It had been a couple of days since Synder and her sibling had made their way out of the basket and into the big wide world around them. The little foal was still getting used to everything around her..and this had not been helped with the arrival of even more foals soon after.

Now the little meadow she had shared with her brother was filled near to bursting with three others and the few adult whom had been allowed to come and go..mostly just her father, the spotted foals parents and the black mare Synder had determined to be their caregiver. Synder liked the black mare..though she was not overly fond of the way she poked and prodded at her..and she was getting tired of staying 'quietly' in the little clearing..there was a whole big world out there and she wanted to see it!

"Hey..hey you!" She called out to no foal in particular, anticipating that all of them would probably respond to some degree. "Lets go and see whats outside the meadow!" She encouraged in a quiet conspiratorial voice..if enough of them tried to make a run for it..surely some of them would make it right?

"Oh..oh I don't know if that's a good idea.." Blossom spoke up in her soft voice, looking with worry towards her siblings. They were younger then the two tailed foal..but not by much..just enough that she was not yet feeling the desire to break out of the clearing and go exploring.

No..Blossom was quite happy here in the clearing, where it was safe and warm and quiet. Besides she was pretty sure that her mother and father wouldn't like it and Blossom didn't want them angry with her, though so far that seemed like a hard thing to achieve as both of her parents were quite loving. "Why don't we just stay here and play a game?" She suggested instead hoping that the older foal would agree to stay put. "Your dad will get mad if you try and leave." She further pointed out, glancing at the stallion on the other side of the meadow where he was cropping grass and keeping half an eye on them all. Surely the other filly wouldn't want to get into trouble right?

Life was so new and yet noisy. Pembroke still wasn't sure what to make of the current situation he was in. This small clearing where they spent all of their time was beautiful and quiet, but it was kind of cramped as well. Between him, his two siblings, his two cousins, their Aunt who spent most of her time here taking care of them and the flow of adults, most his parents and other family members in and out, there wasn't a lot of room. Of course being cramped wasn't the biggest issue, some of the other foals, but especially the filly Synder, were a bit louder than Pembroke liked.

Speaking of which, Pembroke lifted his head and gazed at the filly as she called out and suggested they leave the grove. Was she crazy? Much as Pembroke would have liked a bit more room to move around with he did not think venturing out into the meadow, especially without his parents here to watch over them was a good idea. Moving to his sisters side Pembroke shook his head. "Yeah, that's not a good idea. Everyone says we have to stay here." He would not get in trouble for breaking the rules, and he was glad Blossom was thinking the same way. "You'll get in trouble if you leave, and that would be bad." Not to mention dangerous. What if she got lost, or hurt? Who would help her then if no one knew where she was? No, it was best to stay here and enjoy the day together in the safety of the clearing.

Motherhood was such a wonderful thing, and while her three children had surprised them all by emerging from their baskets early Whisper so was happy to have them. She loved them all equally and could see qualities from herself and Oloneric in each one. Her foals were quiet and well-behaved. She looked forward to the day when they were old enough to travel and meet her adoptive mother but for now she was content to keep them where they were and let them grow in the peaceful and beautiful area that the Little Meadow herd called home. She was on her way to spend some time with her children, and Syrrin's foals as well since they were all one big family, when she overhead some of them through the trees. A smile came her her lips as she heard two of her foals say it wasn't a good idea to leave the clearing. She was planning on letting them venture out today anyways for a little bit but it was nice to see they weren't going to run off and do something they shouldn't.

Entering the clearing Whisper looked at the group of foals and smiled. She loved them all so much and tried to be a mother figure to Syrrin's bunch as well as her own. Her eyes fell onto Synder first as she spoke. "I know it's hard to stay here, but it's the been the best place for you all. However, I think today we can let you spend some time in the meadow," her gaze shifted over all of the foals, "for all of you. But you must be on your best behavior and not wander too far." The meadow was safe, but with this many foals it would be hard to keep track of them all, Whisper needed them to stick close or the deal was off. Not only would it be good for the foals to get out for a bit but it would give Lapin some freedom as well, as the healer mare had been spending night and day with the foals since they had arrived. She was certain Lapin would be grateful for the break.

Symric had been napping when he heard his sister call out. Lazily, he opened one eye and squinted at her. Leave the meadow? It sounded like an idea he could go for, but before he could convince himself to move, Whisper appeared and offered to take them all out of the meadow anyway. Symric had preferred the idea of breaking out better than being 'allowed' out, but at least they'd get a chance to see something new.

