Toki was out in the dune hills near his tribes hidden valley. He'd just got done giving his current two rascally charges lectures and punishments for their latest mischief. After that he'd sent them back to their parents to deal with while he went out and relaxed. He was looking forward to the Keindreds growing up, one of them showed promise in Magic.. if he could just stop being so silly and troublesome!
So the afternoon had him resting after his meal. A sense of contentment filled him alongside his full stomach, he may be blind but he could still fend for himself.

Amadia had grown tired of all the fuss around Erionda's house and had decided to explore the desert on her own. She was a Kiandri drakein after all. Maybe she'd find others like her. She let out a snort as she bounded off over the dunes of the desert. She really did like running. It made her feel free.
Amadia could feel the power with in her trying to awaken. She just couldn't master it yet, though. Practice was needed but she had no one to teach her. She wasn't even sure Kilian knew anything about her powers. Did he know that she had Kiandri powers laying dormant inside of her? She was pretty sure the answer was no.
So she was left to practice on her own. As she was bounding across the desert, she tried storing up some energy and letting it out. Every time, though, it just fizzled and didn't amount to anything special. Frustrated, she came to a stop and snorted. Why couldn't she get the hang of it?

Toki heard the thudding of a young Drakein, probably Keindred from the sound of it and felt the fizzle of magic going out. Strange, he thought as he lifted his head and turned to face the sounds. He extended his other sense, the one that he'd always had, the ability to sense nearby magic. This Keindred was.. not as full? Was that correct? It seemed to be missing some of the essential magic that all Drakein had in them.. how odd. There was some, enough to live on and perhaps cast the lesser magics, but not enough to do some of the feats that his current reckless pupil Grrel did.
Curious, he stood up creakily and sauntered over towards the sounds.

Amadia had stopped bounding around the dunes and stood stock still, trying to focus all her energy into one spot. She took a deep breath and held it, letting the energy in her build until she felt like she would burst. As she let her breath out she released the energy. A huge disappointment flodded her as nothing came out. She stomped her front feet into the sandy desert floor, frustrated by the incompetence that she seemed to be feeling. It wasn't fair. She could feel the power in her. So why couldn't she use it?
Amadia's ears twitched at the sound of someone moving through the sands. She swiveled around and came face to face with a rather large and old Drakein. She quickly backed up, away from the beast and crouched down low, a growl escaping her throat.

Toki heard the growls and the sound of the young one backing away from him. Strange. He'd maid no threatening move, the first reaction of the Keindreds to strangers who approached was usually to charge and ask questions to strange Drakeins. Perhaps this little one was shy? Toki smelled a strange scent coming from her, the scent of an Oblivionite. Now why would she? Ah.. this must be a bonded. He thought to himself.
"Hrm, no need to be so defensive young one. I'm here peacefully," He rumbled. "Shaman Toki is what I am called, and you are?" He asked and tilted his head slightly to invite her to answer.

Amadia stopped backing up as the old Drakein began to talk. She watched as his eyes never really focused on one thing in particular. Was something wrong with his vision? Amadi's head tilted to the side, slightly, as he introduced himself. "Amadia." Came the short, clipped response. While her out loud voice wasn't too great it had improved so much since she first became a keindred. So she was able to form sentences with it.
"I didn't mean to disturb you." Amadia said in a low voice. She wasn't usually one to shy away from danger. She went on almost every dragon hunt with Kilian and was always helping him out on adventures. However, this old Drakein put her off balance some how. She just couldn't put her paw on it. "i was...just trying to practice."

"Practicing?" Toki said in an amused voice, "Are you practicing how to run small one? Or something else?" He knew she was practicing magic of course, but to run while trying to cast something wouldn't work.. not until you'd learned how to cast of course! Then you could try moving while doing so... Moving took away from concentrating on magic, and young ones tend to lose concentration easily.....
He heard her voice and how it wasn't quite... quite as far along as the Keindreds of his clan. Were the rumors true then? Did bondeds really have less intelligence? Or was it because they were raised not with their parents, but with a Magescian who didn't know how to raise them?
One way to test that, and that was to teach her. If she can learn as fast as the Keindreds of my clan, than it is the way she was raised that makes her seem slow to us, not the bond itself.

"I..uhm..." Amadia's head ducked low as she listened to Toki. "I'm trying to practice my magic" She had no clue how to go about practicing her magic. Kilian knew nothing about drakeins save what he'd learned from her and she knew no others except Lanzecki and Uassae. She had her pride, though, and there was no way she was going to ask those two for help anyway.
She looked back up at the older drakein and tilted her head. Maybe this one could help her out? He was a stranger and she'd likely never meet him again. So it was a perfect situation. If he'd only agree to it. She pushed the sand around with her paw and asked. "Would you teach me?" Her voice held a slight sliver of hope to it.

