Hobbies:
Drumming: Darren plays as a Drummer in a metal cover band called Bloody Dragon Sons. During the school year he also is part of the school’s drum line. Drumming is one of his passions, he takes it very seriously and he always is seeking to improve.
Sewing: Band outfits got to come from somewhere – though truthfully this is one of those hobbies he tries to hide. He knows the other guys in the band would give him hell for it as well as anyone else who knows him.
Larping: This hobby is another closely guarded secret. There is a reason Bloody Dragon Sons only plays gigs every other week – because every other week their drummer is out “visiting his grandma.” Really, he’s attending a local LARP event held by his league. It’s a nice escape from reality for him.
Virtues:
Empathetic: Darren is usually a good listener – especially with girls. Having grown up in a girl heavy household, he’s learned a thing or two about how girls think and act when they’re upset and what works and doesn’t work to calm them down. He’s no expert – and his empathy isn’t just limited to girls, but he tends to more easily relate to girls and their problems than other guys. He can be very sensitive to people’s feelings in general – but he is much keener to act on it with girls.
Dependable: When Darren says he’s going to be somewhere he tries his best to be there. That’s not to say he isn’t sometimes late for things – unforeseen things happen and they can cause delays. But he does try his best to make sure if he is running late – or if someone is expecting him that he gets in touch with them so they know he’s running behind. He isn’t one to turn down a chance to help someone out – especially if he knows they need it. He is a favorite amongst his bandmates because they know that if they need a hand – he’ll be there to help them out – be it at a gig or with their homework or even chores at home. This extends to all his friends – just not his bandmates. This isn’t without its problems though – he has a hard time knowing when he should say no, and sometimes he bites off more than he can chew. He’s not afraid to admit if he screwed up – but all the same he’s not about to take heat for something he didn’t do.
Open: Darren isn’t afraid to get to know new people – in fact – that’s how he makes the majority of his friends. He’s also not one to hide things about himself – he’s a pretty open book, unless he’s trying to hide something embarassing. It’s a rare day when Darren doesn’t want to talk about what’s going on in his life – and he’s pretty open to doing pretty much anything anyone else wants to do. He’s also quite interested in hearing people’s ideas – even if they differ from his own.
Flaws:
Over Protective: Darren gets a bit overzealous protecting his family and friends. He’s actually gotten in a lot of trouble at school backing his sisters up. He has gotten several suspensions for fighting because some boy or girl said the wrong thing about his sisters or one of his friends. He doesn’t care though – he’ll punch you out if you bad talk his family and friends – or if you hurt them.
Doesn’t know when to quit: Darren lacks that important little mental warning that tells you to quit when you’re ahead. He is apt to digging himself deeper and deeper into trouble, even if someone is trying to cover for him. It’s not that he can’t shut up – he can – he just isn’t one to let something go unresolved or allow others to accept punishments that are not theirs. If he is innocent though – he will fight to the death to prove it. You could call him stubborn – but that’d be an understatement. He’s actually gotten into a lot of trouble in class when he doesn’t agree with a teacher’s assessment of something – or if they’re just plain wrong. It’s reached the point where he was almost suspended for being insubordinate before his parents stepped in and made him apologize. His bandmates put up with his pushiness because he’s a good drummer and he goes out of his way for them – but there are times where they put him in check at band meetings. If people can get past his pushiness – they’ll come to find he’s actually not half bad.
Dirty Little Secrets: While Darren for the most part is an open book – he is apt to hide anything that he feels is embarrassing. He doesn’t handle embarrassment well, often getting really flustered and having to leave the situation in order to calm down. He finds it easier just to hide the embarrassing things from other people who don’t understand them than try and make them understand why he enjoys them. His biggest fear is that people will view him differently if these secrets get out – that they’ll think he’s a sissy or a nerd. He hasn’t quite come to grips with the fact that what others thing of him isn’t the be all end all. If people start digging, he starts to become more withdrawn and quiet – which of course wave a red flag that something is up and tends to make people dig more. It’s a horrible cycle – he’s actually lost friends over not telling them his secrets. He hates that he is so shy about it – but at the same time, he’s afraid word will get around and people will just point and laugh at him.
