Maiko had a brother four years older than her named James. Together the four lived a happy life. Maiko was a bright and beautiful child who enjoyed reading and playing pranks with his brother. She did well in school, and began taking fencing lessons when she was seven. However, things turned bad when Maiko's dad developed an addiction to gambling after losing his job due to the global scale recessions. He began borrowing money from dirty people, and the family was put into a huge debt. Eventually, the large amount of money that Duke owed caused him to die in the hands of mobsters, and Maiko's brother was put in charge the family. Marie - Maiko's mom, soon became ill over the events and could no longer work. This all happened before Maiko's twevlth birthday.
Due to the fact Marie's illness rendered her incapable of taking care of her children, and Maiko's brother had not reached adulthood at that time, the two were taken and separated by social workers. It would be many years before Maiko would hear from her family.
It wasn't long before Maiko was brought to an orphanage until a foster family was found for her. After staying a the orphanage for a few weeks, she was moved to live with a rich foster family. There she stayed for two years, and all seemed well. She continued fencing, something she was good at, and excelled in school. However, this was all just a disguise. Maiko had always been a bright and daring girl. A week after her fourteenth birthday, she disappeared. One might find it hard to believe that a teenager would have the guts to leave a comfortable home for a life on the streets, but she did. Having experienced what she had, Maiko viewed the world with disappointment. Although she had lived a peaceful life with her foster family, she was not happy with the way things were in her life.
Maiko was a charming girl who was good at manipulating people. Moreover, she was clever, and understood the ways of the world. With the help of men who had roots in organized crime, she was given a new identity: Astrid, an eighteen year old waitress aiming to become famous on stage.
And so Maiko began to work at a small but popular cafe. It wasn't long before her beauty was noticed by males, and in a short period of time she was spending nights with a dozen different important men. There were politicians, company owners, and even a few who had connections with royalty. Maiko, who had steeled her heart against love when she was a child, lived for a few years stealing money off of these men by acting as their mistress. While doing so, she would also charm these men into telling her national secrets which she sold to those who asked - be it the government or underground groups. She soon became famous with powerful people, who would hire her for information.
And so Maiko lived a life of constant danger. She was a coward - one who didn't mind blackmailing in order to receive what she wanted. She was hated, admired, and feared by many, and never stayed in one place for long. However, she did not regret her choices. Due to the fact she was born with a bright and daring nature, the only way she feels satisfied and happy with her life is if she is in constant danger .
A couple of years passed, and Natasha found herself in a rather compromisng position. Sleeping and gathering information from important men meant having enemies that were high up in the government. With no one to turn to (She operated alone.) Maiko disguised her identity, covered her tracks, and decided to lay low for a while.
However, news soon reached the young woman regarding the ruins of the past war. It occurred to her that spending some time in some military related issues might not be so bad. If she chose the right faction, there was possiblity that she could become rich or gain position. Money and power were things she cared deeply about. Although the people who were after her were associated with the military, she supposed that the closer she was to her enemies, the safer she would be. Thus, under her new identity as Natasha Simmons (Being of mixed heritage, the identity was passable.), Maiko joined the faction that would be of most use to her at the moment.