Toki grinned and chuckled. Kiendreds were always so cute when they wanted something! "Ah so you were trying to practice magic! In that case I may be able to help you. Since my main duty to my clan is to train all in the uses of magic. ." He got up and walked about her sniffing the air about her and searching with the strange sixth sense he'd developed over the years to seek out and find magic. "I will teach you, though I can't teach you everything you'll need toknow in one afternoon you should be able to grow and figure out more later on..." He paused for a moment. Should he tell her? Hmm, yes, it would be best if she knew why her powers weren't all there. "I must warn you though. I sense much less magic in you than other Keindreds. Your bond with a Mgescian has drained most of it from you so you'll never be able to match a non-bonded's power by your self. But you do have enough for minor spells...."

Amadia tilted her head as she plopped down in the sand, letting the older Drakein sniff her. Kilian was drained her magic? She let out a huff at that information. She didn't mind. Kilian had helped her in many ways and if that meant she had to give up a little of her magic then so be it.
She turned her head at the mention of spells. Oh, that was what she was out here for! If she was going to help battle dragons she needed to learn how to do spells. "Can you help me?" She asked, a little impatience could be heard in her voice. Amadia was ready to start practicing.

Toki chuckled; impatient, but willing to learn. In fact, wanting to learn! Oh what a nice change from those silly Keindreds I must teach these days... they only wish to play.
"Of course I'll teach you. First though, I'll need to know to what extent your knowledge is. What can you cast, any teachings you've had at all?"
She probably hasn't been taught anything, he thought to himself. I'll have to start with helping her sense magic so she knows where her power is and then I'll try and see if she'll be able to visualize her power, reach it and then harness it. It's all in the mind after all....

Amadia tucked her head down, eyes cast to the ground. "I've not been taught anything. My...friend...is very kind to me but he doesn't know much about Drakeins." She looked back up, her eyes locking onto Toki's even though she knew he could not see her. "I can feel it though. It's like something is coursing through me, clawing to get free."

Toki was pleased that she referred to her bonded as a friend; it boded well that it was neither a per nor servant relationship but more like equal partners. He then chuckled, "We are Kiandri, and that sense of the building and clawing is something we all feel. Our power is wild and hard to tame. It's very nature makes it unpredictable and difficult. But that is also an advantage! No one knows where the lightning will actually strike until it's too late!" She could already sense the building of power, just like any other Kiendred her age. "I will teach you how to channel it first off." He stood up and began to pace about her, his tail swishing gently. "It is the mot basic of our power, to coat one's scales in electricity. To do this, you must visualize the power. Close your eyes and look inward. Picture yourself as a rock filled with lightning. That power you sense building? Match the image in your mind to it. It will be difficult as lightning is ever changing. But once they match and you can move the image the way the power moves, you should sense a connection, a feeling of warmth and exhilaration. That feeling is you connecting with your power. Once you feel this, move the lightning in your mind to coat the rock that is you in a net of power. Because you've connected with your power, it should respond and you should feel and hear the sparking of lightning along your scales."

Amadia kept her eyes on Toki as he moved around her. Only when he gave her an order did she stop doing so. Quickly, she clenched her eyes shut and tried to picture herself as a rock. Amadia had to hold back a snort at this exercise. She took a deep breath and concentrated on Toki's voice. The drakein obviously knew what he was doing. She felt the power course through her, wild and intangible. Could she really control this power which seemed to be coursing through her body of its own free will? She concentrated as a warmth began to spread through her whole body. She reached a clawed paw out towards the power in her mind and made contact. A strange sparking sensation swept over her as she imagined herself being coated in the power that ran through her. "Toki...I feel it.." The amazement in her voice was raw. Amadia couldn't believe that she finally had at least some kind of control over the power that had felt so untamable to her.

Toki smiled when he felt her powers become slightly less wild. So they are just like a normal Keindred, just with less magic and raised in a different way.
"Good! And well done. That was fairly fast. Normally it takes me a few days to get the Keindreds to calm down and sit still long enough to concentrate. I will give you a few more exercises to learn. Find your way back here one day once you've gotten those under control and I'll teach you more." He bent down and nuzzled her, ignoring the sparks that danced along her scales. "A very good job young one."
He taught her some of the smaller magics that he knew; basics of controlling and manipulating her power and also told her about the elemental weakness and strengths of Lightning. Who it'd be good against, who you shouldn't use it at since they were highly resistant to it. Then he lifted his head and looked back towards his clan's home and sighed.
"Well, time for me to head back and see if I can pound sense into my clans children. Nice to meet with you Amadia. Come back when you wish to learn more!" She said over his shoulder as he sauntered back home. All in all, a very nice day, he thought.
