The prisoners taken by Trine during the Wherholder missions are being held in metal cages under guard by dragon and wher alike. They have little room to move or eat and are exposed to the tropical elements with very little shade, on display for all to see. There are two cages.
However, the Wherhold isn’t one to leave their kin behind and have arranged a rescue attempt. The plan is as follows: The dragons will lead with an Aerial Distraction to draw off dragons and drop off the ground troups to go unlock the cages and hold off the Whers and humans. Once unlocked, the prisoners will be lead to an open space where dragons will pick them up and take them to safety.
Cage 2 Kesin - Meep D'lek - Alethryia Mokah - Mewrose Dina - Meep Harmony - Tawny
Instructions
- This begins just after Trine has begun its rescue attempt at Benden. Any character at Trine who is not on that mission may be played, as may any wherholder who would IC volunteer for the mission but is not defending Benden in the other RP.
- Play starts as the wherholders explode en mass from between, dropping whers and humans on the ground while dragons engage other dragons.
- Again, all PCs are welcome and combat between PCs is allowed. Please see the table below for stats. Wherholders may come armed, Trine folk should only be armed if it is their day to day routine. You are trusted to remain IC with this.
-A group of NPC wherhandlers, whers, and humans head in to pick the cages, PCs are welcome as part of that group.
To Pick Locks: Staff will roll 3d10 in this post (Stealth, Tools) per Cage. To unlock a cage, the PC picking the lock must match all 3 numbers. Having a bonus of +1 in Tools allows you to move one dice one step closer to success whether that's up or down a number, eg if I roll 3, 3, 3, and you roll 2, 2, 2 you can alter your roll to be 2, 2, 3. If you have +2 you can make it 2, 3, 3. If you have any negative score in tools you must forfeit a turn when you begin picking the lock. This is a race, feel free to post among yourselves until the lock is picked but please do not double post and be reasonable, giving others a bit of time to take part.
- When the first cage is open more action will take place!
- Combat between PCs is allowed! Please see the table below.
- Each character gets 1 action per turn (attack, dodge, use item, or re-arm)
-Humans' damage can be augmented by weapons. If you are not armed at the beginning you must roll for your weapon: 1d20 (1-11: Makeshift [+1]; 12-17: Blunt [+2]; 18-20: Bladed [+3])
-Humans can re-arm once every 3 turns but it costs an action to do so. If you roll below your current weapon grade you retain your current weapon but have lost that turn.
-Bandages heal 3hp and take one action to use. PCs of the wherholds have 6 bandages each, Trine folk have 1d6 bandages. Rolling for the number you have does not cost an action.
- A note on flitts. All flits have 10HP regardless of colour and you can only use flits if your character owns them. If they are attacked and their HP drops to 0, the flit dies in-game, no exceptions. You can use a firelizard to take damage for you rather than defending, leaving you free to attack in that action but you must post a link to your flitt's image if you do this.

She was still recovering, and quite grumpy about it. Cepheith did not like being so out of commission. Especially when she knew they had people to rescue! And some of her favorite dragons were pining. This just would not do! So it was unfortunate when there was suddenly dragons in the air. And not her dragons. The Gold was on her feet in seconds, crimson eyes burning furiously. Trine! The handlers have come! Dragons be prepared. Cepheith bellowed in outrage, tail thrashing and wings extended to their max.
You are NOT welcome here! She snarled.
Narisa cursed impressively, running for her dragon. She was armed - always after the first attacks - with her small knife and not recovered completely either. But she would defend her home. Their Weyr.
"Faranth help us... " She muttered, standing by her dragon's leg. Cepheith hissed, curling her wing to form a 'barrier' around her rider. It was the least she could do with them, as flying was not an option yet. "Be careful, Ceph." She hoped, which was perhaps asking too much, that this could be a sign their own rescuers would not face the bulk of the handlers. Though it was Benden...
You as well, Narisamine. The Queen growled and roared. If Trine wasn't aware of what was going on before, they would be now.
Tatath grumbled to her rider. When the call had gone out to rescue their fellow wherholders, the green pair were some of the first to volunteer. And now, Tatath held a small wher in her claws and a person she didn't know on her back.
Canoake patted her belt sheath, making sure her knife was there and reassuring herself. They were to fight again. She might get injured, Canoake was sure she would get hurt. Her stitches were barely healed but there was no way she could leave A'nos behind. Some small part of her hurt knowing he was in danger. "We will be victorious and get our own back. And yes, they will both owe us big. Ready?"
And the pair burst out from Between. Tatath dipped down low and dropped off her passengers and her rider.