Yawning, Symric stretched himself out and flicked his tail in a feline manner. He enjoyed his little cat naps but he did need to expend some energy as well. Filling with excitement, he trotted over to his sister and 'buddied' up with her. While he'd try to behave and stick with the group, he wasn't about to promise anything. He and Synder were likely to get into some bit of trouble together, his sister always did have the best ideas.

Sykes was considerably small, even for his young age. Perhaps with time he would grow and become big and strong like his dad, but for the time being he was just about the smallest thing found in the Herd. He was convinced there had to be a familiar about somewhere that was smaller when he got teased about his size by his siblings and cousins. He braved the comments and stood with his head held high. He wouldn't let his size stand in his way. He would try harder.

So when one of his cousins piped up with the idea to leave the safety of the meadow, Sykes was awake and in fact was once again sitting patiently in front of Lapin, staring at her. It didn't matter if she was paying him any attention, or if she was even doing anything at all! He was perfectly content to analyze her with his bright little eyes. He had set it out to himself to understand the mare. A hefty task, but he was determined.

Sykes had only flicked an ear over to listen to the other foals, and had internally agreed with his siblings that it would be better to stay here. Here was safe, warm, and had lots of interesting things in it, even if it was a little cramped. If the conversation had developed into an argument he would have gotten up to stand firm next to his siblings on the matter, but before it could get any further, Whisper appeared.

Their mother was someone that Sykes thought was the most beautiful in all the meadow (since he wasn't sure there were things outside of that yet), and he told her so, often. So when she spoke, he turned and trotted over to attend to her words.

Well, if she was taking them out for some exploration he felt better about that. He didn't want to stray too far, so he nodded to show that he promised to stay close. He was ready to stretch his little legs and explore with his siblings.

Syrrin lifted his head as Whisper came in to address the foals, the thought of his children leaving the safety of the meadow was scary but he realized that perhaps he was being a bit of an over protective father and he did trust Whisper. Still..maybe he would follow along just to make sure. "You kids better listen to your Aunt Whisper." Syrrin told Symric and Synder sternly as he moved in their direction. His two were older and already showing signs of being more adventurous..Syrrin wasn't sure if that was an age thing or just his children's personalities emerging already but either way he was bracing for a bit of troublesome behavior from them.

Synder nuzzled her brother as he joined her before giving the younger foals a slight roll of her eyes. They were so cautious and wary about everything! Still she supposed they were younger and that probably just meant they weren't old enough to be inde.. independent like her and her brother. "It's boring here, we've already seen everything! Aren't you guys curious about whats out there?!?" She asked them with a slight motion of her muzzle..which was about the same time she noticed Whisper arriving. Her Aunt was a sweet mare and although Synder was slightly jealous of her cousins for having a mother she couldn't help but love her Aunt all the same.

"Can we go to the stream? I hear theres a stream and I want to see it!" She asked the mare with a slightly excited dance of her hooves. Synder had no real idea what a stream was..but she had heard the adults talk about it allot and they went there all the time so Synder was sure it had to be exciting! And then her father arrived and Synder turned to give him an obedient look "Yes Father!" She promised sweetly

Blossom was really quite glad that her mother arrived before her cousins got around to doing anything they weren't supposed to and nickering she trotted over to nuzzle her mother lovingly, being careful not to jostle her smaller brother Sykes as he joined them, Blossom was small and dainty but Sykes? Sykes was just..itty bitty, no one had seen a foal quite as tiny as him in the herd before - she had heard the others say so..but she didn't really think much about it other then to be careful not to knock him over..I mean he seemed healthy right?

The other foals question about the stream made her pause slightly..she wasn't sure if she wanted to go to this 'stream' place, at least not until she knew what it was. "Whats a stream?" She asked her mother with a curious tilt of her head. Synder seemed excited about it but Blossom didn't think the other foal knew anything more about it then she did really.

Lapin had learned over the last few days how to watch over and yet ignore the foals at the exact same time. Sykes was like a little shadow, seemed every time she looked up there he was watching her. His quiet observing way reminded her a lot of Olo. It made sense that the foal inherited his curiosity but also his silent ways. It had also been hard to get much work done outside of the care of the foals since they had all emerged close together. Her stores were low on some herbs but she had not had the chance to gather any more. Though she was itching to get back to gathering Lapin had to admit she had been enjoying watching the foals and it had given her new experiences as well. Before this she had never dealt with anything basket or foal related, but not having watched over five foals Lapin felt like an expert.

Of course she was thrilled when Whisper arrived and mentioned taking them all out to the meadow for a while. "It will do them good to stretch their legs for a bit. This clearing isn't big enough to let them run much." She wasn't surprised when Synder mentioned going to the stream. "Hate to break it to you kid but I don't think the stream is the best place for you to go right now. Save that for when your older." Her gaze lifted to look at Syrrin, silently warning him to keep his eyes glued to his two children, for them woudl surely get into some kind of trouble on this outing.

