 The sky was clear and the day was warm. Winter was long over and the days were warm starting to get into too warm territory. For Eridanus the whole "summer" thing was still a wonderful experience after the chill of fall and the winter freeze.
He shook his hair out of his eyes and peered into a stream. He had to say he'd grown into himself rather well. The gangly awkwardness of his youth was mostly gone replaced with a more confident self. Although sometimes his bladed wings still gave him pause, he felt he'd more or less mastered them.
He was on his way to see Aruhe, and the thought of the lovely unicorn made his heart beat fast. It had been awhile since he'd seen her, and he wondered if she'd see how much he'd grown, that he was no longer a little colt anymore, but an adult. He'd realized a long time ago he'd had strong feelings for the mare, and as a result he'd decided to stay away from her while he sorted himself out. Love wasn't really something he was all that familiar with, and finding that he himself was in love had given him pause. He hoped Aru wouldn't hold his disappearance against him, but he wouldn't blame her if she did.
He sighed and took a step back. It was then he noticed a tree with purple flowers on it. Eri pranced a bit and trotted over. They really couldn't be more perfect and he flicked a blade up and carefully sliced a small branch off. He picked them up and then happily trotted towards the field. If he was going to get scolded he may as well do something to soften the blow.

 Winter had melted away and the spring rains had calmed and what was left was the beauty of summer air and the beauty of nature and her flowers. Aruhe sighed a bit as she lay amongst the new flowers in the field, it was beautiful but she couldn't help but think something was missing. It had been ages it seemed since she last saw her best friend. He had disappeared into the night it seemed. She knew it must be for a good reason, something he needed to do or discover on his own.
She had been sad for awhile, but her mother reminded her that she had done the same in her youth. She had flown guided by the moon to find herself. Aruhe was still sad a lonely without her Eri around, but she had faith that he would return. Until then she would wait as patiently as she could until he did. There was a connection between them that she couldn't quite understand. She loved her friend, but she tried to lighten her affections because she knew of their age differences. There wasn't that much of a gap, but he had been a foal and she a teenager when they met.....It confused her some.
She prayed that she would be able to figure herself out, but one way or another she knew she loved him. She smelled the flowers as a light breeze blew through the field, it was then that she had an odd feeling that something was coming. She stood and shook herself off and looked to the entrance. Her heart started beating fast as she watched for something in the shade of the trees. What was it, what was coming. She was frozen in place waiting...

Eri ducked his head as he came out from under the trees into the bright light. He lifted his head as his eyes adjusted and tossed his forelock out of his eyes again. He froze as he saw Aru standing there. Had she become even more lovely? Was that even possible? She'd always been beautiful to him even when he was young so the possibility she'd become more stunning was starting to make his head swim.
He slowly walked up to her and set the flowering branch down at her hooves and then shyly straightened and realized how much he'd grown. The last time he'd seen her they were almost eye to eye and now he had a good head or so over her. "Hello, Aru." he said softely his voice now a deep baritone. "I'm sorry for being gone so long." he swallowed and shuffled. That really was a terrible apology but he didn't really have anything to say for himself. He only hoped she'd forgive him. "I got these for you." he said motioning towards the flowers. "I hope you like them. They made me think of you." he said offering a small smile.

Was the sun playing tricks on her? No it would be too cruel, she was sure she was really seeing Eri. He stepped forward and she marveled at how tall he was now. She told him he would get taller then her one day. She walked forward some before he placed a twig with purple flowers before her.
She looked down at the flowers and smiled, they were lovely and she noted to admire them more later. Then he spoke and her knees buckled, she felt as if she had forgotten it almost. It may have been deeper but it was the same Eri, her Eri.
Her eyes started to water and she thought her heart would burst out of her chest. She lunged forward and wrapped her neck around his in a warm embrace. Tears started to fall lightly on her face, but she was smiling as she spoke in his ear. "I missed you, Welcome Home!"

