Born with the blood of two rogue parents in her veins, it was no wonder Koko had a wanderlust only experience could pacify. Add to that imagination had never been her strong suit. Her sister could close her eyes while they were told story after story, picturing the scene with acute detail. Koko did the same and saw only darkness. It became clear if she wanted to see the world, she'd have to bare witness to it first hand.
Her only regrets so far? Not taking into account how hard it was to hunt alone, how inhospitable the rogue population could be, and how the desert's sweltering heat dropped to frigid temperatures throughout the night.
None the less, the lioness continued her trek through the sand, hungry and benumbed by cold. The Dawnwalkers had to be close, didn't they?
She nearly squealed with glee at the sight of a figure in the distance.
"Hey! Hey! Can you hear me?! Over here!"

The lion's parents were too rogues, they also spent a good amount of their life in the rogue lands before settling into a pride that was now no more. Many of the members had now dispersed at this point. This included his parents but him, he was just now starting to wander away from the pride. He felt lost. He spent his entire life in this pride and he now didn't know what to do since everyone else was gone. He didn't want to leave the pride and he didn't want to go off on his own He hated this idea so much he just wasn't that sure of what to do with himself.
His head was lowered as he walked, not too sure of what else to say. The lion just was feeling worse and worse every day about the pride being disbanded. He just wanted to continue to live in the pride that he grew up in. But now there was no longer a pride and not only that but he now was a little lost, unsure and confused. How did he find himself with out what was soo familiar to him. As he wandered something caught his attention. The sound of another voice hit his ears, they perked in reaction and he then turned to the voice calling out to him.
He arched his brow as he looked at the lioness. "Hello there!" He called back. He decided the best thing to do was to be polite to the female no matter how upset he was he wasn't going to let it rub off on another.

Had Koko known he was in a foul mood, she would have commended him for not lashing out at strangers. A passerby wouldn't have guessed they were unfamiliar with each other, though, what with the way she eagerly approached; not so much as a pause in her gait.
She heard talk of the desert and how it played tricks on the mind. It showed you things that weren't really there. What was the word? Mir-something? A superstitious lion once swore they were instead spirits bound to every grain of sand.
Koko was not yet convinced this wasn't a figment of her imagination or an apparition come to haunt her. That was why, upon reaching Bakari, she lifted a paw to press against his forehead.
Just to be sure.

The male had truly never been so confused in his life as he watched the lioness walk up to him with out any fear. He was surprised that the lioness was just wandering up to him and didn't even seem to care that he was possibly dangerous. Either way he was not only surprised but a little pleased that she had the guts. It was nice seeing another lion in a place where he hadn't seen any in a long time was extremely exciting to him.
But the lioness not only walked up to him but she then put her paw on to his forehead. His tail flicked behind him and he stared blankly. He was unsure of what to say to the lioness other than, "Are you okay?"

In meeting with strangers Koko's inclination was go to them rather than away from them. Easy to fancy her some emboldened individual when, in fact, she was as fallible a lioness as any other mortal. Her bravery was born from ignorance as opposed to charisma. There was no fear of strangers where she came from. Those unfriendly sorts she had met so far were not near enough to sway her away from a lifetime of habit.
She had gotten lucky once again encountering this male and not one less patient with her antics. Something Koko was blissfully unaware of.
"Yes," she replied. Her paw dropped back to the sand. "You're the first lion I've seen out here in... I don't remember. Do you know the way to the Dawnwalkers? That's where I'm trying to go."

This brave lioness was quite the sight to see. He never had seen a stranger just wander up to him. Sure he had spent a good amount of his life wandering around the pride lands where he wasn't exposed to many strangers but from what he understood they weren't all friendly like this.
At first it didn't surprise him that he was the first lion that she had seen out here, he was about to comment on that until she added more to it. A little frown grew on her face with her next question. He couldn't believe some one was out here to find the Dawnwalkers. A small laugh escaped his mouth before speaking. "Well," another laugh came out of his mouth. "This is it." He said sitting down on his haunches and using his paw to motion toward the surrounding area.

This?
This couldn't be it. There was no 'this' to be 'it.' Sand, sun, and sky far as the eye could see. What of the lions? Koko checked once to see if there were any others straggling behind this one and found nothing. Her first conclusion made perfect sense, though it was not correct. "Are you a guard? I just want to come look around."
They must be on the borders, she reasoned. To try and sway him she donned her best, most sincere grin, which showed a few too many teeth and looked more ridiculous than charming.

Ridiculous was quite the word to explain her expression right now. Did she knot know what happened to the pride? He had no clue, but if she did being charming wasn't going to make the pride appear. He knew that he couldn't do anything. If he could he would! He wanted the pride back to normal he had no clue what was happening one bit and it scared him and made him upset! He stared at her for a few moments hoping that she was kidding before speaking to her.
"It doesn't exist anymore." It was harsh, he wasn't that great with words some times but he didn't know what else to say. "It hasn't been around in a little while. I don't know where anyone went." His voice became a little defeated, his family even left to go start a new life elsewhere.

In the silence, Koko had started to piece together what was really going. The Ela had welcomed more than one refuge from disbanded prides, felled by diseases, unfit leaders, floods, or worse. She had heard about far more of them than she'd met, but she knew these things happened. Far away.
Only far away was up close and personal now.
Koko's ears pinned back and she looked discouraged on his behalf. Being a rogue by necessity probably wasn't as fun as being one by choice -- Gods, being one by your own free will wasn't fun as it looked! "I'm sorry, I didn't know," she said sincerely. A certain word resonated with her more than the others. "Anyone? You're out here all alone?"

Bakari took a moment to take in a deep breath to think about the lioness's appology. She didn't know it and he couldn't hold that against her. He couldn't hold his anger for everything going wrong against her. She didn't know and she also didn't mean to make him upset his tail behind him.
He paused to think about her next question. "I see some others some times. No one I really knew enough to talk to them, and honestly everyone is kind of.... lost." There was no other word for describing how everyone that he had run into was acting. "They just don't know what to do with themselves. He sighed and then shrugged. "I don't know what to do really."

Lost, hm? "My great-grandmother is Goddess of the Lost," Koko provided, a bit boastfully. Who wouldn't take some pride in being so closely related to one of Africa's deities? She hadn't mentioned it just to be a braggart though, and she went on to say, "I bet I can find her and she can help you."
She knew her behavior might be seen as brazen, but on the other paw, it was sensible. Hunting as a solo predator was difficult and being lonely could really take a toll on the body and mind. "What do you say? You don't want to stay out here forever, do you?"

She was related to the Goddess of the Lost? A look of surprise grew on his face. He wasn't expecting her to say that. "Really?" He asked curiously, that was interesting to be related to a goddess Notonly that but she was offering help to him by meeting the goddess. He wasn't that sure of what to think about it but as she talked she brought up a good point. He really didn't want to spend forever here.
He stared at her for a moment before starting to talk "You're right, I don't want be here forever." She started to nod he stood up a smile at her. "Show me the way I guess?" He said simply there really wasn't a point in resisting he didn't know where his family was he didn't know what to do.
