This is a private RP between my soquili Devmani and Bhikkuni. No posting please and thank you.

Bhikkuni was confused. This was not the first time they had received visitors in the Padmapani territory. It was also not the first time she had seen strange creatures. To many she was quite the oddity herself and many of her cousins were no more normal than she. This was, however, the first time one of the strange visitors was claiming to by the ruler of the jungle. Could a single soquili even hope to control such a large expanse of land? It didn't seem possible to her but then, the world was full of impossible things. Being the welcoming soul that she was Bhikkuni had simply smiled through his explanation of who he was not even doing so much as raising an eyebrow at his claims.

It was when he explained what he was doing there that had thrown her. "Did you just say that you lost someone when she ran up a tree?"

Getting chased out of his homeland had been a most upsetting development for the jungle king. Even worse, he had needed to leave his precious Aditi behind. It had broken his heart. He had sworn he would return to get her when it was safe. As it had turned out there had been no need to make such a promise. He had found the cat again a week later eating a freshly killed bird. Devmani had been equal parts shocked and thrilled to see her. The cat had been largely indifferent to his presence but it seemed she had been following them the entire time. Once he, Uwasa, and Aditi had escaped he had been certain that everything would be fine. Aditi had other ideas. She had run off again.

Now out of danger Devmani had insisted that they put off returning to Uwasa's parents in favor of finding his beautiful ocelot. In the end the chase had brought them up into the mountains and into the heart of the Padmapani lands. He had not been remotely disturbed by Bhikkuni's unusual appearance when she had greeted him. She looked a good deal like the birds he enjoyed watching at home. It had made him feel secure and so he had launched into his explanation. She handled everything well until he mentioned that Aditi had run up a tree.

"Yes, yes, she's over that way." He said with his thickly accented voice nodding up a hill. "Uwasa's trying to coax the sweet dear down. I would fly to get her but your trees are so sharp I can't get close. Can you help?"

Bhikkuni was having a great deal of trouble understanding the situation. What had run up the tree? All she knew was it was named Aditi and it was refusing to come down. Was it a flutter perhaps? A shrunken flutter foal that was stubbornly refusing to come down. Anything bigger would surely snap the branches of a pine tree. Or maybe, she was a squirrel. A familiar that refused to follow orders. She had heard of stranger things. Kouichi had a bear that did not speak or look magical but still understood him perfectly.

"I...I will help if I can." Bhikkuni replied starting towards the hill he had indicated. She was more used to the pricks that came from a pine tree than he was for sure. She would probably be able to get closer than he was. Besides all of that, she really wanted to know who Aditi was.

"Wonderful!" Devmani exclaimed practically prancing along beside Bhikkuni. "She's the cutest little thing even if she is so stubborn. Once we retrieve her I will let you pet her some. Yes, that is a good reward!" Devmani continued babbling nonsense all the way to the tree that continued his cat. He saw Uwasa waiting below it looking a bit anxious. "Uwasa, my jewel! I have brought help!"

Bhikkuni only spared Uwasa a glance and a small bow in greeting before looking up into the tree. "...cat..."

Devmani smiled cheerfully not noticing the vacant way that Bhikkuni had spoken. "Yes, this is my jungle diamond: Uwasa the ocelot! She's quite the handful, though. Always running off and eating more than she needs." Devmani clicked his beak scornfully as he shook his head. "And now my precious darling has gotten herself trapped! She just looks so frightened doesn't she?" His amber eyes shifted to look at the colorful mare who was offering her assistance. She would fit right in in his homeland if she chose to. "Do you think you can get her down?"

Devmani's thickly accented voice was having a numbing effect on Bhikkuni's ears and brain. It was pleasant enough to hear but the way he kept babbling on and on about nothing important made it very hard to focus on what he was saying and not on the cat in the tree. She vaguely registered that Devmani was saying that the ocelot was frightened. Bhikkuni was no expert on cats but this one didn't look particularly frightened. Actually from the way the cat was sprawled on the branch and yawning now left Bhikkuni with the distinct impression that the cat was bored, not frightened. Dragged out of her cat watching by the stallion's question left Bhikkuni ruffling her feathers .

"I should be able to manage. I'm used to pine branches." She answered simply as she unfurled her magnificent wings. It was something of an understatement. Part of her training had involved purposefully hurling herself in the branches to get used to the feel of them in case she ever needed to fly through the trees during aerial combat or an escape. Taking a deep breath Bhikkuni said a quiet prayer to her gods before taking to the sky.

Devmani watched in utter fascination as Bhikkuni opened her wings. They were absolutely stunning. The plumage was all bright purples with just a tint of gold on the edges. Bhikkuni was a marvelous creature to behold almost as glorious as himself or the beautiful and wild feline named Uwasa that stood at his side. If he could have had his way he would have the fantastic winged serpent-horse Bhikkuni at his side as well. What an amazing king he would be then with such an exotic host of ladies following him about. Even without his jungle kingdom he would still garner respect from all that saw him.

Devmani had no chance to suggest her joining before she was air borne. If she had been lovely on the ground she was twice as lovely in the air. Her feathered mane blew back out of her face and her tail coiled and uncoiled in the currents of the air as she soared ever higher. "Uwasa...she must join us." He said though it was unclear if the pelted mare had heard him. If she had she didn't care.

Bhikkuni didn't like this. The conditions were not at all right for such a delicate rescue operation. If she hit the tree the cat might fall but each time she got close the wind seemed to pick up blowing her back. Rather than growing frustrated Bhikkuni evened out her breathing to find her serenity. She felt the wind passing around her and pressing against her. Slowly and gently she drew in closer to the cat and just as softly she reached out her tail and, like a snake, secured Aditi in a gentle coil. Her serenity vanished quickly as she felt the cat's teeth and claws sink into her tail.

