Nuivian peered through the branches of the tree he was currently hiding behind. He couldn’t say that he was mustering up a near suitable amount of interest in this whole ordeal, but hey, he was told to hunt dragons, so he’s hunting dragons.
How hard could it be?
He’d been watching an Ysali dragon in front of him for what seemed like hours, and really it wasn’t doing much. It probably wasn’t even that dangerous. The others seemed to think that it was hard or something. The key here would be to surprise it, and get it while it was down. Nuivian decided that despite his lack of interest in this, he might as well do a good job, and with this he moved out from behind his tree and tried to circle around to the back of the dragon without being noticed.
Nuivian silently approached his target with a stealth that he was still learning to pick up. The thing hadn’t seemed to notice him yet, but he still had to be at least somewhat on guard. The whole thing would just be a bother if he tipped the dragon off to his presence early. He raised his arms, ready to be done with the thing when it happened.
Damn.
Nuivian had stepped on the fallen twigs he had been trying to avoid. Damn it. The dragon’s head perked up at the sound of movement behind it and quickly turned to face Nuivian. s**t. The dragon reared back its head and without Nuivian knowing what was happening to him – having been distracted by the dragon’s awareness of him – he was wrapped in vines and dangling from a nearby tree. The dragon quickly took off and left Nuivian, alone, and hanging from a tree. Well, that was a perfect waste of time.
