That was a biiiiig rock! Nuawahn quickly scrambled to the top of it to look out at a new angle on the forest of Jahuar. It didn't reveal anything he didn't already know- this was a big place, easy to evade caretakers and full of things to explore and investigate, as well as things to climb when things got a bit scary. Fear didn't last long with Nuawahn, and twice now he had tracked a radaku that had tired of trying to get to him and had been wary of La'amu's horns and threats to its next prey. Now nuawahn knew he didn't like violence. He winced when the radaku struck its prey, and it hadn't made him very happy at all. But he knew the radaku needed to eat meat, and that sometimes he did too. Didn't mean he liked it. Anyway, big rock. Sort of just sitting here in the middle of the jungle, moss and lichen cloaking it. He perched on top, grinning. "It's a bit like Sauti, isn't it Amma?" he said, looking down at his Capramel caretaker, the only one he didn't always evade.
La'amu stared impassively at her notcalf as he decided to climb something again. She shook a bit of mud off her hoof before deciding to refill her mouth with something grassy to chew on until he tired of his rock.

From up high in the treetops, everything seemed so tiny and feeble, at least to the eyes of a child. Tahigwa had been watching the paths, as usual, scouting for her big brother's daily visit. She wasn't always sure what time he was coming to see her, so it was best to start bright and early than later in the day. She leaped from tree to tree and peered out from every nook and cranny she could find, hoping to see him. Nope. Nothing but some weird kid playing on a giant rock.
Wait, what?
"Hey! I haven't seen anyone like YOU before!" She squealed, leaping down from the tree. She studied La'amu for a second before scaling the rock and staring straight into Nuawahn's face. "Whooaaa..." She muttered, reaching out to touch his hair. "You hair nice hair! It's like gold thread!"

"Hiiii!" he said, a little startled, but unafraid, inclining his head so she could touch his hair- he liked his hair too. "Mama says it's like sunlight spun into wool." he said proudly, "An' you can stick things in it" he put a twig into his mane, just to show, before taking it out again. "You have really nice hair too!" he reached out to tap a dreadlock, "Tahiras hair isn't like that." he said, thoughtfully, "It's golden and flowy- like mine. But her Mama's hair is like yours!" Well, the alkidike one anyway. She had two mommies! Tahira was so lucky, not that dads were bad. But he loved his momma, and he wished there were two of her. But she was back in Sauti anyway. He knew where babies come from usually, so he thought that it should be odd that Tahira had two mommies, but Alkidikes came from flowers, so of course they would have two mommies, because that meant they would all be pretty and... his logic started to fall apart. "How do you get your hair to do that?" he asked, curious.

Tahigwa tilted her head at this new boy she had found, who's hair was apparently spun from whatever the sun was made of. She watched as he rambled on and on about some girl named Tahira and his mother and her mother, and didn't know quite what to make of any of the words he was saying. Perhaps he was talking about a hybrid girl who was a relative of his? If so, she had no idea who he was talking about, but remained intrigued by everything else about him. He was pretty, pretty like a ball of sunshine, with two big aqua colored eyes that reminded her of the ocean at the edge of Jauhar. Who was this kid? Why was he here? How did he get here?
Could she bring him home and keep him forever?
"My mother made my hair like this!" She exclaimed, flipping one of her ponytails around from her front to her back. "Almost all Alkidikes have hair like mine, except for people who are hybrids." She paused, nodding to herself, and smiled at Nua. "Soooo, what's your name, Goldie?"

