"Hrm..." Lessia was in a good mood. She's had a great run earlier in the day, culminating with a successful kill and a great meal. She wouldn't need any meat for at least a week, which meant she ought to be able to catch up with her buddy Seyx here soon. Seyx was a good egg, willing to go along with Lessia on whatever adrenaline rush she felt like pursuing, but he was both a pure herbivore and a pacifist. While he understood Lessia's need for meat, he felt no interest in sharing the experience with her. Consequently, every time Lessia needed to hunt, Seyx would take off. This had been a successful hunt, much shorter than usual. Lessia had already bathed and cleaned herself, so there were no signs of blood on her pristine white coat. She was ahead of 'schedule', as it were, and that was always a novelty. Should she go find Seyx? Nah, there would be time enough for that later. For now, she'd just see what the forest the brought her!

It didn't take Alla long to discover that she had made a mistake coming into the forest alone. That she had ever thought this was a good idea was a mystery to her. An hour into her journey and she was already cold, wet, tired, and hungry. Her long mane and tail feathers were constantly getting caught on things. The only thing stopping her from going back home was the knowledge that her mother would be there waiting with a smug look on her face. Well, that and the fact that she was lost. There were very few moments in her life that Allaminar was disappointed that she did not inherit her mother's wings, but this was definitely one of them. How easy it would be just to fly above the trees and find her way back. Alla took a deep breath. "No need to dream right now, just focus. What do I need.... water, and shelter." She tried to remember what her uncle had taught her about finding water. Closing her eyes, she listened for any hint of a stream or river near by.

As she ambled along, Lessia ran her spaded tail tip over her teeth. It was always annoying to have little bits of things caught in her teeth, whether they were composted of animal or vegetable. After all, nothing ruined a smile like a blop of something caught between two front teeth! And Lessia was a big smiler; life had always been a positive thing for her, and that positive life had made her a big smiler. Perhaps it was a little unnerving for those she met, but Lessia firmly believed a friendly smile went a long way in establishing friendly relations with others.
And on the subject of others...
The sound of a voice among the trees caught Lessia's attention, and she lowered her tail as she grinned (teeth free from any kind of food remains!). How lovely, the possibility of company! The speaking hadn't lasted very long, but she was able to get at least a rough estimate of what direction to go. It didn't sound like the speaker had been too far away...
Lessia could be stealthy when she wanted to be, but long experience had taught her that sneaking up on anything in the woods tended to be a bad idea. So as she trotted along, she called out merrily, "Lovely day to be out in the forest, wouldn't you say?"

Allaminar froze. She had never met a kalona before, but she had certainly heard about them. Her uncle had told her that not all kalonas are evil, but never to underestimate them. Silently she thanked her mother for her talons.
"It could be a little less muddy, but my mother taught me never to be unthankful for rain." She kept the conversation cheery, and away from the fact that she is lost.
Getting closer to the strange soquili, Allaminar took a moment to look the kalona over. Horns, fangs, sharp claws on the wings, and those eyes. Alla's mother and uncle both had solid purple eyes, but these eyes were different. They looked as if she could see into Alla's soul. She was afraid to look directly at them.

Lessia's eyes were unusual, even in her own family. None of her siblings, her parents, or any of her grandparents sported the super-pale eyes that set Lessia apart. To most people, Lessia's eyes appeared to be pure white, an unsettling look when paired with the black markings around them and her long, often-tangled red hair. As a matter of fact she DID have pupils, they were just very, very pale.
Being used to her own appearance, Lessia could easily forget the effect that she could have on others. Unlike most of her siblings, Lessia carried every kalona trait and no wind traits. From the tips of her spiked wings to the tips of her cloven hooves, she looked the part of the vicious, full-blooded kalona.
Still, it was amazing how quickly she could forget that fact.
She was pleased to have stumbled upon a new face, particularly one as interesting as this mare. For all that she'd seen her fair share of the Soquili lands, she'd never seen a Soquili with such unusual feet and muzzle. She was curious how far this mare had traveled to come here, and whether there were more like her. But that was all beside the point, for now. One mustn't be rude, after all!
"Personally, I like the mud. It makes a good surface for skidding, cushions any falls, and provides comfort on hot days. Not that today is too hot, but when you've got a tendency towards sunburning like I do, you tend to be acutely aware of such things." Grinning, she offered the other mare a wing in greeting. "I'm Lessia."