Suunath had been convalescing nearby Cephieth, she too had been injured in the fight, As soon as Cepheith raised the alarm Suunath was up and flaring her wings. She wasted no time on words, Ceph had that covered, her eyes whirling shades of red as she mantled her wings and snaked her head, sticking to the ground to protect Hers... and to keep Kiindra from doing anything stupid.
Kindra was slightly worse off than Narisa had been wound wise, the deepth of them meant that despite the time having passed since they had fought over natai, (which, in her opinon was stupid in hindsight but they were Trine's people being attacked, she wasn't going to abandon them and run away like that brat Natai had) She stood armed, beside her Dragon's leg, the stitches she'd had to close her deeper wounds having been removed now that the wounds had closed mostly but if she wasn't careful they could be re-opened. She was definitely more cautious this time, especially after the earful she'd gotten from N'mol, she didn't want to give him any more cause to be so worried about her.
The sudden commotion stirred Harmony from her fitful doze. For a moment she thought she had to be dreaming but no, she felt Harmonsk in her mind ready to fight. Scrabbling to her knees the wherhandler moved to the bars and gripped them hard. "Hey! Hey over here!" It was obvious where they were of course but having been terrified, drenched and scorched by turns, half starved and slightly feverish from her wounds she wasn't in the best state of mind to realize this.
--------
A'nos was slower to react. The proud, usually immaculate healer sat hunched in on himself at the center of the cage, as far from the bars and the folk of Trine as possible. Acriculeth was trying to tell him something but it was hard to focus. Blinking dazedly he raised his head and looked around, something was definitely happening... rescue? Had their allies come to save them? He was reserving judgement on that for now, though it seemed to be the case his mind could be playing tricks on him.
Stealth:75. Tools:82. (Not sure what my bonuses are)
While Tatath was out distracting the dragons and assisting in any way she could, Canoake was slowly but surely making her way to the cages. She had her knife out and watched as others either joined the fight or made their way to other cages. There were two in particular she was looking for and hearing a shouut of sorts, she followed the echo.
And here they went, yet again. Anali and Banshidheth had considered remaining at Benden to help there, but had deemed it best to go to Trine, where Banshi would be of greater use, considering the golds there. Hopefully, they'd still be recovering from their last encounter with the wherholders.
The massive Queen circled, surveying the area before touching down as near to the cages as she could get and dropping off her passengers, including Hers.
Anali hurried to the nearest cage and set about hastily working on the lock (something she'd only learned in the last few days, and consequently wasn't very good at).
Ivanhoth
Within seconds of the gold's appearance, Ivanhoth burst from between with a roar. He looked marginally better than he had the last time he'd fought, their success having gone some way to lifting his spirits. And now he was he to rescue His!
Fi'o! MyFi'o, I am here!
In the cage, his rider stirred, and quickly regretted the movement. Her broken arm was still quite painful. 'bout time, she sent back blearily.
Ralla and Firith (Last 3 dice.) 8, 5, 9
The Warden pair, too, had had to decide between Benden and Trine, and had also come to the conclusion that they'd be more use here, in the open air where dragon could fight. Firith bugled as they arrived and set her rider down so that Ralla could get to work. The greenrider was still in less-than-perfect shape, but she had no intentions of letting that stop her.
"Hey," she remarked to the inhabitants of the cages. "Hope you haven't gotten too comfortable."
Dinah
"Don't be smart," Dinah snapped at Ralla, "Just get us out of here already!" And then maybe she'd have a chance to smash some heads!
Dinsk, get your a** over here, now! she sent to her wher, who'd been lurking in the jungle. She received a feeling of reluctance in return, and sent a sharp mental snap back. Dinsk had been quite enjoying herself, roaming and hunting in the company of the gold whose handler had also been captured.
Kesin
Rescue? About sharding time! Kesin was so over being stuck in this filthy, awful cage in awful weather. She deserved so much better than this!
V'ell and Zarth +2 bonus to Tools Numbers to match: 8, 5, 9 Switching the 7 to a 5
V'ell wasn't certain why she'd volunteered to go on this rescue mission - as far as she was concerned, she and her weyrmate had gotten out fine, so the others ought to have been more sensible and done the same. But at the same time, their numbers were dwindled thanks to this most recent bout of Trine attacks, and it wasn't as if they could afford to lose the captured.
Zarth swept in fast and low, keeping as far away from the golds as she could - a green didn't stand a chance where queens were about to clash. And V'ell had better things to do anyway.
She'd been paying close attention during the lessons in tool use, back during the training. "Scoot over, let me have a look at that lock." Approaching the first cage, V'ell set to work - it was a simple lock, straightforward enough, and under her steady hands it clicked open easily.

