It had been a while since Alexis had taught at the school, the end of the year had come and she knew soon the kids would be out for summer. The question was what was Alexis going to do with her summer? She’d been writing her book most of the winter and even spring. Though it wasn’t really putting food on the table, and her savings was starting to run low. Even unemployment wasn’t going that well for her; since she didn’t have anything finished writing wise to send to a publisher.

There was a sigh, she could see if Noah would hire her at his little hole in the wall restaurant. However, it was summer; did she want to be stuck waitressing now? Maybe in the winter… or part time if he’d take her? The teacher was sitting there hands folded and chin rested on them staring at her laptop.

Finally, she started writing, typing away at the keys quickly. Maybe if she made an ad? She could post it on Density’s list, and a few other places maybe run it in the newspaper? This way she could pick up a little bit of money.

She’d need to talk to the owners of the park before she did anything but she was pretty sure they’d be okay with her teaching a summer art class at the picnic benches.

        Summer Art Classes
        Ages 8 to 13
Run by Miss Alexis Bailey former Art teacher at Knightside Elementary.

The art classes will be two weeks long. Students will learn fundamentals of drawing, painting, pottery and papier-mâché; at the end of two weeks there will be a small art gallery where students work will be on display for all the parents to see their hard work! After the gallery students can take their work home with them.

Location and time of the art classes will be announced. There will be a 10 dollar material fee paid up front so that students can have materials to work with during this class.

Contact Alexis Bailey if you have any questions or would like to sign up your student.

She sat back and looked at her handy work. Yes, that would do. Hopefully she could get them a place to paint, she knew the park also had shelters which they rented out but she had no idea how much that’d cost. She just hoped the 10 dollar cover charge was enough for materials and a place to work.

Once she’d save the add she began looking up the numbers to local parks so she could call and ask them about prices for renting their spaces for two weeks. “I do miss the kids, I just don’t miss the hassle of having to try to teach them at school.” She wasn’t even sure if students would want to join in the summer art class, because well… they were just getting out of school for summer. It was almost bittersweet, but this was the only time she could run it that they’d be able to join her.

At least if they had it at one of the parks the children could take a small break to play outside when the weather was pretty.
