Most residents were huddled around Pride Rock to gossip about and admire the new prince, but not So. He was immune to royal fever and planned to take full advantage of everyone being preoccupied. The less predators out in the fields, the less chance a younger, better hunter would chase off the prey beasts before he had a shot at catching a meal for himself.
Unfortunately, luck wasn't on his side even if the circumstances were. So had pursued several different stragglers and come up empty-pawed every time. He was out of breath and about ready to give up when he realized he'd crossed the borders into the roguelands.
There he stood, panting and looking around him as the herd of zebra became mere specks in the distance.

Ahava was out and about today like she normally was, she was out doing whatever she wanted to do. She was by herself though, which was a little out of place for her. Normally she was with her mother. She didn't get away from her mother's side that often, she loved her mother but it was very often that she liked to wander around and see something by herself. She was a very independent lioness and she liked to do her own thing and wander around.
But today was she wandered she ran into something that she normally didn't run into. Another lion. She was a little happy to see another, she knew that some company was something that was going to be pretty nice and she was going to enjoy. She trotted up by the male and paused looking at the male. "Hey!" She called out to him, he looked tired and she didn't really understand what was wrong with him. Why did he look so tired? She paused looking toward the Zebra's that were in the distance. Was he having a hard time with those? that was a little amusing to her. If he was a rogue that was even more sad, everyone had to be able to catch stuff on their own. Or at least that was the way her mind worked anyway. Then again she didn't understand that he normally had teamwork being from a pride.

Criticism had never been kind to So. It left him with a hollow, sick feeling in his chest. Logically, he had better odds with another hunter to cover any blind spots, but he just couldn't bring himself to risk a bad review and the queasiness that would follow.
So shrugged at the lioness. He turned his head to get a good look at her. Blue. Pretty. Not anyone he recognized, but the Pridelands had so many members...
"Hey." Time for a distracting topic. One not about zebras or his lack of hunting prowess. "How you doing?"
Nailed it.

Ahava was waiting for the answer of the lion, he was interesting looking lion. She had seen many different lions while traveling, but there was something just more interesting about the male. But as she started to smell the air she realized that he must be part of some kind of pride that wasn't too far off. She turned to speak to him, about to comment about how he wasn't speaking when he finally did.
His question was odd and at first she was confused because of it. Why was he asking about how she was doing? She said nothing about that? Not only that but she didn't even know him. "Well, I'm doing pretty well, and you?" She asked back trying to be polite. "Beside who are you?" She commented curiously.

So was known to be respectful of personal space and left a sizable patch of grass between them. He wouldn't have considered anything he did strange. You met someone new, you struck up a conversation. That was just being polite.
Introducing yourself was too. Silly him for lagging behind on his etiquette.
"The name's So," he offered. "And you? Don't recall seeing you around the Pridelands before."

She would agree for sure that the lion had some good manners. She couldn't say that she had the same manners that was for sure. She was confident, well honestly a little arrogant and it went hand in hand with her being not so nicely mannered. She turned toward him and then back toward the Zebras for a moment thinking about if they should go after them, she wasn't that sure.
But then his question caught her attention again. "Oh! The Pridelands?" She questioned she had no idea that she was this close to a pride. "Well that's because I've never been in the pridelands. I'm pretty new around here." She spoke followed by a toothy grin. "Pride men are always so interesting."

That explained it. So wasn't too disheartened by the absence of a name. If she was a passing rogue, this would be their first and last encounter. He'd enjoy the moment for what it was: a crisp and cogent discussion with a stranger. He smiled at her comment (pride lions were interesting, hm? If she insisted.), told her, "You're nearly in them now. You'd be able to tell most of the time, but everyone is busy getting a look at the new prince."

It was pretty true that normally a rogue encounter was very much quick and not likely to ever happen again. On the other hand though Ahava was interesting she was the type that would wander out to meet others most of the time, and liked to meet others over and over again. She took a second though thinking about it realizing that she didn't tell him her name. "So, huh?" She paused and then nodded to him. "My name is Ahava." She then listened to the next thing that he said. "A new Prince huh? Others are upset about it?" She then paused once again before smiling. "What is your pride like?" She was always very interested when she ran into others, especially from prides because each and every lion was different and those from prides were especially different.

Ahava. A good name for a daughter. Perhaps he'd commit it to memory for one of his future offspring.
"They might be," So replied thoughtfully. She was astute, this Ahava, to assume there was a quarrel over their new monarch. He hadn't yet stopped to contemplate that some of the members might feel ousted by this shift in power. The future king was still young. A cub, really. They'd all have the time they needed to adjust.
"The Pridelands?" Did she really not know? He was under the impression tales of his birthplace had been told far and wide. Of Mufasa, the greatest king to ever life. Of the verdant wonderland with plentiful prey and peace -- for the most part. "Green. Very green. With a good sense of... family? Nothing exciting most days, but you learn to appreciate that. There's no other place like it."

Her ears flicked as she thought. "It sounds like many prides get upset when there are new leaders. There are always some one out there that isn't happy about things like that, or at least that is what I hear." She paused thinking about it. "My mom is part of a pride and she just became a leader and no one seems to be that happy with her or the other leader."
she paused scratching behind her ear with her back paw before speaking again. "Hmm that sounds interesting." She then stood and stared at him before speaking. "Show me" She said simply motioning toward where the pride was. "Show me your pride take me on a tour."

Yin-Bug Sorry about the wait. lolhiatus. Let me know if/when you want to do a follow up to this. I think we can end this one here. <3 Show her? Right now? With the prince being put on display? So didn't see any reason not to any other day, but... Nevermind. Why not? Maybe it would work in their favor and they'd be able to move about easier with everyone grouping in a single area.
"All right. Follow me." He decided the watering hole was an ideal place to start and started off toward it.
