Dakota stared at Candace intently. He had plans, he had charts and graphs and percentages and stuff and he had chocolate and kisses and all sorts of things to get her to see.
He really wanted a hunter house. The dorms were nice, and they offered you know...safety and stuff but....They weren't big. They weren't big enough for stuff.
He wanted a lot of stuff okay.
Like house full of stuff.
"Okay Candace, Can we talk about it now?" He stared at her, wrapping his arms around her waist. "Work's all done and your with me and we should talk about....house."

Candace had no interest in a home in the towns. She had made this clear to Dakota not just once, but many times. She loved him, she wanted him safe, she didn't even like Gale living out in the town. It just wasn't safe enough, for every argument there was for it she could think of even more against it.
She was still typing out notes on her phone when Dakota hugged her, leaning back against him and trying not to look annoyed.
House.
"No."

"But I have a new argument now. And I think you'll like it..." He kissed right under her ear before whispering.
"Closet space."

Candace did pause a moment.
Closet space...
Her own closet plans had been put on hold for reasons. Many reasons.
"..I see no point in renovating the walk-in closet of my dreams if that house is just going to get crushed in some kind of attack. Do you know how many times Gale's house has been ********> Candace gave Dakota a very disapproving look.
"No."

"Even if we put up a systemically placed Runic daggers around it as well as inside the house? The only ones that are effected by them are creatures made of FEAR." He squeezed her.
"Plus, I have blueprints to put the queen of england's closet to shame. It'd be big enough for you to have one room for clothes...and one room for shoes." he waited, "And you don't even have to share with me..."
he waited another beat. "And we could have sex wherever we wanted without worrying about other hunters walking in on us or hearing us."

"Do runic daggers stop explosions?" Candace did lean back comfortably against Dakota as he squeezed her, at least. She was annoyed but she loved him.
She finally stopped typing when he mentioned the blueprints. Two rooms. Clothes, shoes. No sharing. Candace just stared down at the screen of her phone, her eyes darting from the phone to Dakota and then back down to her phone.
"..Wait, do you actually worry about that?" This was an honest question. Candace blinked and lowered her phone while she looked up at Dakota again. "I couldn't care less if people hear us." And as if to prove her point she tossed her phone aside and turned around to climb onto Dakota's lap and face him, sitting on her knees with a leg on either side of her boyfriend. Her hands slid up his chest and she leaned in to brush her lips against his. "Someone could walk in on this right now, and I wouldn't care," she whispered, her voice a breath against his lips.
"We already can have sex wherever we want, really." Candace brushed her lips against Dakota's.
"The answer is no."

"No, They don't. But they stop the number one thing that has destroyed the homes for awhile. Gale's house was only destroyed because he didn't have the extra protection." Dakota frowned when she paused, knowing that the closet space was his real bargaining chip but...
"And we'd have a jacuzzi tub and one of those like...nice full body showers" He grinned as she turned around, pushing him to the couch to straddle him and place sweet temptations and no. No Candace you cannot distract him. ONLY HE COULD DISTRACT WITH KISSES.
He returned all of them though, and offered some of his own.
"Never ashamed of us baby..." He cupped her bottom, pressing her closer before sighing. "I just wanted a real kitchen, and living room you know? My mom and my sister. We didn't have a home. A real house...." He sighed again, "We always moved and lived in someone else's house."
He let his hands drop...
"Just wanted a place to collect things, Hang pictures of family. Make a real home out of it. Not like a dorm in college thing." he studied Candace, giving her the saddest amber eyes he could manage. "I wanted to share a home with you..."

"Good." Candace stayed where she was even though she had finished making her point. No, Dakota. Just no. No ******** face went from seductive and smug to surprised. That...that was why he wanted a house? Because he never had one? Candace frowned. But they were so unsafe. She didn't want to live in the town, and living in the town meant..leaving Molly alone.
Her heart plummeted into her stomach when he gave his last argument. He wanted all of those things, he wanted them with her.
How the ******** do I say no to this?
Atropos cackled.
"..But..." Town. Candace groaned. "It's...it's not safe..a-and it's so far.."
Why.
"...Ugh. Show me these blueprints." Candace said with a sigh.

