Thamin
Sharmila's ears flicked back and forth as she stepped silently thought the forest. Her mother, though never with words, had often warned her to be cautious when exploring unfamiliar territory in which she could not adequately see all angles about her. Shar didnt quite share her mothers worry and fear, but she did fully believe in being cautious.
.Tortured. .Pumpkin.

Grumbling could be heard from the shadows as Cenotaph bickered with her shadowy companion. He oh so enjoyed creeping through her smoking wounds that never seemed to heal, and it tickled the mare's insides. She nipped at it, only for the ghoul to disperse and reappear out of her reach. "Oh, you little jerk. I'll get you."
Thamin

Shar froze as the voice of another reached her ever twitching ears. Though cautious she was quite curious, and the sound of a strangers voice was too much to resist. She made her way in the direction of the unfamiliar being until she was close enough to see the outline of a mare through the trees. How curious it was; there seemed to be not a single soul about for the mare to be speaking to. Shar tilted her head, her eyes searching the surroundings for someone else. Curiosity compelled her to move forward, but caution kept her frozen.
.Tortured. .Pumpkin.

White ears twitched and eyes widened at the scent of another. Her heart raced and her mind panicked. The shadow let out a shriek of delight and raced around the mare's body. Cenotaph paid no mind to him anymore, she couldn't think. Frozen by fear, she stood in silence, waiting for the worst possibilities to become real.
Thamin

Shar couldnt help but notice the sudden rigidness of the mare before her. It sent a chill down Shar's spine for she recognized the behavior instantly. It was the same thing that her mother did when a predator was nearby. Shar searched the surrounding shadows for the predator that would be frightening the mare, to no avail though. Swiftly and silently Shar wove her way through the trees, making a wide circle around the mare, still searching. She paused when she returned to the spot she had been previously spying on the mare from. She could find no one.
.Tortured. .Pumpkin.

Cenotaph let out a light cry and began to breathe heavily as the mare circled. "please don't eat me, please don't eat me, please don't eat me..." Her mouth trembled and her body shook. She clamped her eyes closed and locked her jaw. Surely she didn't look very appetizing with all the spikes and such. In a plea of desperation she announced, "I'm plagued, you know!"
Thamin

Shar, for the life of her, could not figure out what creature could be tormenting the mare before her so. It wasn't until a few more moments passed until Sharmila realized that the only other being, and thus the one that must be frightening the mare... Was her? Shar furrowed her brow in confusion before coming to the conclusion that she had to confront the mare if she was to find out for sure. Slowly she stepped out from her covering, closer and closer, slowly and steadily as she tried not to scare the mare any more.
.Tortured. .Pumpkin.

Cenotaph couldn't bring herself to move or open her eyes. Everything went blank. There was no feeling in her body and her senses failed her. The ghoul laughed hysterically as the other mare approached, and began to weave its way through Cenotaph's hair. After a few moments of Shar approaching and still no reaction from his host, it pulled out the big guns. Without warning, the shadowed thing jolted into her neck hole and crawled around beneath her skin. This seemed to snap the mare out of her trance and she growled. "You stop that!"
Thamin

Shar instantly froze, her ears laying back. She realized that there was something around the mare that was making sounds, but she did not understand what it was or what it was doing to the mare before her. Because of this Shar assumed that the mare was yelling at her.
.Tortured. .Pumpkin.

The ghoul appeared to be a moving bump beneath the mare's skin, and it made its way to the cemetery perched on the mare's back. She nosed at the bump and grumbled. "Don't you dare, you little s**t..." Less than a moment later, smoke began pouring up around one of the graves and the mare shrieked in pain. "Stop that," she screamed. "I didn't do anything to you!"
Thamin

The bump beneath the mare's flesh did not draw Shars attention despite the mare nosing it, she still didnt have it in her head that the shadowy essence was a living thing. Shar frowned and took a step back as the mare exclaimed her displeasure. What had she done? Only when the shadowy essence seemed to seep from the mares back did Shar begin to realize that it was not a natural part of her body, and that It may be what was actually causing the mare such distress. She whined, feeling lost as to what to do. She had a strong urge to help.... But what could she do?
.Tortured. .Pumpkin.

At last her cries of pain stopped, and the creature emerged from one of her legs. Cenotaph tried to shake it off from her, but it made its way up to her back and perched itself between two graves. Its gaze was directed at the new-comer, and as the mare followed it, she froze again. She examined the mare and couldn't help but stare at her tail. It looked similar to that of a wolf. Or worse. A skinwalker
Thamin

The shadow.... Had eyes? The shadow was it's own being? Well.. That cleared up quite a bit of mental confusion for Sharmila. She brightened immediately as the mare looked at her, smiling and waging her tail. She was not use to greeting others at such a close proximity, but the mare seemed to have no intentions of attacking her - Shar saw no issues with being so close. No.... What was that word that soquili used to greet each other?
.Tortured. .Pumpkin.

