Heinrich still felt like an alien in his own skin. It had been years since his carefree life of a little bunny-sized Wolpertinger has been wrenched from him, and he found himself transformed into this hideous, lumbering monster. He thought by now he would be used to it; perhaps even liking it? But no, he still felt like such an outcast. There was no good reason for him to feel this way - in his journeys he had seen all kinds of Soquili of every shape and size.
But they were all born that way. They didn't have a happy life as a carefree critter that was just gone one day in a poof of bad judgement. No, he was still a stranger in these lands, and he wondered idly as he walked along the path, if it would ever be any different for him.

Sirius was in his feral form, lurking and laying in wait. He felt his stomach rumbling as he sniffed along the ground, hoping to pick up a scent. He hadn't had a big kill in weeks - surviving off small game such as rats and ground birds for the most part. They did the job - he was still alive - but the lack of a good, bloody, large kill didn't satisfy him. He was craving something more than food - he was craving the skinwalker pleasure of wresting the life out of another Soquili; feeling them squirm and twist in his jaws.
To his delight, a scent crossed his nose. Someone was close: just ahead up the game trail. He felt his stomach turn and growl at the dizzying thought of a kill. He crouched low to the ground and began to follow the scent; pickung up his pace but making an effort to stay hidden in the brush.

Lost in his own thoughts, vonCoren didn't notice there something following him before it was probably too late. He was broken from his musing when a scent drifted over his nose: a rancid, putrid smell. He blinked and crinkled his nose; shaking his head in disgust. Something must have died... he thought to himself and turned his eyes to the sky. He had expected to see vultures circling up ahead, but no... the skies were clear.
Growing a bit suspicious now, he lifted his large, rabbit-like ears. They swiveled as the sound of a twig snapped. Something was definitively out there...he just didn't see what.

Sirius was happy to find his quarry just up the trail. This was quite a delicious looking Soquili; he seemed to resemble a giant rabbit with cerynei antlers. His mouth began to water at the thought of eating this big, giant bunny. It would be a satisfying meal indeed...
Sirius made ready for the attack. Launching out of the bushes, the large wolf attacked from behind. He dug his claws into the skin of the beast's legs and bit down hard on the meaty part of his launch, locking his jaw and catching the ground with his back paws.

Before he could make a run for it, a horrible, stinking beat bursts forth through the trees and bit down hard on his hindquarters. His heart leaped in a fit of panic - he was surely done for. No wolpertinger could survive such a brutal wolf attack! He felt the skin rend under the vice-like jaw of the wolf and he cried out. Instinct seemed to come over him, and he began to buck wildly, pitching forward on his hooves and stomping hard back on his rear legs. His skin was peeling under the claws and teeth of the wolf, and in his flailing, vonCoren batted at him with his head, feeling his antlers catch the animal. With a might thrust forward, vonCoren dislodged the beast and launched him over his head in a fit of adrenaline.

Sirius let out a yelp as the antlers gored into his skin. In a rough jerk from the stocky stallion, he was ripped off the prey and hurled onto the ground several feet in front of him. He landed hard, giving a yelp of pain as he bit the dust. Angered, he knew it was time to fight fire with fire. Unsure now if he could bring down his quarry in his feral form, Sirius let out a roar and transformed into his full skinwalker form.

VonCoren's jaw dropped open as the beast transformed in front of him, turning from a wolf into a full-sized horse, a rotting, stinking pelt thrown over his back. He had only heard distant rumors of these kind of beasts roaming the land, but never had he seen one - especially not with his own blood dripping from his mouth. Something primal seemed to snap into place inside him, and VonCoren reared up on his hind legs, ignoring the pain flaring up from his wounds, and charged; his antlers down and aiming for his face.

Sirius readied himself for the impact as he saw the stallion racing towards him. He lurched forward, trying to bend his head under and snap at his jugular, but his misjudged the antlers and felt them make contact. One caught under his front leg, and the other scraped painfully across his face. He winced and roared his displeasure, throwing his weight backwards and kicking out with his front hooves. He felt his hoof make contact with his head and continue to writhe, trying to free himself from the antlers of his foe.
One of the giant rabbit's ears came within biting range and he didn't pass on the opportunity to clamp down on it.

VonCoren bellowed in pain as the monster's teeth came down and clamped on his ear. He jerked his head instinctualky back, wincing has he felt the tug on his head; the shape-shifter wasn't letting go. He twisted and writhed under him, throwing his bulk. His nose stung with the horrible, rotting stench of Sirius' pelt. He finally felt his antlers catch again until the front legs of the beast and, focusing his strength, pitch his head back in one strong motion.
The rotting beast was air born, flipping over the stallion's head and losing his drip on the bunny-like ear: but not before rending the top few layers of sensitive skin of. vonCoren steeled himself against the pain, for now, quickly readying himself to continue the fight.

Sirius grunted as he landed hard on the ground. He tasted the foe's blood in his mother and let it linger in his throat. He slowly made his way up on his feet, but as soon as he looked up, he saw this opponent pawing the ground, his antlers poised and at the ready.
He had underestimated this stallion; though he was loathe to admit it. But better to turn tail and flee to hunt another day. He was embarrassingly out of practice, perhaps he should start with a little foal somewhere. But if this beast kept goring him, he's be back to scavenging.
With a growl, he spit the stallion's blood on the ground, then ran into the thorny underbrush.

VonCoren was surprised when his enemy began to run. He didn't dare chase after him, it wasn't worth it. But still, in a way it was as till a victory for the Wolpertinger - which was a concept wholly unfamiliar to the once tiny and meek beast. As a prey animal, you generally had to run away to survive - the idea of actually defending yourself and winning... that was a foreign concept.
For the first time since he was transformed into this larger form, VonCoren was relieved. He snorted in the direction Sirius has fled and head his head up higher than usual. He hadn't come out unscathed: he was bleeding from several cuts and gashes and he smelled almost as horrible as his attack had, but for now, until he found a river or unicorn, he would walk with his chest puffed out.
