The Negaverse Lieutenant was on patrol and rearing to do everything he could to not just meet his quota, but exceed it. He was going to be the goddamn best Negaverse soldier they had ever seen and he was not going to let anything get in his way.
Of course, he found he was pushing himself well beyond his ability: he often ran into things that were no where near his level, and he tried to fight them anyway. But that was the only way to get stronger right? And the older folks knew more about the world, had more information to give him to take back to the Negaverse and to his General King.
But maybe he needed a new tactic, other than punch first and question as he went. Using pain as a motivator for answers was well and good but it had its place.
He needed a middle ground. Something a little nicer.
Pondering this, he did not notice the aura nearby him, his mind focusing on too many other things to really have any room to warn him about impending danger. And he hadn't really trained his brain to recognize Order auras as danger, anyway. Just challenges and potential triumphs.

Yahya Grant - er, Sailor Merlin (he was not used to calling himself that just yet) was one of those senshi who had no idea what he was doing. For the most part he never henshined up - he had a full time job at an animal rescue center and felt like he was doing the world some good that way. His civilian life was busy enough, and he had convinced himself that there was no way that he could be of any use in this sort of... magical war? Really, Merlin had no idea what was going on, and that was by his own choice. He rarely henshined up, he didn't really know any magical talking cats. He had been awakened a long time ago, but that didn't mean he immediately set off on a quest to save the world.
Sailor Merlin was lost in so many ways, and it wasn't clear if he henshined up just to look pretty in his sailor scout outfit or if he was trying to convince himself that he could do something by henshining up. He felt some energies around him, but had no idea how to go about... responding to them. So, the Senshi of Magic Tricks walked slowly through the streets, his purple cape hardly making a show of trailing behind him because his pace was so slow. He would likely power down soon, since there were a litter of kittens now in his apartment that would have to be fed again and left to roam freely throughout his apartment.
In fact, it would probably be the best idea he had all night to henshin down and go home! What was this business about being a senshi anyways? He could, and did, do good his own way! He was happy and didn't feel like he had to live up to anyone's magical standards (mostly because no people had any idea that there was a Sailor Merlin).
He was about ready to turn around and head home when he belatedly noticed someone not a couple of yards away from him. He stopped, yellow eyes widening when he noticed what kind of energy was in front of him. Some senshi would take action and get the jump on the Negaverse agent, some senshi would run off before the Negaverser could take notice of them. Merlin was not any of them, and panicked in this new and potentially dangerous situation.
"Uh, hi?" he asked, his voice optimistic and just a little forced.

Merlinite looked at the magician standing in front of him, and he started to laugh at the sight of him. It was a nice out fit, if you were doing a show in Vegas, but not too subtle here in Destiny City. He had no idea yet that they two of them bore something in common, just seeing a new target to try and get some information out of.
"And what do we have here? A senshi from the looks of it, right? You're lucky you don't have a skirt like all the other ladies." He grinned at Merlin and padded a bit closer.
He did not call his weapon to his hand yet.
No, this time he was going to try a different tactic, and he was going to stick to it until he was absolutely sure he could not hold back from punching the senshi in the face. And hey, for one of the first times, he would not actually feel any hokey guilt for it, since this guy was not, in fact, a girl. Despite the colors he wore.
"Out looking to cause some trouble for us Negas, huh?"

Merlin was being laughed at! Instead of getting upset at being so openly mocked, he rather looked surprised and definitely embarrassed. He knew his senshi fuku was a little ridiculous, but it wasn't nearly as bad as Merlinite clearly thought! Sure the shorts were a little... short, but he had tights to cover his legs and his tuxedo top was definitely appealing! Purple wasn't the best color, but he didn't think he looked all that bad. In actuality, he kind of liked how he looked! He could do without the shorts but his cape was really cool! Even the star clasps were nice, in his opinion. It was certainly better than how Merlinite himself looked!
"I don't know why I'd have a skirt, I'm not a lady," Merlin explained with the patience of a saint. The Negaverser was clearly advancing on him, and so Merlin stepped back a few paces, as if to speak about how uncomfortable he was without having to come right out and say it. He flashed the Negaverser an uncertain smile, clearly trying to be nice because he loathed the idea of being mean.
There were other senshi who would see this threat and assume it to be a challenge. Merlin just sensed danger, and would rather flee than confront it. "Oh, no. I'm not looking to cause trouble, I'm looking to prevent it." Of course, he guessed that meant he had been intending to cause trouble for Negas, since the Negaverse usually was the source of what troubled Destiny City. Merlin didn't think he was lying to this guy, rather he was explaining his intent in a different way!
"You're not doing anything bad, from what I see at least, right now. So nope, no trouble." Of course Merlinite could have just done something bad, or was getting ready to! Hell, Merlin was so not cut out to be a senshi. Why was he even thinking of getting 'into' this?

