Again! Whitaker looked around the narrow tunnel he was currently walking through, and sighed heavily. While he always enjoyed finding new areas to explore, he never got used to getting lost... This time, he was in a cave. It had beckoned to him, the wind singing as it sped through the wide entry. How could he not heed its call?

He had ventured deep into the cave, following wherever he felt the breeze going. He had quickly discovered that the wind was going through holes in the cave walls that were often too small for him to squeeze through. The tunnels were long and winding, and often forked in more than one direction. The dim light filtered through some of the holes in the ground above; far too high for him to reach.

Eventually, he came to a vault of the cave, where glowing mushrooms and tiny phosphorescent creatures prospered. He was tired from wandering for so long... This was as good a place as any to rest. He sat down next to a cluster of mushrooms and pulled an apple from his pack to chew on. ...His father wouldn't let him out of the house anymore if he ever got free of this labyrinth...

Two days she'd been underground, and still she had yet to find an exit. As she walked the tunnels and corridors, small cloven hooves echoing against the stone, Lucrezia began to ponder her predicament. A few days ago she had come across the large underground system, and had given into her natural curiosity to see it explored. She had every intention of memerizing the passages so that she could lead others through them, but...that had been before she'd gotten lost.

Every time she heard the wind howl through the tunnels she would meet it with a notched arrow. In truth, this was getting her no where fast. Rations were running low, there was no game down here, and she'd only managed to find a fresh water source her first day in.

Thank goodness her torch hadn't burnt out yet. Granted, it was magically enhanced, but still. She would have been worse off without it; probably trapped in some hole, weeping like her brother when she kicked him in her sleep.

As she ventured into a lighter part, she hurriedly snuffed out her torch, and stowed it away in to one of the saddlebags hanging off rump. Lucrezia's bi-colored eyes took in the sight before her with awe. Despite her less than pleased mood, the lighted mushrooms and worms that inched along the walls were beautiful. She reached forward to scoop one of the worms onto her finger, smiling a bit with it slinked up her finger before she returned him to his family.

Then, she heard the ever tell-tale sound of some fool eating an apple, which had the doe straightening to find it's source. What she saw was a white buck, what else could he be, to glow so bright in this light?, settled down like this was his home. Hell, maybe it was.

This was the moment for her to make a good impression; one of intimidation, fear, and awe. One that would get her the information she needed to be free of here without the hassle.

"Do you...live here?"

Brilliant.

He was sitting quietly, just keeping himself calm as he gave his bites their most thorough chewings. He had to think. Tried to. After all those twists and turns, though... backtracking and retracking... He could have been walking on the ceiling and wouldn't know it!

His eyes popped open as a voice spoke, looking over in surprise at the dark female. He could only just see her by the light of the fauna and flora around them. "Considering that I can't find my way out of here, I suppose I might as well start considering this home," he said with a small huff. His ears perked and he straightened up, as though he had only just registered that someone else was there, and a hopefulness entered his tone. "You! Do you live here? Do you know the cave? I didn't mean to intrude on someone's home! I.. I've gotten myself lost in here."

Lucrezia slid her finger along the length of the wall until it pulled away as her steps took her closer to him. She couldn't tell his age, or even his well being; all she could tell was that he was indeed a he, white pelted, and had a rack. That didn't settle the wariness gnawing at her brain to notch an arrow. Possibly pull out her dagger; just to be safe.

"No, to both." She admitted tighty, giving into a sigh that had her running a hand through her hair. It seemed she wasn't any better off with him than she was without. "I'm lost in here, same as you. How long have you been here? Are you alone? Does anyone know you're here?"

Whitaker sighed and leaned his head back to look up at the high, glowing ceiling. It was another world down here... "I don't know how long, I am alone, and no one would know." Well.... wasn't he a sorry sight? It wasn't that he didn't have anyone who cared. He was known for vanishing on his explorations for periods of time though, and no one would worry unless a few days passed without word. How long had it been now?

He looked over at the female and sighed again. "I don't suppose someone might know that you came down here?" He took another bite of his apple. Pausing, he dug through his bag and pulled out an orange, holding out in offer to the female. If she was lost, maybe she was also hungry?

"It is as I feared, then." Lucrezia took a deep breath and took the offered orange, tipping it in a salute before biting through the skin. Her bite was vicious; just as her mind was at the moment. "There are three tunnels that lead into this chamber, and two of which were passed through by the two of us. The one I came through has many other chambers, and..." She paused, pursing her lips as she clipped over to the only remaining tunnel.