Yes...Yes it was working. He could see it crumbling. He had plans Candace.
"Okay well Hold on." He pushed himself up, cradling her against him and carried her over to the countertop of the kitchen before sitting her there. "Just...stay right there. I got this." disappeared, reappeared with a rolled up huge paper and unrolled it on the counter next to her.
"See, I was thinking of the two story houses? We'd have rooms upstairs and all the other stuff downstairs." He drew his finger on the top part of the chart. "This'd be our room, and it'd be pretty big, about half of the upstairs. We'd have a huge bathroom with the tub and shower here, and beyond that is..." He gave her a sheepish look, "Closet for you. I kind of designed it to be the size of a second bedroom, there's a sliding panel in between with a mirror on either side. One side for clothes, the other for your shoes." He smiled as he pointed out the pretty well designed plans. Being in moons for two years gave him a lot of expertise and skills, measurements and stuff for building. Plus he was going to ask Marcus for help too, knowing he could rely on the older moon hunter.
"The other half of the upstairs is another room, we could put whatever we wanted there." He shrugged, "if you wanted another roommate too, though I think its a little close to our room and really ruins the whole, we can have sex where ever." He ahemed before drawing his finger down.
"And then here is the downstairs. We'd have a real kitchen. Counters, island with stove in the middle. Dishwasher, fridge. We could have legit meals you know? Not just stuff I microwave. Or sandwiches I steal when I raid Marcus's and Cass's fridge." He drew his finger outwards. "There'd be a back porch too I think, with a sliding glass door out of the kitchen. Anyways and then over here is the living room, and then the men's room..." He gave her a grin, "With all those fancy games and pool table and s**t like that."
He sighed, "It's like a dream home. My mom and I talked about it when I was younger you know? She always felt bad for us constantly moving around with the tribe, we never had anything we could root in. And we usually stayed in small rooms with other families in a house or in teepee's..." He gave her a pointed look, "during the summer."
"Mom never had a place to put pictures....so she had like this box we had to take with us everywhere. It was filled with shots of me and Shiva and her and our family and everywhere we went. And it was all just...stuffed into a box that we carted around with all our other little belongings." He looked up at Candace. "When the fire demon thing burned our home down, that box went with it. It was the first to go of our belongings. Mom cried for a week straight after that. All our memories stuffed into a tiny box, not posted on the walls in a home or anything. Safely put away with other of our things you know?"