Pembroke smiled as his mother entered the clearing, and along with Skyes and Blossom he moved over to great her with a nuzzle. To hear that she would be taking them to the meadow brought a wave of relief to the colt, he didn't want to break the rules, nor did he want anyone else to by going where they shouldn't. "Will father be coming too?" He asked his mother as he stepped back from giving her a nuzzle making sure to be careful around his very small brother. Of course his mother was small compared to the others, and in a way his sister and himself were small too, but Sykes was certainly the smallest.

He was actually glad that they weren't going to the stream. He just wanted to go to the meadow, that's where mother said they would be going, no sense in getting too adventurous on their first outing from the clearing. He looked from Lapin, to Syrrin, then to the other foals and then finally back to his mother. This was going to be fun but at the same time he was planning to stick close to his mother and siblings. He wondered about what they would find in the meadow. He had heard his parents talk about things that could be found outside of the grove they had spent all their time in since emerging from their baskets but they also told him those things weren't always there. Would they see any animals? Or some neat plants? What would they learn today? He looked towards his siblings with a smile, this was going to be a good experience for all of them.

It was amazing the size difference between the foals. She could remember being very small when she had been young and while all of her children had that trait to a certain extent it was most obvious when looking at Sykes. He had been so small when he had emerged from his basket that Whisper had worried he might be sick. But it was soon proven that he simply carried her smallness within him and that he was as healthy as the rest. Her gaze moved to Syrrin who moved a bit closer and then she looked at Lapin who addressed the issue of the stream before she could. "We must do as Lapin says and stay away from the stream for now." Then her gaze moved to Blossom. "Sweetie a stream is water that follows a certain path, it can be somewhat deep in areas and very shallow at other parts. It's not a place to play unless myself, your father, or another adult is there to watch you."

She remembered hearing about Olo's rescue from the stream when he had been a young foal and she did not want her children to have a similar experience, even if it had turned out good at the end. She looked to Syrrin. "Would you like to come with us Syrrin?" Though she made it sound like it was an option the look in her eye would be enough to tell Syrrin she expected him to come along, an extra set of eyes would be good with five foals. Whisper then looked at Pembroke. "Your father may be along later, he's on a patrol at the moment."

The colt had heard of this stream place before and he was excited by the idea of going it. However, it seemed as if that wouldn't be happening. At least, not with Whisper and his father around. Symric gave his sister a mischievous look and started the gears turning in his head. Their own meadow was fairly small and he had grown bored with it, he doubted that their outing would prove to be terribly exciting. However, the colt would go along with the group for the time being. Perhaps he and his sister would get a chance to sneak away for a while earlier, but they would have to wait for the appropriate timing. Until then, he would have to bide his time and keep quiet.

Sykes had flicked an ear towards Syrrin's suggestion about curiosity, but had dismissed it without replying to her. As far as he was concerned, there was lots of time to do a bit of everything. Why did she want to go do all those things now? Why was she always wanting to do more than their parents told them they were allowed to do. It wasn't like they were only allowed to sit on their rumps and not move from that spot! They had some space to play and wrestle and stuff. Why wasn't that enough?

Stream? He, too, tilted his head curiously to one side as he gazed up at his mother to hear what it was. He liked water, but it sounded like it could be dangerous, too, so he was glad they were going to avoid it for now. Maybe when he got a little bigger, maybe then he would go see the stream. He was in no rush.

Sykes gathered his sturdy hooves and stood at attention, facing the way he thought they were about to go, whether or not he was correct was a whole 'nother story. Ears perked, fuzzy tail as fuzzy as ever and eyes bright, the colt was ready. Especially hearing that their father might come along too! What better way to explore new places but with the whole family! He took but a moment to glance back at Lapin, but finding a relieved expression on her face he gave her a wink and a silly face before looking over to Whisper for her to lead the way.

Synder let out a deep and much put upon sigh as both of her Aunt's seemed against going to the stream..and she knew better then to bother trying to beg her father, if anything he was even more over protective then her Aunts. What did a foal have to do around here to have a little bit of fun. Giving Lapin and Whisper a big doe eyed look she let her head drop and shuffled over as if weighed down by a great and utter sadness. Maybe if they felt sorry for her they would give in..or at least suggest they do something more exciting then just wandering around the bigger meadow..which Synder was pretty sure was going to be just as boring as this little meadow.

"Fiiine...I guess I'll wait until I'm older to have any fun." She stated in a utterly defeated voice, rudely nudging her brother so that he'd take her cues and pick up the act.