Merlinite's base of comparison was bias, as far as the look of uniforms went. Clearly, Chaos got the better end of the deal. No frilly skirts or ridiculousness: they had army suits and dark colors, and that was what he really liked. Hell, his green and camo suit, with its awesome dragons, was much more fitting for a fight than...
A costume someone performing at a children's party might wear.
If they didn't want to get paid that day.
"You're not? Huh! The tights had me confused."
This guy sure did smile a lot, and judging by that he imagined he had a bit of a wuss on his hands. He had heard about those White Moon types that wanted to do nothing but spout peace and promote kindness. Not the kind that could be prompted into a good fight without a lot of effort, but they were useful for other things.
Maybe this was a good chance to get some information out of the other.
"No trouble, huh? Good. I was just out doing what I'm told to do, anyway. I guess it must be the same for you guys, right?" He tilted his head, trying to play nice for now and ignore his impulses to punch the guy in the nose. "The name's Merlinite, by the way."

"Men wear tights too," Merlin replied with a slightly disapproving frown. Really, anyone these days could wear anything! He found it slightly offensive that Merlinite immediately pinned him as a woman because he was in short shorts and tights. He couldn't help how his fuku turned out. When he powered up, this was what he looked like. It was good for keeping his identity hidden, less good for preserving his dignity and manhood. He hadn't been embarrassed at all over his outfit until this guy decided to pick fun at him because of it.
Right, Merlin just needed to work on his self-confidence. So what if he was wearing tights? He was a pretty amazing person and what he wears shouldn't matter of effect that!
Since the other young man didn't seem to be making any attempts to kick his a**, Merlin decided it wouldn't harm to try and place nice with him. There was no reason to try and right Merlinite's wrongs if Merlinite was not actually doing anything. Merlin definitely would not be the first to strike... but he also wasn't quite the fount of information that Merlinite was hoping to tap into. Merlin had specifically kept himself out of the loop, simply because he did not want to be involved in whatever magical war was going on.
He was far better with saving the world one abused animal at a time!
"Uhhh, I actually have no idea. I haven't actually talked to a lot of other people like me," Merlin answered after a lengthy pause. He wasn't intentionally withholding information, simply because he had no information to give. "Merlinite? Really? I'm Merlin." And he sounded oh so cheerful that their names were similar! Maybe it meant they would be friends?
He thought on that for a second... and realized they probably wouldn't be. Bummer.

Merlinite just sort of stared at the other for a long moment, after hearing that he was not in contact with many of the other senshi around. That meant he had very little to tell Merlinite, beyond his own abilities. That was information enough, a name to add to the list of senshi they had, but nothing else.
That sucked.
Merlinite just wanted to find that giant piece of information that would blow the top off the Negaverse and shoot him right through it. Clearly, this guy was not going to give him that burst. If he said anything useful it would probably be by accident. Great! What a bummer. He was just going to have to fight this guy, see what his magic was, and call it a day.
Big bummer.
"Oh, you're Merlin? Great." He sighed. Now this guy who had no rank, no information, and was putting Merlinite's name down for it. He sighed. "Well, I think I'm done playing nice," he grinned, calling his baton to his hand. "You don't seem to have anything I can use, and that's a failure on your end."

"Oh."
This was not a nice person, definitely not a nice person. He was sure his friends would scold him for immediately putting his good faith in a stranger, especially considering all the events that had happened in Destiny City. Well, this was what he got for trying to think the best of everyone! Of course, he knew the Negaverse was bad, but he didn't like to judge every single person from that organization. Hell, he didn't even know what the Negaverse did, beyond being told once upon a time that they were really really bad.
Sailor Merlin backed up a couple of paces as Merlinite summoned a baton. Since he definitely was not a member of the police, there was no reason Merlinite should have that other than to inflict some pain... and Merlin was so not in the business of getting hurt. He had work in the morning! He couldn't show up with a bunch of bruises. "I'm sorry?" he answered, sounding confused as to what he had actually done that was so wrong and deserving of being threatened.
"Look, I'm just uh... going to go now. Have a good night?" Yeah, that so was not working. This Merlinite dude did not seem the least bit deterred by Merlin's lame excuses.

Merlinite watched the other Merlin with a serious, daring expression. He wanted to see what the other would try, what kind of skills this guy was hiding under that pretense of uselessness. It was a pretense, right? No one just... didn't know anything about what they were doing with super powers. Even Merlinite had learned pretty fast what he was out here for.
And he was having a lot of fun.
"You're not going anywhere, buddy! You think you can just come in here and talk with a guy like me, and think I'm going to be satisfied just letting you get away without actually telling me anything I want to know? That's not going to happen, man. Anyway, I can't have you out there, smearing my name around like that, can I? You're not good enough for it."
He grinned, stalking closer, ready to fight. Wanting to fight, in fact. If that wasn't obvious already.