She couldn't agree to this. No. They could..they could do what the guys did! She could move down a couple rooms, or he could take a room near her, and they could combine them and tear down the walls and make the apartments bigger. It could be done! They didn't have to leave! She put her head on Dakota's shoulder as she was carried, sighing quietly and then sitting dutifully on the counter. "I won't move," Candace told him as he left, she didn't sound even the slightest bit excited about this.
Dakota returned with..wow, he really did have blueprints. He was actually prepared. Candace blinked and looked down at them, following Dakota's hands and listening to what he had to say. She would humor him until she told him no again. She would definitely be telling him no again. This couldn't happen. No. They had to stay in the dorms. She didn't want to live in the town. It had been abandoned for a reason. Whoa..that was a really big bedroom. Our room. We would have this. Dakota really wanted her to live in this house with him. Her. She glanced at him in time to catch the sheepish look, chuckling and sighing as she turned her attention back down to the closet. ********. She loved the closet space.
Goddamnit.
"..Where's your closet?" Candace frowned, following along the wall of the design to find it. He had said she wouldn't have to share, she really hoped that didn't mean he would just be leaving his stuff everywhere.
Why was she even thinking about this like any of it was an option? It wasn't. No, Dakota. No house.
Dakota didn't want roommates. He hadn't said it but he was hinting at it very well. Candace couldn't help but frown at that. "I'd feel like I'm abandoning Molly." Maybe she could leave Molly her apartment?
s**t. No. There was no 'maybe' anything. Only no.
That was quite the kitchen he wanted. Candace kind of just stared. "..Do you cook?" They really did only have simple meals together, but that seemed to be pretty standard on the island. "Because unless it comes in an instant packet, I don't cook. I never really took the time to learn how to do proper cooking." It probably wasn't hard to teach herself but she just..she didn't think she had time for that.
The porch sounded nice. "My house growing up had a porch swing.." Candace mentioned off-handedly. No. She was not agreeing to a house, Dakota. She refused.
And finally the man cave made her laugh. "A man cave. Oh man. It's not a proper one unless you find a giant flat screen television to put in there, you know." Despite her suggestions she was still determined to shoot all of this down. "If you get a man cave I'd want an office, that's just fair."
Still saying no.
And then Dakota brought up his family again and Candace could feel her resolve crack. Dakota, no. No. Just. No. Stop it. She didn't want a house. No. Please.
Amusement finally took over anxiety when he brought up tepees. "What?" She asked with a grin at he gave her that look. "I didn't say anything~. I didn't realize tepees were still a thing."
Oh god. That was the saddest story he had ever told her. Candace's smile fell, and she felt like an a** now. She did. Not. Want. A. House. End of story. She didn't want a house.
But he had so many personal reasons for wanting one. And Candace wanted Dakota to be happy. She wanted to shower him with everything he wanted and more, to spoil him and give him everything he could ever want.
But a house was something she did not want even a little bit.
"But Dakota..that would be more likely to happen again in a house even if you plaster every wall inside and out with barrier daggers. There's still that chance of losing everything because it's out there and not here, where Excalibur protects us and these belongings you want to have and keep are safe." He was making her feel terrible for not wanting this. Dakota really did want a house with her, just her. Sure, on the one hand it was appealing but on the other it was terrifying. There was so much that could go wrong. The fog out there was so unstable, there was the possibility of the Insanity in it overpowering the barrier daggers and destroying everything. And not only that, this was a very expensive plan he had. She made more being a specialist now but...still! This was so much! They didn't have to pay a mortgage or anything but the actual renovations would be so expensive. How could they afford that? How could Candace get herself to accept paying for something she didn't trust would last?
Why couldn't everyone just live in the goddamn protective barrier.
Or why couldn't Excalibur's protection extend to the entire island.
Goddamnit.
"Dakota...these plans..they're very nice. In any other circumstance I would be throwing myself at you and shouting yes at the top of my lungs. But it's just..so dangerous. Our missions are a danger we're anticipating, one we keep our guard up for, I don't want to have to be in mission mode every single day. I know you want to put up every precaution but I just...I don't think that's something I'd be able to get out of my head. If the town was more secure I'd be all for this..but...it's just not." ********. This was not what he wanted to hear. Candace combed her fingers through her hair and looked down at the plans with a groan. She did love them, the house would be great if he could pull it off, but the location was what held her back.
She didn't want to be out there. She didn't even like Gale and Cass being out there. They were so far away. If something happened in the dorms there was usually a quick response..if something happened in the towns how long would it take someone to come to their aid?