The shadow chittered at the green mare as Cenotaph stared. Her fear only grew when the mare began showing her tail worked and wasn't just for show. Her ear drums rang and her heart pounded. "P-p-p-please..." She couldn't muster out any more words, and her breathing became heavy again.
Thamin

The smile slowly faided from Sharmila, her tail dropped and her ears once again pinned back. She lowered her head, certain now that the mare was frightened of her. A soft whine came from Shar as she franticly thought of what to do. "I'm sorry...." She mumbled as she began to back away.
.Tortured. .Pumpkin.

The mare began to calm down a bit as the mare backed away. Her breathing slowed and deepened, and she looked at the other mare with less fear. "Sorry? F-for what?" The ghoul laughed and made its way down the mare's leg as if to leave the mare and investigate, only to stop once it reached her hoof and start back up. "You're not going to eat me...?"
Thamin

"I..." Shar stammered as she continued to back further away. "I scarred you.... I did not mean to...." She admitted as she came to a halt. She watched the shadowy creature for a moment, confounded by it's laughter, but shortly returned her gaze to the mare. She gave a pleading look as the mare mentioned her eating her. "No... No I dont eat others..." Shar said. "I eat grass."
.Tortured. .Pumpkin.

Utter relief filled the mare's mind as the other mare spoke. She allowed her breathing to ease and her muscles to relax as she examined her. "I'm sorry... Just... Your tail... And your hooves... And I..." She sighed and looked at her 'companion.' The little demon was always crawling into her ears, telling her how awful everything was, how awful everything could be. It was a nightmare to have that thing living on her... And in her. It never left her alone.
Thamin

Shar felt stupid at this point, and the embarased chuckle that escaped her blatently gave it away. She valued her tail. She viewed it as a great asset in warding off predators that may wish to attack her or her mother. She should have realized that that which would ward off predators would frighten herbavores. "No, no.... I am sorry. I should have known. Curiosity and confusion.... I forgot that it could scare." Shar tilted her head at the litle creature that scurried about the mare before stretching out her neck and scenting the air. She wondered if it was anything like what her mother had attempted to explain had been around her own basket.
.Tortured. .Pumpkin.

Cenotaph stared at the ground, embarrassed herself. "It's..." She sighed. "It's not just you. It's everyone..." The mare looked at the ghoul. "I've had this thing since I was born... My mother has so many of them... And it just. It tells me such horrible things. I'm just so scared all the time." She frowned as the ghoul made its way to her head and disappear into her ear. The mare winced and her face twisted in pain. "I just... Don't know what to do."
Thamin

Sharmila straightened her posture, the mare's explanation easing her tension a bit. She stepped forward and inspected the mare's ear, a slight frown across her maw as she did so. The tiny creature did not sound pleasant at all, and the fact that it seemed to without a care cause pain to the mare made Shar not only dislike it greatly but feel sorry for the mare. "Does it lie? Or does it tell the truth?" Sharmila asked curiously. "Mama is always careful and cautious... Caution will make you scared, but will keep you safe."
.Tortured. .Pumpkin.

Cenotaph frowned. "I don't really know. All I know is it tells me things. And they aren't nice..." The shadow popped out of the mare's ear and made its way back to her shoulder. "I don't know about being cautious... I mean, I grew up with my parents... But I was always so scared of them. And the only one who helped me was my brother... And I didn't know what to do. Still don't. I'm alone and everything is so much scarier when you're alone."
Thamin

"Alone can be very scarry.... Very scarry indeed." She agreed softly. "Your brother is not around anymore?" Shar asked, disheartened even more.
.Tortured. .Pumpkin.

She frowned a little. "No, not anymore. I guess he figured that when I grew up I should be able to handle myself." She sighed. "But it's all right. Because I'm here, and I'm alive, and even though I get scared a lot, that's something, right?" A smile struggled through the mare's approaching tears. She felt crying in front of a stranger was in bad taste.
Thamin

Being there and alive was a good thing indeed, Sharmila had to agree with that fully. Despite the smile though Shar could see the extreme sadness that the mare. She was attempting to be optimistic, but Shar couldn't help but believe that the mare did not believe her own words. She was yet again at a loss. Perhaps it was because Sharmila always protected and watched over her mother, and perhaps it was because she could see so much of that timidness in the mare... But she could not shake the overwhelming want to make the mare before her happy and safe so she didnt have to be scared any more. But she knew nothing of the mare or the critter that accompanied her. What was there to loose though? The mare seemed genuine in every action and word thus far. "It is still not good to be alone..." Shar managed to get out. "If you would like...." She paused, wondering how to state what it was she wanted to ask. "Would you like company?" She finally settled on asking.

