed, so content with his life. Tail flicking casually in the water probably the only graceful part of the entire goof of a lion.
"Careful?" Jekyll looked at his beloved with a curious expression, she was forever more observant than him and always seemed to know things everyone else seemed oblivious about. Watching her, he studied her expression and listened even tightening his grasp on their entwined tails to en force that he was paying attention. "Anca and Jeky?" Then he thought about it some more and made a rather large ooooooo noise before smiling and nibbling back on her cheek, even licking around her ears a little in a casual way. "Big friends? Little friends!?"
