And we’re all see through, just like glass
And we can shatter just as fast
That light’s been burned out for a while,
I still see it every time I pass
It was lost in the corners of my mind,
Behind a box of reasons why
I never doubted it was there,
It just took a little time to find...

It had been a miserable day, leading into a more miserable night for the stallion; currently laying beneath a large willow residing near the center of his graveyard on the small sloping hill. It was where he usually made his 'home' in his paradise, the grass was a little thicker under the tree from the constant water source and made for a wonderful bedding. Its curtain of leafy tendrils kept the sun out so he could sleep in the darkness even in mid day when speckles from the canopy of leaves even above the entire graveyard lit some of the ground. Luckily he was in a dark part of the world - the swamp nearby brought lots of clouds anyways.

His breath was rasped, a wheeze escaping his lips at each exhale as even now that night was fallen he remained in his bedding. He knew what was going on, he was ill...a repercussion of living amongst the dead. His food contaminated with the bacteria of his surroundings...so occasionally the grave keeper would be forced to take a break due to illness. This was one of those times. He felt so hot, so much he was sweating as his skin shook lightly...it never got through to him how one could be sweating from heat and feel so, so cold at the same time.

"Damnit..." He seethed, mask resting on the ground against the tree as it was simply too much to wear; especially with this fever. Even the satchel had been taken off and set to the side. Either way...he was mad, frustrated and sick as a dog.

It would only be time till it passed, as it always did. The pain in his muscles as he laid on the ground was rather tiresome, the cough...annoying...but it was the temperature fluctuation which really got him down. Deathbringer had brought it on himself though...never traveling outside his graveyard meant the grass here too was ridden with questionable authentication...perhaps he might have munched on some blood splattered blades of grass? Either way, he was simply thankful that no one had come into the graveyard...there wasn't anyone he'd have to try and hold it together. Surely if anyone undesirable came he'd be unable to fend them off....but at least under here they may think the graveyard was desolate and be on their way.

It was hard to even think, when his mouth was so damn dry.

Claudette shrugged her shoulders to try and reposition the small limp form slung across her back, her back was slippery and the colt lid across her pale coat with every carefully measured step. She spread her wings wide to provide more support, not wanting to drop her delicate burden into the dirt. He was pitifully small, but his body was flawless, from his tiny golden hooves to the tips of his translucent turquoise wings. The mares expression was haggard and grim as she silently bore the foal's corpse through the woods to the graveyard.

Her heart lifted a little when she saw the familiar worn stone arches and rusty gate that led to Deathbringer's domain. Turning her head, her large scarlet eyes swept across the landscape, empty but for the gravestones, standing like silent sentinels over the remains Deathbringer had interred beneath them. Where was he? The cemetery seemed lonely and empty without its familiar rattling guardian wandering the paths. At the entrance she hesitated, what would happen if she entered without permission? She certainly didn't want to anger the stallion, or intrude on his privacy. But she had the payment they had agreed upon, the corpse wouldn't keep long before it started to rot. Claudette knew that Deathbringer wouldn't mind the smell but she wanted to put the small colt to rest looking as perfect as he had in life, perhaps that would soothe the sadness in her heart.

Heaving a sigh, she stepped through the gate, tail swishing as she wound her way down the path, taking care not to touch anything. Claudette shivered, her nerves prickling as she passed row after row of graves. She didn't feel frightened so much as nervous, nervous about entering the graveyard without leave, and nervous about encountering the intriguing black stallion called Deathbringer once more. A faint wheezing and hacking echoed across the burial ground, her ears twitched forward to catch the sound as she tried to identify its source. "Deathbringer?" She called out hesitantly, "Is that you?" feeling an inward spike of guilt even as the words passed her lips, it seemed as though she were violating some sort of unspoken rule by interrupting the hushed stillness around her.

Little did he know, someone had come knocking on his stone doors, to speak. Another round of coughing fits wracked his body as he tried to clear his throat to little avail...but it wasn't until then that his ears perked and he caught a sign to which he'd missed completely. A voice. Turning his head up quickly as he winced to the pain it brought he could have sworn he heard his name upon the night's embrace....but when the question arouse if it was indeed him who coughed his brows knitted considerably. He couldn't tell whom it was, not with the fever making his thoughts delirious and his sight blurred only slight.

