It was the third day, the third...not the second or the first but the third. Father young girl was starting to wonder if Burrom was trying to break her, with the constant battles, the barking of commands...she wasn't use to be expected to be able to fight and suddenly her life depended on her ability to fight. Perhaps she would be joining her father on his hunts or his odd jobs. The thought brought a flicker of hope that perhaps her life would change. Maybe now her father would want her around if she could at least prove herself.
Getting up early she had went to observe the triefen, see how it moved what it could possibly be thinking. It was sluggish since the morning us had yet to rise enough to barely illuminate the world around them. She noticed that it had to turn its head to see things that were directly in front of it and thus she learned it had a blind spot. But it's hearing was keen....it had heard her approach and was cocking its head to watch her warily. For good reason...she was suppose to kill the beast today, Burrom had made it clearly plain that she had to and so she would have to be extra clever if she was going to manage it.
A plan had formed in her head as she studied the creature and the she left it to ready herself for the day. Practicing her spells quietly though her father had already been awake and watching her through heavy lids. If only the you g girl knew the true reason behind her father student urge to be attentive....she perhaps wouldn't be so eager to please him.
The sun rose, breakfast was attained and devoured, the it was time for her to fight.
This time rather than standing in one place in the pen she was slow to move to the right, forcing the creature to have to keep turning its head to watch her or its entire body if she got out of turning range. It was well thought out plan, if given a chance she was adept at tactics, planning a strike ahead....much like her fight with the ysali dragon she had been able to defeat through a trap since she was no where strong enough to kill it on her own. If given a chance to plan....she was merciless. Staying out of the water was her best defence as the creature wouldn't come out of its element.
The young girls strike was sudden and fierce, balls of fire erupted from her staff just as the creature was forced to turn its entire body for the third time caught off guard it was hit square in the face with fire. It gave a strange squeal of pain as it tried to put out the flames by dunking its head in the water, doing perhaps the best thing it could in its situation. But she wasn't done, Tilawen had sent more fire its way every time it came above water but this time she was trying to engulf the whole body in flames. A tricky endeavor since it was continuously putting out the flames in the sea water.
Cooking it alive as she got close enough to squat down and pick up a stone. The creature was thrashing trying to put its body out but she was smart enough to stand a safe distance away before she hurled the stone in its direction. It hit it in the middle disorienting it before she rushed in and brought the heavy knob of her staff down upon the creature burnt face.
A sickening crack....and it twitched before collapsing into the water...still smouldering on certain places on its body where the body was still exposed to air. There were no words for the way she felt that moment, looking to Burrom to see if she did a good job. She hadn't been expecting him to be frowning and she was immediately thrown into a small anxiety attack.
"....lets go home." We're his only comment, her win seemed to have effected him in a different way than she thought it would..