Cenotaph perked up a little, but didn't fully understand the question. "Well, you're already giving me company, right now." It took the mare another moment to realize that she didn't even know this mare's name. "Oh, I'm sorry. You've been so nice, and I haven't even told you my name. I'm Cenotaph. The little guy who creaps around doesn't have a name I don't think... All I know is that it's a he."
Thamin

Shar frowned as Cenotaph remarked about her already giving her company. It had not been her intentions at all. She searched her vocabulary for a better phrasing, and it turned out that simplicity in the statement worked better than attempting to use larger words. "I mean..." She started, trying not to fumble around with the question to the mare that was a practical stranger. "Would you like to stay with me and my mom?" She paused, realizing that she too had not mentioned her own name. ""It is nice to meet you Cenotaph..." She paused and looked to the shadowy creature. Though she didn't like him for his scary words and pain brought upon Cenotaph, but it was a pleasure to meet him. "And you too..." She added to the shadow. "My name is Sharmila."
.Tortured. .Pumpkin.

The mare's eyes widened at the invitation. "L-l-live? Like... Like a herd or something?" She'd heard of this horrible herd that had enslaved others, and she wouldn't like that at all. "Is... is there anyone else there with you?" Cenotaph's head began to spin and her heart began to race. Her thoughts ran wild and she didn't know what to do. It would be rude to say no, but what could happen if she said yes? For a moment, she seemed to snap out of it, and repeated the other mare's name. "Sharmila..."
Thamin

Sharmila couldnt tell if her question offended the mare, surprised her... She simply could not tell the reaction. She hoped that it was not negative. "No..." Shar said quietly as the mare asked about a herd. "No, not a herd. Mama wont join one." She admitted. "It is just me and my Mama... but... I figured some company would be better than living alone."She paused and hung her head for a moment, debating on whether or not to elaborate on their situation. She figured, if the mare was to live with them, she would find out sooner or later. There could be no harm in telling her - if she were to say no after finding out now then she would do so later on as well. "Mama... She had an accident a long time ago. For the longest time she thought she was a deer. Then she had me - She doesnt remember ever doing anything to have baskets, but she had me and two other baskets. She was terrified. Our baskets had shadows around them, like the one on your back. She ran away. When she came back I was the only one left." She paused and shrugged. "Mama was scared of me for the longest time, scared of my tail, but one day a fox was chasing her, scaring her, and when it saw me it ran away. Mama protected me when I was young, and now I protect her. She knows she is a soquili, tries her best to communicate, but she still is very deer like and doesn't know how to speak. She doesn't trust others, and would rather be safe than prey." She looked back up at the mare with a soft smile. "It is just us."

Cenotaph's heart ached for the mare and her mother when she heard the story. She wondered if that was how her family saw her: as a scared little creature that needed protection. "I... I'm sorry." A frown turned the corners of her mouth and the shadowed creature began its nasty tricks again. It was as if it could sense her moods and use them to its advantage. "Surely your mother would be frightened of me... I can look kind of scary sometimes." Her frown worsened. "I think..." She sighed and her eyes began to run. "I think that maybe it'd be better should I stay alone. I don't want to cause any trouble for you, and especially not for your mother."
Thamin

Sharmila frowned as the mare apologized - she couldnt see anything that the mare had done to apologize for. The frown turned into a perturbed grimace though as the shadowy being began to move once more. The mare before her, despite her obvious skittishness and fears, had to be very strong to be able to put up with the tiny being scurrying about all the time. But.... at the same time it was part of who she was, and without it... Well... Sharmila could only assume that many of the horrible things that the creature whispered very well could be true. While the creature may frighten the mare before her with it's tales, it very well could be the reason the mare had yet to befall a gruesome outcome - fear may keep one sheltered, but it kept them safe too. The thoughts passed from Shar's mind as the mare continued on, and Shar was honestly saddened by the mare's conclusion that it would be better to stay alone on her own. Slowly Sharmila stepped forward and wiped the tears from Cenotaphs eyes and cheeks. "You are right..." Sharmila started as she stepped back from the mare once more. "Mama would be scared.... At first. Mama was scared of me at first. But..." She dropped her gaze to the ground and poked at a few fallen leaves that littered it with her cloven hoof. "But mama isn't scared of me anymore. Once she saw that you weren't going to hurt her she wouldn't be scared of you either; I just know it." She raised her gaze once more with a soft shrug, trying to offer Cenotaph a smile as she did so. "I dont really see how having a friend and company can be trouble. Are you sure you don't want to come? Even for just a short while?"
