College was a good thing. Of course it was, though it was kind of boring.. having to sit and read so much. Ainsley would much rather be up and doing something rather sitting and just reading how to do that something in a book. Thankfully, with the College of Aptitude he didn't necessarily need to be in the classroom all the time. Today he was actually moving about on Eowyn, doing a bit of his own thing while Quan was off doing a bit of his own thing as well. The older Orderite seemed contented to leave Ainsley to his own training for most day of the week, then supplement it with a new tactic or maneuver or exercise to work on for the remainder of the week. So basically it was only 2 out of the 7 days that were spent with both of them actually training. The teen had always been the independent sort though, so this didn't really bother him.
Eowyn was basically desert, as far as Ainsley was concerned, but a desert full of adventure - while he loved. He didn't venture into it today though; Quan said perhaps another day, when he was a bit stronger and more capable of handling the dragons that basically inhabited the Malro. Ainsley was confident in his abilities, but since coming under Quan's wing he's learned to trust his instructor quite a bit more. It took a few years, but he did learn. In any case, as he had been left to his own devices he was spending today, oddly enough, indoors. The outpost for the College of Aptitude was actually nearby where he and Quan had agreed to meet, so he was spending some of the day outside the aforementioned outpost reading, for once, quietly.
The textbook he'd become engrossed in had to do with dragons and the Dovaa, actually, and as they were mostly shrouded in mystery he found it curious to read up on the author's different takes on their creation and their part in the world. Ainsley found it amusing to a degree, and it helped to curb his boredom for now. At a certain passage concerning the Celestial Plane he audibly snorted.
"Maelstrom.. vortex. What, are they so divine that they feel they need to hide their home from this world? Tch.." Of course, he was speaking bitterly because this meant that he would never actually see the Celestial Plane, and he was, though he'd never admit it at this point, very interested in seeing it. He went on with his reading, a disappointment settling in as he continued.

It had been time for a short change, and after being so long in the cold and Dark Souldul, Esme wanted to travel some place warmer. The Peisio Dovaa had never really bothered to travel to Eowyn before, the dessert lands and all that empty space didn’t exactly appeal to her. But searching for the Kiandri dragons did, and this was how she’d ended up in town of Taliuma. She had planned on staying a few days here to absorb and learn some more about her surroundings before she headed out into the unknown. She had no plans on dying while he was out in the middle of nowhere while she was here.
Esmeralda had been here only a few days and already she wanted to leave, her hair was up in a heap on her head so she could feel any cool wind that passed by, she didn’t bother with her belt anymore even if she felt a little more naked than usual. Any and all fur she had on her was gone and she made sure her elbow length gloves were gone. Her skin was growing darker from all the sun it was getting, she was burnt I a few places because she was so pale to begin with. This was not a place she’d ever want to stay, and while the dragons were keeping her here, fi she didn’t find any she was going back home to rest for a few days.
The words Maelstrom and vortex caught her attention as she was walking by a blond Orderite, it made her pause and turn to him slightly. She quirked her brows at his words and she put a hand on her hip. “We don’t hide; we simply exclude ourselves from a stupid war.” She raised her tone so he could hear her, she didn’t and never had liked the other races judging the Dovaa because they chose to remain neutral and out of their wars. “It certainly doesn’t make us divine, just saves the lives of many Dovaa.”

It surprised him when someone suddenly reacted to his words, and before he could stop himself he looked up and his fiery red eyes met with the cool blues of a girl, and a Dovaa no less. She looked a bit out of sorts with her hair up the way it was, and she didn't look at all dressed for a day on Eowyn, much to his amusement. "There are as many Dovaa out in the world and involved in the war as there are Orderites and Oblivionites, Miss," he said with a shrug, "it doesn't seem like you guys are excluding yourselves from the war at all. Granted, you're safe from any raids and such courtesy of the various mercenaries roaming around." Ainsley spoke with a matter-of-fact tone that was backed only by what Quan had told him thus far, but he was confident enough in his mentor's words to pass it on to other people.
After leaving a bookmark on his current page, Ainsley closed the textbook and stood up, dusting whatever sand had gotten blown onto his person while he was spending the day on his butt doing nothing more than just reading. "If you ask me," he continued while he went about his task, "it's just a tiny bit unfair." Then he stopped and smiled, dusting the last bit of sand off his pants in the process.
"But then no one asked, so I guess my opinion doesn't really matter. I'm glad to hear that you don't believe being separated from the rest of the world makes you special though. As far as I'm concerned, any Dovaa who ventures out into our side of the world is better than anyone who chooses to stay within the confines of that Plane or whatever it's called."