He blinked as she put her neck around his. He didn't know what he'd expected but this hadn't been it. "Don't cry, Aru." he said putting his head on her neck. "You'll make me cry." he said teasingly, but was closer to truth as he closed his eyes to keep tears from welling up.
He gently moved his head to stroke her soft hair and swallowed to keep his voice from cracking. "I missed you too. So much." he said. At the word home though the dams broke loose and a few tears coursed down his cheek. He'd never realized how much he thought of this place as home. No...it wasn't that. Any place with Aruhe was home, and it had taken the last few months for him to realize that.
He took a half step back, even though he'd have rather stayed like that with the mare but he was afraid that they may never move again if he didn't. Not that he'd mind really. "You're even prettier than I remember." he said with a smile. "I mean that."

She sniffed a bit as they reluctantly pulled away and shook her head to hid her self of lingering tears. She smiled at him and blushed at his words. "You flatter me, Im sure im just the same......You however....have grown more handsome and taller. You are befitting the stars, truly." she chuckled a bit as she spoke looking up at him at his new height over her.
It was then she looked back at the flowers he brought, sniffed them and gently moved them to the side so they wouldn't get stepped on. "Thank you for the flowers, they are beautiful. Tell me, where did you go...why did you so suddenly leave?" She almost didn't ask not wanting to pry but she was curious and she loved hearing of adventures, her curiosity got the better of her.

He blushed at her compliments. "You're far to kind." he shuffled. "And there's only one thing I ever wanted to be befitting for." he blushed harder not having meant to say that as it would mean he would have to answer to what or whom he was trying to be worthy of.
He cleared his throat and smiled. "I'm glad you like them." he then paused and considered what to say about the last few months. "Walk with me, Aruhe? Although I know we both prefer the beauty of the stars, today is a lovely day and it would be a shame to waste it." He turned slightly and flicked out a blade to indicate the direction he wanted to walk with her if she was inclined.

She was too aflutter to take note of his comment, she only saw him and knew the happiness of her own heart. She nodded her head at his question and smiled, moving closer to him, leaning into him before they started to walk. She looked up at him, her eyes glowing bright and twinkling, "It is much brighter and beautiful now that your home. Ill go anywhere with you Eri.", she said with a blush so strong it showed rather brightly on her usually dark cheeks.

Eri's heart fluttered as she pressed against him, and little fish swam up and down his spine. He melted at the look in her eyes and the blush on her cheeks. Well it was nice to know that he wasn't the only one who was flustered. "It's good to be home." he said with a nod. As her following him anywhere he didn't know what to say to that. He'd always imagined he'd be the one following her, protecting her. He was certainly packing the hardware to make sure nothing and no one got near his Aruhe.
They walked for a bit under the bright sunshine, while Eridanus composed his thoughts. He wasn't sure how much he wanted to tell Aru, but knew eventually it would all come out anyway. "Well...my mother decided rather suddenly that she wanted to take me back to where she actually lives. It was a far distance away, but I marked trees and all along the way so I would remember the way back to you." he said. "I met my oldest half-sibling. Least Mother says she's my sister. Her name is Sadira and...she's...well...a plant..." he knew he better explain quickly as that didn't sound right. "I mean it, she has flowers that seem to grow on her, and she smells like...the meadow at night when the flowers bloom. She's very sweet and kind, but she made my heart ache whenever she was around." he sighed and then looked up at the sky. "I also had to do some thinking during this time..." he said softly.

Aruhe couldn't be happier, she had her best friend back. As she walked with him though she realized there was definetly something more then and it made her heart flutter so she thought her knees would give out on her. She was so far in the clouds she would've thought she was floating.
She walked unsure of what he would tell her, but at the same time she was trying to figure out what to say to him. What could she say to describe her feelings? There didn't seem to be any words. It was soon though that Eri broke her thoughts and Aruhe was all ears and looked at him as he spoke, paying attention to everything. "Sadira, that's a very pretty name. She sounds very lovely, maybe one day I can meet her. Why did your heart ache? Im not sure I understand Eri, what did you have to think about?"

