Promotion time. Meet me in room 5238 in 20 minutes.
Whenever Ro arrived, he would find Aria waiting for him. She looked up from the map in front of her, gesturing him to come closer. "Your objective," she began without preamble, "Is here." A gloved finger tapped a star circled in red. "More often than not, you're just going to be told that and sent on your way. Life's rough as a hunter, and the better prepared you are the longer you'll last. I'm going to let you ask five questions. Think carefully before asking them, as you're going out on the field as soon as we're finished here."

Roland felt his phone buzz. Shifting in his chair he stood up reading the message he would have twenty minutes to get what he needed then. Without stopping he went to gather what he was cleared to use from the runic equipment before arriving at room 5238 a pair of barrier daggers and runic bandages added to his kit.
Her lecture was straight forward and too the point, it was the ship mission all over again. No direction just a light warning and the blessing of five simple questions before he was sent on his way.
"I'm going to assume a bit here, but I'm guessing the objective is something we need to retrieve be it person or an artifact most likely. Do you have details on what the objective actually is?"
Aria had the decency to look abashed. "Did I say mission? s**t, sorry. I meant artifact retrieval mission. I should have specified that earlier." Aria sighed, shaking her head. "I've got too many things to do, and not enough time to do them all. Regardless..."
"Your target is to recover what we're calling 'Freyja's Debacle.' It's kept here in this labyrinth. You're going to go in, get it, navigate back here and deliver it." She tapped the map, adding, "Intel was enough to get this --"
"So we know the general area. All we know is that it's in a box, likely hidden away. Your weapon should be able to detect it if you tap it against the different boxes. It'll be the only one giving off a Fear signal."

Roland only offered a shrug at Aria's reaction. He didn't say anything else considering their last conversation had been over a broken desk and general disappointment.
"Seems forward enough, is there any kind of security or guards that we know of?" He was going to use his questions. He hoped that one didn't count as two.
Aria shook her head. "Mists are expected to be able to fill in any role at any point in time. While I encourage Mists to specialize in what two other divisions do, there may be a time where you are sent solo on the field. As this is your promotion mission, you will receive negative marks if backup is needed. If the s**t hits the fan too badly we can attempt to pull you out. While this is taking place in a somewhat controlled environment, there's never a guarantee for safety. Treat this mission like it could be your last."

Roland only nodded. That pretty much scratched two questions at the cost of one. No back-up today little Roland. He continued to study the map for a moment before pointing at two blocks of text on it.
"Before I go, what do those two notes say? It looks Asian but I don't know what type."
Aria shrugged. "Your guess is as good as mine. As I said, intel was able to get us a map... but whatever it says is anyone's guess. And with that, that makes it five." Aria reached into her coat and pulled out a stop watch, setting it before handing it over to Ro. "As soon as you pass through the portal, remember to start the timer. The portal will close behind you, and open again at the designated time. If you're not there when it opens, then we'll have to send someone in after you to your shame. There's no telling how long that can take, either. It could be as soon as we realize you missed the opening, an hour later, a week later, a month..." Aria trailed off, looking distant as she added, "Or even a full year."
She shook herself. "Regardless, you'll have one hour. Get in, grab it, get out. Report to the portal room immediately. They're expecting you and will portal you out."