"Damnit..." He hissed again but forced himself to get up; despite how shaky it was and the fact he'd wobbled a bit to hit his body against the tree's trunk for support till he got his bearings in check. Once he did, he took a breath to quench the unease in his stomach before setting out from under the safety of his willow home.

Emerging from the tendrils he looked around quickly before spotting the blinding white mare not too far off; and immediately he felt a weight shift from his own shoulders. At first he was worried it would be someone undesirable...but although he wished it wouldn't have been her to see him like this he supposed it was infinitely better than someone worse of darker intent. "Claudette..." He spoke out, rather softly thanks to the wheeze in his voice; the sharp rocks in his throat (or how he felt) making his usual luxurious deep tone impossible for the time being.

Then he saw it.

His eyes clearly making its way to her outstretched wings on her back could see the glimmer of tiny golden hooves. Could it be? Immediately he perked, and although if she was really watching she would have seen him wobble a bit in his step approached her rather quickly for someone in his state.

Screw the sickness, this was his prize.

"Is that...." He breathed, keeping distance from her face least she catch what he had as he went around to her side. His hair was a mess, as well as it probably was a strange sight to see him without any accessories...but for being the worst day he had in a long while....this....this really made it seem not so bad. Seeing those wings, made his eyes reflect the beauty he clearly could gather from such a little...dead colt. "He's magnificent..." The color was how he imagined the ocean would look like, so delicate, and so small. However she got him, he was curious. It looked like he could have very well been alive but sleeping....but he was sure he was dead - as Claudette wouldn't have brought him a live catch like that.

Claudette felt her spirits lift as a familiar dark figure emerged from behind a screen of leafy branches, but as he drew closer, her relief was quickly tempered by concern. His steps were irregular and shaky, he was disheveled and when he spoke his voice was husky and hoarse. He was obviously unwell, but seemed to perk up at the sight of the body draped over her shoulders.

She watched Deathbringer over her shoulder as the stallion circled, his expression eager as he examined her offering.

"Deathbringer." Claudette murmured again in greeting, weight shifting a little as she nodded at him and decided to cut right to the chase. "You're sick." she stated bluntly, her tone was disgruntled, she found herself feeling irritated that he he was more concerned with a new body than with taking care of himself. Flicking her curls out of her face, she heaved a small sigh and closed the space between them. She craned her neck and fixed her crimson gaze on the stallion before her, brow furrowed. She wasn't sure what she had planned to do after handing over his payment but she certainly knew she couldn't just leave him like this.

"Where would you like me to put him?" She inquired briskly, satisfied that he had found pleasure in her gift. "Then we should find you something to drink... And to eat." She had never tried to care for someone who was sick before, but she had been ill a few times in her youth and that had always been her mother's solution, followed by a long nap. She hoped that would do the trick and that he wasn't infected with anything too serious.

His ears perked as the mare pointed out the obvious fact on his current state of health; he couldn't recall anyone else seeing him ill before - but it was a feat he knew would rear its ugly head every now and then. There was no stopping it...at least one he was unwilling to comply by. He would not leave his graveyard; the stone gates surrounding his sanctuary like an invisible wall. He could stand and block, but refused to tread from its welcoming shadow. Beyond it though he was sure there was plenty to eat and drink, fresh, clean edibles that everyone else enjoyed. Yet....even at the price of his own well being he still would refuse.

What would he do if something happened to this place? His home.

"Why yes, Claudette." He spoke, the wheeze finding her name a little difficult with the t's in which he would have to move his tongue against the dry roof of his mouth. "Its natural when you live amongst the dead...it will pass - like every other time so don't worry." He offered a lazy if not slightly pained grin. "I mean, I am flattered you care so much but it lasts but a day or three at most." He teased, hoping to rile some kind of reaction from the mare he hated to admit but was glad to see. Perhaps even on par with what she had on her back. "However there is nothing more here that would help, makes me feel ill just thinking about it. Water might be nice though, my mouth is awfully dry" Of course, he methodically would chose to graze in certain areas in a clockwork type order. This would allow ample time for the grass to regrow in some areas - and of course when more fresh ones came he would be forced to supplement his diet as well with the carnivorous types of delicacies.