Dakota watched her face when she looked them over, saw her face light a little at the closet and then the room. Yes, so far so good!
"My closet will be a dresser...." He grinned at her, pointing to the room, "Plus in the Man Cave will be a smaller closet, I don't got a lot of things to hang anyways so I can just put the important stuff there. Tux, jackets...whatever. Man cave will have all the manly things." He puffed his chest.
But he could still see the no on her face.
"I think Molly'd be okay with it you know? She's a big girl. She'd even support us. But if you're unsure, we can take the man cave into a room?" He'd only do it for Molly. Because Molly. When she made the deal about man cave for office, he started to light up again. "Okay, what if we make the room upstairs your office? That'd be fair right?" He grinned, looking down and changing the blueprints mentally.
"I actually have a rough estimation of how long it'd take. About a year and half for the house to be built to this blueprint, and about all of my money for it too. At least on my part. You won't have to do a thing!" He grinned, "It'll be like my project and stuff. I mean it's not gonna like pop out of the ground. it might take two years but my plan is a year and a half."
He gave her a pointed look. "They aren't. My tribe was really old fashioned. Most others have cabins well placed around reserves." He waited. Listening to her.
Ah, she was so dead set on saying no. He wouldn't get irratated or mad with her because in her own right, she was right. Excalibur did protect them here. But the houses offered a freedom from the other hunters he wanted. It made him antsy to be around so many people. And with more trainee's popping up every day and hunters...their small floor they had would soon turn into a packed floor with no privacy and no space. he'd be tripping over hunters all day.
"Cass and Marcus and Gale would be our neighbors you know..." he hesitated..."Ah....But our dorms aren't either. How many times has this building been attacked from outside AND from the inside?" he frowned, "And with that new hunter team that is out to get us, how long are we really safe for in the dorms too." He reached over, running his hands up and down her arms. "We wouldn't be leaving here for two years almost, While I work on it, why don't you think about it? Maybe we can make it a vacation home or something..."

A dresser. That was it? Oh. Okay. The man cave closet would be okay. Men. "What? No, we couldn't take away your room.." Candace stopped when she realized she was speaking as if she had agreed. She frowned. No, she was not agreeing. She couldn't. She wouldn't. "..That..would be fair." No. It wouldn't. Because this would not happen.
A year and a half. His money? If this was a house for both of them she should contribute something more than consent.
Consent she still had not given.
Two years..that was a long time.
He gave her that look again regarding the tepees and she gave him a toothy smile, reaching out and walking her fingers up Dakota's chest. "Is something wrong? Don't like discussing tepees, darling?" She wouldn't have latched onto the subject if he didn't keep looking at her like that. She tugged him close and settled her legs on either side of Dakota, leaning in to kiss him. "Why don't you teach me more about tepees in the bedroom, hm?" Something that wasn't discussing a house Candace did not want.
And yet Dakota continued to insist on it. Candace groaned. "And I don't even like Cass and Gale being out there."
Candace bowed her head to put her forehead on Dakota's shoulder. She didn't want this house. No. Please, no. It was a waste of time, money, and effort. "..What new hunter team?" She frowned and lifted her head. Out to get them? What was he even talking about?
Ugh.
"You're going to do it even if I say no?"

"I don't even think you trying to turn Teepee's into sexy talk is going to help me like them." His eyebrow winged up, "But I'll teach you whatever you want in the bedroom..." he chuckled, kissing her back...deeply. His hands resting on her hips.
"Probably..." He snuggled her, kissing her neck, "But two years is a long time, things change." He shrugged, looking at the plans. "For all we know, we might not even make it. Or this Island much less. things could happen." He sighed.
"So, what was I doing? Teaching you things in the bedroom right?" He chuckled evilly, reaching over to push her against him and waggle his eyes brows at her. "You want to know what a real indian burn feels like?"

Candace purred. "And what is it you could teach me, darling?"We might not make it. Candace did not like that thought. She didn't like it at all. She held him tighter. "Pick a house and build it, any one you want. I'll help you if you need me to at any point," Candace whispered, her face hidden against his hair. We might not make it her a**. She was about to play with him again, chuckling and pressing against Dakota when he pulled her close, until he told her he was going to teach her about indian burns. Candace sat up and looked down at him. "Babe, that was not even a little bit sexy." Not even a tiny bit.

"Really?" Dakota's eyes literally lit up as she agreed to it and then hugged her tightly. "I love you, Love love love loveeeeeeeeeeeeeee...." He sang and blew rasperries all on her neck and kisses.
And then she told him that he wasn't sexy. Or his comment, BUT IT WAS LIKE THE SAME THING!!
He pulled back looking offended.
"It had to be a tiny bit sexy." He pinched his fingers together, "And a lot of funny. Funny is sexy right?"
