Chaonis was not in the best mood.
His home life was just infuriating. Did his parents know how obnoxious they were? Yeah, fine, the baby was almost due and everyone was starting to really panic about it, but come on. Kyndall had a kid before so it was not like it was something new to her, and thought Tony had not been there to help raise his son, he had a kid anyway. So why were they flipping out about this one?
Chaonis felt like he was too old to be having these feelings of worry. He was worried about what? Not being good enough for his absentee dad and his step mom? Being replaced in a family that he had purposefully already distanced himself from?
Whatever. He did not have to explain it to himself or anyone else.
He was leaping blindly over buildings, running as fast as he could. He was letting his anger get the better of him and he was pushing himself hard. Way too hard, maybe. His feet could keep up with his instincts far better than he could if he were a normal human, letting him leap terrific distances and heights, but it was the roof tops that failed him. He landed where there was nothing to land on, dropping him like a stone some stories down, crashing to the floor like a meteor.

Nemesis had been out of the game for a while.
She wasn't going to bother explaining her absence to anyone, so it really didn't matter why she had left. The people that mattered to her knew why she had taken a hiatus from her senshi duties. What actually bothered her about her own disappearance was that Destiny City seemed to still be in one piece. The Eternal Senshi of Decay couldn't decide if the Senshi and Knights finally got their s**t together or if the Negaverse had just gotten lazy these past couple of months. Nemesis was still somewhat in the know, though her information sources weren't that great to begin with. Nemesis just knew that right now... everything was all right, so why would she choose now to get back into the grind?
Why decide to patrol every night as Sailor Nemesis when all she would be doing is beating the snot out of newbie Negaversers? Nemesis was a little concerned that if she didn't start now, she would never show her face again in this little war of good versus evil. It was so easy to get swept up by her life as Delphine Amary, so that when she was Delphine it was so much harder to return back to being Nemesis.
Her mind was definitely preoccupied that evening - she had noted a few energy signals around her, but they were all good so there was little point in hunting them down. Nemesis stuck to the alleyways, maintaining a route she had abandoned months ago. It wouldn't surprise her if someone else had taken to the area and kept the Negaverse at bay somewhat. She dismissed the energies fairly quickly and focused on her own business.
So, naturally, one of those energies would find their way to her just to interrupt one of her first nights back at the job. Nemesis was just about to jump over a fence and to another section of an alleyway when she heard someone crash to the ground behind her. The senshi swung around, the tails of her bow whipping against her legs. For a few moments her mind whirled about whether this was a civilian who had decided to suicide off a building or a Negaverse making a surprise landing.
And then she noted who it was, and frowned. ******** asking him if he was all right, he was probably just fine anyways. "Do you make a habit of falling down from great heights?"

Chaonis was getting to his feet when Nemesis approached him. He looked at her and his eyebrows lifted in surprise as he recognized her from quite some time ago. He frowned though, dusting off shards of the ground and the dust he had kicked up.
He had left a good dent in the floor, as well.
"Only when I'm trying to land on someone, but I missed. What are you doing out here? I thought for sure you had died." He hadn't seen her in a long while, after all, so what was she doing here now? Still on their team, it looked like, and not missing any limbs.
She better have a good excuse for vanishing.
He folded his arms over his chest, breathing heavily as he worked to catch his breath and calm himself from his run/jump. He watched her with his keen, dark eyes, sizing her up. In his way, he was glad to see her, if only because she was a symbol of power, an eternal that they needed to help them handle all the newbies and slackers that kept being awakened.

Nemesis arched an impatient, dark brow as Chaonis told her that he thought she had been dead. Just because someone disappears for a length of time certainly doesn't mean the first conclusion someone should jump to was that they had died. Of course, they were in a war, and there were numerous casualties. If you weren't dead, you could be corrupted. Nemesis had put herself in the direct line of danger so many times that it was a miracle that she wasn't dead and hadn't been corrupted. She liked to think that no one tried to corrupt her because they already realized that she would be a detriment to any team she was forced on. In reality, she had been safer these past few months than she had been in a long while.
She wasn't avoiding danger because she was frightened - most of the time Nemesis tackled any and every challenge, even if it was far above her capabilities to handle. Nemesis had some s**t she had to take care of, and now that she felt she was in some control of her life again, she could dive back into the world that felt so much more real than the day-to-day life she carried out. Nemesis was born to be a Senshi. Delphine was born to be a Senshi. "Clearly, I'm still alive, despite your aforementioned attempt to land on me." Nemesis still believed he was just an idiot and had fallen off the edge of a building.
"You've moved up in the world," she mentioned, her tone more mocking than complimentary. The darkly themed senshi gestured to the set of wings sprouting from Chaonis' a**. Nemesis wasn't surprised, nor was she really impressed. It was inevitable that someone like Chaonis would eventually make it to Eternal. It at least meant that he was in this fight to win it - however that did not mean she had to like him.
She still remembered the last time they had run into each other. Okay, so she liked to hold grudges. At least she hated him less because he was Eternal. Senshi newbies drove her absolutely crazy, and for the most part she refused to associate with them. Nemesis wasn't exactly a team player - she left that up to Senshi who were more... sociable.