Water that moved along a pathway..that was interesting, so far they had only been allowed to play by the small pool here in the grove and according to her Uncle Syrrin that was really little more then a 'puddle'..still when both her mother and Lapin stated that it could be dangerous Blossom was more then happy to not go there. The big meadow was going to be adventure enough thanks!

"Whats in the meadow mother?" She asked excitedly, ignoring the older foals as they sulked, her own excitement making her all but miss it completely. Trotting in a small circle she nipped her bothers. "Are we taking the big path? Or the Little path?" She asked in reference to the two pathways that she had discovered coming to and from the little grove..one was tiny and shaded, the other much larger and clearer. She rather hoped they were taking the larger path..the smaller one was a touch on the creepy side as far as she was concerned.

Syrrin knew an 'order' when he heard one..even one that was given in a gentle and unobtrusive fashion..and he didn't need his sisters dagger like stare to remind him to look out for his kids either. It was annoying his sisters stare..but Syrrin tried not to let his ornery nature get the better of him around the foals...he wanted them to be happy, he didn't want them to see him grumping around all the time. Still it was very..very..hard to keep from snapping at others once in a while.

"Of course I'll come along, I wouldn't miss the foals first big outing for anything." he said cheerfully enough as he gave Lapin a slight nod to let her know he would keep an eye on the two older foals. Seeing Synder sulking he gave her a nudge. "buck up kid, theres plenty to do in the big meadow. I'm sure Whisper has some things in mind."

Lapin wasn't sure what to make of the wink and silly face that Sykes threw her way so she just shrugged her shoulders as the colts attention returned to his mother and listened to the conversation. She was glad that Whisper was recruiting Syrrin to go along on this little outing as it would give her some alone time. Come to think of it, if everything went well on this trip to the meadow then there was no reason for the foals to continue to stay in her clearing, they could go to their respective parents clearings. That thought brought a smile to Lapin, sure she had enjoyed having them here but getting her clearing back and returning to her normal duties would be a pleasant thing.

"You know," she began once the talking had died down, loud enough to get everyone's attention. "Barring any injuries the foals will be free to move to their parents clearings today. They are strong enough now and none of them have any illnesses that require my attention." She let her gaze sweep over all the foals. "So if you are careful,"she paused and looked specifically at Synder and Symric, "there will be no reason to come back here when you are done in the meadow."

There was already so much going on, the adults were talking, his siblings and cousins were talking, well all of them except Sykes, but he rarely spoke. Come to think of it he couldn't remember his brother speaking ever. Oh well, Lapin didn't think it was a problem so it must be normal or something. Of course what really got his attention was hearing that not only would they get to go out into the meadow today but they would get to move out of the healer clearing and in with their parents. Excitement thrummed through Pembroke and he danced from hoof to hoof as he waited for them to start their day.

Whisper couldn't help but smile at Synder, she certainly took after her father quite a bit, as did Symric, which is why she had recruited Syrrin to come along. If not she would have brought Lapin or another herd member. With so many foals to keep track of there needed to be more than one set of eyes watching them. "You may be surprised how quickly you will reach the age when you can do things Synder." She had remembered her own mother telling her she had to wait til she was bigger/older and it had felt like it only took a day or two to reach that point in her life where she could do all those things.

Turning her attention to her daughter Whisper tried best to explain what awaited for them in the meadow. "Well, there is grass, lots of it, flowers, bushes, small animals, insects, rocks. You'd be amazed by all that you can see and do in the meadow." Her gaze turned to Lapin as the mare gave her announcement about the foals. "Oh that's wonderful Lapin, I've been wanting so badly to bring them to our clearing." Olo would be thrilled with this news as well. "Now come along then children, and mind what Lapin says or you'll end up back here." Her gaze settled upon Blossom as she began to walk. "We will take the larger path dear, with so many of us going that path would be best to use." Giving each of her children a small loving nudge Whisper led the way towards the larger path, leaving Syrrin to wrangle his two children and take up the end.
PostPosted: Thu Jun 13, 2013 3:47 pm

Symric wasn't sure what to think about the news. Going to their father's clearing might be more enjoyable than being at this one, but this large meadow just sounded so boring. He gave a heavy sigh as he caught onto his sister's hints. Perhaps if they looked pathetic enough and behaved they would still take them to the stream. If not... well he might have to find a way to entertain himself then.

The foal had seen a few other animals before and a few flowers. As far as he was concerned, this new meadow would be just as boring as the last one, only bigger. If something was bigger did that make it worse or better? He supposed it might change depending on the situation, in this case he doubted it would be better though. Sticking close to his sister he filed into line.
