Having pretty much gone straight from the training fields to Gnat's door with only the tiniest of pit stops in between, the smaller girl's eyes still maintained a reddish tinge as she knocked on her friend's door. She'd returned to her dorm, taken one look around, grabbed a pillow, and had marched her sorry a** down the hall. Now she waited, hugging the pillow to her chest, half expecting Gnat to be mad at her as well.
And really, she couldn't blame the other woman.. As much as she could repeat over and over that she would have gone back to pull Evan to safety had he started to go under, it didn't really change much. Her grip on the pillow tightened, and she dropped her chin so she could bury her face in the top of it. It wasn't as if she hadn't been protecting Lucky during the fights, and she'd certainly placed herself between Gnat and captain. She was loyal, she'd just.. slipped.
She sighed, shoulders rounding, and wondered if maybe she should just go back to her own room.

There was a wall of silence, and then eventually the door opened a crack -
"Oh, hey Pey." Gnat opened it the rest of the way. "Salt water got ya in th' eyes, huh? Well, don't jus' stand there," she motioned for her, moving back to make room for the smaller trainee. "I wasn't doin' anything important. What's up?"

The stretch of quiet the followed her knock was almost enough to have the smaller trainee turning around to walk away. Maybe she could find Lucky, she did want to talk to him.. But no, the door opened, and Peyton lifted her head to look up at Gnat through the door, features crumbling just a little around the edges at the mention of salt water having gotten in her eyes. If only. Still, she appreciated Gnat giving her an excuse for the tears. Later maybe she'd mention what they were really from, but not now. The door opened wider, and the girl shuffled into the room, still hugging the pillow to her chest. It was big enough, and her small enough, that she almost disappeared behind it. "I, er.. Well." Oh ya, something was definitely eating at the trainee. "We're both sick anyways, I figured maybe we could be horrible company for each other?" She recalled when she was younger, and she and her sister had been sick at the same time. Her dad had always stuck both girls in the same room, hoping to contain the germs to a smaller location.

Gnat gave her a bleary once over before nodding.
"I feel like I got hit by a truck." She paused. "A truck full o' trucks," she corrected, groaning. She shoved some dirty laundry around on the floor and off the bed, eventually making a pile near her closet door.
"I been swimmin' in th' ocean before and never felt this bad," she commented, climbing back into the bed to sit at it's foot. She patted the mattress next to her invitingly. "Well, c'mon, I won't bite." Gnat grinned, a ghost of her usually more mischievous self. "For now."

"I know how you feel," she offered thickly. Her body ached, her head hurt, and her pride had been thoroughly shattered. All in all she felt like s**t. But at least gnat was talking to her. That was something. That was a big something. She waited as the other girl shoved things around, then crawled onto the bed beside her with her pillow bundled into her lap so she could lean against it. "If you bite me I'll slug you." Her tone didn't carry the same promise of violence that it normally did when she threatened someone. Instead she sounded tired. "I've felt worst then this before." A lot worst, actually, just not recently. "But this is pretty bad."

"Heh, we done that dance before. It stung," she replied, rubbing her cheek in mock pain. "Fear shields, protectin' us from stabbing, fire, an' tentacle monsters, but can't keep out the common cold." After a few moments longer, Gnat gave the other woman a sidelong glance. "So." She tried to think of how to put it diplomatically, and then gave up. "You look like someone told you your dog died. What's up?"

Peyton chuckled, laying her cheek on her pillow. "Yeah we did. Can't deny it was fun though." She'd happily jump back in the ring against Gnat. The taller girl had a nice right hook. "I know right? What the hell." Warrick gave a disgruntled snort, but Peyton merely chuckled, though it was short lived as Gnat asked about her current distress. It made her frown, and she sighed as she clutched the pillow all the tighter to her chest. "Evan and I had a little talk." Understatement. "It didn't go very well." Bigger understatement.v"He's really upset with me." Biggest ******** understatement of the year.

"Oh?" Eyebrow waggle. "Yeah, he can get a little...fiesty."
Hazy grin of remembrance.
"What happened?" She grabbed her own pillow and sat it in her lap, propping her elbows up on it and chinhandsing at Peyton with a cherubic expression.

Pale eyes leveled on Gnat, searching her face before dropping back to the pillow in her lap. She wasn't sure how much to say. Gnat was her friend, but She and Evan had something going on. She didn't know how serious it was, but it wasn't her place to put any strain on what they had. It was quiet for a moment as she contemplated how much to share, then she sighed and looked down at her hands, small fingers smoothing over her opposite palm. "He found me in the cafeteria and escorted me out to the training field." Should she mention the dummy? probably not.. "He expressed upon me his feelings on the situation, and I apologized." She kept her eyes down. "I'm sure you can imagine how intimidating he can be." It wasn't much as far as details went, but it explained things alright. Maybe not how Evan had dragged her out of the cafeteria by her shirt, or had then hung her on a dummy so her feet dangled uselessly. Certainly it didn't cover the not-quite-a-threat, or the fact he'd left her there hanging by her sweater, or that she'd had to take it off just to get down, and hadn't been wearing much of anything under it. No, it certainly hadn't covered any of that, but that was personal, between Evan and herself, and she wasn't going to drag Gnat into it.
