Late afternoon sun cast a soft glow over the training grounds as Natasha worked her way around a dummy. She punched and kicked, trying to concentrate. Focus, speed - well, just about everything, really - had cost her the spar with Peyton, and it was another in a long line of wake up calls. The island was dangerous - her outing with Jerry had made that all too clear - and if the older Sun's scars were anything to go by, their missions would be even more deadly.
Gnat punched the dummy one last time, and it shuddered under the blow. Lately, she had been feeling like she had a lot to live for.

Rep, finally finishing off his Life duties for the day, finally had time to head out to the training fields, and did so, following the usual route he could walk with his eyes closed to the only place on the whole ******** island where it was fine to beat the s**t out of the deserving. Or where it had been anyway.
hungry> The angel spent most of each day complaining at him, the longing almost painful, a dull ache that tormented him and distracted him from everything he was doing. He'd started to have very vivid dreams, very vivid and bloody dreams where he cut a swathe through the island for the desperate need of fear.
Striding out onto the fields he summoned the massive axe, his runes dim and desperate, pulsing faintly along with Rep's own heartbeat.
It was only when he got to the dummies he realised he wasn't actually alone. Gnat was a Sun, he was not, she actually had a ******** right to be here. He set the axe on the ground. "No interrupting anything am I?"

Gnat glanced up - oh. Wow. That was a big ******** axe.
"Not a thing, Geraldine," she responded in a sing-song voice. She left out her less-than-wise pet name. I mean, really though, that was a ******** huge axe. She tried not to stare.

Rep was slightly off put by the way Gnat reacted, not sure why she would. He was so used to the island he forgot some things weren't common everywhere.
"Geraldine. My name is ******** Rep." he said suspiciously, before trying to conciously remind himself to be at least semi pleasant. "Training, I guess?"
He was so ******** awkward at conversations that weren't entirely composed of insults.

"Yep," she replied.
She kept punching things, for lack of anything better to do, and fell silent while trying to brainstorm a way to make this less weird.
Hey, guy who tried to kill me at this one party.
Haha, remember all those times I called you Gingersnaps when I didn't know you were an axe murderer?
Like literally though, you could murder someone with that axe.
"You? You know what they say," she added finally. "All work an' no play makes jack a dull boy."

Rep watched her in complete silence for a bit, because nothing said friendly like staring at someone while your weapon purred in your head about how good it would feel to just ******** swing already. He wondered if this was how bitches on a diet felt when they stood outside a cake shop and just tried to devour cake through ******** diffusion.
"No s**t." he said, after deliberation. He was feeling sympathetic with the guy in the Shining lately, he wondered if he had a half mad fallen angel in his head too.
All work and no fear makes Tracey a dull whatever the ******** he is.
Tracey snapped, in no mood for Rep's s**t today.
"Dummies aren't very ******** good for training. It's always better to spar you know."

Gnat turned to face him, hands on her hips, matching him stare for stare. Well, except she was staring at his weapon, which gleaming and glowy and dark and s**t and really quite dramatic. It was kind of fitting.
She considered it. After all, what was the worst that could happen? It was just a friendly spar. Somewhere in the back of her mind she remembered her conversation with Tuck - but training with a teammate had to be safer than a romp in the jungle with killer plants. Besides, if she beat his a** she would seriously never let him live it down. Never ever.
"True. You offerin'?"
The idea of facing off against someone so intimidating, even with the veneer of safety, sent a tingle of fear and anticipation down her spine. She grinned nervously.

Rep gave Gnat a toothy smirk. "Sure I'm offering."
Tracey snarled with every single bit of fury and loathing he possessed. It was enough by sheer force of will to make him tighten his grip of the axe, but not enough to make him actually swing it.
"I'll have to be barehanded though." he said, making a face. "I'm no allowed to ******** fight using Tracey."

Gnat frowned. "Why not? That's dumb."
Edward was already summoned and encapsulating her hand, his runes pulsing softly.
It seems your little friend is neutered.
Shut up, a*****e.

"It's the ******** dumbest." Rep agreed.
"I'm no allowed to fight with him because I keep almost ******** killing people by mistake. You chop off one ******** person's arm, maim a few others and suddenly you have to deal with starving half to ******** death."
taste of it. I bet she tastes sweet and warm.>
"It's no fun on your weapon." he shrugged. "Whatever though, those are the rules I guess."

Almost killing people, maiming, cutting arms off...
This guy was legitimately crazy.
"Whatever you say, boss."
Well, it was way too late to back down now. She rolled her shoulders and tried to relax, clenching and unclenching her fists.

With a flourish of his hand and a keening sound of distress from Tracey in his head, Rep dismissed the axe. He hated to do it and Tracey hated him doing it even more.
Trying to focus, he brought up his own bare fists just in time to take the blow from Gnat hard against his forearm, he felt even the small bite of his shield acutely.
Please.>
He ignored the demon completely. "Basically you get your weapon hooked enough on live fear. Any kind of fear. They can get a bit ******** crazy. Tracey wants so badly to fight live s**t I feel like I'm a ******** junkie."

"Sounds like it sucks." Understatement of the year. She tried another swing, adding, "Was it your fault, or did they just, like-" she searched for the phrase Peyton had used - "not tap out?"
That was cause for concern. She could have really gotten the other woman into trouble, and she felt slightly ashamed.

"Some of them didn't tell me when they were ******** low health. Others... well." he flexed his shoulders. "My fear is unstable. I call it Problems because that's what it is and what it causes. It didn't matter what their shields were at with it."
He lashed out with an edge of frustration. "Regardless its always ******** worth it to warn when your shield is low." Melvin hadn't and it had landed him in the infirmary from a fist fight.