"This way, if you will." Wasting no time as he assumed the hybrid flutter was tired from a long, awkward walk from wherever she came from with such cargo he headed through the winded paths along rows of plotted graves. His steps were awkward at best as he seemed to walk in a zig zag formation; the temperature he was experiencing making his eyes blurred to the point it was hard to focus. Yet he kept going.

Heading to a certain row they had been before; he motioned to the half dug grave in the works...beside the one which held the stag. Moss was laid out over top of his; as well as four rocks meticulously placed at the crest of the mound; neatly placed beside one another in a square formation. "Here will do..." He turned his head and coughed roughly, wheezing in before clearing his throat. "Right beside this open grave. Once it is complete he will go inside."

...like every other time

Claudette's brow wrinkled in concern. She had never considered that living amongst so many graves, both fresh and old, could have such an ill effect on Deathbringer's health. She glanced around her with new eyes, the water, the ground, the very vegetation was laced with the fluids of decay. And of course he wouldn't venture out of his home for so much of a mouthful of clean water or fresh grass, the mare let out a sigh, stubborn male. And he would no doubt grow snarly as well if she pointed out that he needed to take better care of himself. Perhaps if he planted some seeds along the edges, as far away from the bodies as possible without actually leaving the graveyard....

She pondered this thought as she followed Deathbringer obediently, her steps carefully placed once more so as not to spill her precious burden. "Do you have a bucket?" She inquired rather pointedly, "I could bring some to you, so you have time to rest." her eyes traced his wobbly steps disapprovingly, wishing she was big enough to drag him back to the shade to rest.

Claudette nodded, kneeling down carefully and gently pulling her wings foreword to allow the small body to slide off the slick fur on her back onto the ground. She stood and turned to face him, nudging his tiny limbs with her nose until they were folded neatly and then smoothing the mane out of the closed eyes. Her gaze was solemn but bringing him here to be put to rest properly made her feel much better.

That done, she turned to face the offending stallion once more, peering up at him with narrowing eyes. "You need to lie down, Deathbringer." She stated firmly, her normally soft voice held a steely note. She had grown up some since their last visit, while she still felt admiration and respect for the older stallion, especially after the life changing advice he had offered her during her last visit, the awe and shyness his presence brought upon her was much less severe. She wondered idly if she could get him to put down his satchel, carrying out various rotting bits couldn't be aiding his recovery, her flashing red gaze fixating it on a moment before meeting his once more, she would work her way up to that...

"A bucket?" The grave keeper thought for a moment, knowing what this bucket was from the neighboring village of two leggers but he could not remember if he actually possessed one himself. If he did he wondered in what kind of condition it would be in, as he didn't have a clue what he could use one for in usual circumstance. "I might....but there is a," he gave a short series of coughs, each more rasped than the last. Closing his eyes for a moment as he could feel the tombs spin in his vision he regained his footing and mind before picking back up where he left off. "abandoned village just to the west of here, I'm sure there would be a bucket there if I didn't have one."

It might just be filled with entrails...

However as he tenderly watched while the little present was laid beside his soon to be forever home, her words caught him a little off guard. Looking up through clouded eyes he was aware of what he should be doing....but being solitary for so long made him push limits to complete tasks; he hadn't had to listen to anyone since his foal years.....and that was one hell of a long time ago.

With an image of his sister flashing beside Claudette, for whatever reason the delusions decided in his mind...Deathbringer was inclined to hear her own; or at least accept her offer. As he moved closer to her, which wasn't an easy task; Deathbringer but was a breath away when he lowered his head as the heat of his fever began to get to him from all the moving around. Resting his head against her shoulder/back area; he felt himself stead enough that he wouldn't sway when standing and once again found her was in a better state of mind to speak.

"What is it you ask in return.....what price do you require?" It was not the most savory position to be in debt to someone, instead of being the one to hold the debt....but he supposed if anyone had some leverage on him...it was better it was Claudette.