It seemed a very reasonable conclusion, in Chaonis' mind. After all, there was a terrible war going on, right? And people who could not keep up with the war got themselves killed all the time. Of course, Chaonis was too good for that, but who knew with the others?
He remembered their last meeting, and though he knew she had some skill to back her up, he wasn't willing to be generous and admit that, even in a small way.
"Yeah, well. I won't miss next time, so I guess we'll have to see how long that lasts. Glad to see the negaverse hasn't pulled your starseed, though. We can't afford to lose any more big hitters. Even if they decided to stop hitting for a while." Not that he had any right to assume she'd been gone: just because he hadn't seen her did not mean she was out of the fight. It wasn't like he kept tabs on anyone but himself.
He grinned at her, shaking his head and folding his arms over his chest.
"You're way behind. I've been Eternal for ages. Looks good, right? You still remember what it's like to kick a** and earn those sad little things you call wings, or what?"

"I suppose I will have to be more wary of eternals on rooftops, then," Nemesis replied with a roll of her eyes. To her, Chaonis was still way beneath her in skill. He was certainly better than he was before if he made it to eternal, but Nemesis considered herself to be the best, and she had the experience along with a natural fighting ability. So, she had a fairly massive ego, and though she had her a** handed to her on a few occasions, there seemed to be no way to make a dent in her self-esteem. She felt as if this was what she was living for, to fight as a senshi. It was what had gotten her civilian life into so much trouble - she had neglected it for months on end in favor of being a senshi and doing what was her responsibility. When her civilian life began to fall apart, she had to separate herself from the war in hopes that when this war was won, she'd have a civilian life to return to.
"You look like you're ready to play paintball, not some magical warrior fighting for the Earth's fate," she answered dryly. "Please, Chaonis," oh look! She remembered his name... "Even if I was out of the game for a while, I'd come back still being way ******** better than any Negaverse idiot who is stupid enough to get in my way." There had to be something charming about her confidence, surely. Most people couldn't see it, and she ended up rubbing a lot of individuals the wrong way. If she learned to master her self-confidence and inspire it in others, she'd make a pretty decent leader. However, it didn't seem quite possible for Nemesis to have confidence in others, so how could she make them feel confident when she didn't feel it about them?
"So, are you asking me to come kick a** with you?" She inquired sweetly, leaning back against the fence she had been trying to climb over before Chaonis swooped down onto the scene. Nemesis wasn't really interested, but she could play along with him long enough to exact some vengeance for the s**t he put her through the last time they had encountered one another.

Chaonis laughed at her taunting his looks.
"Hey, at least all my clothes are in order and don't look like they're about to fall off me. Putting on a few pounds, or what? You look like you're bursting through some points." Okay, so her tights had some holes in them. Whatever, that was good enough for him to pick on her for it. And really, this was the kind of relationship they had. He rather liked having someone that was painfully similar to him, because they were destined to not get along while at the same time acting as a strange mirror. He got to see his own cocky behavior, experience it.
And he liked it.
At least they shared the same views of the Negaverse. There was no one on that team that could hold a candle to him or, he supposed, Nemesis. In her way. And he was only being generous because she couldn't hear his thoughts, and would never know he was paying her mental compliments and acknowledging her as someone of strength.
He was still better, of course.
Shrugging languidly, he grinned at her boyishly. "Well, if you don't think you're up to it. Wouldn't want you putting your back out though, old timer."

If there was one thing a man should never do, it was tell a girl that they were packing on a few pounds. Nemesis knew she hadn't, but that hardly made her feel any less insulted! She went from tolerating Chaonis' presence to loathing it in a matter of seconds. While before she was entertaining the other senshi since she had managed to progress to eternal, now she was considering entertaining herself with Chaonis... by rotting some of his flesh. She sighed loudly, an obvious attempt to calm herself down and keep from doing just that. But it was so difficult...
"You do remember my attack, right?" Nemesis inquired with a sickly sweet voice. "Call me fat again and I will help you lose a few pounds in a matter of seconds," she threatened, raising up one of her arms and splaying out her fingers. At least her hand wasn't glowing right at the moment, because if it had been then she would have felt inclined not to waste her power and use it on someone. Since Chaonis was the only someone close by it only made sense to use it on him.
She still wasn't quite calmed down by the time Chaonis issued his next challenge. It was probably her own anger that made her quick enough to agree with Chaonis. She knew she could fight circles around the other senshi - she had experience on him, and a natural ability to fight. Instinct ruled her in a battle, and she usually knew how to move and when to move as an enemy came at her. "Wow, we are about twenty five years off from being able to call me an old timer, and even then I would still be a hell of a better fighter than you."

Chaonis grinned at her, but her words registered with him and his expression flickered just a little bit. He was not going to doubt her ability to do exactly what she said she would: melting his skin off seemed like just the kind of thing she would very much like to do and was more than capable of doing.
He was not going to give her that option, if he could avoid it.
"Who knows," he said, laughing and shrugging his shoulders. "but I don't want to push you into it. How about we find someone worth picking on a little bit. We have to hold back fighting each other, right? If we find a nega, you can really show me what you can do."
Anyway, he would love to see attacks and moves that were not focused on him, especially because he was not sure if he could actually win if she used her magic on him. That bothered him.
But in a way, it was also a good thing. He needed something to keep his ego in check, though he did not like to admit that.