Esmeralda watched the Orderite curiously; she doubted there were as many as he believed. If he truly believed that there were that many Dovaa out in the world, how many did he think were hidden away in Astral city? She chuckled softly, she also doubted very much the Dovaa were involved in the war, because if they were it was going against orders from Marcus and could garner expulsion forever. She didn’t believe any Dovaa would risk not being able to return home, but again. If people wished to believe that there were many Dovaa out in the world, then she was not about to tell them otherwise. “If you believe so.”
“Unfair? How so?” She quirked her brow at him, she knew this was going to turn into a debate of sorts, but she really was curious. This one was an interesting Orderite, it made her wonder how much the other races really did know about the Dovaa. “Some don’t have a choice to come out into the world.” She was the best example of this, no friends back home to return to and her family was preoccupied with her baby brother. “The Hybrids aren’t allowed into Astral city for example, others have spouses that are Orderite or Oblivionite and they moved out from Astral city.

Besides Quan, who was never up for anything besides work and life's basic necessities, Ainsley had never had anyone to bump heads with intellectually. His mentor would usually just stomp out whatever idea that he would present, much to the blonde's frustration, so this was a nice change of pace. Ainsley settled his eyes on the Dovaa and considered her question for a bit, then shrugged.
"You guys are almost completely out of harm's way while the rest of us are out here putting up with this war," he started, his voice calm. "Even if you don't have a choice but to come out and mingle with us, if you aren't banished, there's still the option of going back if you figure out that you're not happy with your life out here." He paused after that for a bit, since the topic of hybrids was brought up.
Ainsley had never met a hybrid, or at least if he ever did he didn't know it, so he wasn't sure how he thought of them at a personal level. Objectively speaking, they fared worse than he did, though with regard to the Dovaa, "everyone else" basically included hybrids as well. "As for hybrids, it's not surprising that they're not welcome there since we, that is non-Dovaa, aren't even allowed to see it, never mind go inside."
The teen couldn't pretend to really understand why the leader of the Dovaa chose to isolate his people rather than take part and end the war that much sooner, however he had no problems voicing his thoughts on the matter. He had his own personal experiences with the effects of the war, after all, all the while the Dovaa were basically sitting pretty inside their "Celestial Plane". "You don't suffer the way the rest of us do, that's all, though that probably makes me sound like a bad person."Tasinei Sorrysorrysorrysorrysorrysorry... o___o;

Esmeralda found this Orderite interesting, granted he wasn’t very far off from what she thought other Orderites or maybe even what the Oblivionites thought of the Dovaa. This however, was unimportant; she was not here to pick a fight. In fact, she had to get going soon. “Perhaps you’re right.” Or maybe the Dovaa were simply waiting until the Orderites and Oblivionites were done killing themselves before they actually let anyone else. Whatever the reason, she was glad they were neutral in the whole affair; it avoided much bloodshed and loses.
The Dovaa could only smile at him, because in this he was correct.
“I wish I could speak to you longer, but I really must get going.” She looked at him intensely for a little bit, wheels turning in her head. “I wish you safety.” And then she was gone in a flutter without a look back at him. Maybe someday they’d meet up again.

It almost felt like he'd wasted his breath, though a part of him was glad that this Dovaa hadn't opted to continue what would likely have been a pointless debate. His thoughts on why the Dovaa were hiding out in the Plane wouldn't change anything, so when his company simply conceded he only sighed and, upon her goodbye, sat back down and opened the book he'd been reading before she happened past him. His opinion on the Dovaa, he thought as he skimmed through the parts that he'd already read through, hadn't really changed much.
Maybe if they did meet again, they'd have more time to talk about this matter again. He was, if anything, more curious about the Dovaa now. She was, after all, the first one he'd ever met.