Deathbringer had never been one to be really reserved when it came to personal space, but with his head on her back he definitely could feel her soft ivory pelt and could smell her scent all around him. Perhaps it was the sickness, but it felt somewhat.....scarcely....

...good to be in company again.

Claudette swallowed hard, she wasn't keen on leaving him for as long as it would take to find the nearest village. She offers him a small smile, "Well, we'll simply have to make do with what we can find here then." She scanned the immediate area but saw nothing of particular use.

Deathbringer leaned in and for one giddy moment, Claudette was made breathless by his sudden nearness. "Y-you seem tired," she stammered, grateful that the stallion could not see the red of her cheek in the darkness. Shaking her head to clear it, she blinked a few times in disbelief before her gaze hardened at his words. "I ask for nothing in return." she responded, her voice husky with confusion and hurt. "You're sick, Deathbringer..." She trailed off. "I only wish to help you." The small smile that played at Claudette's lips was tinged with a quiet sadness as she gently nudged the large stallion back towards the tree. Around them, the symphony of crickets, frogs, and various other night creatures cut through the shadows. A light breeze ruffled her raven hair against her cheeks, tickling them as an owl hooted in the distance. "You should go back to bed." she repeated again as she practically herded him towards the willow's swaying branches, it was hard to see him so ill.

Despite her worry for Deathbringer, it felt so nice to be back in the graveyard again. Its peaceful, macabre beauty was like a balm for her soul, which felt chafed after spending so much time amongst those who couldn't or wouldn't understand the darkness that lived within her. Claudette felt free to embrace her shadows as well as her light in Deathbringer's company. As they walked, she kept stealing secret glances at him, it was so strange to see his bold features freed from the bone mask. She liked the skull, it had been one of the first things that fascinated her about him when they first met, but her fickle eyes kept flicking back to the strong line of his nose and jaw no matter how many times she tried to keep her focus ahead of her.

"Its good to see you again." She said, softening. I missed you the thought floated unspoken between them.

"I think we may be able to find something along the way..." Yet...he couldn't be sure. Everything was fuzzy, his usually sharp memory was twisting and he couldn't recall where his projects were, which needed to be cleaned up soon....but it told him simply he was too unwell. It seemed as if this time was a little worse than the last...but it was also a little better as well. He'd never had company before - well, pleasant company while he was unwell. Delirious in his thoughts he still couldn't help but marvel at how soft her pelt was...must have been from good nutrition of the outside world.

"My body is weak...but my mind is still active." Tired he may, but it was strange how even in its fuzzy state he was still thinking, still trying to comprehend and not allowing it to rest like his body cried out to.

Yet....her tone changed when she spoke, eyes cracking open once again as could he detect....pain in her words? He didn't comprehend what he had said, or what exactly brought this on but now he was curious. Lifting his head up reluctantly he was still way too close for anyone's personal boundaries he was nudged back towards the tree and following her lead. Step after step he felt himself getting closer to the resting spot he had before; but something felt off even as the night's soothing symphony rang out. He constantly thought the best he could under his mental strain about why he could hear something off about her voice.

Was it something he said? Usually he was so careful with his words...

Perking his ears he caught what she had said on her gentle vocals, a ghost of a smile cracking at the corner of his lips. "We all....want something." He managed to say, a small trail of thought coming to him as they walked up the incline to the tree, the tendrils of the willow but a mere meter away before he stopped and turned around to face her. "Acceptance, Thanks, items....it may be unspoken...but we all would desire something for a good deed....an act of kindness." He didn't know what she desired, for she had stated she asked for nothing....but that meant little to the stallion. He had debt to her...for such kindness no matter how she felt otherwise about her payment from him. What did mares like? What did Claudette like?

She didn't seem the type for flowers....or pretty words. He wasn't going to be doing any feats of strength...he was a thinker - not a hulk. Nor was he one for....well anything else that these young stallions were capable of. He wasn't a spring chicken anymore and the years had passed before he knew it....but perhaps; well it certainly was a thing of the past to say thanks and he had observed the natives do it as well with mild success. Oh well, he really had nothing else to really do in his state.