Even as Trine moved in to drive the wherholders off Ve'll made swift work of the lock on the first cadge. Swift though she was however not all of her allies had enough patience to proceed as planned with the rescue. Rather than landing and helping prisoners up onto his back a young bronze bellowed and dived towards the cadge.
he called to his allies, grasping the bars between his talons and lifting the whole thing off the ground. It was heavier than he had expected however, and he had not counted on Trine's defences. Loyalist dragons harried him, slashing and biting at him. Giving a cry of frustration and pain he let go of the cage with one forepaw in order to slash back at a brown who had just struck him.
For those inside, this was a disaster.
The cage jerked, tipping to the side, and the door that V'ell had so cleverly unlocked swung wide open sending the prisoners plunging towards the lake now far below them.
Instructions
- Ooooh, s**t catch those prisoners! Wherhold riders and Prisoners both roll 1d8 (Combat, Group), if a rider matches a falling wherholder they manage to catch them! If there are no matches for a prisoner's roll, then the prisoner isn’t caught. Each PC gets only ONE roll and each dragon can only catch one prisoner; if you roll an 8 as a rider and so do two prisoners, the second prisoner will have to hope another rider gets an 8!
- Those not caught fall into the Lake below and must roll 7 or more on 1d10 to stay conscious.
- Riders and prisoners from cadge 1 have 24 hours to complete this section. If prisoners fail to roll, it is assumed they fell into the lake and were knocked out.
"Idiot!" V'ell screamed aloud at the young bronze, futilely signaling Zarth to force him and his precious cargo back down to earth. But before Zarth could move in, Trine dragons were dogpiling him, and the cage was swinging free -
And the prisoners were falling. Tumbling out the now-wide-open door. Shards - Zarth, I need you -
Already on it, Mine. Zarth had no interest in tangling in close combat with any of the Trine dragons. She'd stayed on the move in the air, using her light slender build to her advantage to fly circles around the heavyweight browns and bronzes. Folding her wings, she plummeted downwards over the lake, forepaws outstretched to snatch up a falling prisoner if she could.

D'ei landed just in time to see a shiny hided moron decide to take the reigns in his clawed paws. A familiar voice shrieked loud enough for her head to whip around and - people falling.
You deadglow Lycath screamed, uncharacteristically furious. Humans were falling, their humans, and luckily enough for him none of them he cared too much about. He dove after the fallen humans, stretching his mass out to try and grab one of the wherholders.
While he risked life and limb, D'ei darted towards the other cage and her weyrmate.
R'an wasn't allowed near the Wherhandler cages, it was deemed that weyrlings could either be corrupted or even hurt if they tried to interact so he was kept away.
He couldn't stay away though, not with the sudden alarm raised by the Gold that had laid Syriacuth. Both the dragon and young rider and run as close to the captive area as possible. He wasn't the only one. In the sky dragons were attacking dragons!
On the ground beside R'an, Syriacuth was backing up. His wings flared and hissing at the sky. 'This is bad!' He spoke, his tail lashing back and forth. R'an could only nod, watching the battle in the sky, unaware he was leaving himself to any attack until Syriacuth lashed his tail into his leg to get his attention to those who were moving to pick the locks on the cages. R'an was only 17. He had never fought before, but he was big for his age. Maybe he could stop them? He looked around, no other Trine riders had appeared on the ground yet, was should he do? He had no weapons on him and he had no training in fighting yet. Could he take one of these men on without getting hurt? He decided to risk it. If he was the only one there at that moment, he might be the only one to stop it!
He began to run forward, Syriacuth beside him until the bronze swooped in.
It only grew worse as a bronze dragon pulled a cage up and off the ground. R'an stopped in his tracks and began to back up, unwanting to be crushed by the huge object if it dropped and it opened, the prisoners falling down! Even if they were traitors and murders, R'an wanted to run to the edge of the lake, unsure if he should help those that fell or if he should leave them. He looked up at the sky again, seeing dragons diving to reach the falling people. He could only watch for now. He decided to turn his attention back to the other cage, would another dragon try the same stunt? Should he run and get more help? He saw another person running to the cages and he decided in a split second to try and stop them. "Hey stop!" He called as he began to run towards them once again.
((I figured this is a good way for him to join the fun?))

"A'nos! F'io!". Canoake screamed at the top of her lungs. She raced, thankful to be in her riding leathers, to the lake. She looked up to see the sharding bronze who had decided to play rescuer. Her heart was in her throat and her stomach dropped. "Tatath! Please, please catch someone-anyone! My true green you can do it! Use your skill!"
Tatath felt her rider's fear for their comrades. Then green hissed and dove, ignoring any and all attacks, claws outstretched. She would do this, she would find someone!
Thank Faranth, the lock was picked! Unfortunately, however, there was no time for any of them to actually get out before the world's stupidest shaffing bronze decided to pick up the whole cage because, like most bronzes, he apparently had more ego and sense. Fi'o was helpless to do anything but yell insults at him, and she didn't have much time to do that, either, before the cage came open and they were all falling.
