Lume flicked the bug off of the tree branch he rested on, watching with a sort of sick entertainment as it fell to the ground and was lost amongst the sparse foliage surrounding the base of the tree. He just woken up from a very nice nap, and was now looking for something else to do. The hybrid had spent the majority of the day beforehand practicing his dancing. His mother would be happy about that fact, certainly. Which reminded him, it was about time for him to go back to Rio. Lume had been out for quite a few days, four including today, and if he didn't get back soon, his mother would start to worry about him. Lume wished his mother would stop worrying as much as she did. It wasn't good for her health. Plus the male could take care of himself. Unlike his mother, Lume knew how to handle himself in a scuffle, whereas Rio was very much against all sorts of violence. She was getting more used to the fact that Lume liked brawling in his free time. Lume was sure she still hated it, but she no longer scolded him as much. And he was willing to bet that in time, Rio would come to appreciate his other skills. If Rio ever got into a nasty situation, Lume would be able to protect her, and that was part of the reason he kept going out looking for fights. It helped him practice, hone his skills. Of course, there were other activities he could do with some practice in, Lume thought with a grin as a red lioness appeared on the horizon. He rested his head on his paws and waited until the female got a little bit closer to his tree. It had been a little while since he had someone to flirt with. "Well hey there, gorgeous. Need a little bit of...company, one this afternoon as fine as yourself?" The male put on his most charming smile, giving the lioness a wink.

Well, she was certainly no longer near the coast, that was for sure, Kali thought bitterly. It was awfully hot, and with no sea breeze or ocean to cool down in, the lioness was sure that her fur was going to melt off in the heat. Of course, the older she got, the less she could go down to the beach without some male harassing her. Kali sighed at the thought, scowling at the idea of males in general. She was never going to let herself be flirted with again, that was certain. At least, not unless she wanted it. Which Kali also doubted. The idea of having a mate was all but repulsive. She paused, looking around for a stream to cool down in or large rock crawl under for shade. Violet eyes scanned the horizon slowly until they locked in on what looked to be a small grouping of some trees in the distance. Kali exhaled in relief, the potential of being out of the sun giving her more energy. She resumed traveling at a faster pace, trotting quickly to the shady area. Kali hoped she'd be able to get some rest too. Then she could resume her journey at night, maybe find something to eat as well. "Well hey there, gorgeous. Need a little bit of...company, one this afternoon as fine as yourself?" Kali stopped dead in her tracks, head whipping up to glare at the speaker up in the tree. If she had known there would be some cocky male in the area, Kali would have taken the risk of heat stroke out in the sun. She snarled, claws unsheathing. Now that she was here though, might as well take care of the pig up in the tree. No one was going to speak to her that way ever again and get away with it. "Why don't you come down here and say that to my face?" Kali dared the male, purple eyes flashing.

Lume laughed at the threat, standing up on the tree branch. Touchy touchy, this lady was. Lume hopped down to the ground, shaking himself off before looking at the female. She was young, not quite yet an adult. Most likely had just come of the age to go off and leave her parents. Young rebellious teenager then, eh? Lume could work with that. In fact, Lume thought this might be the first time a guy had even looked her way before. No wonder the poor girl hadn't been able to appreciate his compliment. Well, the hybrid was just going to have to teach her how to respond when a male was flirting. "No need to get testy, honey. Ain't nothing wrong with giving a pretty lady a compliment." Lume said with a pout, blinking innocently. He circled the female one, slowly, noticing quite a few scars here and there. Yeesh. What kind of family had she come from? This meant that Lume would have to show her some friendly hospitality. To build her faith in the feline kind, of course. It was his duty. "In fact, it's good practice to repsond to a compliment by giving on of your own, don't you think?" The leotah suggested with another wink.