Gathering the map he took the stop watch shrugging. "We need an artifact that can translate things. Could be something worth looking for later." A real Rosetta Stone? Anything was possible in their line of work.
"Get in, find the box, get to the exit in an hour." He checked the pocket watch one more time. He frowned at the remark about being stuck for a year, how long did it take them to get Jordan when he was trapped by the Horsemen?
"I'll make sure to be there." Checking his gear one last time he offered Aria a polite nod before making his way towards the portal rooms. The idea of failure brought shame indeed, and the hint of despair at the idea of spending time in a place like they all had when the Horsemen caught them trying to save Jordan.
The portal has dropped Ro off in a very dark place. Ro can catch sight of a coffee table with magazines on it next to a potted plant before the portal closes, taking thelight with it. Ro is now in a very dark place, and the clock is ticking.
THE TIMER Ro has 60 min to complete all these tasks. Treat this like an additional HP bar, except you're counting UP. ie, Ro starts with this:
Quote:
HP: 40/40 Timer: 0/60
When the timer hits 60/60, the portal back home is activated -- whether or not Ro has completed his mission or not! In order to complete the mission, Ro has to pass several stages:
STAGE ONE - LOCATING THE ARTIFACT
Roll 1d6 and match the results with the roll: Ro manages to crash into something large, heavy, and painful. Take 2 dmg, add 5min to your time as Ro not only needs to pick himself up, but also more or less rearrange whatever he crashed into back into place. Shortcut! Remove 3 min from your time. Cannot go over the cap. This looks... familiar. No change in time. Whereever Ro is, it isn't where he needs to be. Add 2min to Ro's time. Shortcut! Remove 3 min from your time. Cannot go over the cap. Silvya senses something! Ro is in the right area! Proceed to the next step.
STEP 2 - CHOOSE WISELY
With the glow of his weapon to aid him, Ro can see that his search has lead him to several shelves. These shelves are packed with heavy-looking bosses that are several inches wide and several feet tall. The weapon must be in here somewhere.
Roll 1d100. The closer your number is to 80, the closer Ro is to finding it. In order to pinpoint the box the weapon is in, Ro needs to roll a number between 75-85. Each time you roll, add 1 minute to Ro's timer.
Once you found it, proceed to the next step.
STEP THREE - RETRIEVAL
The box is difficult to remove from the shelf. It's large, heavy, and rather unwieldy to move. There's no time to open the box and go digging for it, not when Silvya is reporting that it's in several pieces. It'll be better to drag the entire thing back and sort it out in peace rather than risk leaving a part of it behind.
At least there's a cart nearby. Now to drag it back to the portal point.
...Where's the portal point again?
STEP FOUR - EXIT STAGE LEFT
Roll 1d12 and match your roll to the results. SON OF A B-- A corner was taken too tightly and the box spilled off the cart, crashing into something else which crashed into another thing then another thing... Ro can hear someone shouting. Shove the box back onto the cart and go hide! Add 15 min to the timer. All's quiet. Making good time, add nothing to the timer. Ow! Ro just managed to run over his own foot. Take -1 HP damage. Ooh, what's this? It's a neat little thingamajig. Add one ??? to Ro's inventory. This item will be revealed later. Ro is over come by a feeling of deja vu... add 5min to the timer. Shortcut! ... in the wrong direction. Add 2min to the timer. Shortcut! Remove 5min from the timer. Whoah, whoah, whoah. What is that? Add one ??? to Ro's inventory. This item will be revealed later. The wheel on the cart Ro is using begins to squick out and wheel the cart in the wrong direction. Add 1min to the timer while Ro fights it back into submission. Squelch. Whatever Ro just stepped on, it sounded gross. At least it's more than enough to encourage him to walk faster. Remove 5min from the timer. It's quiet... Almost too quiet. Except nothing happens. Ro successfully navigates his way to the portal point!
The next part will occur once Ro has finished the mission. If Ro's timer hits 60/60 or he has completed it, please quote me to let me know!
The portal didn't offer much in light, where ever he was sent it didn't seem too dangerous yet. Something like an office reception room maybe? The map did give a vibe of something like a gallery, or maybe an office place.
He didn't summon Sylvia just yet, nothing was near by that seemed a threat. (Unless articles about Justin Beiber where dangerous. Which they where. But not that deadly.) It was time to start the hunt, clicking the stopwatch he tucked it away before moving forward into the dark.
It was slow going at first, he was sure he had wasted some time already when getting his bearings. He had the map with him and just enough light to make out the rooms and the general path he would take to get to the marked location of the item.
It only took a few minutes but Sylvia perked up right away.
<< Roland stop. It's here, it's near by. Summon me I can act as a dowsing rod for the FEAR. >>
Nodding he stood up slowly from the low crouch he'd been moving about in. When Sylvia summoned into his hands a faint yellow glow from her runes would reveal walls and shelves full of boxes in every shape or size.