He nodded. "Maybe. I'm sure she'll like you. I can't really imagine her disliking anyone." he paused and swallowed coming to a stop and looking at his hooves. "Because I missed you...I missed you so much, Aruhe. And...that's...because..." he fidgeted and his wings trembled but remained settled. "Iloveyou." he said all in a rush.
He didn't know what to do and turned his head embarrassed. Although he meant it with all his heart he was afraid as well. He didn't know what he'd do if she rejected him. He wasn't sure there was a hole deep enough to hide him, he hoped so though, because he was pretty sure that if this went badly he'd never ever come out again. "I...understand if you don't feel the same way. I just wanted you to know." he muttered.

She smiled and blushed as he said he missed her, but she was also curious at his enhanced nervousness. She started to worry that something was wrong. She was going to comfort him, say something to help calm him as she moved to face him. As she came to be nearly nose to nose with him she found herself stumble back a few paces as he blurted out the most wondrous thing she'd ever heard.
She was stunned, shocked, had she heard him right? She felt as if her hooves and eyes grew ever brighter, but she couldn't see them to know, all she saw was Eri. He wouldn't look at her, he was embarrassed though that was the last thing he should be. At his next words she could only give a small smile as she regained some composure and walked closer. She very carefully nudged his head back up to look at her, her eyes were starting to water again but she was all smiles. "I love you too Eri, I didn't know how to say it, but I love you more then I love the stars in the sky!", she said her voice shaking with joy as a stray tear fell down her cheek.

Eri froze as she said that. His heart was racing and he thought he might pass out from relief. He slowly turned his head and peeked out at her from under his bangs. "Really, Aru?" he swallowed as he blinked back tears of his own. "I...I'm so happy." he sniffed and his voice cracked. "I truly am." he took a few steps towards her and put his head on her neck. "I promise to never leave you again. Anyone who threatens you will have to deal with me. You are my whole world, my moon, my heaven." he said softly.
He just stayed there unsure what to do now that he'd confessed his undying love. Well there was the whole get settled thing. This was his home now and he needed to get used to it. The last time he'd been here he could still get lost in the tall grass if he'd wanted too.

"You are the stars...the light in the skies of my life. I knew we had a special connection but after you left I started to realize more and more that it was something so much more. I was worried I was the only one who felt this way. And it scared me a little.....I didnt know there was such a thing that could tug at my heart so.", she said slightly teary as she hugged his neck. From there she wasnt sure what was to come next, there were so many things running through her mind she didnt know where to begin.
She finally caught her breath and calmed her heart and slowly pulled away from the embrace. "What now? Are you going to live with me here in Glen? What about your mother, does she know....we have to tell my family.", her words were paced and being spoken at the racing rate that her mind was thinking. She was giddy as a filly and in her excitement and happiness she was almost bouncing on her hooves and before she could say another word and before Eri had a chance to chime in she moved in and kissed her love much to her own surprise. When she pulled away she was silent and blushing even deeper then before.

Eridanus shook his head. "You weren't the only one. The moment I left the only thing I wanted to do was come back here, to you. I thought about you every day, I almost thought you were just a figment of my imagination sometimes." he chuckled and he was about to answer her questions when she moved in and kissed him.
It was wonderful, electricity felt like it was going through every nerve in his body, his knees went weak and he nearly thought he was going to end up on the ground. He mirrored her blush as she pulled away, and he had no idea she could turn that color under her dark coat. "Ah," he stopped and tried to get his thoughts in order. Who knew a kiss had the power to completely destroy thought processes! He took a deep breath and managed to figure out what he was going to say again. "Yes. I told my mother was leaving. She...didn't necessarily like it, but she couldn't really stop me either." he took another breath. "And as long as as your family is okay with it, yes I'd like to stay here with you. I like it here, it feels like home."