"Really?" ooo, that made sense. They were from flowers, so they had vine hair! But she said that her mother made hers like that... hmmm... "Can you put beads in it?" It looked like the sort of thing you could make necklaces out of. And bracelets. He reached over to play with the ponytail. It was so thick and big and cool! "Then thats why Tahira doesn't have them. 'Caz she's got a wind tribe mama." he said, almost triumphantly, not more than a bit thoughtfully. "Bet her hair would look nice like that though!"
He grinned. "I'm Nuawahn!" he said, and he pointed, "And that's La'amu. She takes care of me. She had thick fluffy fur and she lets me hug her." he was proud of that part. "You can call me Goldie, though! I like it! People call me Nu. My cousin calls me Neuy, but she's the only one and I don't mind! It makes her special!" he thought for a moment. Where was Suen, anyway? Probably in Sauti! He didn't know! And that was okay! "So if it was just you who called me Goldie, it would be special too!" he tilted his head, "What about you? I can't think of a nickname." nicknames weren't his strong suit. He called people whatever they told him to call them. Then he hugged them. It had worked so far.

Tahi still had no idea who he was talking about, but paid no mind to it. He was pretty cute, with his golden hair, she'd never seen anything like it before! "Yeah, I can put beads in it, if I wanted to." She nodded, leaning to the side as he touched her pig tail. Neeeh, he touched her! ...Why was that such a big deal? She played with everyone's hair! He should be allowed to do the same! ... Without her feeling embarrassed, that is.
"She's so cool!" She squealed, motioning to La'amu. She herself had a fluffy companion back home that she loved very much, her Roati, Najden. Najden didn't like to run around as much as she did, so she stayed home with Nyah most of the time, but would come running if Tahigwa wasn't home by dawn. The little ball of fluff thought she was Tahigwa's mother, which was hilarious!
"Okay, Goldie!" Tahigwa nodded, smirking towards Nua. This kid had a lot of nicknames! He must be a troublemaker, like her. How else could he have earned all of those nicknames? She adjusted her footing upon the rock and grinned, before moving to fluff his hair again. "My name is Tahigwa! You could call me Tahi, though." She said. "Unless you can think of something else."

"Tahi? I like Tahi. Tahi is a really good nickname." he said, wholeheartedly, "It sounds nice and I can put more sound at the end. Tahiiiiii. Like that. You can't do that to Nuawahn... Nuawahnnnn? But you can do it to Goldie." he nodded as if it was the most insightful thing in the world. "So... I'll call you Tahi."
La'amu watched these antics from the bottom of the rock. It was a bit too much energy for her to handle. Well, now. Clearly she had to summon up the energy to jump on the rock and investigate. With a tired, long-suffering jump her hooves clattered on the rock. She gave Tahigwa a sniff.
Nuawahn liked his hair being played with. It felt nice. People didnt play with it often, and he wished they did it more. It also revealed his round ear which would probably be like nothing Tahigwa had seen before, though the boy wasn't conscious of that. "Ooo! She wants to say hi! She doesn't mind being petted. She doesn't like things on her nose, though." commented Nuawahn. ”She really likes her neck rubbed...”

Tahigwa leaned back a tad bit as La'amu sniffed her, but stayed calm enough to know she wasn't in any danger. She giggled and reached forward to pat her on the forehead, only to freeze and nod at Nua. Okay, no petting her on the nose or the face, then. That was doable! She reached around La'amu's neck and quickly set to scratching her, grinning towards Nua as she did.
"She's really soft!" She exclaimed. "My Roati doesn't go everywhere with me like La'amu. She stays home with my baby sister and tries to keep her from getting into trouble." She paused, sighing. "Sometimes she thinks her mommies are taking her on a walk in the forest, but they've been dead for a long time, so I don't know why she thinks they're with her..." She shrugged. "I guess she has a big imagination..."