Kali nearly shook with anger. All those times, being flirted with back in the Pirate lands, she wished so desperately she could flay all those males. All the things she wished she had been able to say, the hatred she felt, all came bubbling to the surface. Here, out on her own, Kali had to parents to embarrass, no commodore to answer to if she struck out. There would be no consequences, only the satisfaction of having taught a male a lesson. "You want a compliment?" She asked, her voice dangerously even. Her eyes narrowed, honing in on the leotah's back. She had her plan, and now it was time to execute it, and this male, in the process. "Your fur is gonna look so nice on my back when I wear it as a coat!" Kali sprang with a roar, landing square on the hybrid's shoulder. She latched onto the back of his neck, reveling in the taste of blood that began pooling in her mouth.

Lume yowled with pain, bending low to the ground at the sudden weight of the lioness. She was heavier than she looked! Hissing and spitting, Lume threw his back legs forward, trying to throw the female off of him. He bucked back and forther, mimicking the motion the zebras he liked to heckle every now and then. Who knew that he'd learn something from them? With one last buck forward, he felt the lion's claws detach from his skin. Lume backed up and out of the way, wincing at the pain in his neck. If she wanted to play that way, then Lume could deal. He would just show her how the big boys liked to play. As quick as his cheetah's blood allowed for, Lume struck out with his claws.

Kali flew off the male's back, going skidding along the dirt. She shook some of the dust from her eyes and rolled to the side at the sight of a black paw reaching towards her face. Damn, this male was quick! Must have cheetah in him. Kali could be quick too though. She reached out, latching onto the outstretched leg and biting down. Flexing her jaw, the lioness bit down until she felt and heard bones crack. Let's see how the male liked that. Show him not to go hitting on any females willy nilly anymore.

Lume reeled back with a yowl of pain. It felt like his entire leg was on fire. Groaning, the male pulled his injured limb in close to his blood, staring in shock at the slight, unnatural bend in his leg. Something had definitely broken. Lume needed to get out of here, and he needed to do it fast. Else this female might be the end of him. The leotah whipped around as fast as he could, not as fast as he normally could thanks to the searing pain he felt when putting weight on his leg, and dashed past the lioness. He swiped a back leg out behind as he went, hoping to at least leave his opponent with some sort of scratch. But Lume felt nothing catch in his claws, so he focused on his retreat.

Kali hissed fiercely. She was not letting this male get away so easily! The female snapped, trying to grab his back leg or tail, but strands of black hair ended up in her teeth. No matter. His leg was badly injured. With his condition, Kali would be able to outrun him easily, despite his apparent cheetah heritage. She took off after the male, sprinting out of the copse of trees hot on the leotah's tail. She gained on him quickly, paws flying over the ground. As soon as she was shoulder level, she was going to bowl this male over and give him a good beat down.

Lume glanced back and swore. The lioness was catching up to him! He grimaced. If he didn't do something to deter her, Lume was going to be in a world of hurt. This was his last shot, the last chance he had of escaping. The leotah was going to have to use the element of surprise. He stopped short, pivoting on his injured leg, and slashed at the female's neck. Lume stopped long enough to see the blood begin to flow from the wound before taking off again. He could only hope that it would be enough to slow her down.

Kali didn't even see the hit coming. One minute she was chasing the male, the next he was running way ahead of her and her neck was bleeding. The female stopped to inspect the wound on her neck, making a face at the amount of blood that was flowing. He gotten lucky with that hit. The gashes were deep and bleeding profusely. She didn't think he had nicked an artery, but it would still be a good idea to staunch the blood flow as quickly as possible. Heat plus blood loss was not a good combination. Kali glared at the retreating leotah and smiled. She had done enough damage. Plus she had gotten the satisfaction of finally, finally telling a male off like she had always been wanting to. Kali felt so empowered, so liberated. Leaving home was starting to seem like the best decision she had ever made. The female turned back towards the trees. There were probably some weeds she could chew on to make a paste for the wound.

Lume kept running until his injured leg finally gave out under him. He collapsed into the grass, chest heaving from effort. He looked behind him, searching for any signs of the red lioness, but found none. She was gone, and Lume was safe. Well, as safe as he could be with a probably-broken leg. He couldn't go back to his mother like this. Hell, he wasn't even sure that he could make it back to where his mother was. Lume needed to find someone who could help his leg, or else he was looking at permanent crippling. Limbs shaking, he got back to his paws and continued on, limping heavily under the hot sun.