"I explore often, so once again, we have an accord." She took another bite, and looked over her shoulder. "Feel like trying door number three?"

Whitaker's soft blue eyes watched the female without much reaction. Well, it was nice to know that he wasn't alone. He finished off his fruit and tossed the hard core to the side. Well, what to do now?

Ears perking, he looked up at the suggestion and smiled. "That only makes sense." Pushing himself up, he headed over to the woman's side. "Oh, wait!" Dipping down, he scooped up a handful of dirt that held a clutch of the glowing mushrooms, and then a second clutch. "Here. You take one, and I'll take one. In case we run into more dark areas. Shall we then?"

Lucrezia finished off the last bit of the fruit, and mulled around on the core before spitting it out. It wasn't enough to curb her appetite by any means, but the taste had pleased her.

"You're smarter than you look," she smiled and held her hand out for the dirt. Then, with a little intake of breath, she went to the cave wall, snatched up some worms and placed them all around his antlers. "Can't have too many, right? Come on, then, I'll take point."

With a determined stride the doe strode down the tunnel, her cloven hooves echoing all along the walls around her.

Whitaker's brow rose slightly in surprise at the female's comment. ....He didn't look very smart? He scratched his head a moment before the glowing worms were added, his eyes looking up in an attempt to watch what was happening. Some were dropping into his hair..........

Fighting to keep his nose from wrinkling, he gave a careful nod so that no worms would be thrown around and headed after the bold female. He was surprised by the light their mushrooms truly emitted. It wasn't much, but they could see where they were walking now. "By the way.. My name's Whitaker. What's yours?"

"Whitaker, huh? Has a nice ring to it. My name's Lucrezia." As she walked, she shifted her hand in different directions, hoping to catch sight of a secret passageway or some sort of lever. So far she'd seen nothing of the sort, but she didn't believe for a second that there wasn't one there. Someone must have lived here at some point, she was sure of it.

"So, let's hash this out now before we get in too deep. What kind of supplies did you bring with you? How much survival knowledge do you have?" She looked back over her shoulder, seeing less of him now and more of the glow.

"Lucrezia.." he murmured to himself, trying to make sure he would remember it later. Blinking a few times, Whitaker turned at his waist to peek at the bag hanging from his back. "Food. Rope. Bandages. Ointment." ..That was it. He'd never gone too far nor gotten in enough trouble with his travels to warrant taking a big survival kit along. "And.. I've explored a lot, so most of it is just from experience. ...What about you?"
PostPosted: Fri Jun 14, 2013 8:49 pm

"Food...rope..." Lucrezia went through the list with him, murmuring the inventory under her breath to record it to memory. It wasn't much, but it was a good start. If they could find a water source, then there was a possibility of following it out....if it ran into the open, that is. "Good, good."

"I've got dried meet, acorns, roots, a wine sack, a water sack, blanket, rope, my bow, arrows, and this." She stopped to pull out her unlit torch. "It's magically embedded, so we don't need fire to light it. Just put some blood on this spot here," She held it to the mushroom, showing an indention on the wood, "and it will take off. It only has three more rounds, though, so I would just as soon not use it."

His ears twitched with each item that Lucrezia listed off. If he hadn't already been so pale, she might have seen his face blanch a little. "It... uses blood?" Accidental bleeding was one thing. Purposely cutting to drip one's life fluids onto a bloodthirsty torch? ...not so much. Thankfully, they had the glowing mushrooms and worms.

"Well, hopefully, we'll get out of here soon. I miss the open air." Though, the open air was part of what had gotten him into this predicament in the first place...

PostPosted: Sat Jun 15, 2013 2:43 pm

"Unfortunately," She winced and stuck it back into her pack. "It's something that one of my brother's bought at the market, but when they found out about the blood they didn't want it." They had also been a little worried when she'd snatched it out of their hands, laying claim to it before either one could think of something to do with it. Odd or not, fire could mean the difference between life or death at any given moment.

"I miss my dad's cooking, but that's neither here nor there." Lucrezia paused. "Does it...does it feel like we're going downhill?

"Ah. I see. ..Yes, the market holds many strange and unusual items." Especially those shady markets with all the tough-looking taur slinking around! ..He didn't often venture through there.

Dad's cooking... Well, maybe he missed that, too. He wasn't starving yet though. "Downhill?" He paused and closed his eyes, trying to get a feel for the slope of the ground. ...His sense of direction was all mixed up in these tunnels though. "I... can't tell."
