When Tuck arrived at the mess hall there wasn't anyone else there. It was still early, so that made sense, but it also meant that he'd beat Heidi there. It didn't really surprise him - she was a girl, after all - and so while he waited, Tuck figured he'd get all the necessary goods together for breakfast.
It took some rummaging, but he managed to scrounge up some not-too-stale Cheerios and some milk that wasn't past the expiration date. That was considered a win, and balancing some bowls and spoons, Tuck made his way to the nearest table where he poured the cereal, divvied up the spoons, and then... waited for Heidi to show up.
His stomach growled.

The longest part of Heidi getting ready was hyperventilating over what she had seen.
Oh god that had been so embarrassing but she'd totally handled it like a boss right totally normal nothing wrong here nothing happened it was totally okay oh god breathe breathe breathe--
Such fuss, such fuss. What do the scarelings say? Don't be a wuss? Totally na--okay no, she didn't. Heidi had calmed down enough to laugh at Matilda's failed attempt at poetry at least, so it kind of worked. She sighed, quickly brushing her hair and teeth before she tossed on whatever clothes she could find.
She was totally cool when she got to the cafeteria, whistling a made up tune and found Tuck pretty quickly at one of the tables. Aw, look! He had breakfast for them and everything! Tuck was the best. The very best.
"Hey you!" Heidi grinned as she came up to sit beside Tuck, sitting on the table instead of on the actual seat. "I can hear your stomach growling from across the room, Tuckella." Okay, it was a lie, but she could pretend.

Tuck gave Heidi a look. It was a pretty serious look, so far as looks go. As he'd waited, he'd been thinking about what had happened that morning, and part of him - well, most of him - felt really bad. He hadn't been thinking about acting on anything, and Tuck couldn't really help how things had ended up.
The last thing he wanted was to make things weird between himself and Heidi. She was the first friend he'd made, and she was hilarious and could make him laugh like nobody else, and that was important to him. He needed someone like that in his life, someone who could make him laugh over stupid s**t, and joke with him over stupid s**t, and who wasn't afraid to act like a damn fool because it was fun.
Tuck solemnly reached for the milk.
"Hey," he began, giving the milk a thoughtful look as he poured it.
"I didn't ******** anything up this morning, did I?"

Whoa. Serious look was serious. Heidi blinked, waiting for some kind of hint at what Tuck was giving her that look for. Had she done something wrong? Was he made at her for her behavior earlier? Oh dear. She hadn't meant to upset him. They were cool, right? He finally spoke and she brightened up a bit until he asked his question. Oh. He was worried?
Heidi laughed and moved to actually sit in her seat beside Tuck, patting his back once she was properly seated. "You didn't do anything wrong, dude. S'all good. We're cool. You're fine. I'm fine. We're fine." Heidi grinned. "Seriously, don't worry about it. You're a guy, it's..like...natural or somethin'. I should've known better than to get on you like that." Awkward.
She then stared pointedly at the milk an cereal. "Tuckella, I'm hungry. So hungry." Her eyes widened and her mouth was set in a firm line. Heidward was out for blood if she didn't get fed cereal soon.

Tuck immediately turned that frown upside down. Milk was suddenly poured with great gusto, and soon enough Heidi had a bowl almost overflowing with cheerios and milk sitting before her.
In fact, the instant that Tuck shoved the food into the bowl, cereal and milk both overflowed. He nabbed a few pieces of her cereal before digging into his own, which he consumed with great gusto.
There was never not gusto when food was around.
"I just had to check. It's been bugging me."
Tuck shrugged and gave Heidi a grin before he scooped a huge, monstrous bite of cereal into his mouth. He chewed and swallowed before hefting up another bite towards his mouth.
"Eat up. You gonna need your strength."

Much better! Heidi took her cereal, playfully swatting at the hand stealing her cheerios before she dug in herself. Thief! Thiiiiief! He really was more energetic now. "Oh? Sorry, I didn't mean to worry you." Heidi just wouldn't be climbing on Tuck in the morning like that ever again.
Ever.
But their deal to have more sleepovers to help him sleep at night was still totally okay.
"Need my strength?" Heidi couldn't help but grin, eating several large mouthfuls of cereal before she spoke again. "No. It's you who's going to need their strength when I kick your butt to the ground, man."

Tuck filled up his bowl of cereal again, shrugging slightly. "You say we're cool, then we're cool." He grinned before taking a bite of cereal.
It was so cute how she thought he'd meant she'd need her strength for the spar. The spar was going to be fun. He wasn't worried about the spar.
"You probably are gonna beat my a** in a spar," Tuck picked up a few cheerios that had fallen out of his bowl, "but you gonna need your strength for carryin' around all them buckets of ice."
He snickered at his own words, obviously finding himself utterly hilarious.

Buckets? Would she really need multiple buckets? Heidi stopped eating to just stare at Tuck.
"Have some self control." But her eyes did turn toward the kitchen. Did they have buckets in there?

Tuck's grin grew broader.
"Wonder if they got a wheelbarrow 'round here that you could use. Might be easier on your back. An' self-control? C'mon now, Heids. I ain't even sure I'ma last a week."

Her jaw dropped. A wheelbarrow?! Tuck! Come on! Give a girl a break! "I guess it'd help give me some more upper body strength," she muttered with a little frowned. A frown of disapproval. She narrowed her eyes at Tuck and finished her cereal, stealing a spoonful of his own breakfast. "Payment for my services," she explained haughtily, dropping her spoon in her own bowl and pushing the bowl aside.
"I think you can last a week. I told you, I was going to put ice down your shirt if women got you all hot and bothered." Heidi had been kidding initially, but maybe she'd actually have to do it.
It was for Tuck's own good.

A Very Serious Look came over Tuck's face when Heidi took that bite of cereal.
"You ticklish, Heidi?"

What? Was he serious? Heidi hesitated at first. And then she realize she was wasting precious time.

Tuck leaned back in his seat and watched Heidi trip as she ran away.
Ten. Nine. Eight.
"You better run!"
Seven. Six. Five.
"Real fast!"
Four. Three.
He rose to his feet.
Two.
Tuck calmly pushed in his chair.
One.
Aaaaaand he was off.
