General Information
The Shadow Run is both the simplest and most dangerous training course that can be run without a golem. A flurry of continuous attacks is what the Sun Division holds in highest respect, and the course reflects that. The course itself is a simple tunnel, reached via portal. Within the tunnel await hundreds of weak, hungry shadowlings. Nothing to worry about on their own, but capable of overwhelming a Hunter through sheer numbers at the first moment of weakness. At the other end of the tunnel is another portal, leading back to the course observation booth.

If you fail: your character is KO'd, but there's always a senior hunter in the observation booth with enhanced bandages at the ready. They should reach you in time. Really. Trained and trusty professionals on-hand 24/7.

If you win: peen points and bragging rights to those who take out the greatest number of shadowlings and go the most turns without needing to attempt a recovery maneuver.

    Mechanics
  • You must get through 5 waves of attacks to make it through the tunnel.
  • Simply roll for attack as you would in battle.
  • If you miss, your character falters in their attacking and is overwhelmed by shadowlings.
  • After 3 successful hits, you may use your weapon's charge attack.

    Bonus Mechanics
  • This bonus is consumable.
  • The bonus in this course is in the form of "recoveries" ~ these are would-be missed attacks that are quickly recovered and turned into a successful hit. Basically, they can miss once and roll again for an extra try. If you keep consecutively missing, though, and run out of recoveries, it's lights out. These do not equal an automatic pass for a round, you still have to land a successful hit to proceed.

  • Trainees: 0 recovery
  • Sun Trainees: 1 recovery
  • Hunters: 1 recovery
  • Sun Hunters: 2 recoveries

It was important to Evan, after their horrible failure in the Haunted House, that he and Gir learn to work better together as a team. As mentally deficient as his hyperactive partner could be, they were stuck together for better or worse as long as Evan lived.

And he did want to live, at least long enough to put some of these ******** monsters out of commission for good.

He was beyond disappointed by their performance as of late and was pushing well into really ******** angry territory, so the Shadow Run would also allow Evan to channel some of that into creatures that actually deserved it.

When the shadowlings were released, Evan took the initiative and launched himself forward. One little creature, slightly faster than the others, thought it could take them on single-handedly and wound up only succeeding in being the first to die.

Evan's impatience also cost him; he cursed as he was swallowed by a wave of shadowlings.

Such an early failure hadn't really helped Evan's sense of mad as hell any--had, actually, made it worse. This time, Evan waited for the shadowlings to come to him, slicing through a pack of them with ease.

Gir whined as they were overwhelmed again. He was hungry, and these bite-sized snacks were tasty!

Okay, the past few attempts hadn't been too bad, considering Evan had never done this before, but now it was time to finish it.

Besides, he was getting hungry too.

Better, Evan thought as they successfully cut through a second wave of shadowlings. It seemed to be as much a matter of timing as force.

A couple of brave shadowlings thought they could take Evan on all by themselves and were proven wrong when Gir cut them into nothing. The weapon growled and whined in the back of Evan's mind, full of Fear and eager to release it.

Although Gir was urging him forward, Evan waited for the shadowlings to come to them. The teeth of the blade, wrapped in red, glowing Fear, cut easily through all of them.

Managing Gir after he spent his charge was something Evan wasn't really used to yet. It was still hard for him to separate the weapon's immediate shift from anxious and violent to happy and peaceful. That was something they would have to work on, Evan decided as they narrowly avoided going under beneath a group of shadowlings.

Evan was pleased to note that they recovered from their momentary lapse in cohesion far quickly than they had previously, allowing him to swing the blade through an oncoming mass of shadowlings.