Leaning his head a little to the side he leaned forward back into her space, drawing his muzzle along her cheek before giving the area a little kiss far from her lips as he was trying not to get her sick. "Thank you....Claudette." He whispered huskily, pulling back and catching her gaze momentarily. Resuming back up the hill he pushed into the leaves and into the darkness of the tree. His mask remained where he left it against the tree as he hunkered down into the ground with a shaken breath, his chin resting once more on the ground as he awaited her to join him.

Her heart gave a funny little bounce as Deathbringer's lips brushed against her cheek. She watched him continue up the hill and disappear behind the tree's swaying boughs, unsure whether she should join him or leave him to his rest. Claudette could still feel the too warm imprint of his kiss on her face, he was feverish, possibly delirious. She wondered if he would even remember it once the fever broke, just the thought made her feel as though the essential pieces of herself were grating against each other, but she swallowed hard and shook her head. It had been an innocent gesture of gratitude, nothing more. Right now Deathbringer needed someone to take care of him, the strange and unfamiliar feelings that left her rocking back on her heels meant little in the wake of that necessity.

But his words left her mind reeling as well, that was not unfamiliar, but she found herself wondering what Deathbringer wanted, bodies for his graveyard of course, to reunite with his sister certainly, but perhaps there was something more swimming beneath the surface. She thought she had sensed something charged behind those simple phrases, but it was hard to tell with him.

She would find him clean water soon, there had to be a bucket somewhere around here, but first she would rest as well. Claudette remembered from her own experiences the chills that wracked the body when you were sick, so stepping carefully around the roots she pushed through the curtain of leafy branches and settled near the large stallion. She lay there for a while, reassured by the sound of his breathing, stealing secret glances at his dark morbid beauty and marveling at the strange pull she felt towards him. He seemed so fragile now and she wondered if she could coax him out of the graveyard for a short while once he woke up, she had a feeling fresh water and grass that sprouted from soil unpolluted by bodily fluids would help. There was a small meadow a few minutes from the gate that could suit nicely. So while Deathbringer rested, the young mare sat plotting how to convince her stubborn friend to go for a walk with her when he awoke, her eyes blazing with determination.

Although unmoving he'd remained against the tree with eyes closed to the world; ears in a laxed state against his soft ombre locks as he made note she'd followed him under the shade of the tree. He wasn't quite sure why he was feigning being asleep, but his body was protesting any kind of movement which required him to burn energy. Deathbringer's mind remained stuck on the puzzle which was this mare, and even though she was not without her own darkness swimming in her soul she was one of the first who returned to the graveyard after an encounter. Not that the stallion was particularly hurt that he never found out what became of those he saw here....but it puzzled him why she of all the souls chose to come back of her own accord.

As if...she wanted to be here.

That was foolish though, even if it had some undeniable truth behind her actions. Was she really here for the beautiful sights of his morbid garden...or had he really left such an impression that she desired his company above say someone out there in the vast, unforgiving world so much she'd return and stay with him in his time of illness. Yet these thoughts would have to be delayed, for his heated brain began to shut down and he did in fact fall asleep, lulled by the cooling darkness of the willow and a certain someone's scent wafting his nose from his present company.

-----A tad bit later------

He wasn't sure how long he was out for, but when he awoke he could feel his vision blur as eyes fluttered open. His head was pounding, even if the fever subsided some as his facial expression winced momentarily while his head rose from the cold grass. Ears folding back he looked around before spotting the femme, who surprisingly was still here. While part of him expected her to leave while he slept after who knows how long....

...a part of him was happy she stayed.

"Clau....dette..." He groaned, before clearing his throat from the stickiness of groggy sleep. "How long have I been out for?" Already he could hear his stomach grumble from the lack nutrients, but he really had no desire to fulfill it in current company since well....when did he ever have company?

Claudette woke slowly, she was warm and comfortable, her head resting against someone's soft flank. The soft rustle of leafy branches and the coolness of the air outside this patch of warmth imbued her with a sense of well being... Until a familiar male voice touched her ears, making them flick drowsily, until she opened her eyes and saw white boned patterned against black. She lifted her head slowly, hoping that he wouldn't be offended by their closeness.