Bhikkuni let out a startled yelp and squeezed her tail earning spitting and scratching protests from the ocelot. She relaxed her tail and offered an apology before descending to the ground a bit quicker than she intended. At least the cat was out of the tree even if her tail and the cat would not be thanking her for it. "I'm afraid I may have injured her." Bhikkuni confessed sadly to Devmani.

Devmani carefully freed his precious ocelot from Bhikkuni's tail with his talons. He held her as gently as he could while still keeping her firmly in his grasp lest she run off again. With a critical eye he looked the cat over and then smiled with a shake of a head. The cat was still snarling and growling like a devil had possessed it. "My darling Aditi is fine. She is only grumpy!" He explained good-naturedly as he coaxed the cat onto a place between his wings. She still hissed but didn't show any signs of escaping from his back so set his foreleg back to the ground.

Bhikkuni wasn't sure what to make of the display. The cat was as wild as they came but still it settled easily a top this stallion. "You have been blessed with a gift." Bhikkuni said in awe. "A gift of peace bringing." She wished that she had such a superb talent but her best efforts still didn't amount to much.

Devmani chuckled and rustled his wings proudly. At the hissing sound from his back he stilled. Aditi was still in a bit of a mood. He would have to bring her something extra delicious to make up for her poor treatment today. “I only bring peace because she respects me.” Devmani replied lightheartedly. “She respects the jungle king as one of its former denizens!” He chirped and thrust out his chest proudly making sure that his golden jewelry caught the light. “She could respect you too. Become one of my queens! You could travel with my darling Aditi and precious Uwasa! What a sight we would all be with your plumage, Uwasa spots and painted stripes and my royal heritage!” He grinned at Bhikkuni. “I would bow to be proper but that would only upset my darling. What says the beautiful winged serpent? Will you be my queen? You are too beautiful to leave hidden out here!”

Bhikkuni could feel the heat rising to her cheeks. To hear something like marriage being discussed with such a light heart was very strange. Stranger still that it was coming from a stallion that she’d only known for less than an hour’s half and it was being directed at her on top of it all! Her jaw slackened slightly as she sought for words to form a reply. Her first thought was that her father would likely chase this stallion off if he knew. Meanwhile Devmani would be lucky to get away from her mother alive. It wasn’t that they were over protective. It was just that such matters were serious business. They were only to be approached after knowing the other for long periods of time. Then there was the issue that he seemed to be keen on collecting other women to wed. She didn’t like that at all.

“I am flattered by your offer.” Bhikkuni said as diplomatically as she could. “However, I cannot find it in my heart to accept. My place is here with my herd, you see. We still need each other and I could not find reason to leave them just to go venturing. Not even with such a remarkable stallion.” It seemed like a good enough reply. Reasonable without insulting him at the least.

"Ah. It is alright beautiful winged angel." The golden stallion replied with just the faintest traces of a frown. Devmani was a little disheartened by the news but not heart broken. It had not been the first time he had been turned down. In all actuality Uwasa had also turned him down. She traveled with him for entirely different reasons. He had guided her around the jungle at first and now she helped him find his way around the outer world. Which reminded him, he had Aditi now. They needed to get to Uwasa's parents quickly before they started to worry.

"Dear winged jewel, would you know if we are anywhere near a bird station so that we might send word along? It is urgent you see."

Bhikkuni was relieved that he seemed to take it well. She wasn't sure exactly how to handle a heart broken stallion. The wisdom of their gods didn't seem to do much comfort for those that were not deeply spiritual to begin with and she didn't get the feeling that Devmani was particularly devout to any religion at all.

Then, like a sun rising, everything became somewhat clear. The jeweled stallion, the wild cat, and the strange mare just turning up in the middle of Padmapani territory when clearly they belonged in the heart of the jungle. They were the missing contacts of Lorenna's network. Quietly Bhikkuni thanked all the great gods and her ancestors for bringing the members safely to Padmapani.

"Yes, yes you are very near a bird station. We have many here. Please, come this way. I'll take you to the closest." Bhikkuni smiled inwardly. She had been sent to this spot today to ensure that those three were found safely. She was certain of it.

It didn’t take long for Bhikkuni to lead Devmani to a tree full of birds. Devmani recognized a few of them as birds that had come to Uwasa during her time in the jungle. He selected one of those to carry a simple message to the hot springs and Uwasa’s family. The bird was to say simply: Uwasa and friends are safe in Padmapani. Will return to hot springs shortly. Once Devmani okayed the message with Uwasa they sent the bird on its way. Then, with Uwasa’s insistence, they sent a second bird to head east in case Lorenna was on the other side of the mountains. They needed her to know that the network had been compromised if she didn’t know already.

With that done Devmani thanked Bhikkuni for all of her help.

“You’re welcome to stay and rest for a while if you wish.” Bhikkuni said as the two sent off their final bird. “We have more than enough room for friends of the herd. The birds will get word quickly enough. You don’t need to worry about leaving people in the dark now.” Bhikkuni did feel somewhat conflicted to be suggesting that they ignore whatever duties they might have just to rest their legs. She felt they deserved the rest though and also thought it would be rude to just not offer.

“Thank you, but we’ve been delayed long enough.” Uwasa said calmly giving Devmani a look.

Devmani nodded in consent. “We must be going. We will not forget you winged serpent!” He called as he, Uwasa and Aditi headed west for Uwasa’s home.