La'amu snorted, but allowed the petting. No, she didn't lean in a little towards the little hands, no not at all. She totally wasn't enjoying it. Of course she was only tolerating it. Of course she was.
"Mmhmm! She's really soft and she makes a great pillow!" he knew! When he had to make camp or sleep in someone else's house, he liked to put his head on her. Her stomach made gurgly sounds and it was nice. Her tummy sang him to sleep and she was nice to wake up to when he had nightmares. If he had nightmares. "She keeps nightmares away." he added, proud. "You have a roati?" he liked roati! They were fluffy too, and very sweet. He'd asked mom if he could have one as a pet, and she had told him no. And he supposed she was right- he had Amma. "You have a baby sister?" that was awesome too! He liked people, even if they were babies... especially if they were babies. He twisted his hair experimentally, trying to see what it would look like if it was a bit more like hers. "If your roati isn't keeping you out of trouble, do you get in trouble?" he asked, curious, "Trouble isn't fun. Grown ups get angry about little things sometimes, and that isn't fun." He pouted a little, "Sometimes grown ups get too serious and don't like fun. Even Amma." he gave her a pet. He paused, thinking about something else she had said. "Does your sister have three mommies, too? Tahira has three mommies. She has an Alkidike mommy, a Wind tribe mommy, and she told me that all alkidikes come from flowers from a mommy tree..." he pondered La'amu's fur as his logic went in odd directions. "It must be hard to have three grownups. Sometimes they get unhappy and... and... I don't know how you would cheer up a mommy tree..." He had no idea.

"Yep, though she's adopted." Tahigwa nodded, scratching La'amu as she did. "Her real mommies died somehow when she was littler and no one knows why. We think they got sick and slept for so long that they didn't wake up..." She frowned, her eyes growing a little distant. Yeah, then the elders made her mother stay inside all the time because she got sick after visiting Nyah in her old house. Stupid elders, stupid sickness...
She shook her head to clear her thought and peered curiously at Nua as her spoke, this boy was a bucket of questions, wasn't he? "Weeell, Nyah had two mommies, then she got my mom, and then aunt Arjeta could be called a mom, I guess..." She tapped her chin and gazed upwards, pondering the idea. "But Aisha never comes over here to visit, 'cause she's a tree and can't move, but she's supposed to be nice..."

Sickness? Sickness was bad. He had been sick too, and it hadn't been good... What he could remember of it anyway! he frowned, pondering for a moment. "If she's nice, I bet she's sad, not being able to move." he said finally, wondering. "I was sick too. I dunno how long. It was really odd, I think." He didn't actually know. The fuzziness made everything go away... "Everything felt warm and fuzzy, and it hurt to think..." A sudden idea struck him. "What if she's following echoes, Tahi?" he said, suddenly, "What if her Mommies left echoes behind and she's following them into the woods?" Did Jahuar have echoes? He whistled once and listened. "Well, maybe not echoes..." he said, disappointed. He loved echoes. you could have a conversation with a mountain. "But something like an echo?"

Tahigwa pursed her lips a little. An echo? What was he talking about? If Nyah were hearing echoes, would she hear them, too? She shrugged her shoulders and shook her head, at a loss for what to say. But, as she pondered the thought a little more, her eyes widened. What if Nyah was seeing spirits?! The thought made her cringe. Spirits weren't always good!
"What if she's being haunted?!" Tahigwa squeaked. "That wouldn't be good!"

Haunted? Haunted wasn't good, but that wasn't what he meant... was it? Was that what spirits were? Echoes of people going on and on and on forever? "Ahh!" he said suddenly! No that wouldn't be good at all! "We should help her!" he said earnestly. "Haunting isn't good! They should be happy and resting with Chi..." Wait. Did Alkidikes go to Bergchi when they died? He didn't know! It would make sense if there was one place for everybody to go when they died! He should ask someone about it. But either way spirits weren't there and they were supposed to be there, not here! Momma had told him stories of spirits and some of them were so scary! "What do we do, Tahi?" She was older, she would know! And then there would be an adventure!

Tahigwa's emotions copied that of Nua's and went straight into panic mode. If he was scared about Nyah hearing voices, then Nyah must really be in danger! She knew nothing concrete about ghosts or spirits, she was just a kid! The idea of facing a spirit alone was... Was...
Actually, it sounded pretty freaking cool.
"We should try to exercise her!" She cried. "That's how people get rid of bad spirits!"