Claudette didn't know how long she had slept, she had been up with the stallion a few times throughout the night, fetching him water and worrying about the stubborn fever that refused to break, giving him her own warmth to ward of his chills. She had watched him for a long time after he finally slept soundly, resting her head against him sleepily as she kept her heavy crimson eyes fixed on the steady rise and fall of his chest. She must have fallen asleep that way, it had been nearly dusk then, Claudette turned slightly to peer through the branches at the sky, the moon was well up into the sky. "Most of the day" She replied sleepily, she closed her eyes for a moment and opened them again, turning to look up at him, her expression hopeful, "Are you feeling any better for the rest?"

She stood up slowly, shifting from hoof to hoof to work out her stiffened muscles. She gave him a long, assessing look, followed by a small knowing smile. "Hungry?"

We can finish this one! Sorry, I'm battling one of those dry spells, just can't seem to kick my muse into shape when I actually have the time to reply to things, but I'm working on it!

His ears slid back against his skull slowly, his eyes watching her oh so closely while his voice seemed to have roused her from her own slumber. He was an insanely light sleeper, he'd always been since making this graveyard his home. Yet...how was it he'd never noticed, fever or not, that her head had been resting on his flank...her body so close to his own. His head was reeling, not necessarily upset, but it baffled him to endless bounds. He could still feel her warmth on his flesh even as her own body moved away to get up, it was strange that one part of his body was at a temperature offset...all because of where she laid.

Being a loner...this was all quite new. He was either all cold, or all warm. Not this mixture.

Looking around he too took note that the darkness around them under the willow meant it was well into the evening; perfect, although it was slightly embarassing to have been out so long and to really have little recollection of what had transpired during those daytime hours. Willing his own body to rise he felt a little dizzy, the last grip of illness still clinging to his body but he did regain plenty of the energy he'd lost. "Somewhat...Seems to have gotten over the worst of it..."

Thanks to her, really.

"Yes....more thirsty, though." As soon as he said it though, he got a blurry memory of water...clean water at that. Claudette had brought him that too...

"Come...We'll head to the entrance. There should be some fresher grass there, if I remember correctly with my cycle." He really ate in circles the tainted grass, to give the grass time to grow in his wake. Besides, he didn't expect her to stay and eat; and if she wanted to head out of the walls of his home she would still be close by and in sight. Although....he wasn't sure why he was so concerned with her getting out of his line of vision. "Ready to move, Claudette?" He moved past the long vines of the willow, into the soothing but soft light of the moon and the somewhat fresh air.

Claudette's eyes followed his initially unsteady movements as he rose to his feet, feeling a small ping of regret she stood with him to be leaving their comfortable nest. The patches of her flesh where she had been pressed against him were still fizzing with an odd unnerving nervous warmth but she steadfastly ignored the strange sensation, reigning it in and tucking it away as she stretched her neck from side to side and rolled her shoulders, working the kinks out of her stiff muscles.

She smiled at him warmly, glad to been able to help him feel better despite her inexperience in the area, feeling that no words were necessary and not particularly eager to disturb the comfortable quiet they had achieved so she simply nodded at his words and moved to follow him through the curtain of trailing branches out into the glistening moonlight.

Claudette was feeling a little fuzzy headed from too little sleep, she had been worried that Deathbringer's sickness was more serious than he would admit and she would awake to find he had passed while she slept. She wasn't sure why that would matter, truly she barely knew him and normally she reveled in the beauty of death's release, but the thought of this stallion dying had chased thoughts of sleepiness to the farthest corners of her mind.

Lost in her musings, she wasn't really paying attention to where they were going, she simply followed the stallion wherever he would lead her. The issues of Deathbringer's contaminated food and water supply were paramount in her mind as she mused about how she may help him. His work was important, he couldn't care for the diseased if he was dead himself.

"How long have you been getting sick, Deathbringer?" she inquired softly, in a deceptively mild tone. She tilted her head sightly and affixed him with her crimson gaze, "Why do you continue to consume what grows on this ground when you know its harming you? When I met you, I was outside this graveyard, why not leave only to eat and drink?"
