Jordan had swung by the labs on his way to lunch to bring Rep his reading glasses. The cold that had ambushed everyone who'd been on that mission yesterday had made the rest of the day and the next morning rather cranky, but by now Jordan could feel the scratchiness and congestion clearing out of his head, courtesy of Ferros.

Nothing is allowed to feed on you except me, the weapon grumbled as he felt Jordan's thoughts angling toward the subject.

Jordan laughed. That would be creepy if you didn't love me so much. Parasite.

Parasite that is making your cold go away, Ferros said primly, but his thought was warm, amused, affectionate.

Really, Quinn had only just been introduced to the labs recently.. not enough to know his way around. He had yet to have the full introduction, so he felt even a bit weird being in here. That would not stop his curiosity though. Science had always interested him, but he still was not as knowledgable enough to know his way around just of yet. The more seasoned life hunters allowed him around, only not to touch anything.

Least he not break anything right? Though he was supposed to be here and learn their ways, the new coat that dangled off his shoulders with the tree symbol to signify that point to everyone.

It did not help that anyone who was on the promenade seemed to have a cold. All around him, himself including in the choir sometimes, the sounds of coughs and wheezes dominated the silence. Oddly he felt as if his cold was worse than others, feeling a bit dizzy more often than not. He was not one to whine about sickness to total strangers though, so he kept his complaints to himself.

That was around the time he found himself literally bumping into someone. He had meant to walk past him, but oddly enough he found his dizziness misjudging the distance he required. He paused for a second, opening his mouth to apologize on instinct, but rather pathetically only a cough came out. He turned his head away. "S-sorry about that." Once recovered enough to look up at the hunter, was around the time he realized this hunter was one he had met before. "Michael?"

Someone bumped into him, and Jordan automatically put a hand out to steady the other guy as he started coughing. He'd have expected that the chorus would have died down by now, but he'd forgotten that experience and more time spent with your weapon meant that the bond deepened and you got over things faster. So the newer trainees were still dragging around miserably. "It's fine. You okay?" he asked.

Then the guy greeted him with the name he'd been using on the mission, and he remembered that they'd talked briefly yesterday, and he'd been trying not to blow his cover, pointless as that had ultimately turned out to be. "That was the name on the boarding papers," he said. "My name's actually Jordan. Nice to meet you again."

"Oh." Was his reply to the new name he was given, filing that away for later he mentally smacked himself around a second later. "Wait so we were supposed to be using fake names?" Whoops, no one really told him that.

"...Was the red head next to you, Rep, a fake name too then?" The name sounded far too unique really to be a alias. "Crap I'm going to have to try and relearn names all over again then." Was Ian the one guys real name? Dory? Candace? Ami?

This was all just too damn confusing.

Jordan looked pained. "Rep is a nickname, but it's the name he uses here. I wasn't using his alias because he would have started laughing instead of listening to me, seeing as how his alias was d**k. I blame Life Division for the aliases - uh," he paused, remembering where he was and that the guy he was talking to was Life, "no offense intended, of course."
PostPosted: Thu Jun 20, 2013 4:04 pm

Oh, okay. So at least he now new Rep and Jordans' names, so he wouldn't be floundering like too much of an idiot.

Though at the name 'd**k' he could not stop the snort of laughter that followed. Oh that was just too funny. Maybe Quinn was in the right division after all...

"...None taken, really. Im so new here i don't even know any other lifers." Which was rather sad to be frank.

Or at least he thought he didn't know any others.

Jordan's mouth quirked into a smile. "Okay, it is funny," he conceded, "but less so when I was trying to keep us from looking suspicious, futile as that ultimately was."

"You'll get to know people soon enough," he said. "Actually, Rep's in Life. I was here to bring him something." Quinn didn't need to know about Rep having transferred; he left that out.

"OH." That term really seemed to be slowly turning in to Quinns catch phrase, using it more often than not when surprised. He looked up at Jordan with almost suspicious eyes, but quickly brushed it off. It was just a surprise, the red head didn't seem the type for life. Ah well, Jordan really wouldn't lie right? "Rep? Really? He didn't really strike me as the lab rat type!" But hey man it was a good sign, he actually knew someone in life then.

Ask.

"Okay so a little off topic..." Oki still made the guy fidget whenever his attention was directed at him fully, so Jordan would most certainly see him twitch. "I have some questions if you dont mind..." He better take notes. "One sec." His disappeared for a moment, turning away into the catacomb of labs until he could grab a clip board and a pen. Returning a short time later, he heaved out a breath, followed shortly by a cough as he tried to regain his composure. "Okay. On the ship you guys mentioned a golem, what IS that?"

"You never know," Jordan said, and left it at that. He wasn't explaining the division transfer and the reasons for it to the fresh meat. "Wait till you meet Robert and Leon," he added, with a touch of humor.

