Araceli had taken a break from dragon hunting for a few days. Things had just not been going as well as she had planned. Huffing out a frustrated breath she remembered lying to her mother. She had been too embarrassed to tell her she had failed at hunting a small baby Ysali. So instead, she had told her she hadn’t found any yet. She didn’t like lying to her parents but her pride had taken over and she’d done so. She kicked at small branches and pebbles lining the forest floor. She had set out on another hunt but her heart just wasn’t into it this time around.

Her eyes were on the ground as she walked, not paying attention the passing scenery. So when she walked right past a dragon nest, she didn’t even blink. The Ysali dragon resting in it, however, did not ignore Araceli walking past. It’s head bowed low and a growl escaped it’s throat as a warning. Araceli, lost in her own thoughts didn’t even hear the dragon move from it’s nest and start to stalk her until it was too late.

A sharp pain shot through her right arm as she was thrown forward to the ground. She grunted with the force of the landing and rolled over to face her attacker. Araceli’s eyes widened as her gaze fell to a fully grown Ysali dragon. The dragon growled and a drop of spit fell down and onto Araceli’s cheek. Trembling, she rolled over quickly and crawled out from under the dragon. Her right shoulder was on fire and blood was running down her arm. She flinched at the sight but continued to run. She didn’t look back the whole time she ran. However, the Ysali hadn’t followed her. When it realized it had scared the threat away it had gone back to it’s eggs.