"I don't mind questions," he replied, and tucked his hands into his pockets as he waited for Quinn to reappear. The question surprised him, and he blinked. Why wasn't Quinn asking a more senior Life hunter? Maybe he didn't want to bother them. "Golems are artificially created bodies that can have a consciousness projected into them," he explained. "They're made of earth and powered by runic magic. They can look like a rough approximation of humans, or like an identical copy, or like Halloweeners. Uh - do you remember your trials? The gas masks and suits? That was a C-class golem you were wearing for that. Those are the kind we use for hazardous jobs or training, like Deathsweeper."
PostPosted: Sat Jun 22, 2013 11:39 am

"...That wasn't just a dream?" He blurted out, looking up from his notes, at the mention of being in a golem for the trials. He thought the entire time he spent out there they were just some sort of mental dreamscape, a hallucination.

"No wonder it felt so real in there, really. Okay so. I guess this question is... rather newbie-esk. I was taken out of the pods and given a very, very quick run down of everything. Practically nothing really. Pretty much a 'hi, welcome to deus, heres your room and uniform, dress fancy and get ready to leave.'

Do you mind explaining the jobs of the divisions to me to start?"

"Real enough. It's why it felt so vivid," Jordan nodded. "Bonding with a weapon requires that the human half of the bond be in a state close to death. Dying in a golem convinces your mind that you're dead or almost dead, while your body is in stasis. That's how it was explained to me, anyway."

His eyebrows went up at the explanation of exactly how new Quinn was. "Sure. Uh, do you mind if I get a cup of coffee real quick?" If he doubled back to the break room near 2C, he could get a cup he was pretty sure wasn't experimental.
PostPosted: Sat Jun 22, 2013 12:36 pm

"...So the only way to have the weapons minds bond with ours is to practically be 'dead'?" That was real eye opening. It reminded him of some of the werewolf lore he read once. In order for the gene to take over the man, the man has to be practically dead and then somehow live.

Freaky.

"Oh! Yes sure. Lead the way?" Quinn had not yet been initiated into the wonders of the life coffee testing yet. He followed after Jordan, not really knowing where to get coffee at truly anyways.

"It makes sense to me. It's a liminal state in which the mind is more open to influence and change," Jordan said. Then he shrugged. "Don't take that as gospel, though. I don't know the details, so I'm extrapolating from what I do know. Ask someone more familiar with the process."

He nodded and turned back the way he'd come, backtracking down a hall and around a corner to a break room he knew the techs in this section used regularly. While that didn't absolutely guarantee that the machine or the cups hadn't been tampered with, it made it less likely; in Jordan's experience, experimental coffee was taken somewhere besides the labs so as not to interrupt ongoing work.

He checked the mugs anyway, because the recent bout of half-invisibility had been disconcerting. "You want some?" he asked Quinn, once he'd determined to his satisfaction that the cups were safe.
PostPosted: Sun Jun 30, 2013 11:35 am

"Oh no it does make sense, its just borderline frightening that we had to be almost dead for it to work. But i guess the minds barriers are stronger than I thought..." There was certainly some sort of 'magic' involved. Or runic, or whatever they were babbling about at times in life labs.

He followed Jordan almost silently now, memorizing where this break room was. At least if anyone here asked him to get them a drink he would know where to go right?

He inwardly frowned at the coffee, trying his best not to show that he really didn't like the gross liquid that much. "Only if theres a lot of milk and sugar..." He could drown it in sugar and it would help the taste yes?

He reached over and grabbed a cup, a second later grabbing the sugar dispenser. He would make sure Jordan had his coffee before bombarding him with questions again.

"If you think about it, so do they," Jordan pointed out. "The bond seems to take better on some pairs than others, though."

He poured a cup of coffee for himself, then one for Quinn, the second one with considerably less coffee in it to leave room for more milk and sugar than he considered polite. "I'd be offended if it was my stash," he said, "but it's just break room coffee, so sugar away."

He leaned against the counter and sipped at the coffee, grimacing briefly. Judging by the taste, this one had been sitting on the burner for some time. Still, it was coffee. "Okay, divisions. Basic breakdown is as follows: Life is research and development, provides medical support and runic equipment. Death is information gathering, recon, and general tactics and planning. Sun is front-line offense, combat specialists. Moon is combat defense and general defense, they do most of the repair and construction around here. Mist fills in for any role in the field. They don't specialize and they train in a little of everything. Sun and Moon function as a unit most of the time. Life and Death are supposed to do the same, but I gather that there's more tension there than is totally healthy." He took another sip of the terrible coffee. "In theory, everyone works together, but in practice there's interdivision politics, what else is news, right?"
